Kristu Jayanti College, K. Narayanapura, Kothanur P.o. Bengaluru 560077

Bengaluru Urban, Karnataka Est. 1999 Official site Updated
NIRF College
#34

Kristu Jayanti College spent more than a quarter of a century as an affiliated college in north Bengaluru, and then stopped being one. In July 2025 the Ministry of Education conferred deemed-to-be-university status on it, so the institution taking applications for the 2026 session writes its own degrees and runs its own admissions, while the national ranking that carries its reputation was awarded in the college category. A family planning around it is therefore reading two different institutions in the same search results. The fee, the seat count and the selection route are all decided in house, and the fee is published one programme page at a time.

Overview

The institution opened in 1999 as an affiliated institution under Bangalore University and is managed by the St Joseph Province, Kottayam, Kerala, of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, which its own history page calls the first indigenous Catholic religious congregation in India. Academic autonomy followed in 2013. The change of legal status came on 08 July 2025, when the Department of Higher Education issued letter No. 9-13/2025-U.3(A) conferring deemed-to-be-university status under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, in the General Category.

Three separate bodies have assessed the place, and that same page dates each of them. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council reaccredited it at grade A++ in the third cycle in 2021, which is the mark most families will have seen quoted. The Department of Biotechnology, under the Ministry of Science and Technology, accorded it DBT Star College status under the strengthening component in 2020, and that one covers the undergraduate science teaching rather than the institution as a whole. The programmes of the Institute of Management carry a further accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs in the United States, so the management degrees are the only ones here measured against a standard set outside India.

Teaching still happens on one site, at K. Narayanapura, Kothanur, in the north of the city. A second is announced rather than running: the institution says its New Airport Road campus, a 7.5 lakh square foot built-up site with 100 classrooms, 12 seminar halls and a 1,200-seater auditorium, will become fully functional from the upcoming academic year. Its hostel page already lists two hostels there, so the move has begun at the edges.

Enrolment is large for something that spent its life being called a college. Head count reaches 10,574 undergraduates and 2,525 postgraduates in the NIRF 2026 college submission. Only 3,746 of those undergraduates are Karnataka students. Another 6,188 come from other Indian states and 640 from outside the country, so most of the room has moved city or country to be there, and the fee schedule charges most of them extra for exactly that.

Courses & Fees

There is no single fee here, so any one number quoted for this campus is the fee for one programme. The institution sets an academic fee for every programme it runs and revises it at each intake. The eleven below span the published 2026 rates, from the cheapest degree on the list to the dearest, which costs about seven times as much.

ProgrammeLevelFee years shownAcademic fee a year
BA English LiteratureUG3Rs 70,000
B.Sc. PsychologyUG3Rs 1,00,000
B.ComUG3Rs 1,10,000
BCAUG3Rs 1,25,000
BBAUG3Rs 1,40,000
B.Com. International Finance and Accounting (ACCA Integrated)UG3Rs 1,90,000
Postgraduate Diploma in Data AnalyticsPG1Rs 50,000
M.Sc. EconomicsPG2Rs 70,000
MSWPG2Rs 85,000
MCAPG2Rs 1,90,000
MBAPG2Rs 4,80,000

The premium in that table sits on the professional-body degrees rather than on the discipline. An ACCA-integrated B.Com costs nearly three times a BA in English taught on the same campus, and its own fee page then states that registration and examination fees for ACCA, CMA, CPA, CFA and CA are not included in the programme fee and must be paid separately, which is the charge families most often miss. The specialisation premium inside the management family, by contrast, is far smaller than the reputation gap suggests: business analytics, fintech and international business each price a little above the general MBA on their own fee pages rather than a tier above it.

The fee-years column needs reading carefully. Every undergraduate page prints three years at the same annual rate, but the degree underneath it is a four-year Bachelor's (Honours) with an exit option after three, as the B.Com page sets out. Multiplying the annual fee by three gives the cost of the exit degree, not of the honours one. No rate for a fourth year appears anywhere on the site, and there is no consolidated fee schedule to check any of it against.

Two further charges land on top of the annual fee. Every fee page carries a non-refundable admission registration fee of Rs 5,000, and a one-time first-year charge is levied on the basis of where you studied before.

Where you qualifiedOne-time first-year fee
Karnataka, Karnataka PU BoardNil
Karnataka, other than Karnataka PU BoardRs 10,000
States other than KarnatakaRs 20,000
International board in IndiaRs 20,000
NRI studentsRs 40,000
SAARC countriesRs 50,000
Foreign nationals, PIO and OCIRs 1,00,000

The postgraduate version of that slab is worded differently and worth checking separately: it waives the charge for the institution's own graduates and for graduates of public universities in Karnataka, and starts at Rs 10,000 for anyone else in the state, as the M.Sc. Economics page sets out. Every fee page carries the same undertaking that no capitation fee or donation is collected beyond the amounts printed. The application itself is priced by route and is non-refundable in every case: Rs 1,000 for a UG course, Rs 1,200 for PG and law, Rs 1,500 for the MBA and MCA, Rs 2,000 for a PhD, per the admissions page.

Admissions

Admission is run in house from end to end. You apply on the institution's own portal, upload marks sheets, sit a screening step that is an entrance test or an interview depending on the programme, pay, and receive an admission letter, which is the five-stage sequence the admissions page sets out. Karnataka's state counselling has no seat to allot here, and the only external test in the picture is the CAT or MAT score the MBA family asks for.

The qualifying bar is low and almost uniform, which surprises applicants expecting a competitive cut. An aggregate of 40% in the 10+2 or PUC examination clears you for a B.Com, and the same floor runs across the undergraduate catalogue, with subject conditions rather than higher marks on the science, computing and accounting routes. A master's programme asks for 50% in the bachelor's degree, or 45% for SC and ST candidates, which is what the MSW page prints and what the rest of the postgraduate catalogue repeats. The MBA adds the national test score to that same percentage.

Paperwork holds up more admissions here than marks do. The admissions page waives the migration certificate for Karnataka PU students at undergraduate entry, and at postgraduate entry for anyone arriving from Bangalore University, Bengaluru North University, Bengaluru City University or Bengaluru Central University, which is the four-way split of the old Bangalore University. An applicant from anywhere else has to chase one from their previous board or university before the reporting date. Everything else goes in as originals with a photocopy set, and a result sheet attested by the head of the previous institution is accepted only until the real marks card arrives.

Timing catches late movers hardest. Applications open early in the calendar year and the dashboard closes each stream as it fills; deep into the 2026 cycle the undergraduate, postgraduate, MBA, law and doctoral streams all show as closed and only the LLM remains open, with the page warning that a late application is considered only against vacancies and that merit-based allotment may place a candidate in a similar domain if the preferred stream has gone. That page also states that no agent is authorised to act for the institution in admissions.

Cutoff

There is no closing rank at Kristu Jayanti, and the expected-cutoff tables that circulate under its name have no issuing authority behind them. Karnataka's common entrance counselling allots no seat here, so no government body releases a category-wise closing rank against it, and the institution publishes no internal merit list after a round either.

The only published number an applicant meets is the qualifying percentage, 40% at 10+2 for undergraduate entry and 50% in the bachelor's degree for postgraduate. Clearing it makes an application admissible, not successful. What settles a competitive programme is the entrance test or interview at stage three of the institution's own five-stage process, and no score, weightage or result from that stage is published anywhere. Against a catalogue where every stream except the LLM had already closed late in the 2026 cycle, the date you apply is the variable worth managing, not the marks you carry.

Placements

Every placement figure below comes from one document, the institution's own NIRF filing, which reports three graduating years separately for bachelor's and master's cohorts.

LevelGraduating yearGraduated in minimum timePlacedMedian salaryHigher studies
UG2022-232,225385Rs 6,41,000455
UG2023-242,524513Rs 5,50,000792
UG2024-253,006746Rs 7,17,5682,260
PG2022-23660339Rs 7,50,000321
PG2023-24830750Rs 8,10,00080
PG2024-251,1501,101Rs 8,20,74649

Those two halves point in opposite directions, and conflating them is how the campus gets oversold. The master's record in the NIRF filing is genuinely strong: 1,101 of the 1,150 who finished in 2024-25 were reported placed, at a median of Rs 8,20,746, with only 49 going on to further study. The bachelor's record for the same year reports 746 placements against 3,006 finishers and 2,260 students moving into higher study, which is an ordinary undergraduate cohort mostly choosing a master's degree rather than a weak one, but it is not a three-quarters placement rate and should not be quoted as one. The undergraduate median also swings by more than a lakh between consecutive years, so no single year of it is a reliable guide.

A Centre for Employability and Corporate Relations sits behind those numbers. Its student placement record names individual 2024-25 offers photograph by photograph, grouped by employer, with Accenture, Deloitte and Arcesium among them. The recruiter list sits on the placement cell's own page as a wall of logos carrying no text at all, and between the two pages the institution states no count of companies visiting in a year, no total offer count and no highest package.

Seat Matrix

Sanctioned intake is set by the institution and reported year by year, and it has been climbing fast.

Level2024-252023-242022-23
UG, 3-year programmes3,9303,7002,900
PG, 2-year programmes1,3601,150Not reported

Undergraduate intake climbed from 2,900 to 3,930 in two years, and the same filing shows 3,007 students actually admitted against that sanctioned 2,900 in 2022-23, so the approved number reads as a planning figure rather than a hard ceiling. No category-wise break-up exists to consult. Because no state counselling authority allots these seats, nobody publishes an SC, ST, OBC or EWS matrix against the institution's name, and reservation runs through its own policy instead. Intake is filed only as a level-wide total, so how many places a BBA or an M.Sc. Forensic Science actually carries is not a public figure, and the admissions office is the only route to it.

Rankings

Rank 34 and an overall 62.29 in the NIRF 2025 college ranking come out of an unusually lopsided scoresheet: on one parameter this is a top-quartile institution, on another it barely registers.

NIRF 2025, College categoryScore
Overall62.29
Teaching, Learning and Resources77.87
Research and Professional Practice34.73
Graduation Outcomes68.93
Outreach and Inclusivity70.93
Perception16.05

The 77.87 on teaching, learning and resources is the strongest line and reads directly off the staffing, spending and student numbers the institution files. Perception at 16.05 is the weakest by a wide margin, and it is not simply a Delhi-versus-Bengaluru effect: in the same table Gargi College one rank above scores 44.42 there, but Dyal Singh College two ranks below scores 17.36, barely clear of this one. Research at 34.73 is the second soft spot, and both of those neighbours beat it, at 46.55 and 56.31.

The trajectory is the part worth weighing. Its own milestones page records a NIRF 2024 placing of 60th, so the institution moved from 60th to 34th in a single cycle. Karnataka barely features on that list otherwise. Three more institutions from the state reach the top 100 of the college table, M S Ramaiah College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Bengaluru at 67 on 57.49, St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru at 73 on 57.17 and St. Joseph's College of Commerce, Bengaluru at 98 on 54.47, and none of the three comes within thirty places of it.

Departments

Teaching is organised into six schools, two institutes and a research centre, and the split shows up in the catalogue rather than only on the org chart. The programme finder sorts every degree under the School of Commerce, Accounting and Finance, the School of Business and Management, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Biological and Forensic Sciences, the School of Computational and Physical Sciences and the School of Law, with the Institute of Management holding the MBA family and the Institute of Technology holding the MCA, the M.Sc. Data Science and the M.Sc. Cyber Security.

Underneath those sit the teaching departments: Commerce, Economics, Professional Accounting Finance, Management, Professional Management Studies, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Life Science, Forensic Science, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences and Languages, Media Studies and English. Commerce and computing carry the longest programme lists between them, in both cases through named specialisations rather than one broad degree. Forensic science is the outlier worth noticing: a small department by library holdings, yet it carries five undergraduate combinations, pairing forensic science with biochemistry, biotechnology, computer science or criminology, and two master's degrees of its own in forensic science and in digital forensics and information security.

Facilities & Infrastructure

Nothing else on this estate is documented the way the library is. Its collections page itemises 95,496 books across 88,495 titles, 4,305 reference books, a book bank and SC/ST book cell of 4,884 volumes, 103 journals, 15 newspapers and more than 12,539 e-journals and database titles, with seating for 1,018 readers, 134 workstations and 12 library staff, open from 8 am to 8 pm. The department-wise break-up on the same page shows where the money went: management holds 22,761 copies and computer science 11,161, while forensic science holds 360 copies across 344 titles at a cost per title higher than any other department's.

Disability access is where the NIRF submission hedges. Lifts or ramps and specially designed toilets are both answered as covering more than 80% of the buildings rather than all of them, and the blocks making up the remainder are never identified. One answer on that form carries no qualifier: walking aids, wheelchairs and help moving between buildings.

The New Airport Road campus is the pending half of the estate. The institution says it will be fully functional from the upcoming academic year, with a central library, a 1,200-seater auditorium, 12 seminar halls, 100 classrooms, football and basketball courts, and teaching laboratories named for fintech, marketing, HR analytics, design thinking and leadership. Which programmes move there is not stated, so anyone weighing a daily commute should settle that before accepting a place: the two sites sit on different roads out of north Bengaluru.

Hostel

Residential capacity here is mostly not owned by the institution, and that is the single most important thing an outstation applicant needs to understand. Its hostel page lists exactly one hostel it manages itself, St. Mary's Study House for women at K. Narayanapura. Everything else is an associated hostel, run either by a religious congregation or by a private accommodation operator, with wardens and email addresses that are not university addresses.

Every hostel for men falls into that associated category: St. Joseph's, St. Chavara, St Antony's, St. Thomas, St. Francis and Mary Jones around K. Narayanapura and Kothanur, and St Michael at the New Airport Road campus in Bagalur. Women have a longer list, among them Navajyothi Study House, Ave Maria, Mother Mary, Pallotti Study House, St. Ann's Study House Prajyothi, Holy Cross Institute, Adrian Nivas and St Catherine at the new campus. Around half the entries on that page carry a fully occupied marker, St. Mary's included, so a bed is the binding constraint rather than the admission letter, and the warden has to be approached directly. No tariff is published for any of them, university-run or associated, which means the accommodation cost has to be established hostel by hostel before the year can be budgeted.

Faculty

The institution publishes no faculty headcount, but its NIRF 2026 submission lists teaching staff one by one and the list ends at serial number 751. Each row carries a name, a designation, a qualification, months of experience, a joining date, a leaving date where there is one, and whether the appointment is regular or adhoc. A doctorate is the qualification on more than half those rows, NET is the next most common entry, and CA, LLM and MBA appear through the commerce, law and management rows.

The dates are the more revealing columns. Most entries were hired in 2022, 2023 or 2024, and the tail reaching back before 2019 is thin, which is what a staff body looks like when sanctioned undergraduate intake has gone from 2,900 to 3,930 over the same window. Departures are far rarer than that hiring rate and cluster hard: nearly every leaving date in the file falls in the last three months of 2024, and adhoc or contractual appointments account for most of them. An incoming student meets a mostly regular, mostly recently hired teaching body, with a thinner adhoc layer that turns over on its own cycle.

Notable Alumni

Kristu Jayanti runs an alumni network and a Jayantian Alumni Entrepreneurs Forum, and neither names an individual graduate against an achievement that can be checked outside the institution. Its own milestones page records a 2011 visit by Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, which is a guest entry rather than an alumni one, and the two get merged on third-party profiles. Nothing on the institution's own domain supports a named alumni list.

News & Articles

The 2025-26 entry on the institution's own milestones page is dominated by the change of status. Alongside it that page records the India Today-MDRA Best Colleges 2025 survey placing the institution first among emerging colleges in arts, science and commerce and second in social work, eighth among colleges with the best placement record in commerce, seventh in BBA and third city-wise in Bengaluru. The Week and Hansa Research 2025 survey is recorded on the same page at 18th nationally in commerce, 18th in science and 21st in arts.

Read further down and that same milestones page is mostly a launch log. New degrees go in almost every year of the 2020s: BA Performing Arts and BA Visual Communication in 2020, MA Kannada and M.Sc Clinical Psychology in 2021, M.Sc Forensic Science and B.Sc Data Science in 2022, then a block of nine at once in 2024-25, among them BBA International Business, BCA Cyber Security, B.Com Investment Banking and MBA International Business.

The events calendar on the front page keeps the same pace. The Department of Commerce is running its 11th International Conference on Green Growth with Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance on September 24 and 25, 2026, and a two-day international conference on smart technology and digital business follows on October 29 and 30, 2026, with the news feed alongside them carrying departmental conferences, guest lectures and soft-skills sessions week by week.

College Compare

Two comparisons decide most applications here, and the ranking table can settle only one of them.

The first is against the private universities a Bengaluru shortlist actually contains, and no like-for-like ranking exists to make it with. Those institutions are assessed in NIRF's university category, on a scoresheet built for research output and doctoral scale, while this one was assessed as a college. Setting a college rank against a university rank is meaningless arithmetic. Until the institution files in the university category under its new status, a shortlist has to be decided on four things it does publish: the per-programme fee, the sanctioned intake, the NIRF placement filing and the hostel position, set against the same four at each rival.

The second is against the Delhi colleges it now sits among, and that is where the sheet is least flattering. On the same table, Gargi College at 33 and Dyal Singh College at 36 bracket it on overall score while scoring 46.55 and 56.31 on research against this institution's 34.73. What Kristu Jayanti does better than either is teaching, learning and resources, at 77.87 against 66.67 and 68.05. So the trade is a better-resourced teaching operation charging a private fee to a largely outstation intake, against a state-funded college with a stronger research base and, in Gargi's case at 44.42 on perception, far wider recognition.

Contact & Location

The campus is at K. Narayanapura, Kothanur Post, Bengaluru 560077, in the north of the city. The switchboard is 080-68737777, the fax 080-68737799, and general correspondence goes to info@kristujayanti.com, all three carried in the footer of the institution's home page. The contact page then splits the rest by function, which saves a transfer: admission@kristujayanti.com for applications, feeadmin@kristujayanti.com for fee queries, career@kristujayanti.com for placement and office@kristujayanti.com for administration. During an open cycle the admissions page adds two mobile numbers, 94494 51111 and 96866 97440, beside that same switchboard line.
