Overview

About JMI Entrance

The JMI Entrance Examination is the admission test that Jamia Millia Islamia runs through its Office of the Controller of Examinations and admission cell. For most of the university's programmes it is how you get a seat. A score counts for admission to Jamia Millia Islamia alone; it is not a common test that other institutions accept.

Jamia Millia Islamia is a central university in Delhi. It was founded in 1920 at Aligarh, moved to the Okhla area of New Delhi in 1935, received deemed university status in 1962, and became a central university by an Act of Parliament in 1988. Teaching runs across eleven faculties, among them Engineering and Technology, Architecture and Ekistics, Law, Humanities and Languages, Social Sciences, Sciences, Life Sciences, Education, Management Studies and Dentistry.

Admission does not follow a single route. Most undergraduate and postgraduate courses are filled through the university's own entrance test, while a set of UG and PG programmes take applicants on Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores. A few professional programmes use national tests instead: B.Tech admissions go by JEE Main, B.Arch by NATA and BDS by NEET. Which route applies is fixed per programme in the official admission scheme.

The test covers several levels, with undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and doctoral programmes admitted either through it or through the alternative routes above. Papers are course-specific and follow the qualifying-level curriculum for the programme you apply to, with the programme-wise syllabus and admission scheme set out in the university prospectus. Eligibility varies by programme: candidates generally need to have passed the relevant qualifying examination in the appropriate stream, with the minimum marks the prospectus sets.
