C.v. Raman Global University, Odisha
C V Raman Global University publishes no tuition figure anywhere on its own website, so the only numbers it has committed to in public are the ones in the data return it files with the National Institutional Ranking Framework. That return records the median annual salary of a placed CGU undergraduate rising from 5,00,000 rupees for the batch that finished in 2021-22 to 6,45,000 rupees two batches later. What the framework then does with that return is harsher: it scores CGU 10.31 for research and professional practice against 77.56 for teaching, learning and resources on the same 100-point scale, and of the hundred engineering institutions NIRF published parameter scores for in 2025, none scores lower on research.
Overview
CGU began in 1997 as C V Raman College of Engineering, a degree-level engineering college run by the C V Raman Group of Institutions, and its own admission prospectus puts the change plainly: the university was established in 2020 under Odisha Act 01 of 2020, and the story of CGU is the story of CVRCE. The engineering college is not a predecessor that was closed and replaced. It was converted, and the campus, the management and the departments carried straight across, which is why several official pages on cgu-odisha.ac.in still use the old CVRCE name.
The campus sits at Bidyanagar, Mahura, Janla, south of Bhubaneswar in Khordha district, and CGU is a state private university rather than a state or central public one. On the recognition side its approvals page publishes a 2(f) recognition, an AICTE approval, recognition as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and a Study in India partnership from the 2020-2021 admission cycle. The conversion is recorded independently of CGU as well: the University Grants Commission's state-wise list of private universities carries C.V.Raman Global University as the single Odisha entry for the year it was notified. The founder, Sanjib Kumar Rout, still serves as President, and CGU's leadership page credits the engineering college with winning the first gold medal for India in the Water Technology category at the WorldSkills competition in Russia.
Where CGU appears nationally is the engineering table, and only the engineering table. It has no NIRF 2025 placement in the university, overall, management or research categories, so a prospective MBA or M.Sc applicant has no national ranking to weigh here at all.
Courses & Fees
CGU is organised as a broad technical university with an engineering core. B.Tech runs across computer science and its specialisations in AI and machine learning, data science, IoT and cyber security, robotics and artificial intelligence, alongside chemical, civil, electrical, electronics and communication, mechanical and marine engineering. Around that core sit B.Sc Agriculture, BBA, BCA, B.Pharm, D.Pharm, BHMCT hotel management, a set of M.Sc programmes that includes one in cloud computing, M.Tech, MBA and doctoral work, all on the admission overview. B.Com, MA English, MCA and a forensic science line running B.Sc to Ph.D appear in the prospectus but not on that page, so neither document on its own is a complete list of what CGU teaches.
Marine Engineering is the outlier worth knowing about, because it is the one branch whose entry rules run on maritime lines rather than university ones: it is also the only branch CGU caps by age. The table below is CGU's own published eligibility bar, programme by programme, from the CGET 2026 prospectus.
| Programme | Minimum eligibility CGU publishes | Published tuition |
|---|---|---|
| B.Tech, 4 years | 10+2 at 60 per cent with physics and mathematics | not published |
| B.Tech Marine Engineering | 60 per cent average in physics, chemistry and mathematics plus 50 per cent in English, age not above 21 as on 31 July 2026 | not published |
| B.Tech lateral entry, 3 years | diploma at 60 per cent, 55 per cent for reserved categories | not published |
| M.Tech | bachelor's in the relevant field at 60 per cent; GATE holders skip the entrance test | not published |
| MBA | three-year bachelor's at 60 per cent, 45 per cent for reserved categories | not published |
| BBA and BHMCT | 10+2 in any stream at 50 per cent | not published |
| BCA and MCA | 10+2 or graduation carrying mathematics, business mathematics or statistics, at 60 per cent | not published |
| B.Sc Agriculture | 10+2 science at 60 per cent with physics, chemistry and mathematics or biology | not published |
| B.Pharm | 10+2 science at 60 per cent with physics, chemistry and biology or mathematics | not published |
| Ph.D | master's at 55 per cent, or a four-year bachelor's at 75 per cent | not published |
The blank fee column is a finding, not an omission on our part. CGU's prospectus routes every fee question to a single web address, cgu-odisha.ac.in/fee-structure, and the body of that page is a heading with nothing under it. The loop closes on itself: CGU's public self-disclosure, the mandatory filing that is supposed to name the document carrying the fee structure for various programs, names the CGET brochure, and the brochure's fee page carries a single line sending the reader back to that same empty web page. Anyone budgeting for CGU has to ask the admissions office directly and get the number in writing.
What the university does publish is the discount side of the fee. Its study loan and scholarship page sets out tuition concessions of 25 per cent, 20 per cent, 15 per cent and 10 per cent against Class 12 and entrance-rank thresholds, a 100 per cent tuition exemption for the girl child of a defence or paramilitary member who lost their life in service and 40 per cent for the girl child of a serving or retired one, and a C V Raman Students' Welfare Trust award of 50,000 rupees a year to 10 B.Tech students of each year picked on merit and family income. Two further schedules sit alongside those, one for B.Sc Forensic Science and B.Pharm keyed to Class 12 marks alone and one for B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture keyed to ICAR and OUAT ranks together with Class 12 marks. Every one of those percentages only turns into rupees once you have the base fee, which is the reason to get it first.
Admissions
The primary door is CGET, the university's own online entrance test, and CGU runs it in phases across the season rather than as a single sitting. The prospectus confirms there is no application or examination fee, that the paper is multiple choice with four options per question, and that a candidate may appear only once, with a warning that CGU may hold the rank and cancel the candidature of anyone appearing more than once.
| CGET 2026 phase | Last date to apply | Test date |
|---|---|---|
| Phase I | 17-04-2026 | 24-04-2026 and 25-04-2026 |
| Phase II | 25-05-2026 | 31-05-2026 and 01-06-2026 |
| Phase III | 30-06-2026 | 05-07-2026 and 06-07-2026 |
On each of those pairs of dates the B.Tech paper runs at 10 AM and the lateral-entry and all other papers at 3 PM, so a candidate sitting two levels is not choosing between them.
CGET is not the only door. The admission overview states that CGU admits to technical and professional courses on scores from its own test, JEE Main, OJEE, CAT, MAT, XAT, PGAT, GATE and ATMA, so a candidate already holding one of those results does not have to sit another paper. CGU publishes that as one undifferentiated list rather than mapping a test to a programme, and the single programme-level rule it does spell out is that GATE-qualified M.Tech applicants skip the entrance step and go straight to document submission and counselling. Confirm your own route with the admissions office before you pay for a test you did not need.
Two practical warnings from the same prospectus are worth repeating, because they are where private-university applicants get burned. CGU states that it has no agent, and that course fees are paid only by demand draft, RTGS, NEFT, UPI or online banking into accounts named in the allotment letter. It also reserves 8 per cent of seats for Scheduled Caste, 12 per cent for Scheduled Tribe, 5 per cent for Green Card, 5 per cent for persons with disability and 3 per cent for ex-servicemen candidates, and the category once entered on the application form cannot be changed afterwards.
Cutoff
No CGET closing rank exists to look up, and that follows from how CGU allots a seat rather than from any reluctance to say. Candidates are ordered on a career percentage and percentile list, seats go out from that list through an online counselling form, and the effective cutoff is wherever the list happens to stop for a branch that year. Nothing fixes it in advance, CGU keeps no archive of it afterwards, and we will not repeat a coaching-portal estimate as though a real table sat behind it.
There is one place where CGU does commit to a published rank threshold, and it is the scholarship schedule rather than the seat allotment. Those bands are the only official numbers on this site that tell an engineering candidate holding a common rank list position where they stand here.
| CRL rank band | Branch group | Class 12 requirement | Tuition concession |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 2 lakh | CSE and allied branches | 80 per cent or above | 25 per cent |
| 2 lakh to 3 lakh | CSE and allied branches | 80 per cent or above | 15 per cent |
| Up to 3 lakh | Core branches | 80 per cent or above | 20 per cent |
| 3 lakh to 4 lakh | Core branches | 70 per cent or above | 10 per cent |
Core branches here means electrical, electronics and communication, mechanical, civil and chemical engineering. Both branch groups carry a rank-free alternative on the same schedule, 20 per cent off tuition for 90 per cent or above in Class 12, so a strong board result reaches the discount that the core group's top rank band pays. CGU writes CRL without naming the exam behind it, so confirm with the admissions office which rank card it will accept before you count on the band. A rank past the last band is no bar to admission, since CGET admits off its own list.
Placements
CGU names the students it places on its own placement page, which is what makes its ranking return worth reading rather than taking on trust: the two can be held against each other, and the return is the only place the medians appear. Across three graduating batches the placed proportion has stayed high while the median has moved, with the sharpest jump in the most recent year on file.
| Undergraduate four-year programmes | 2021-22 | 2022-23 | 2023-24 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Graduating in minimum stipulated time | 1037 | 929 | 1158 |
| Students placed | 968 | 857 | 1062 |
| Median annual salary of placed graduates, rupees | 5,00,000 | 5,20,000 | 6,45,000 |
| Selected for higher studies | 69 | 72 | 88 |
The postgraduate side is smaller and pays less. For its most recent PG batch on file the same return records 129 students graduating on time, 123 placed and a median of 4,85,000 rupees, up from 3,60,000 two batches earlier. Anyone weighing an M.Tech or an MBA here against taking a job should read those two medians side by side, because the postgraduate figure has trailed the undergraduate one throughout.
CGU is unusually open about who was hired. Its placement page publishes batch-by-batch lists naming each placed student, their registration number, branch and recruiting company, covering the 2017-2021 through 2024-2025 batches and the MBA years separately, with recruiters including Cognizant, Cisco, BNP Paribas India Solutions, Tech Mahindra BPS, Asahi Glass and Mitsubishi Chemicals. That is a granular disclosure for a private university, and it is the page to open before trusting any aggregator's summary of it.
Seat Matrix
Seat counts exist, but not on cgu-odisha.ac.in. The one place CGU has put an intake figure in public is the return it filed with the ranking framework, and the four-year undergraduate sanction there peaks at 1440 and then sits at 1050 for two consecutive years.
| Programme group | Academic year | Sanctioned intake |
|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate, four-year programmes | 2020-21 | 1320 |
| Undergraduate, four-year programmes | 2021-22 | 1440 |
| Undergraduate, four-year programmes | 2022-23 | 1050 |
| Undergraduate, four-year programmes | 2023-24 | 1050 |
| Postgraduate, two-year programmes | 2022-23 | 132 |
| Postgraduate, two-year programmes | 2023-24 | 132 |
That reduction is worth raising at counselling, because a branch-wise breakdown of the current sanction has never been published either, and without it there is no way to tell which branches absorbed it.
Rankings
CGU is ranked 95th in the NIRF 2025 engineering category. The parameter scores behind that position are more useful than the rank itself, because they pull in opposite directions.
| NIRF 2025 engineering parameter | Score out of 100 |
|---|---|
| Teaching, Learning and Resources | 77.56 |
| Research and Professional Practice | 10.31 |
| Graduation Outcomes | 59.54 |
| Outreach and Inclusivity | 71.59 |
| Perception | 11.86 |
| Overall score, at rank 95 | 46.62 |
Read that column against the other ninety-nine institutions NIRF scored and the shape is unmistakable. Outreach and inclusivity puts CGU eighth on that parameter and teaching, learning and resources twenty-sixth, while research and professional practice is the lowest score any of the hundred recorded. Perception is low in absolute terms but is not the outlier here, with about a third of the hundred scoring below CGU on it. Graduation outcomes, the parameter built from completion and placement, sits eighty-second. A student choosing CGU is choosing a well-equipped undergraduate teaching campus, not a research university, and the ranking framework says so in its own arithmetic. The university's ranking page records a top-100 engineering position in every year from 2016 to 2025, so the position is stable rather than a single good year.
Departments
CGU groups its teaching into seven faculties, and the engineering faculty is by some distance the largest, carrying separate departments for chemical, civil and environmental, computer science, electrical, electronics and communication, marine and mechanical engineering. Mining is taught here only as a diploma, filed under the mechanical engineering department in the prospectus, with no department and no B.Tech of its own.
| Faculty | What sits inside it |
|---|---|
| Engineering and Technology | seven engineering departments, diploma through Ph.D |
| Physical and Mathematical Sciences | physics, chemistry, mathematics, to M.Sc and Ph.D |
| Management | MBA in HR, finance and marketing, BBA, B.Com |
| Humanities and Social Science | English language and literature |
| Agriculture and Allied Sciences | B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture, M.Sc in botany, zoology and biotechnology |
| Pharmacy | B.Pharm |
| Tourism and Hospitality | BHMCT, Master in Tourism and Hospitality |
Six undergraduate engineering programmes hold National Board of Accreditation approval, and CGU's ranking and accreditation page names them: mechanical, electronics and communication, computer science, chemical, civil and electrical engineering. They do not all run on the same accreditation cycle, so the current validity window differs between them. Marine engineering, mining and the newer computing specialisations sit outside that NBA set, so check accreditation against the branch you actually intend to join rather than against the university as a whole. There is no NAAC grade to check at all: that same page names the National Board of Accreditation and NIRF and nothing else, and the NAAC entry in CGU's own site menu points at nothing. Aggregator profiles that award CGU a NAAC A are describing something the university has never published.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The central library holds more than 64,081 books and 59 periodicals, is fully automated, and carries online databases and NPTEL video courses through its audio-visual section. Three auditoriums serve the campus, the S.C. Bhadra hall seating more than 400 people and the RIHC hall more than 250, with the Bosch auditorium as the third.
Beyond the teaching blocks the campus runs a swimming pool, a gymnasium, basketball and volleyball courts, football, cricket and hockey grounds, a guest house, a canteen and cafeteria, and a health centre staffed around the clock with an advanced care ambulance on call. Two separate incubation bodies operate on site and both still trade under the engineering college's initials: AIC CVRaman College of Engineering Foundation, an Atal Incubation Centre sponsored by the Atal Innovation Mission at NITI Aayog and working in advanced technology and manufacturing, and the CVRCE Technology Incubator Foundation, affiliated to NIDHI-TBI. The Atal centre lists the harder infrastructure of the two, a fab lab and tool room for startups with a manufacturing component, plus AR-VR, drone technology and cyber security centres of excellence.
Hostel
Here two official CGU pages disagree with each other, and a prospective boarder should know that before planning. The campus life page describes four girls' hostels with 220 rooms and a capacity of 650, and five boys' hostels with 200 rooms and a capacity of 600. The infrastructure page instead describes six hostels housing 2,500 students, with air-conditioned rooms available and generators, water coolers and dining halls throughout.
Both cannot be current, and the campus life page gives away which one is stale: it is still written in CVRCE's name and tells applicants to seek accommodation at admission into CVRCE, wording that predates the 2020 conversion. Read the infrastructure figure as the likelier present state, then get the block, the room type and the occupancy in writing at allotment. No hostel or mess charge is published anywhere on the CGU site, accommodation is released only after fees are paid and enrolment is complete, and the prospectus warns that a student who does not report within a week of classes starting loses both the allotment and the hostel fees already paid.
Faculty
The only teaching headcount CGU has put its name to in public sits in the same return. It entered 451 faculty members in its India Rankings 2025 submission, alongside 265 full-time and 51 part-time doctoral scholars, and reported 27 full-time Ph.D completions in the latest year on file against 3 two years earlier. That completion curve is the clearest sign of a teaching institution building a research layer on top of itself rather than one that already had it.
The funded-research picture matches the low research parameter in the ranking table. The same return records 10 sponsored projects worth 2,89,77,803 rupees and 14 consultancy projects worth 2,07,29,360 rupees in its most recent reported year. Both money figures rose while the project counts fell, from 12 sponsored and 16 consultancy projects the year before, so the growth is in project size rather than project volume. Spread across a teaching staff that size, sums like these are why the ranking table scores CGU 10.31 on research against 77.56 on teaching.
Individual faculty listings live on each department's own page rather than in one consolidated directory. At the top of that structure the leadership page names Prof. Banshidhar Majhi, an NIT Rourkela alumnus who was Vice Chancellor of VSSUT Burla and Director of IIITDM Kancheepuram, as Vice Chancellor, Prof. Guda Sridevi as Pro-Vice Chancellor and Dr Binita Panda as Registrar.
Notable Alumni
We could not find a single named alumnus documented on an official CGU page. The alumni network CGU runs is a Vaave-powered platform with a members directory, a newsroom and a jobs and internships board, and reaching any of it needs a registration; the university's own alumni write-up describes the app at length without naming one graduate it exists to connect. Rather than borrow a name from an aggregator, we are leaving this blank until CGU publishes one.
News & Articles
CGU keeps a dated notice board rather than a press room, and the mix on it tells you what the campus week actually looks like: club notices from the basketball, chess, robotics, kabaddi, coding and Eco-Alchemy clubs dominate the recent entries, interleaved with the academic items that matter to a current student, the odd-semester academic calendars for 2026-27, a corrected branch-change allowed list and individual Ph.D degree awards. The item an applicant should not miss runs in the site-wide ticker instead: the last date for applying for cancellation of B.Tech admission is 20.07.2026, per an AICTE notification dated 02.06.2026, with no refund on applications submitted after that date.
College Compare
Four Odisha institutions finished ahead of CGU in the same NIRF 2025 engineering table, and the comparison that matters is not the rank gap but which parameter creates it.
| Institution, NIRF 2025 engineering | Rank | Overall | Teaching, Learning and Resources | Research and Professional Practice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| National Institute of Technology Rourkela | 13 | 66.62 | 83.55 | 59.25 |
Siksha O Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar | 22 | 62.58 | 85.34 | 43.83 |
| Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Bhubaneswar | 36 | 58.79 | 78.64 | 47.76 |
| Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar | 39 | 58.22 | 74.57 | 39.14 |
| C.V. Raman Global University, Odisha | 95 | 46.62 | 77.56 | 10.31 |
On teaching, learning and resources CGU is scored three points above IIT Bhubaneswar and about a point below KIIT. On research it is scored at roughly a quarter of IIT Bhubaneswar's figure and a sixth of NIT Rourkela's. Read the two columns together and the distance between CGU and the four above it is mostly one parameter wide.

Janla sits on the southern side of Bhubaneswar, in Khordha district. CGU also runs a city office at Alkapuri Chowk in Ranchi, Jharkhand, listed on its admission page, and that outpost fits who actually enrols here: of the 4978 undergraduates counted in its ranking return, 1665 are from within Odisha, 3059 came from other states and 254 from outside India, so most of the campus has travelled to reach it.
