About IBSAT
The IBSAT exam for the 2026 cycle is scheduled for December 2026, and candidates write it at home: it is a two hour remote proctored computer based test of 140 multiple choice questions with no negative marking. One application of Rs 1800 covers all nine IBS campuses. Those figures are the conducting body's own, set out in the IBS admission FAQ and on its admission process page (IBS admission FAQ, IBS admission process). What one fee does not buy is one institution: the nine campuses sit under three separate legal entities, and which entity runs a campus is what decides whether a candidate finishes with an MBA or a PGPM.
IBSAT is the admission test ICFAI Business School runs for its own seats. The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education conducts it as an online aptitude test, and the IBSAT 2026 application form is common to MBA and PGPM admission at the 9 IBS campuses for the 2027-2029 batch (IBS admission process).
It is not the only way in. A candidate holding a valid CAT, NMAT by GMAC, XAT or GMAT score from 2024 onwards can apply with that instead of writing IBSAT, and reaches the same selection process (IBS admission FAQ). That makes IBSAT a convenience for applicants who did not sit one of those tests, rather than a gate every IBS applicant has to pass.
What follows the score is entirely in house. IBS calls qualified candidates to its own selection process at the Hyderabad campus and allots campuses itself, so nothing between the result and the seat is run by an outside counselling authority.

Calendar
Important dates
Registration for IBSAT 2026 is open. IBS publishes an application period running from 1 July to the third week of December 2026, and labels every row of its calendar tentative except the exam month itself (IBS admission process). The hedge is the conducting body's own, not a third party estimate.

Two of those rows are hard deadlines rather than months. The application has to be in on or before 19 December 2026, and a score from CAT, NMAT by GMAC, XAT or GMAT can be added to an application already submitted up to January 31, 2027, after which a selection process call letter will be issued in January 2027 (IBS admission FAQ).

Who can apply
Eligibility criteria
The 50 per cent requirement is measured across the whole degree. IBS takes the aggregate percentage of marks secured in all the subjects of all the years, and asks for a minimum of 15 years of education on a 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 basis (IBS admission FAQ).
Two conditions run well past the exam. A candidate whose degree was not taught in English has to submit a TOEFL, NELT or IELTS score by May 31, 2027, and a final year candidate has to complete every graduation requirement, practical examinations and viva included, before that same date, with proof of graduation due by November 01, 2027 (IBS admission FAQ).
The PhD route is a separate bar, and the admission pages set it out at more length than the MBA one. On top of the 50 per cent graduation requirement it asks for a full time postgraduate degree in management with 55 per cent or more, or a full time postgraduate degree in Economics, Commerce, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Statistics, Mathematics or an allied discipline with 55 per cent or more, or a professional qualification such as CFA, CA, CWA or CS with 55 per cent or more, and in every case a minimum of 17 years of regular education on a 10+2+3+2 or 10+2+4+2 basis. A candidate admitted on a postgraduate degree from outside management has to take the first year MBA courses before continuing in the programme (IBS admission FAQ).
Nobody checks any of this at application. IBS says the scrutiny of eligibility criteria commences from August 2027 onwards, that the onus of satisfying it rests solely with the candidate, and that inaccurate or misleading information, or an omission, may result in the admission offer being withdrawn with the fee paid non-refundable (IBS admission FAQ).
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks (English medium); final-year students may apply provided they complete requirements before the deadline.
Step by step
Application process and fee
One form, one fee, every campus. The application fee is Rs 1800 and it is a single application for all 9 IBS campuses (IBS admission process).
The form comes in two versions. Online registration runs through the IBS admissions portal, and the offline route is a printed bulletin bought at any of the 65 IBS branches (IBS admission FAQ), where IBS asks for the application fee in cash (IBS admission process). An online payment produces an application number and password by email and SMS, with the printed bulletin following within a week (IBS admission process); an offline buyer logs in with the application number at the top of the voucher and the voucher number under its scratch panel (IBS application guidelines). The candidate then completes the profile and past academic record and takes a live photograph on a webcam or phone camera, which IBS puts at 20 to 30 minutes end to end (IBS application guidelines).
Marks are entered rounded, and the rounding rule is published rather than left to guesswork: 81.01 to 81.49 goes in as 81 and 81.50 as 82, while a CGPA from an institution with no conversion scheme is divided by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplied by 100 (IBS application guidelines).
The test route is chosen at the end of the form. The final step asks whether the application is being made through IBSAT 2026 or with a CAT, NMAT by GMAC, XAT or GMAT score from 2024 onwards (IBS application guidelines).
Before the exam
Admit card and exam day
IBS does not publish an admit card release date on the admission pages it maintains for this cycle. What those pages give instead is the sequence around the test: log in to the profile page created at registration, complete the remaining information and select the test score to be submitted, then write IBSAT on the scheduled date (IBS admission process).
The document IBS does name by month is a later one. A selection process call letter will be issued in January 2027 once scores have been updated, and that is what carries a candidate to the Hyderabad campus in February 2027 (IBS admission FAQ).

Verbal Ability alone is more than a third of the paper, which is a heavier English weighting than the four way split suggests at a glance. And because nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, a blank and a wrong response score the same, so there is no scoring reason to leave a question unattempted.

What to study
Syllabus
IBS describes the syllabus by ability rather than by topic. Its admission process page says the test is aimed at the applicant's ability in quantitative techniques, data interpretation, data adequacy, vocabulary, analytical reasoning and reading comprehension (IBS admission process).
There is no topic by topic syllabus document on those admission pages, and no weightage published beyond the section counts. The nearest thing to a specification IBS issues is its own mock test, which goes up on the IBS site from July 2026 onwards (IBS admission FAQ).

How to prepare
Preparation and books
The mock tests are the only practice material the conducting body vouches for. IBS says they are provided to familiarise candidates with the IBSAT test and are available on its site from July 2026 onwards (IBS admission FAQ).
The IBS admission pages carry no reading list for IBSAT. Any book order a candidate follows is therefore somebody's reading of the section names, not a specification from the body that sets the paper, and the section counts remain the only weighting IBS states.
Where it is held
Exam centres
There are no IBSAT centres to choose between. IBS describes the test as a two hour remote proctored computer based test that can be taken from home (IBS admission FAQ), so no city allotment, travel or reporting time enters the picture.
Geography matters at two other points in the cycle, and both are worth knowing before planning around them. The 65 IBS branches are where an offline application is bought, and the IBS Hyderabad campus is where the selection process is held (IBS admission FAQ).
After the exam
Answer key
The admission FAQ IBS publishes for this cycle steps from the test in December 2026 straight to the result in the first week of January 2027 (IBS admission FAQ). Nothing is placed between the two: no key goes up for scrutiny, and no window is opened in which a candidate could contest a question.
Questions about the test therefore go to the admissions office rather than to a challenge portal. IBS gives ibsat@ibsindia.org as the address for IBSAT queries (IBS admission process).
Scores
Result and scorecard
The IBSAT 2026 result will be declared in the first week of January 2027 (IBS admission FAQ).
Declaring it does not close the score window. A candidate who applied through IBSAT can still update scores online on or before January 31, 2027, and the selection process call letter follows the updated score (IBS admission FAQ).
Scores also feed the scholarship list. IBS says 500 scholarships of Rs 2 lakh each are planned for the Class of 2029 for top performers in the management entrance test, adjusted at Rs 1 lakh each against the first and second term programme fee instalments (IBS admission FAQ). Test performance is one of four routes onto that list, the others being wards of defence personnel serving or retired, wards of IBS alumni, and physically challenged candidates (IBS admission FAQ).
Scores you need
Cutoff
A single IBSAT cutoff would have nothing to attach itself to, because the number that decides an outcome belongs to a campus rather than to the test. Step 7 of the admission process allots a campus according to the candidate's priority list and the cutoff scores of each campus (IBS admission process), which is nine sets of figures applied after the selection process, not one bar cleared in December.
One qualifying number is published, and it belongs to the PhD route rather than the MBA or PGPM intake: a PhD applicant applying through the IBSAT 2026 portal on a GMAT or CAT score from 2024 onwards needs 70 percentile (IBS admission FAQ). The MBA and PGPM material on the same pages carries no equivalent figure.
Getting a seat
Counselling and seat allotment
Everything after the result happens at one address. Qualified candidates are called to the selection process at the IBS Hyderabad campus in February 2027, and the final selection is based on performance in the micro presentation and the personal interview together with past academic performance in Class X, Class XII and graduation (IBS admission FAQ).
Selection briefings come first: seminars at which IBS faculty answer applicants' questions and advise them on preparing for the selection process, with each applicant allotted a date and time (IBS admission FAQ).
The micro presentation is not a group discussion, and its mechanics are published in full. A candidate picks a number between 1 and 100, each mapped to a pre-assigned topic, then gets 1 minute to prepare and 3 minutes to speak in front of a batch of 9 to 11 fellow candidates and 2 panel members. A second number may be drawn if the first topic is hard, one swap only, and no questions are put to the candidate during or after the presentation (IBS admission process).
Campus allotment comes last. It runs off the preference list submitted on the day of the interview, alongside the educational qualifications and the selection process scores, and a refundable admission fee then secures the seat (IBS admission process).
Where it is accepted
Participating institutes
Nine campuses take the score, and three different bodies stand behind them. IBS Hyderabad and IBS Bangalore, an off campus centre of IFHE Hyderabad, are constituents of the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, a deemed to be university under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. IBS Dehradun is a constituent of the ICFAI University, Dehradun, recognised by UGC under Section 2(f) of that Act, and IBS Jaipur of the ICFAI University, Jaipur, notified by the Government of Rajasthan under Act No. 20 of 2011 (IBS admission FAQ).
The other five sit outside that structure entirely. IBS Ahmedabad, IBS Gurgaon, IBS Kolkata, IBS Mumbai and IBS Pune are independent professional institutes offering the PGPM, and IBS states that they are neither affiliated to nor off campus centres of any university (IBS admission FAQ). The MBA is the qualification at Hyderabad, Bangalore, Dehradun and Jaipur; the PGPM is what the other five award.
Which entity runs a campus is what decides who awards the qualification at the end, so it is worth settling before the campus preference list is filed rather than after.
