About JEE Advanced
JEE Advanced is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination and the national test for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology. The IITs run it themselves under the Joint Admission Board (JAB), with a different zonal IIT organising it each year on a rotating basis among IIT Roorkee, Kharagpur, Delhi, Kanpur, Bombay, Madras and Guwahati.
A JEE Advanced rank is the route to the IITs' B.Tech seats, allocated through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling. The Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and a handful of other institutes also admit on this rank, including the Indian Institute of Space Technology, the petroleum institutes IIPE and RGIPT, and Indian Maritime University Kolkata. Candidates who qualify may additionally sit the Architecture Aptitude Test to apply for B.Arch programmes.
To appear, candidates must first qualify JEE Main and finish among the top 2,50,000 rank-holders across all categories in the B.E./B.Tech paper. A candidate may attempt JEE Advanced at most twice, and those two attempts must fall in two consecutive years.
The exam is a computer-based test built around two compulsory papers, each three hours long and held on the same day. Both papers cover Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from the Class 11 and 12 syllabus, mixing single-correct and multiple-correct multiple-choice questions with numerical-answer types.
