Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT Focus Edition)

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is an admissions test for graduate business education. It is owned and administered by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), a non-profit association of graduate business schools. The test now runs as the GMAT Focus Edition, which is what business schools mean when they ask for a GMAT score today.

A GMAT score is the entry point to graduate management programmes, most often the MBA and also specialised master's and executive courses. GMAC sets no fixed eligibility bar; each school and programme decides who qualifies and how much weight the score carries. Business schools worldwide accept it, including several Indian B-schools that take the GMAT alongside or in place of domestic tests.

The GMAT Focus Edition is computer-adaptive and runs for two hours and fifteen minutes across three sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, and Data Insights. Quantitative Reasoning covers problem-solving without geometry, Verbal Reasoning covers reading comprehension and critical reasoning, and Data Insights measures how you read and combine data from tables, graphics, and multiple sources. The total score runs on a scale of 205 to 805 in 10-point steps.

You can sit the test at a GMAC test centre or online under remote proctoring, and appointments are booked year-round rather than on fixed national dates. Retakes are allowed within limits GMAC sets, so applicants tend to plan the test around their programme deadlines.
