Overview
About SEED
SEED, the Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design, is the entrance test for admission to the design programmes at Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) in Pune, a constituent institute of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). A valid SEED score is mandatory for the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Master of Design (M.Des) courses at SID, and a score stays valid for one year.
The exam runs in an online proctored format on a PC or laptop. It carries 60 questions answered within one hour, mixing multiple-choice, column-matching, fill-in-the-blank, image-based and comprehension formats. The questions test visual sensitivity and judgement; observational, perceptual and reasoning abilities; problem solving; basic logic of science and mathematics; art, craft and culture; and design and environment.
SEED is only the first stage of selection. Candidates who qualify then take a Portfolio Review and Personal Interaction (PRPI), where they submit a portfolio, complete an assigned task and join an online interaction. Final admission rests on the combined performance across the SEED score, the portfolio, the PRPI task and the personal interaction.
At the undergraduate level, SID offers B.Des across specialisations that include Communication Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design and Fashion Communication, among others. The postgraduate M.Des is offered in a UI/UX specialisation. SEED is the common gateway to these programmes.
