About NMAT
NMAT by GMAC is a national-level entrance exam for admission to postgraduate management programmes, chiefly the MBA and its equivalents. The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), which also runs the GMAT, conducts it. NMIMS Mumbai administered the test earlier; GMAC now handles it.
Scores are accepted by more than 50 business schools. NMIMS Mumbai is the flagship, and the list also takes in SPJIMR, TAPMI, IBS Hyderabad and Xavier University Bhubaneswar. There is no rigid academic bar to sit the test itself; each accepting school fixes its own admission requirement, usually a recognised bachelor's degree with a minimum aggregate.
The test is computer-adaptive, and you can take it at a physical centre in many Indian cities or online under remote proctoring. It runs three sections, Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning, with 36 questions each for a total of 108. You choose the order in which you attempt them, and there is no negative marking. You may sit the exam up to three times in a cycle, one attempt and two retakes, with a 15-day gap between attempts.
