About Pearl Academy Entrance Exam

The Pearl Academy entrance exam is not a common test shared by many colleges. It is the selection process for Pearl Academy's own Bachelor's and Master's programmes in design and business, taken online in two stages: a written test, then a personal interview at which your portfolio is discussed. Which written test you sit depends on the programme, several groups of applicants are excused from it altogether, and the dates repeat through the year rather than falling on one national exam day.

The written test splits by programme family. Applicants to the fashion, interiors, product and communication design programmes sit the General Proficiency Test (GPT) and the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), while applicants to the BBA and MBA programmes sit the GPT only, according to the Pearl Academy Entrance Examination Process and Guidelines page.

Either route sits inside a two-step application for all degree programmes: an application form first, then an entrance exam made of an online written test followed by an online personal interview with an expert panel, both of which the Pearl Academy How to Apply page says can be taken from a home computer.

Expect to meet this process under more than one name. The exam page calls it the Pearl Entrance Exam, the AY 2026 scholarship policies call it the Creative Arts Education Society Entrance Examination, and the fee structure page speaks of a "Comprehensive Aptitude Interview" without saying whether that term takes in the written test. The second name is the society behind the institution: Pearl Academy is a unit of Creative Arts Education Society, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, in New Delhi, as the general instructions on the Important Dates and Guidelines page state.

Important dates

Pearl Academy runs its admissions in cycles rather than on a single exam date. Its admission cycle FAQ describes multiple cycles within one academic year, "typically four phases spread across January, April, June, and August", and says the result of one cycle does not carry over to another.

Pearl's dates FAQ, which carries no publication date, gives this schedule for 2026-27 admissions to the B.Des, M.Des, BBA and MBA programmes:

For the June 2026 session, Pearl's admission deadlines post, published on 20 May 2026, listed an application deadline of June 21, 2026, the written exam on June 22, 2026 and the personal interview on June 23, 2026, with the written-exam admit card released on June 21 and the interview admit card on June 22.

As of September 2026, the degree-programme table on the Important Dates and Guidelines page, headed "Applications for AY 2026-2027 Batch", gave the last date to apply as "Final Admissions Window Closes 10th September", with no year printed beside that date. The same table listed the written exam only as "As Per Admission Schedule" and said interviews are scheduled individually after application review.

At the same point, choosing Undergraduate or Postgraduate as the course type on the Pearl Academy online application form brought up two exam cycles, "January 2027 Cycle" and "April 2027 Cycle", with no dates beside either; neither the dates page, the exam page nor the dates FAQ gave a schedule for them.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

The general academic bar is short. The How to Apply page asks Bachelor's applicants for a 10 + 2 pass certificate in any stream and Master's applicants for a Bachelor's degree or diploma from a recognised university in any stream, and it lets candidates still sitting their final examinations apply and receive provisional admission if selected. The page sets no age limit and no minimum mark, but one programme FAQ does: Pearl's FAQ on the Mumbai interior design course says applicants to the B.Des in Interior Architectural Design must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks.

Provisional admission carries a deadline. Pearl's FAQ on applying before results says self-attested copies of mark sheets and degree or passing certificates must be submitted by 30th September of the relevant year, and that the provisional admission stands cancelled if they are not.

Pearl's pages list several ways past the GPT and DAT, each tied to a particular group of applicants. The exam page calls the first two a "Non-Exam Pathway":

• NIFT, NID or UCEED shortlist (design programmes): applicants shortlisted in any of those examinations are exempted from the written exam and go straight to the personal interview, according to the Pearl Academy exam page.
• BBA with 60% or more in the board examination: these applicants are exempted from the written exam and qualify directly for the interview, on the same exam page. The exemption is written for BBA applicants, not MBA.
• International category: foreign nationals, PIO cardholders and OCI cardholders have the written examination (both GPT and DAT) waived and are selected on a personal interview and portfolio evaluation, per Pearl's FAQ for international students.
• CUET (undergraduate, AY 2026): the scholarship page says applicants with a valid CUET percentile "may be considered for direct admission and scholarship benefits", without saying which stage that skips. For BBA only, Pearl's FAQ on CUET for the BBA in Advertising and Brand Management is more specific: a valid CUET score, like a board mark of 60% or above, lets the applicant skip the written test and go straight to the online interview. The exam page's own BBA pathway mentions only the board mark.
• Lateral entry and migration: the Lateral Entry and Migration page admits holders of a 3-year diploma under the 10+3 scheme into the 3rd semester, and students who have completed their 1st year at partner institutions or other recognised universities, after assessment by Pearl's APL Admission Panel and a personal interview.

Step by step

Application process and fee

You can apply online, or collect and pay for a paper form at any Pearl Academy campus. The application fee is Rs 2,000 for Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes and Rs 500 for Professional Certificate Courses, according to the How to Apply page.

The online route runs through the Pearl Academy admissions portal, where the form asks for a course type (Undergraduate, Postgraduate or 11 Month Professional Courses), an exam cycle, a course and a study campus. The payment guidelines on the Important Dates and Guidelines page describe the order: register with basic details, verify the OTP sent to your mobile and email, pay through PayU or Paytm, receive a confirmation email and SMS carrying your online application form number, then return to complete the form and click "Click here for final submit". The same page states that the Rs 2,000 degree-programme fee is non-refundable.

Each cycle is a separate application. The admission cycle FAQ says you can apply to more than one cycle at the same time by filling a separate form for each and paying the fee again, Rs 2,000 per degree application, and that shortlisting and scores are not carried across.

Before the exam

Admit card and exam day

Pearl's admit cards come only from its own website. The general instructions on the Important Dates and Guidelines page tell candidates to download them from the Pearl website only, and its login guidelines give two ways into the student portal: application form number with OTP, or mobile number with OTP. The exam page's download link opens the Pearl Academy admit card login.

The admit card's release date shifts from one Pearl page to another. The exam page says written-exam admit cards are published 2 days before the written exam and interview admit cards 1 day before the interview. The general instructions on the dates page say admit cards for both the written test and the interview "will be available 4 days before the Written Test", and the results FAQ also says written-exam admit cards are issued four days before the exam date. The two 2026 schedules Pearl published match neither four-day statement: the dates FAQ put the April written-exam admit card two days before the first exam day, and the June admission deadlines post put it one day before the exam. The AY 2026-2027 table on the same dates page says only that admit cards are "Shared After Application Submission (where applicable)".

On the day of the written exam, the exam page says applicants can log in at any time between 10 AM and 1:00 PM on their specified dates. The link to the live exam is on the admit card, and each candidate gets a single passkey for it.

The online examination manual and FAQs linked from the exam page is a manual whose file name and exam login link both carry 2023, written for a webcam-proctored test. It asks candidates to run a system check before the exam, allow webcam and audio access, keep their face visible throughout, and stay in full-screen mode, warning that a candidate who switches the window is logged out automatically in 15 seconds.

Pearl Academy's exam page gives the written test a longer clock for design than for business, and the same interview length to both:

The portfolio is assessed inside the interview rather than as a separate round: the exam page says portfolio showcase and discussion on the portfolio will be part of the interview process. It publishes the time allowed but not the number of questions or the marks for each section.

What to study

Syllabus

The exam page carries no topic list. What each test covers is described in a short answer on Pearl's FAQ on the interior design entrance exam: the GPT evaluates proficiency in English, logical reasoning, quantitative ability and data interpretation, and the DAT evaluates aptitude for creativity, drawing, designability, observation and imagination, environmental awareness and communication skills. For practice, the exam page offers a sample paper for each route, both made up of short objective questions, most with options (a) to (d).

The GPT sample paper mixes reading passages, spotting the part of a sentence that is not acceptable in standard written English, word meanings, spelling, one-word substitution, number and letter series, seating-arrangement and ranking puzzles, odd-one-out sets, arithmetic on ratios, simple interest, percentages and mixtures, and general knowledge questions on Indian awards, science and public offices.

The GPT + DAT sample paper adds design questions on pattern making, fabric grain, colour schemes and colour notation systems, graphic design, crafts such as Chikankari, garment names, identifying logos and monuments from images, and media terms. None of those design questions asks for a drawing or sketch, even though the interior design FAQ lists drawing among the aptitudes the DAT evaluates, and neither the exam page nor that FAQ says whether the live DAT includes a drawing task.

How to prepare

Preparation and books

Beyond the sample papers, Pearl's exam page adds one more practice tool, a mock test opened after you apply. The exam page says a mock test is made available on the Pearl website within 24 hours after the application form is submitted, and lists passkeys for a GPT demo assessment and a GPT+DAT demo assessment. It also says the mock link applies to June cycle candidates only, while Pearl's FAQ on the fashion entrance exam says the mock is specifically for January cycle candidates, as does the Entrance Exam 2026 post of 20 May 2026. Past those two papers and the mock, nothing on the exam page recommends a book or a coaching course.

Both stages are online. The How to Apply page says the written exam and the personal interview can be taken or attended from your home computer, and the AY 2026-2027 table on the dates page gives the mode as "Online / As Scheduled by Admissions Team". The general instructions on that page still keep a clause reserving the right to cancel, add or change entrance test centres, but name no centre.

After the exam

Answer key

The one statement about answer keys on Pearl's pages is a refusal, printed at the end of both sample papers linked from the exam page, including the GPT sample paper: "No answer key will be provided for this sample paper. This is just for your understanding about the exam pattern and difficulty level." For the live test, the exam page, the dates page and the results FAQ say nothing about a key or a way to contest an answer.

Scores

Result and scorecard

The admission result comes only after every stage of selection is complete. Pearl's results FAQ says the result is published on the Pearl Academy website once a candidate has completed the written exam, the interview and any portfolio evaluation, and that a digital copy, with the Admission Offer Letter for successful candidates, is emailed to the registered address. Written-test scorecards are posted separately on the admissions portal and can be downloaded after logging in.

The offer letter can also carry a scholarship. The fee structure page states: "All Pearl academy applicants for Academic Year 2026 are automatically eligible for scholarship, based on their performance in the Comprehensive Aptitude Interview." It adds that scholarship results will be shared in the offer letter itself.

The named AY 2026 policies on the scholarship page, all written for Bachelor's applicants, are graded on other measures. Each is a waiver on the first academic year's semester component fees, and Pearl's own test appears in them as a condition rather than as the score that sets the waiver:

Read the Board Merit terms closely, because two of its clauses pull in opposite directions. Its eligibility clause on the scholarship page says the award rests solely on Class 12 board marks "and not on the basis of any other examination or assessment", yet its benefits clause ties the waiver to performance in the Creative Arts Education Society Entrance Examination.

Scores you need

Cutoff

No qualifying mark for the GPT or DAT appears on Pearl's exam, dates or how-to-apply pages. The June 2026 admission deadlines post says candidates who pass the written test move on to the personal interview, without saying what a pass takes. What Pearl's FAQ on programme and campus choice does name is the candidate's merit rank, which decides whether the first programme-campus preference can be met. The 60% board mark on the exam page is an exemption threshold for BBA applicants, not a cutoff.

Getting a seat

Counselling and seat allotment

Pearl Academy matches candidates to a programme and campus itself, working down the preferences on the application form. The FAQ on programme and campus choice says candidates list programme and campus preferences in order of priority when they apply, that a candidate whose merit rank misses the first combination is offered the second subject to seat availability, and that a candidate who fits neither can apply afresh in a later cycle with a new form and fee.

Accepting the offer means paying in full. Pearl's FAQ on partial payment says partial or instalment payment is not accepted at seat confirmation, that the full semester fee is due by the deadline in the Admission Offer Letter, and that missing it may pass the seat to the next candidate on the merit list.

Participating institutes

The test fills seats only at Pearl Academy's own campuses. The Pearl Academy accreditation page names them as Delhi West (Rajouri Campus), Delhi South (New Friends Colony), Jaipur (Kukas), Mumbai (Marol) and Bengaluru (Residency Road), and the study-campus list on the online application form offers the same cities, Bengaluru, Delhi (South), Delhi (West), Jaipur and Mumbai, narrowing with the course chosen.

Under the heading "Academic Year 2024 Intake Onwards", the same accreditation page says Bachelor's and Master's degrees at those campuses are "awarded by CAES-RGNIYD", and its Master's Programs panel describes Creative Arts Education Society as an implementation partner of the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD). The Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development website describes RGNIYD, in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, as an Institution of National Importance by Act of Parliament No. 35/2012 under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. Pearl's FAQ on the degree model says that under this arrangement students in Bachelor's (B.Des and BBA) and Master's (M.Des and MBA) programmes receive degrees recognised by the UGC, while the application form notes that all programmes listed on it are subject to approval of RGNIYD.

The accreditation page also carries a second, undated description. Its Bachelor's Programs panel, headed "Accreditation Timeline -Pearl Academy", opens by saying students in Pearl's 3-year and 4-year Bachelor's programs are eligible to receive a degree on successful completion, then describes an option in which students who complete an Advanced Diploma move into the final year of a Bachelor's degree at one of Pearl's partner universities abroad, warning that such an international degree is presently not equivalent to an Indian degree as per the Association of Indian Universities. Nothing in the panel ties it to a particular intake or year.
