Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test

The Nursing Officer Recruitment Common Eligibility Test (NORCET) is a national recruitment exam run by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. It fills Nursing Officer posts, a Group-B role, at AIIMS New Delhi and other participating AIIMS, against the vacancies each institute has open. NORCET is a job-selection test, not an admission entrance: candidates sit it to compete for a government nursing post after already holding a nursing qualification, rather than to enter a degree programme.

To be eligible a candidate needs a B.Sc (Hons.) Nursing, B.Sc Nursing, or Post-Basic B.Sc Nursing from an institute or university recognised by the Indian Nursing Council or a State Nursing Council, plus registration as a Nurse and Midwife with the State or Indian Nursing Council. There is a second route: a Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) from a recognised institute, registration as a Nurse and Midwife, and two years of experience in a hospital of at least 50 beds gained after the essential qualification. Age limits apply, with category relaxations set out in each notification.

NORCET runs as a computer-based test. Recent editions have two stages, a preliminary screening and then a mains, after which shortlisted candidates go through document verification and a medical examination. The preliminary stage covers nursing subjects alongside general knowledge and aptitude, while the mains leans on clinical and scenario-based nursing.

AIIMS holds NORCET on a recruitment-driven basis, releasing numbered editions as vacancies arise rather than on a fixed annual calendar. Notifications and applications are published through the official AIIMS examinations portal.
