TISS National Entrance Test
Overview
About TISSNET
TISSNET, the TISS National Entrance Test, was the postgraduate entrance examination of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai. TISS was founded in 1936, is Asia's oldest institute for professional social work education, and has been a deemed university since 1964. The test ran nationally and screened candidates who held a bachelor's degree for entry to the institute's master's programmes.
A TISSNET score opened postgraduate study across the four TISS campuses at Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad. Those programmes cover social work, social sciences, public policy, public health, habitat studies, education, gender studies, human rights, media and cultural studies, law, and management and labour studies.
TISS no longer conducts TISSNET. From the 2024-25 admission cycle, after the Ministry of Education and UGC moved postgraduate admissions to the Common University Entrance Test, the institute switched to national scores. Most PG programmes now admit on CUET-PG, run by the National Testing Agency (NTA), while select management programmes, including the MA in Human Resource Management and Labour Relations, use CAT scores. You apply through the exam mapped to your chosen programme rather than a TISS-specific paper.
