KLE College Of Pharmacy, Belgaum

Belagavi, Karnataka Est. 1968 Official site Updated
NIRF Pharmacy
#50

Nothing about getting into this Belagavi college runs through a state counselling hall. KAHER writes its own paper for B.Pharm and Pharm.D, and the 2026-27 entrance calendar set that paper for Sunday, 10 May 2026, online and proctored, with applications closing on 30 April. The paper is worth reading before you plan for it: of its 100 multiple-choice questions, 60 are on botany and zoology. And what happens after four years is not what a placement brochure would lead with: in the college's 2026 ranking submission, 102 students finished the four-year degree in 2024-25, 21 took a job and 72 went on to further study.

Overview

Three constituent units of KAHER carry the KLE pharmacy name, and only one of them is this one. The university's Master of Pharmacy notification for 2026-27 lists all three side by side with separate telephone numbers and separate websites: Belagavi on 0831-2471399 at klepharm.edu, Hubballi on 0836-2373174, Bengaluru on 080-23325611. A fee or a seat count found under "KLE College of Pharmacy" with no city attached to it belongs to one of the three, and it is unusable until you know which.

Teaching here began with the diploma. The college's own account of itself dates its founding to 1968 in the environs of JN Medical College, Belgaum, with Diploma in Pharmacy first, B.Pharm added in 1975, M.Pharm in 1988, doctoral programmes in 2000, an M.Sc in clinical pharmacy in 2013 and Pharm.D last, in 2014. The same page dates the change that matters most to an applicant to 2009, when the college became a constituent unit of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research. Since then the entrance paper, the fee notifications and the admission portal have been the university's, and it is the university's registrar who signs them.

Two accreditations appear on the college masthead and they do not belong to the same body, which is worth untangling before you quote either at an interview. The college's mandatory disclosure of NIRF and accreditations files them separately: the NAAC A+ of the third cycle is labelled there as KAHER's, the parent university's, while the accreditation held by the college itself is the NBA letter dated 03-02-2020, which covers the UG pharmacy programme after an on-site evaluation on 08th to 09th November, 2019 and runs upto 30-06-2025. Read the second for what it says: its stated validity has now passed, so ask the college office whether the next cycle has been awarded rather than assuming the badge on the banner is current.

Courses & Fees

Four pharmacy qualifications are taught here, and they do not share an admission door. The diploma, the bachelor's, the six-year Pharm.D and the master's each reach the college by a different route, which the next section sets out.

Alongside those, the college's course menu also carries doctoral programmes, an M.Sc in Clinical Research and an M.Sc in Cosmetic Science.

Now the money. KAHER's most recent machine-readable fee notification is its eligibility, duration and fee structure for academic programs 2024-2025, which prices every pharmacy course year by year and campus by campus. Take these as the last published figures you can check for yourself rather than as this session's rate.

Programme, Belagavi campusAnnual tuition published for 2024-2025
D.PharmRs 78,000 in year one, Rs 75,500 in year two
B.PharmRs 1,53,000 in year one, then Rs 1,46,500 in each of years two to four
Pharm.DRs 2,15,000 in year one, then Rs 2,07,500 in each of years two to six

The same sheet is where the three-campus point stops being abstract and starts costing money.

CampusB.Pharm, year onePharm.D, year oneD.Pharm, year one
BelagaviRs 1,53,000Rs 2,15,000Rs 78,000
HubballiRs 1,48,000Rs 1,79,000Rs 95,000
BengaluruRs 1,64,500Rs 2,24,500Rs 60,000

Compare down the columns rather than along the rows and the pricing logic inverts between the degrees and the diploma. Hubballi is the cheapest campus for both B.Pharm and Pharm.D but the dearest for D.Pharm; Bengaluru is the exact reverse; Belagavi sits in the middle on all three. There is no single KLE pharmacy fee, and a figure copied off a listing site with no campus attached to it is unusable.

The master's is priced by specialisation rather than by one postgraduate rate. KAHER's M.Pharm fee sheet for 2023-24 splits the Belagavi branches into two bands.

M.Pharm specialisation, BelagaviYear oneYear two
PharmaceuticsRs 1,58,000Rs 1,52,500
PharmacologyRs 1,58,000Rs 1,52,500
Pharmacy PracticeRs 1,58,000Rs 1,52,500
Quality AssuranceRs 1,58,000Rs 1,52,500
Pharmaceutical ChemistryRs 1,33,000Rs 1,27,500
PharmacognosyRs 1,33,000Rs 1,27,500

Three cautions about all of the above. Every sheet carries the same footnote, that examination fees, convocation fees and consumables are billed on top of the tuition shown. The rates are annual, which makes the six-year Pharm.D by a long way the largest total commitment on the page even though its yearly rate is not the highest figure printed there. And KAHER has since republished the pharmacy rates for the current session on its fee structure page for pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy and allied health courses, where the sheet filed under "Pharmacy UG/PG" is a scanned image carrying no extractable text, so open it and read the figures off it yourself before you budget.

The teaching year has rules of its own, and they are stricter than most applicants expect. The B.Pharm regulations KAHER publishes for the programme require at least 80% attendance in each course, with theory and practical counted separately, and set each semester at not less than 100 working days. Instruction and examination are in English.

Admissions

Everything undergraduate turns on one test. The entrance test calendar puts B.Pharm and Pharm.D at all three pharmacy campuses into the online proctored block, with applications closing on Thursday, 30 April 2026, a compulsory mock test on Wednesday, 6 May and the paper itself on Sunday, 10 May from 11:00 to 13:00.

What that paper contains should shape how you prepare, because it does not follow the eligibility rule. The examination instructions set the test at 100 multiple-choice questions in English over two hours, drawn from the 10+2 syllabus and split 15 physics, 15 chemistry, 60 biology across botany and zoology, and 10 aptitude. There is no negative marking, so an unattempted question and a wrong one cost exactly the same. A candidate who took mathematics rather than biology at pre-university remains eligible for B.Pharm and will still sit a paper that is more than half botany and zoology.

Eligibility is set course by course. For B.Pharm the college's course record asks for a two-year Karnataka PUC or an equivalent with not less than 45%, physics and chemistry compulsory, plus one of mathematics, biology, computer science, biotechnology or a technical vocational subject, with 5% relaxation for reserved-category candidates. A candidate below that mark at 10+2 who has since finished a B.Sc with chemistry and two of physics, mathematics, microbiology, botany, zoology, biotechnology, computer science or electronics qualifies at 40% in aggregate. D.Pharm holders with at least 50% enter directly at the third semester, against places created at 10% over and above the sanctioned intake rather than out of the first-year seats, and the same record adds a catch worth planning for: a lateral entrant carries the first semester's computer science paper on top of the third semester's own subjects. For Pharm.D the course record accepts that same physics-and-chemistry pairing with either mathematics or biology, or in place of it a completed D.Pharm from a PCI-approved institution.

The master's works differently, and this is where applicants most often carry a wrong assumption. There is no entrance test for it. KAHER's admission notification for Master of Pharmacy 2026-27 selects on merit in the qualifying examination, reserving only the right to add a test or an interview if required, and it sends applicants to the college office for the seat matrix and the fee structure. The college's M.Pharm record sets the bar at a B.Pharm from a PCI-approved institution with not less than 55% aggregated across all four years, again with 5% relaxation for reserved categories, and attaches two conditions people miss: registration with a State Pharmacy Council within one month of admission, failing which the admission is cancelled, and a migration certificate from the university that awarded the B.Pharm.

The diploma has no test either. The same entrance calendar places Diploma in Pharmacy at Belagavi, Hubballi and Bengaluru outside the online proctored block, under admission by inter se merit and interview, and the D.Pharm notification confirms selection on merit in the qualifying examination, with an online application fee of Rs 1,500 including GST that is not refunded under any circumstance.

After the result, the paperwork is a university portal rather than a college counter. KAHER's results notice tells successful candidates to log in with their application credentials, switch the institute from the university to the college their admit card was issued for, complete the admission form, and then carry the documents to the institute office.

Cutoff

No closing rank exists for this college, because nobody outside KAHER ranks its applicants. The entrance calendar routes pharmacy at Belagavi through the university's own online proctored test and keeps the government counselling portals it names, the Karnataka Examinations Authority and the Medical Counselling Committee, for the medical and dental seats elsewhere in the group. KAHER then sets the paper, ranks the candidates and completes admission through its own portal, as the results notice describes. The calendar, the instruction sheet and the results notice are the three documents this cycle produced, and not one of them carries a score band, a category-wise mark or a last-admitted position. Any number offered to you as this college's cut-off is therefore somebody's estimate.

What you can plan against is the arithmetic of the paper. Since the examination instructions award one mark for a correct answer and deduct nothing for a wrong one, the ranking runs on raw correct answers out of 100, and leaving a question blank can only cost you. For the master's there is no test to score at all, so the qualifying examination is the entire merit list, which is why the 55% aggregate the college sets for M.Pharm is better treated as a floor than as a target.

Placements

The postgraduate programmes are what get placed here, and the bachelor's mostly does not. The college files these numbers annually with the ranking framework and publishes both returns itself, the 2025 submission and the 2026 submission that carries the 2024-25 cohort, so four consecutive years can be read together.

Four-year undergraduate cohortGraduated in minimum timePlacedMedian salaryWent to higher study
2021-229633Rs 2,20,00061
2022-239011Rs 1,80,00051
2023-248522Rs 2,40,00062
2024-2510221Rs 3,00,00072
Both rows above are as filed by the college, in the 2025 ranking submission and, for the last cohort, in the 2026 one.

Read the last two columns against each other rather than the middle one on its own. The higher-study column beats the placement column in all four rows, and it widens: the 2024-25 line sends 72 graduates on to a further qualification while 21 take a job. For a pharmacy degree that is a description of the profession as much as of the college, since an M.Pharm or a Pharm.D is what opens the regulatory, clinical and formulation roles a fresh B.Pharm cannot reach, but it does mean a placement percentage quoted for this college is being computed on a minority of its leavers. The placement count has not trended either, it has bounced, 33 then 11 then 22 then 21, so a single year's placement rate lifted from any source will mislead in one direction or the other. The median is the line that has moved one way: Rs 1,80,000 for the 2022-23 cohort, Rs 3,00,000 for the 2024-25 one.

The master's cohorts are the ones employers actually take. The 2026 return records 50 of the 68 who finished the two-year programme in 2024-25 placed, against 52 of 67 the year before, with the median holding at Rs 3,00,000 across both. The six-year Pharm.D swung hard the other way and then back: 9 of 28 placed in 2023-24, then 19 of 28 in 2024-25 at a median of Rs 3,20,000. If you are weighing the Pharm.D on placement evidence, one year of it will tell you almost nothing.

We could not find a recruiter list, a company-wise placement record or a training and placement report anywhere on the college's own site, and its pages carry no placement cell of their own, so the ranking returns above are the only placement evidence here that comes from the institution itself.

Seat Matrix

Sanctioned intake here is not one number, and the Pharmacy Council of India decision letter for 2026-2027 is where the whole of it is set down, course by course, including the specialisation split that the university's own admission notification tells applicants to ask the college office for.

Course, approved for 2026-2027PCI-approved intake
D.Pharm120
B.Pharm100
Pharm.D30
Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)10
M.Pharm, Pharmaceutics15

M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Chemistry15
M.Pharm, Pharmacognosy15
M.Pharm, Pharmacy Practice15
M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance15
M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Analysis10

Two things follow from that table. The diploma, not the degree, is the largest single intake on the list, at 120 against B.Pharm's 100, which is the opposite of the shape most applicants assume for a college ranked in the pharmacy table. And the postgraduate total is split seven ways, with pharmaceutical analysis the narrowest door at 10 seats against 15 for each of the other six, so the specialisation you name on the form governs the length of the queue in front of you far more than the headline M.Pharm number does.

Where that intake grew is in the ranking returns. Approved undergraduate seats went from 90 to 100 for 2022-23 and have stayed there, the six-year programme has been fixed at 30 for every year the 2026 return reaches back to, and the two-year postgraduate intake rose from 83 for 2023-24 to 100 for 2024-25.

Who fills those seats is in the same return, and the roll is more local than the words "all India" in the entrance test's name suggest.

Undergraduate, four-year434380540
Postgraduate, two-year144108360

The six-year programme is the outlier: 53 of its 184 students come from other states and one from outside India, close to three in ten, against 54 out of 434 on the undergraduate rolls, or roughly one in eight. Fee support is the line that has moved against applicants over the same period. The 2025 return records 159 undergraduates receiving full tuition fee reimbursement from state and central government funds; the 2026 return records 39.

Rankings

Fiftieth place, on 52.86, is where the Ministry of Education's 2025 pharmacy table leaves this college. Averaging five parameters into one figure hides how unevenly it earned that score.

NIRF 2025 pharmacy parameterScore
Teaching, Learning and Resources70.47
Research and Professional Practice27.87
Graduation Outcomes64.71
Outreach and Inclusivity58.89
Perception45.27

Research is what holds the rank down, and the college's own returns show both the shortfall and a recovery the 2025 score could not yet reflect. The 2025 return reported no sponsored research projects and no funding agencies at all in 2023-24, against a single project worth Rs 2,00,000 the year before. The 2026 return reports 10 sponsored projects worth Rs 37,09,000 in 2024-25, and 21 patents published and 13 granted in calendar 2024 against 9 published in 2022. Consultancy has been the steadier earner throughout, at 105 projects worth Rs 60,44,801 in 2023-24 and 89 worth Rs 46,12,000 in 2024-25. If research exposure is why you are choosing this college, ask which of those ten projects sits in the department you would join, because the grant income is new and concentrated rather than long established.

One thing to check for yourself: the college's About page still describes its ranking position as 37th in 2020 and 22nd in 2018 and 2019. The government table above is the current record, and the college publishes its own NIRF 2026 submission on its mandatory disclosure page, which is where the newer figures used on this page come from.

Departments

Seven teaching departments carry the programmes, and they are named the same way on the faculty roster and in the department menu on the college site: pharmaceutics, pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy and phytochemistry, pharmaceutical quality assurance, pharmacy practice, and pharmaceutical analysis. A Jan Aushadhi unit is listed alongside them, which reflects the generic-medicine outlet attached to the college rather than a teaching subject.

Where a specialisation is taught is not uniform across the KLE pharmacy campuses, and the Master of Pharmacy notification for 2026-27 is the document that says so. Pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacognosy and phytochemistry, and pharmacology are offered at Belagavi, Hubballi and Bengaluru alike. Pharmacy practice and quality assurance are offered at Belagavi only. Pharmaceutical analysis runs at Belagavi and Bengaluru, and the older fee sheet priced that branch at Bengaluru alone, so it is a recent arrival on this campus. If pharmacy practice or quality assurance is the reason you are applying, Belagavi is not one option among three, it is the only one.

Facilities & Infrastructure

Belagavi's library publishes a fuller inventory of itself than anything else on the college site. Its own page puts it on the fourth floor of the building and records a collection of 4,184 titles across 14,316 volumes, seating for 386 readers split between 60 places in the pharmacy reference section, 296 in the central reading room and 30 in the digital library, and opening hours of 09:00 to 20:00 from Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 14:00 on Sunday. Circulation runs on Easylib, the stock is arranged by Dewey Decimal Classification on open access, and the subscriptions reach past the shelves to 70 AICTE-funded international journals on ScienceDirect and to the Micromedex drug database.

Analytical instruments are pooled rather than scattered across departments. The central instrumentation facility lists a Shimadzu UV-1800 spectrophotometer housed in pharmaceutical chemistry, a Shimadzu IR Affinity 1 for infrared spectroscopy, an Agilent Infinity 1220 high performance liquid chromatograph and a Shimadzu DSC-60 differential scanning calorimeter, and its own description puts undergraduate project students on them alongside doctoral scholars rather than reserving them for research staff.

Formulation work has a separate room of its own, which is the part of this campus a pharmaceutics applicant should ask to see. The pilot plant is equipped with a Rimex Mini Press-1 tablet press, a Kalweka VDM 4 SP double cone mixer, an Envisys ETD 12 industrial tray dryer and a Labindia DS 8000 dissolution apparatus, with a 400-litre GMP stability chamber and a VC750 probe sonicator both marked as AICTE MODROB purchases of 2017-18. Spending on equipment across the college moves in steps rather than a line: the 2026 ranking return records Rs 1,13,93,378 of capital spend on new laboratory equipment in 2024-25 and Rs 39,69,921 on the library, after Rs 19,87,736 and Rs 12,46,337 respectively the year before.

Hostel

Accommodation is available to men and women and is billed outside the tuition figures above. KAHER's diploma fee notification for 2024-2025 states that plainly and gives the hostel office directly on 0831-2474886, which is the number to call rather than the college office.

The current pharmacy hostel rates are published, but the hostel fees page for the current academic year files them under "PHARMACY UG/PG Hostel Fees Details" as a scanned notice with no extractable text, and it is the same scan the fee-structure page uses, so no machine-readable version of these rates exists anywhere. Room rent is quoted separately from food, which is paid to the mess vendor by the month, so treat any all-inclusive hostel figure you find elsewhere with suspicion and ask the hostel office for the sheet itself.

Faculty

The public roster runs to 58 numbered rows, 57 of them real people and one placeholder under Jan Aushadhi that still reads "Testing" where a name should be. The 2026 ranking return is the fuller record: 62 entries with designation, qualification, months of experience and joining date, four of them marked as having left between 2024 and 2025. Dr M B Patil is the longest-serving name on it, with 418 months of experience and a joining date of 19-09-1990.

Pharmacy practice is the largest department on the roster and the only one where the Pharm.D appears as a teaching qualification rather than as a degree the college awards, which is what staffing the six-year programme's hospital postings requires. The roster gives qualifications and a contact email for each teacher, though the addresses are a mix of college and personal accounts rather than a uniform institutional set.

Dr Sunil S. Jalalpure is the principal and teaches in pharmacognosy and phytochemistry. The roster also shows how closely the college and the university are staffed together: Prof. M. S. Ganachari appears on it in the pharmacy practice department and signed KAHER's pharmacy admission notification for the previous cycle as registrar, an office now held by Prof. V. M. Pattanshetti, who signed the current Master of Pharmacy notification.

Research supervision is the part of the faculty record with hard numbers attached, and it is where the college has shifted most. The 2026 return puts 39 full-time and 12 part-time scholars on the doctoral rolls, against 35 and 20 in the 2025 return, so the full-time route has grown while the part-time one has shrunk by nearly half. Completions ran 6 full-time in each of 2023-24 and 2024-25, with 7 part-time awards in the later year after none in the earlier one.

Notable Alumni

The college does publish names, though not on the page that carries the heading. Its Distinguished Alumni page shows an attachments block with nothing in it; the mandatory disclosure of registrations and certifications carries the actual distinguished alumni list, 34 names with the post each holds.

Drug regulation in this state is the strand that stands out. The list gives Mr B T Khanapure as Drugs Controller, Karnataka at Bengaluru and Mr Deepak Gaikwad as Deputy Drugs Controller, Karnataka at Belagavi, with Mr Ripan Mehta as a senior drugs control officer and zonal drugs licensing authority in the Kurukshetra zone of FDA Haryana and Mr Sanjeev Garg as State Drugs Controller, Punjab. Industry accounts for most of the rest: Mr Nandan Chandawarkar as joint managing director of FDC Limited in Mumbai, Mr Sudhir Goudar as head of group compliance and auditing for Asia Pacific at Novartis in Bengaluru, Mr Shivaraj Katageri as an associate vice president at Sai Life Sciences in Pune, and Mr M K Umakant at Micro Labs. Others named on it have gone into academia and pharmaceutical work abroad.

The list is undated and gives no graduating year, so treat each designation as the one held when the college compiled it rather than as current. The About page claims an alumni association of over 2000 active members across academics, clinical practice, industry, regulatory services and entrepreneurship; the disclosure list of 34 is the part of that the institution has been willing to name in writing.

Two addresses, and the regulator's file explains which is which. The PCI decision letter records an approved institution address change on 16 Apr 2026, communicated on 13 Apr 2026, moving the college from Nehru Nagar near KLE Hospital to RS No. 9/1 and 9/2 on Airport Road near Shindoli Cross at Basavan Kudachi, Belagavi 591124. Basavan Kudachi is therefore the current campus address on the regulator's record, while the Nehru Nagar masthead the home page still carries is the JNMC campus the college grew up on and the address KAHER's registrar issues notifications from. Confirm which building your programme sits in before you travel, and note that the college publishes its email behind an obfuscation script that a browser resolves and a copy-paste does not, so use the telephone numbers above or the enquiry form on the contact page.
