About MITID DAT
MITID DAT is the Design Aptitude Test run once a year by MIT Institute of Design (MITID), the design faculty of MIT-ADT University in Pune. The campus sits at Rajbaug, Loni-Kalbhor, on the Pune-Solapur highway. The test screens candidates at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The DAT is the route into MITID's design degrees. At undergraduate level it feeds admission to the B.Des and B.Des (Fashion) programs; at postgraduate level it feeds the M.Des, whose specializations carry their own discipline requirements. The same test is used across the MIT group's design campuses, including MIT Institute of Design at Pune, Avantika University at Ujjain, and MIT University at Shillong, with each institute drawing up its own merit list.
Eligibility follows the level. B.Des applicants need a 10+2 pass from a recognised board and may apply from any stream. M.Des applicants need a bachelor's degree, with the acceptable discipline depending on the specialization chosen.
Admission runs in stages rather than on a single score. The DAT combines computer-based sections covering design inclination, analytical and logical reasoning, and verbal and non-verbal communication, alongside a free-hand drawing and visualization component. Candidates who clear it move to a studio test and then a personal interview conducted by the institute.
