L.m.college Of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad 228

Admission to L.M. College of Pharmacy in Ahmedabad runs on a GUJCET merit list for most of its aided seats and on an all-India list for a small remainder, and the closing number is different in each. The state committee's institute-wise sheet records the general category closing at merit number 263 on the GUJCET list, with the same course closing separately under a NEET quota and under a JEE (Main) quota, each numbered in its own block. The 2025 pharmacy ranking run by the education ministry placed the college 45th nationally.

Overview

L.M. College of Pharmacy sits at Navrangpura in central Ahmedabad, opposite Gujarat University, and its initials belong to a person: Lallubhai Motilal College of Pharmacy is the name printed on its own contact block. The Ahmedabad Education Society founded it in 1947 and still runs it, a trust set up in 1935 that its NAAC self-study report describes as managing over 25 institutions, with Ahmedabad University and CEPT University under the same auspices. That report also claims the college was the first fully integrated pharmacy institute in the country, a claim no external body certifies.

Its status is grant-in-aid rather than private, which puts the diploma and undergraduate seats in the government and aided pool at state counselling and takes the pricing of those seats out of the college's hands. Since the 2024-25 batch it has also been academically autonomous, with a revised syllabus and course structure applying from that intake onwards while earlier students continue on the old scheme. Degrees are still awarded by Gujarat Technological University, and the college publishes an A grade from NAAC on its front page.

Courses & Fees

Five programmes run here, and they split cleanly into two funding halves. D.Pharm and B.Pharm are the grant-in-aid side; M.Pharm, Pharm.D and Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) are self-financed and priced accordingly.

ProgrammeDurationEntrance routeApproved intakePublished annual fee
D.Pharm2 yearsGUJCET or NEET or JEE (Main), ACPC counselling120Rs 1,100 for a boy, nil for a girl, 2026-27
B.Pharm4 yearsGUJCET or NEET or JEE (Main), ACPC counselling90Rs 2,100 for a boy, nil for a girl, 2026-27

Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)3 yearsGujarat Technological University10Rs 1,83,750 for 2024-25

Those first two rows are not on the college website at all, and a candidate who looks there will conclude the number is unpublished. The B.Pharm and D.Pharm pages each carry a link labelled as the fee structure, and each one points outward to the state admission committee rather than to a document of the college's own. The committee prints the figure in the last column of its seat matrix, and it is small: tuition for 2026-27 is Rs 2,100 a year on the degree course and Rs 1,100 on the diploma for a boy, and zero on both for a girl, the identical rate that sheet gives every government and grant-in-aid pharmacy institute in Gujarat.

The self-financed courses are priced openly, though not currently. M.Pharm cost Rs 1,78,500 for 2023-24, and the college states that the following year's structure would be declared by the Fee Regulatory Committee, a line that has still not been replaced with a number. Pharm.D and Pharm.D (PB) were 1.75 lakh for 2023-24 and Rs 1,83,750 for 2024-25 under a GTU circular, the same amounts applying to the post baccalaureate route. A candidate pricing the coming session is working from a figure two years old and should treat it as a floor.

Admissions

No seat here is decided inside the building. The college hands each programme to a different authority and names no entrance test of its own: D.Pharm, B.Pharm and M.Pharm admissions are conducted by the state Admission Committee for Professional Courses, and Pharm.D admissions by Gujarat Technological University.

For the diploma and undergraduate courses, merit comes from equal weightage of the board theory percentile in physics, chemistry and mathematics or biology and the percentile scored in GUJCET, with 5% of the aided intake set aside for candidates ranked instead on NEET or JEE (Main) by the National Testing Agency. Registration is entirely online, no document goes to the college in person, and the committee carries the process from spring registration through to allotment.

The postgraduate side carries a detail most candidates never find. The college's own AICTE disclosure records that it surrenders the management quota for all programmes of M.Pharm and Pharm.D to the admission authorities, and that management quota does not apply at all to the grant-in-aid D.Pharm and B.Pharm programmes. No management quota exists at any level here.

The master's seats fill without one. When the state committee published its vacancy list for government and aided colleges after the second M.Pharm round of the current cycle, this college appeared nowhere on it; the only aided or government pharmacy college still carrying empty specialisation seats was B. K. Mody Government Pharmacy College in Rajkot.

Cutoff

The state committee publishes a first and last admitted rank for every category at every college once the rounds close. These are the current-cycle figures for the degree pharmacy seats at Navrangpura, all on the GUJCET quota within the grant-in-aid pool.

CategoryFirst admitted merit numberLast admitted merit number
General128263
EWS267334
SEBC469756
Scheduled Caste7221013
Scheduled Tribe38605814
General, persons with disability86208620

Reserved-category candidates should read the Scheduled Tribe row before the SEBC one. Scheduled Tribe seats closed at 5814 while SEBC seats closed at 756, so how far the concession stretches at this college depends heavily on which category you hold. The same sheet records closures under the NEET quota and one JEE (Main) closure for this course, each numbered in its own block rather than on the GUJCET scale, so those figures cannot be read against the ranks above.

The diploma at this address is a wholly different queue. D.Pharm here opened at 4461 and closed at 50267 on the general GUJCET list, while the degree course above it ran from 128 to 263, so the two programmes at one address draw from opposite ends of the same merit list.

Placements

Higher study, not a job, is where the B.Pharm class here mostly goes. The college's own return for 2024-25 puts 67 of its 97 on-time graduates into further study and 22 into employment, at a median salary of Rs 2,50,000. The two B.Pharm years before it broke the same way, 71 of 102 and 76 of 108 into higher study, so this is the shape of the course and not a bad year.

Cohort graduating 2024-25Graduated in minimum timePlacedMedian salaryWent to higher studies
B.Pharm9722Rs 2,50,00067
M.Pharm6153Rs 3,50,0008
Pharm.D3627Rs 3,50,0009

The master's median sits a lakh above the bachelor's on more than twice the placement rate, and the fee table is the other half of that picture: the four-year aided degree that mostly leads to more study costs a boy Rs 2,100 a year, and the two-year master's that pays is self-financed at Rs 1,78,500. Pharm.D reaches that same median off six years rather than four plus two. The Pharm.D (PB) route reported no graduates, no placements and no salary in the same return.

Seat Matrix

The council's approval letter and the committee's counselling sheet count the same seats from two directions, and they agree on the diploma and undergraduate numbers.

CoursePCI-approved intake, 2025-26Route the seats are filled through

B.Pharm90State counselling, GUJCET home state matrix

Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)10Gujarat Technological University

One number does not line up, and a candidate comparing documents should know which is which. The council approves 15 seats in each of the five M.Pharm specialisations, while the college's own ranking return files a sanctioned two-year postgraduate intake of 60 for 2024-25. The two documents cover different years, and neither of them says the master's intake changed.

Rankings

The pharmacy table is where this college moved, and the parameter that moved it is not the one a prospectus would pick. It scored 53.66 for 45th place in 2025, on 67.63 for teaching, 38.94 for research, 62.00 for graduation outcomes, 54.62 for outreach and 38.27 for perception. A year earlier it sat 52nd on 50.02, with research at 24.74 and perception at 49.73. Research is what carried it up seven places; perception was the one parameter that lost ground, and it lost a good deal of it.

The research behind that jump is itemised in the college's own return: 14 patents published and 18 granted in calendar 2024, against 7 and 9 the year before, on 8 sponsored projects worth Rs 67,14,660 and 17 consultancy assignments for 15 client organisations. Doctoral enrolment stood at 16 full time and 43 part time.

Departments

Five departments teach here, and the college sets out what each one works on. Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology handles formulation development and drug delivery; Pharmaceutical Chemistry covers medicinal chemistry, synthesis and molecular modelling; Quality Assurance works on pharmacopoeial and analytical methods including bio-equivalence and forensic analysis; Pharmacology runs animal and cell-line work on oncology, diabetes, obesity, stroke, epilepsy and cardiovascular disease; and Pharmacognosy isolates bioactive phytoconstituents and standardises herbal raw materials.

Those five are also the five M.Pharm specialisations the council approves, so the department a postgraduate applicant picks at counselling is the department that will supervise the dissertation.

Facilities & Infrastructure

Two permissions can sit on a CPCSEA registration, and this college holds both. Its animal house is registered under number 228/PO/Re/S/2000/CPCSEA, dated 28 October 2016, for experimentation and for the breeding of experimental animals, with instruction, quarantine, store, surgical, breeding, stock and experimental sections laid out to the committee's guidelines, an institutional ethics committee that includes a CPCSEA nominee, and an annual inspection of the facility by that nominee. Breeding rights are the half that decides whether a long pharmacology protocol runs on colonies raised here or on animals bought in for each experiment.

The medicinal plant garden holds about 90 varieties across 250 square metres, and the campus keeps 58 fire extinguishers of three types, with the sports complex and auditoria shared from the Ahmedabad Education Society campus around it. The library is automated on INFLIBNET's SOUL software with barcoded stock and subscriptions to Bentham, SciFinder and Scopus, and a centralised museum of marketed dosage forms sits on the ground floor beside a separate trophy room. Behind the main building stands the newest addition, a block housing the Ramanbhai Patel Postgraduate Centre and the AIC-LMCP Foundation, an Atal Incubation Centre backed by Niti Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission and incorporated as a company in September 2017.

Hostel

Four documents describe the hostel position here and they split two against two, which is worth settling before a candidate from another city accepts a seat. The college's infrastructure page describes separate boys' and girls' hostels near the college with mess facilities and daily monitoring by hostel supervisors. Its NAAC self-study report names only the L. T. Munshaw Hostel for girls and records the boys' hostel as under renovation, with shared facilities provided by the parent society. The state committee's institute profile for the current cycle records no boys' hostel and no girls' hostel against this college, with only a mess marked as available.

Only one of the four counts beds. The AICTE mandatory disclosure lists hostel facilities as available with 60 places for boys and 296 for girls, a ratio pointed the same way as the student body: the six-year Pharm.D programme carried 149 women against 51 men in the ranking return. Ask the office what is open for the coming session rather than trusting any single one of the four.

Faculty

Two of the longest-serving teachers here left on the same day. The college's 2026 ranking return records that Sunita Goswami, an associate professor who joined on 02-11-1987 with 490 months of experience, and Mamta Shah, a professor who joined on 16-07-1990 with 454 months, both ceased working with the institution on 31-07-2025. The principal, Mahesh T. Chhabria, joined on 19-11-1990 and continues in post.

That return names 51 teachers individually, with designation, qualification, joining date and, where they have gone, a leaving date, which is more useful than a headcount because it shows who is still there. An older AICTE disclosure splits the strength by programme instead. That disclosure records 22 permanent faculty against B.Pharm at a faculty to student ratio of 17.2, 14 against M.Pharm at 6.2, 14 against Pharm.D at 9.3 and 9 against D.Pharm at 19.8, counts that predate the departures above and should be read as the older picture.

The college's faculty directory lists every teacher by department with designation and years of experience, and its mandatory disclosure links each of them to a profile on the national Vidwan researcher database, so an applicant can read a prospective supervisor's publication record before choosing a specialisation.

Notable Alumni

Two large pharmaceutical companies headquartered in Gujarat have alumni of this college at the top, and both have put money back into the building. The NAAC self-study report records that the Ramanbhai Patel Postgraduate Centre was established through Rs 8.5 crores donated by Pankajbhai Patel, chairman of Cadila Healthcare and an alumnus, and that Hasmukhbhai Chudgar, founder of Intas Pharmaceuticals, is also an alumnus, his company having committed Rs 2.4 crores for new facilities.

A third name appears in the college's own words. Ketanbhai R. Patel, chairman and managing director of Troikaa Pharmaceuticals, records completing his M.Pharm here in 1980 in a testimonial the college publishes on its front page. The alumni body, the LMCP Alumni Association and Research Society, has worked since 1997 and channels alumni money into the book bank, endowment funds and placement support.
