About IPU CET
Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University does not admit anyone through a single door. Every programme it offers carries a ranked list of entrance channels printed against its programme code, and the Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test is only the first name on some of those lists. Choose the wrong one and there is no correcting it: once the date of applying closes, the University will not accept a request to change the CET code, and the registration fee does not come back.
GGSIPU runs two families of entrance test, and the programme code decides which family applies. One is the Common Entrance Test the University conducts itself. The other is what the GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27 calls a National Level Test, meaning an outside examination such as JEE Main, CLAT or NEET UG. A notification issued on 10 April 2026 puts the CET's share plainly, calling it "a primary mode of admission for the majority of programme of University" (GGSIPU Notification No. 11/2026, Last and Final Opportunity for CET Registration).
The brochure's eligibility table prints the channels for each programme in priority order.

CUET is not a parallel door at this University; it is the one underneath. Against programme after programme the brochure repeats the same admission rule, that admission is on the merit of the CET and that "The vacant seats after exhausting the merit list of CET will be filled through the merit list of CUET#" (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 2). Under code 131 the order runs the other way, and the University announced that arrangement in a January 2026 notification its notices page lists as "NOTIFICATION REGARDING ADOPTION OF MERIT/SCORE OF CUET AS SECONDARY CHANNEL FOR ADMISSIONS IN PROGRAMME B.TECH. (CODE 131)" (GGSIPU Admission 2026: Notices and Circulars).
The code in that title is doing work, because "B.Tech" at GGSIPU is not one thing. B.Tech (Bio-Technology) in the University School of Bio-Technology sits under code 130 with its own priority order, CET first and CUET second, so the engineering candidate who reads "JEE Main" and stops there has already missed the test that fills it (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 2).
Law sits outside the CET entirely. The brochure states that LLB is filled "through the merit of CLAT UG" and LLM "through the merit of CLAT PG", and warns that a candidate who has not given consent on the Consortium of NLUs portal cannot have their data picked up by the University at all (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, introductory chapter and instructions for candidates).
On the question students ask most often about the University itself: GGSIPU is a state university, not a private one. It was established by the Government of NCT of Delhi under the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University Act, 1998, is recognised by the UGC under sections 2 (f) and 12 (b), and is graded A++ by NAAC for a period of 07 years with effect from 14.02.2023 (GGSIPU Admission and eCounselling Portal).

Important dates
The brochure printed the cycle as a tentative schedule, and the University then moved the dates by notification. Here is what the brochure set out.

The application window did not close on the brochure's date. Under April 2026 the University's notices page lists a notification titled "Last and Final Opportunity for CET Registration 11.04.2026", and a few days before it a "Notification Regarding Change in CET Code/Test Code/Programme Code or Mode of Admission i.e NLT/CET for the Academic Session 2026-27" (GGSIPU Admission 2026: Notices and Circulars).
The test itself ran across several sittings rather than one date, and the CET Cell announced each result separately. Its notices record papers conducted on 2nd May and 3rd May, on 9th May and 10th May, on 16th May and 17th May, and on 23rd May, 2026 (GGSIPU CET Cell notice on the results of the examination held on 2nd May and 3rd May, CET Cell notice for the papers held on 9th May and 10th May, CET Cell notice for the papers held on 16th May and 17th May, CET Cell notice for the paper held on 23rd May). A separate schedule issued on 23.06.2026 added two more test days for five programmes: 03-07-2026 for Bachelor in Clinical Psychology (163) and B.Sc Emergency Medical and Trauma Technology (164), and 04-07-2026 for Master in Clinical Psychology (166), the Post Graduate Diploma in Rehabilitation Psychology (167) and Bachelor of Optometry (169) (GGSIPU CET Cell, Schedule of CET 2026).
A Special Entrance Test followed much later in the cycle. The CET Cell's admit card notice, dated 10.09.2026, records a Special Entrance Test for B.Ed. (122), B.Ed. Special Education (159) and BA Journalism and Mass Communication (126) scheduled on 15.09.2026 (GGSIPU CET Cell admit card notice for the Special Entrance Test).
The 2026-27 cycle was still placing candidates in the middle of September. Notices dated 15-09-2026 on the University's admission page carry a schedule for offline counselling for BA English, BA Economics, integrated BA and BBA LLB, LLM and B.Com, a provisional allotment list for Round 02 of MBBS online counselling, and a tentative vacant seat list for integrated LLB. Every stage of this University's admission year is announced that way, one dated notice at a time, on that page (GGSIPU Admission 2026: Notices and Circulars).

Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
Eligibility at GGSIPU is set per programme code, not per test, and the qualifying-mark bar differs by stream. For BBA and allied programmes and for BA Journalism and Mass Communication, the brochure requires a pass in Class 12 of the 10+2 pattern with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate, and English passed as a subject, core, elective or functional (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 2). BCA asks for the same 50% aggregate with a pass in English, plus Mathematics or Computer Science or another subject related to computer science, and it opens a second door that the aggregate alone would hide: a completed three-year diploma in a branch of engineering from a polytechnic approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, at 50% in aggregate, qualifies a candidate for the same programme. B.Com Honours asks for 50% in aggregate with a pass in five subjects, one language and four electives, and B.Tech for a minimum aggregate of 55% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with a pass in each subject separately, plus English.
Appearing candidates may apply. The application form carries a Qualifying Exam field with a PASSED option and an APPEARING option, and the brochure notes that "The title 'APPEARING' covers the cases of 'APPEARED' candidates also" (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
There is an age bar, and the date it is read on changes with the programme. For undergraduate programmes where the entry qualification is Class 12, other than MBBS, a candidate should not be beyond 21 years as on 01.08.2026. MBBS, BAMS and BHMS are read against a different date and carry a floor as well as a ceiling: the ceiling is 25 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission, and a candidate must have attained, or will attain, 17 years by that same date, with anyone turning seventeen on 01st January or later ruled out. For other postgraduate programmes entered on graduation the ceiling is 35 years (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 3).
The ceiling bends, which is worth knowing before anyone counts themselves out on age. Outside MBBS, BAMS and BHMS the Admission Officer for the programme may relax the upper age limit by up to five years in an exceptional case, and a candidate over the limit by up to five years may apply and sit the CET provisionally, then justify the gap period in writing to that officer; inside MBBS, BAMS and BHMS the maximum age carries its own five-year relaxation for SC, ST and OBC candidates (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 3). The same chapter refuses to round percentages up: a candidate with 49.9% is not eligible where the requirement is 50%.
Where a candidate went to school decides which of the two seat pools they compete in; where they live decides nothing. The brochure reserves 85% of the sanctioned intake for Delhi Region candidates, defined as those who passed the qualifying examination from a school or institute located in the NCT of Delhi or from a college affiliated to the University, and 15% for Outside Delhi Region candidates, who are classified that way "even if he/she is residing in Delhi" (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 5, Seat Allocation). Candidates who qualified through distance or open education are placed by the location of their study centre, and the proof of that is the candidate's responsibility alone.
Reserved-category proof follows the same split, and it binds only on the Delhi side of it. A candidate claiming a Delhi ST seat has to submit a certificate issued by the Government of NCT of Delhi and must also have passed the qualifying examination from a Delhi school or college, while a candidate claiming a reserved category in the Outside Delhi Region may use a valid category certificate from anywhere in India (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 6, Reservation Policy). The OBC rule is tighter still: 27% of seats go only to holders of an OBC certificate issued by a competent authority of Delhi to original residents of Delhi prior to 1993, and that reservation runs only in the University Schools of Studies and other government institutions.
- Varies by programme; generally the relevant qualifying examination (10+2 for most undergraduate programmes, a bachelor's degree for postgraduate ones) with the prescribed minimum marks and subject combinations, and marks are not rounded up. Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination may apply. Age limits are reckoned on 1 August of the admission year. The Delhi and outside-Delhi regions decide seat allocation by where the qualifying examination was passed rather than where the candidate lives, so a candidate who passed outside Delhi falls in the outside-Delhi region even if resident in Delhi.
Step by step
Application process and fee
The fee is fixed and it does not come back. The brochure sets the application fee at Rs 2500, non-refundable, payable at the time of registration on the online portal, with taxes and service charges in addition where applicable (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Application Fee).
Registration for the CET is accepted in online mode only, and only through the University's two websites, ipu.ac.in and ipu.admissions.nic.in (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Important Instructions for Candidates).
The form itself is unforgiving in ways worth knowing before you open it. Name and parents' names must match the Class 10 certificate; if the date of birth field is left empty the system substitutes 01.01.1950; a general-category candidate who fills a reserved category is considered only if the rank falls within the general cut-off rank; and an incomplete form is summarily rejected with no representation entertained (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
The choice of channel is made on that form and cannot be revisited. The brochure tells candidates to be very careful in choosing the CET code, test code, programme code or mode of admission, and states that any request for a change of CET code after the closing date of applying will not be accepted (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Important Instructions for Candidates).
The Region field carries real money too. A candidate ticks Delhi Region only if the qualifying examination was passed from a school or college in Delhi or from an institution affiliated to the University, and the brochure warns that incorrectness in Region may lead to cancellation of admission on verification of documents (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
Before the exam
Admit card and exam day
The e-admit card is a download, not a posting. After registration it is made available on the University website for the candidate to download and print, and if it arrives without a photograph the candidate is told to carry two recent passport photographs for the invigilator to paste (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
Entry needs the printout plus one original photo identity card from a closed list: voter identity card, driving licence, PAN card, passport, Aadhaar card, or a government employer ID. The brochure is emphatic that no colour photocopy, scanned copy or soft copy of the identity card will be accepted under any circumstances, and that no candidate is allowed entry without both documents (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
Gates close early and stay closed. Candidates are told to reach before the reporting time on the admit card so that biometric attendance and frisking can be completed, the entry gates shut half an hour before the test begins, and no late coming is allowed under any circumstances. Mobile phones, watches of every type, calculators, log tables, digital diaries, hand bags and metallic items are prohibited inside the centre, and candidates are advised to bring at least two pens for rough work (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
Disability support is set out in two places. The brochure allows a candidate with a disability of 40% or more to use their own scribe on producing an original medical certificate at entry, and gives every candidate with a disability compensatory time of 50 minutes over and above the normal duration (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4). The CET Cell supplies the procedure: the request goes to the Controller of Examinations-II by email or in person at least 03 days before the date of the examination, and the scribe's qualification must be one level below the candidate's, with an undertaking to that effect (GGSIPU CET Cell notice for PwD candidates, CET-2026).
Structure
Exam pattern
One paper shape covers every CET the University sets. The brochure states that the test paper "will contain 100 objective-type questions in all for all CETs", each with four alternative answers.

An incorrect answer is defined more widely than a wrong tick. The brochure counts as incorrect both wrong answers and "those which contain more than one answer to the question" (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
The chapter contradicts itself on the mode, and the two sides of it do not carry equal weight. Its general guidelines open by saying the mode of examination "will be offline OMR based Test", and its own instructions for the Common Entrance Test describe an offline paper from start to finish: a sealed test booklet and OMR answer sheet handed out five minutes before the test, ovals darkened with a black ball point pen, a booklet code that leaves the sheet unevaluated if it is left blank or filled twice, and rough work done only in the booklet. Against that, the reporting instructions describe an "Online/Offline Examination" of 150 Minutes, close the entry gates before the commencement of the Computer Based Test, and set out what to do at the allocated computer node, including a user ID and password issued 10 minutes before the start, although the passage covering the computer node opens with the words "In case University conducts the Online CBT" (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4). Nothing in the chapter reconciles the two, so the operative mode for any given paper is whatever the CET Cell notifies with that paper's schedule.
Missing the paper ends the attempt. The brochure states that no retest will be held for those unable to appear on the scheduled date, for any reason, and that no refund of fee is permissible (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).

What to study
Syllabus
There is no single IPU CET syllabus. The paper keeps the same length and marking for every programme, and changes its subject mix, so the syllabus that matters is the one printed against the programme code the candidate applied under. The brochure gives each one as a set of weighted sections (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 2).
For BBA and allied programmes under code 125 the four sections are English Language and Comprehension at 25%, General Awareness at 25%, Logical and Analytical Ability at 25%, and Aptitude relating to the field of Management and Communication Skills at 25%. BCA under code 114 tilts towards computing, with English Language and Comprehension at 15%, Mathematics at 30%, Computer Awareness at 30% and General Knowledge related to IT and Science at 25%. B.Com Honours under code 146 is the odd one, weighting Data Interpretation at 35% against General English at 25%, Logical Reasoning at 25% and General Awareness at 15%. BA Journalism and Mass Communication under code 126 replaces the quantitative block with Media Aptitude at 25%, alongside English, General Awareness and Reasoning at 25% each (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 2).
The questions are set in English only, except for B.Ed., where the paper is in English and Hindi (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).

How to prepare
Preparation and books
What GGSIPU publishes for preparation is the weightage split set out above and little else. The chapter that sets out the CET in detail names no book, no sample paper and no mock test, and says only that the Common Entrance Test shall be based on the topics specified in the CET syllabus section (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4). The brochure's instructions send a candidate to the scheme of examination and syllabus for the programme they are seeking admission to, which it says are available on the University website (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Important Instructions for Candidates).
Two practical constraints do come from the same chapter and are worth planning around rather than discovering on the day: calculators and log tables are prohibited inside the centre, and rough work is done with the candidate's own pen (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
Where it is held
Exam centres
The centre list is short and heavily weighted to the capital. The brochure's tentative list names Delhi NCR, covering Faridabad, Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram, along with Chandigarh, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow and Mumbai (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
An outstation centre is conditional on turnout. The brochure says it will be operational only where a particular shift draws 100 or more candidates across all courses, with one exception: if any candidate on that day is appearing in both shifts, the centre operates regardless. Where a centre is not invoked, the candidate is allocated a Delhi centre, and once a centre is allotted it will not be changed under any circumstances (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
The chapter is inconsistent about how many centres a candidate may name. One paragraph refers to the first and second option for centre, while the paragraph immediately after it states that a candidate "has to give option for three centres, in the order of priority". Either way the University reserves the right to cancel a centre and divert its candidates elsewhere (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
Centre policy can also be narrowed for a particular sitting. The schedule for the July papers carried a note that the CET for those programmes would be conducted only at centres located in Delhi (GGSIPU CET Cell, Schedule of CET 2026).
After the exam
Answer key
At GGSIPU an objection is priced, and it is made blind. The chapter that provides for challenging a question provides nothing for publishing the answers a candidate would be challenging it against. Any query or objection about a question or its options is addressed on payment of Rs 200 per question through an online Objection Link on the University website, within three days from the scheduled date, and the University says it will write to every candidate who sat the paper at their registered email and by mobile alert (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
The window is hard-edged. Nothing is entertained after the CET result is declared, objections sent through any other channel are refused under any circumstances, and any other query has to reach the University within 03 days of the test (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
Scores
Result and scorecard
Results are checked, not received. Each CET Cell notice announces that the result of a particular sitting has been declared and directs candidates to log in with their credentials at the CET result portal (GGSIPU CET Cell notice on the declaration of CET-2026 results).
The University is explicit that it publishes merit rather than marks. The brochure states that the merit list is displayed on the University website with no separate intimation to candidates individually, and that the University "does not issue or intimate the marks / ranks to any candidate and no correspondence on the subject will be entertained", while the merit obtained by an individual candidate can be seen or downloaded from the site (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4).
A rank is not an offer. The brochure states in terms that qualifying the CET conducted by the University does not, of itself, entitle a candidate to admission to any programme (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, instructions for candidates). Keep the e-admit card after the result, because it is required again at counselling and at verification of documents.
Scores you need
Cutoff
GGSIPU publishes closing ranks after each round rather than before the cycle, and it publishes them per programme code, per round and per channel. The brochure tells candidates that stream-wise, institute-wise and rank-wise admission rank cut off data is available on the University website and through the admissions portal (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 10).
In practice that means a long series of dated cutoff notices. For 2026-27 the notices page carries separate cutoff reports for MBBS Round 02 and B.Sc Honours Nursing Round 02 dated 15-09-2026, for Bachelor of Education Special Education Rounds 2 and 3 and for paramedical programmes dated 08-09-2026, and for MBA split three ways by channel, one report each for the CAT route, the CMAT route and the CET route (GGSIPU Admission 2026: Notices and Circulars). Because seats are ring-fenced by region and category before they are filled, a closing rank is meaningful only against the same programme code, region and category.
Getting a seat
Counselling and seat allotment
Counselling is a separate registration from the test, and it costs nothing extra. The brochure states that candidates are not required to submit a counselling participation fee and will only register for online centralised counselling on the admission portal (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 10, Online Counselling Procedure).
Enrolment and choice filling are both compulsory, and choice filling is where seats are won or lost. A candidate who has not enrolled, or has enrolled without filling preferences, is not considered for allotment at all (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 10). Preferences can be edited after Round 01 for the next round, and the brochure notes from previous experience that filling very few choices may result in no seat being allotted.
Holding an allotted seat has a price. After allotment a candidate pays a part academic fee of Rs 96,000 or Rs 60,000 as applicable to confirm it and to stay in the next round, and a candidate who does not pay loses any claim to the seat and is excluded from every subsequent round of online counselling (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 10). After that, two options open: freeze, which keeps the allotted seat and ends participation, or float, which enters the next round while retaining the current seat if nothing better comes through.
The later rounds move seats between pools in a fixed order. Reserved-category seats left vacant after the reserved merit is exhausted convert to unreserved in the last regular round, while region-wise seats are not converted until the complete merit list in that region has been exhausted, so vacancies stay inside the region as long as anyone there is left in the queue. A sliding round follows the last allotment round, open only to candidates who paid the part academic fee and neither froze nor withdrew, and it uses the preferences already on file (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 10).
When online rounds run out, the University moves to offline counselling and spot rounds, and for 2026-27 that phase has run deep into September (GGSIPU Admission 2026: Notices and Circulars).
Where it is accepted
Participating institutes
A CET rank is spent at GGSIPU's own University Schools of Studies or at one of its affiliated institutes, and the brochure carries the list programme by programme with the final intake against each. That list is labelled for the academic session 2025-26, and the 2026-27 sanctioned intake is a placeholder in the same brochure marked to be notified before counselling (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 13, Programmes Offered in Affiliated Institutes).
The affiliated network is not confined to the NCT. The same list names institutes at Greater Noida and Noida in Uttar Pradesh alongside campuses across Delhi, which is why the admissions portal publishes a separate NCR fee schedule for institutions outside Delhi (GGSIPU Admission and eCounselling Portal).
Seat supply inside a self-financing college is not all open either. In self-financing institutes other than minority institutions the sanctioned intake includes a 10% management quota unless the college surrenders it, while University Schools of Studies, government institutes and minority institutions carry no management quota at all (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 5). Even a management-quota seat requires a qualified test: the brochure makes it mandatory for a candidate seeking admission through management quota to have qualified in a notified National Level Test, the GGSIPU CET or CUET (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Important Instructions for Candidates).

Admission and counselling grievances have their own helpline, listed on the admission page as 011-25302167 and 011-25302169 (GGSIPU Admissions 2026-27).
Unresolved problems with admit card particulars are handled in person. The brochure directs candidates to the Facilitation Counter in the University campus at Dwarka, from 10.00 AM to 02.00 PM, with copies of the online application form and testimonials, two passport size photographs and a photo identity card (GGSIPU UG Admission Brochure 2026-27, Chapter 4). Exact dates, answer keys, results, cutoffs, seat matrix and per-programme weightages change every cycle. Admission routes are ranked per programme code in the brochure: CUET is the fallback used after the merit of the relevant national test or the university's own CET is exhausted, and the university describes the CET as a primary mode of admission for the majority of its programmes. Integrated law programmes admit through CLAT and MBBS through NEET; the B.Tech code admits through JEE Main, but at least one B.Tech code is listed CET-first, so verify each programme code against the current brochure. Anything per-cycle here is stated for the cycle it names and is taken from the conducting body's own notification; confirm it on the official website before acting on it. Expertie does not conduct any exam, process applications or charge fees.
