Acharya Narendra Dev College is the University of Delhi's science-first college, and it is among the youngest colleges in the capital to have pushed into the top of the government's NIRF college table. Opened in 1991, it sits at rank 21 in NIRF 2025, and the way it earns that place is unusual: its research and academic-practice score is far higher than its public-reputation score, so the standing rests on what happens in its laboratories more than on its name. That shapes every practical question here, because the college teaches almost nothing outside the sciences and commerce, admits every undergraduate through CUET-UG, and charges the fixed public-college fee printed in its own tables. Each figure here is pinned to a primary page: the fee against a named course, the seat block per category, the five NIRF parameters, each one linked beside the claim it supports.
Overview
Acharya Narendra Dev College, known on campus as ANDC, is a constituent college of the University of Delhi in Govindpuri near Kalkaji in south Delhi, and its own placement brochure records that it was established in 1991 and calls itself, in its own words, primarily the science college in the University of Delhi. That founding purpose still defines it. Where the older Delhi University colleges grew out of the humanities and commerce, ANDC was built around laboratory subjects, and it carries an A+ grade from the NAAC together with Department of Biotechnology Star College status, both stated on its official site.
It is a public college run under the University of Delhi, not a private one, and it should not be confused with Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology in Ayodhya, a separate state institution with a similar name. On its own vision page the college describes its aim as building an education-and-research hub with hands-on research exposure for undergraduates, which is a fair summary of what its scorecard and its labs reflect.
Courses & Fees
ANDC's degree list is the clearest sign of what it is. There are no B.A. honours subjects here at all: the undergraduate catalogue runs eight B.Sc. (Hons.) sciences plus B.Com. (Hons.), backed by four B.Sc. programme streams, and postgraduate teaching is limited to two M.Sc. subjects. A student who wants history, political science or English literature as an honours degree simply cannot take it at this college, and that narrow, science-and-commerce focus is the trade you are making when you rank it.
| Programme | Level | Entrance |
|---|---|---|
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology | Undergraduate | CUET-UG |
| B.Com. (Hons.) | Undergraduate | CUET-UG |
| B.Sc. (Prog.) Life Sciences; Physical Science with Chemistry, with Computer Science, or with Electronics | Undergraduate | CUET-UG |
| M.Sc. Chemistry; M.Sc. Mathematics | Postgraduate | CUET-PG / DU PG admission |
The undergraduate degrees follow Delhi University's four-year Undergraduate Curriculum Framework. As a constituent college, ANDC charges the university's subsidised fee, and it prints the actual per-course amount for the current session rather than a single lump sum. The table below is the 2026-27 first-year fee, where one figure covers the general, SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories alike and only the PwD category pays less.
| Programme (2026-27 first-year fee) | UR / SC / ST / OBC / EWS | PwD |
|---|---|---|
| B.Com. (Hons.) | Rs 19,555 | Rs 2,555 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science | Rs 32,770 | Rs 2,555 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science | Rs 39,875 | Rs 2,555 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology | Rs 19,555 | Rs 2,555 |
| B.Sc. (Prog.) Life Science and Physical Science streams | Rs 19,555 | Rs 2,555 |
Two courses cost more than the rest for the same reason: Biomedical Science at Rs 32,770 and Computer Science at Rs 39,875 carry heavier laboratory and computing heads than the standard science honours. Every other honours and programme course lands at Rs 19,555 in the first year, so the binding number is the one against your exact course on the college's own fee page.
Admissions
ANDC takes no application of its own and runs no management quota. Which undergraduate you become here is decided by your CUET-UG score alone, fed into Delhi University's Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) and matched round by round against the courses you preferenced. The part specific to this college is upstream of that, in the subjects you sit. Because the catalogue is science and commerce only, your CUET-UG subject combination has to map onto a B.Sc. or B.Com. course to be of any use here, and there is no humanities honours to fall back on if your science scores fall short. You register on the DU admission portal, take CUET-UG in the matching subjects, and place ANDC and its courses in your preference order for round-wise allocation.
Two supernumerary channels sit alongside the CSAS route, the Extra-Curricular Activities and Sports quotas, which score trials and certificates instead of a CUET rank and run through the college's own admission process. The two postgraduate M.Sc. courses admit through Delhi University's separate CUET-PG process rather than this undergraduate flow.
Cutoff
No fixed cutoff is published before admissions open, and treating a number from last year as this year's bar is the common mistake. Under CSAS the closing CUET-UG score for each course and category is fixed only once a round's seats are allotted, and a course can shut at one score early and reopen later as candidates move. Where ANDC's demand concentrates is worth knowing for planning: its costlier, most-sought courses, Computer Science and Biomedical Science, tend to close at the highest scores and earliest, while the broad B.Sc. programme streams clear later in the rounds. The only bar that will bind you is the closing CUET-UG score CSAS publishes for your specific course and category once that cycle's round has been allotted.
Placements
ANDC runs a Career Counselling and Placement Cell and publishes an annual placement brochure, several editions of which are archived on its placement page, up to the 2023-24 book. What it does not publish is a certified average or highest package, so any headline salary figure on an aggregator is unconfirmed by the college itself.
The verifiable on-record numbers are modest and come from the college's own placement cell report: in the 2019-20 season 18 students were selected across EY GDS Assurance, Royal Bank of Scotland and Concentrix, and an earlier 2018-19 drive drew nine recruiters. For a science college that is only half the picture. The brochure's longer list is of research and fellowship outcomes, from the INSPIRE Fellowship to summer research fellowships and its own Th!nk Lab student-research initiative, because a large share of graduates here move into postgraduate science and research rather than a campus job. The one audited progression signal is the college's NIRF Graduation Outcomes score of 68.85 in NIRF 2025, which measures how students complete and move on rather than what they earn.
Seat Matrix
Delhi University fixes ANDC's intake per course and per category and publishes it in the CSAS seat matrix each cycle. The 2024-25 distribution shows where the seats sit: Commerce is by far the largest single intake, each science honours runs a uniform block, and the four B.Sc. programme streams are slightly smaller.
| Course | Total seats | SC | ST | OBC | EWS | UR |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| B.Com. (Hons.) | 125 | 19 | 9 | 34 | 13 | 50 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science | 63 | 9 | 5 | 17 | 6 | 26 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology (each) | 63 | 9 | 5 | 17 | 6 | 26 |
| B.Sc. (Prog.) Life Sciences and each Physical Science stream (each) | 56 | 8 | 4 | 15 | 6 | 23 |
The number that binds your application is the current-cycle matrix on the DU admission portal, since the university revises these each year and adds its supernumerary quotas on top.
Rankings
The NIRF 2025 college ranking puts Acharya Narendra Dev College 21st in the country on an overall 68.21, and the score card behind that single number is strikingly uneven across its five parameters.
| NIRF 2025 parameter | ANDC score |
|---|---|
| Research and Professional Practice | 85.98 |
| Teaching, Learning and Resources | 71.93 |
| Graduation Outcomes | 68.85 |
| Outreach and Inclusivity | 64.74 |
| Perception | 28.61 |
| Overall | 68.21 |
Research and professional practice, at 85.98, is comfortably the strongest thing on the scorecard, and perception, at 28.61, is the weakest by a wide margin. That is the profile of a college judged high on its academic and laboratory work and low on fame, which fits a science-focused college only a few decades old that recruits mainly from Delhi rather than nationally. The rank is not a one-year event either: the college's placement brochure records the same rank 21 finish in NIRF 2023.
Departments
Teaching is organised into ten departments, and unlike the older DU colleges the balance tilts hard toward the laboratory sciences. The science and commerce departments are Biomedical Science, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Electronics, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology and Commerce, each running its honours or programme degree.
The one department that does not award an honours degree of its own is English, which delivers the university's compulsory language and ability-enhancement components rather than a B.A. (Hons.) English. That single fact captures the college in miniature: the humanities are present as service teaching, not as degrees, and the degree-granting weight is science and commerce.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The campus is built for laboratory teaching, and its own placement brochure counts 30 classrooms and 30 laboratories, many carrying projects funded by or run with bodies such as HBCSE-TIFR and the Department of Science and Technology, alongside over 300 wi-fi-enabled computers. Beyond the teaching labs, the brochure describes an entrepreneurship lab and an incubation centre for registered companies, which is a less common feature at an undergraduate college.
The wider support set, listed across the college site, covers a library, a Wi-Fi-enabled and differently-abled-accessible campus, sports fields, seminar and conference halls, and a medical and counselling facility. Student life runs through a broad set of societies, from the annual cultural festival Leiothrixx to the music, theatre, dance, debating and photography societies, an eco-club, a women's empowerment society, NSS and an INNOV8 robotics society, so the co-curricular life reaches well beyond the labs.
Hostel
No hostel appears anywhere in ANDC's published facilities, so incoming students should plan for a fully non-residential college. Students who move to Delhi for it generally take private paying-guest accommodation or shared flats in the Govindpuri and Kalkaji neighbourhoods around the campus, which are well served by the Delhi Metro. If guaranteed on-campus accommodation is a firm requirement for you, confirm the current position with the college before you rank it, because its published facilities do not include a hostel seat.
Faculty
Unlike several DU colleges that publish no staff count, ANDC states one directly: its placement brochure records 115 faculty members, many holding PhDs, with individual recognitions among them including an INSA Teacher Award and a BRICS Young Scientist selection. The teaching body is organised to supervise research as much as to lecture.
That research emphasis is institutional rather than incidental. As a Department of Biotechnology Star College it has run 21 interdisciplinary student-research projects under that scheme, and its brochure records a further five research projects carrying 1.59 crore in funding. It has also signed academic memoranda with bodies including the National Institute of Immunology and Auburn University at Montgomery in the United States. If you want a named supervisor before applying, each faculty member's degrees and research area sit on the relevant department page of the ANDC site.
Notable Alumni
We could not find a verified, documented list of notable alumni for Acharya Narendra Dev College from a reliable public record. Because the college opened only in 1991 and is not yet widely profiled, we would rather leave this section empty than repeat unverified names from aggregator pages, so it stays blank until a traceable record exists.
News & Articles
The college posts its own notices, admission press releases and event updates in the relevant sections of its website, which is the reliable place for anything time-sensitive such as a CSAS-round notice or a fee-deposit deadline. Two current, settled facts are worth a student's attention here: the NAAC A+ grade carried on the 2023 certificate filed on its accreditation page, and the rank 21 that the NIRF 2025 college list awarded it. Its archive of annual placement brochures is the honest year-on-year record of how the placement cell has done.
College Compare
Among Delhi University colleges ANDC's most telling comparison is not with the college directly above or below it, but with the two at the very top. On the NIRF 2025 table its research-and-professional-practice score of 85.98 is higher than Hindu College's 66.92 at rank 1 and Miranda House's 69.09 at rank 2, even though those two colleges finish far ahead overall. The gap that separates them is almost entirely perception, where ANDC scores 28.61 against Hindu College's 96.08.
Read plainly, that means a science applicant weighing ANDC against a bigger-name DU college is trading brand recognition, not laboratory strength, and getting a college built only for the sciences and commerce in return. Where ANDC gives ground is to the dedicated research leaders above it: Hans Raj College and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam College both post markedly higher research scores than ANDC. So the honest read is a strong-research, low-profile college, well suited to a student certain of a science or commerce path and less so to one who wants the widest choice of subjects.
