Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandals Dr Bhanuben Nanavati College Of Pharmacy, Gate No One, Mithibai College Building, First Floor, V M Road, Vileparle West, Mumbai

Mumbai Suburban, Maharashtra Est. 2004 Official site Updated
NIRF Pharmacy
#38

Two candidates can take the same MHT-CET paper, apply to Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Pharmacy in Mumbai, and end up at opposite ends of the state merit list for a place in the same B.Pharm classroom. The state's own allotment sheet explains why: of the 80 seats this college puts into Maharashtra's centralised admission process, 51 are reserved for the Gujarati linguistic minority, 25 are open state-level seats and 4 are all-India. After the third round of 2025-26 the open block stopped at an MHT-CET score of 96.7753773 while the minority block ran down to 72.5493765. Fifty-one of those eighty seats never enter the open queue at all, and which queue you stand in decides everything else on this page.

Overview

The address the college and the CET Cell both publish is Gate No. 1, first floor, Mithibai College Campus, V.M. Road, Vile Parle West, so the teaching space sits inside a larger Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal property rather than on a campus of its own. Teaching began in 2004 and the B.Pharm intake was 60 that year, rising to 100 from 2017-18.

Its paperwork changed shape recently. The college is permanently affiliated to the University of Mumbai, approved by the Pharmacy Council of India, and was conferred autonomous status by the UGC and the University of Mumbai with effect from the academic year 2025-26. The label moved with the cycle. The 2024-25 counselling portal records institute 03228 as Un-Aided, Non-Autonomous, Linguistic Minority - Gujarathi, while every 2025-26 allotment list for the same code prints Un-Aided Autonomous.

For all the argument about the four all-India seats, this is a Maharashtra room. The college's ranking submission counts 432 bachelor's students and 117 master's students, of whom 428 and 116 respectively are from within the state; five students in the whole college came from outside Maharashtra, and none from outside India. The same filing counts 278 women among the 432 undergraduates.

Courses & Fees

Three qualifications run on this floor, and only two of them have seats you can compete for through counselling.

ProgrammeDurationEntrance routeSanctioned seatsApproved first-year fee, 2026-27
B.Pharm4 yearsMHT-CET or NEET, through Maharashtra CAP100, plus 5 tuition-fee-waiver seatsRs 2,47,500

Ph.D in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Pharmacology3 to 5 yearsCollege admission notice, under University of Mumbai circulars10 in Pharmaceutics, 09 in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, 15 in PharmacologyNot published

The fee is not the college's to set. Maharashtra's Fees Regulating Authority approved both amounts on 10-06-2026, splitting the B.Pharm figure into a tuition fee of Rs 2,15,218 and a development fee of Rs 32,282 and the M.Pharm figure into Rs 1,70,434 of tuition and Rs 25,566 of development fee. Those are annual amounts, and neither is the whole cheque: the college's own fee structure adds a caution-money deposit on top of the tuition and development fee for both courses.

Set against its neighbours, the price is the highest in its district. The authority's 2026-27 report carries five pharmacy colleges in Mumbai Suburban, four of them at fees approved this cycle and H.K. College of Pharmacy carried forward as No Upward Revision from a September 2025 meeting.

Institute (FRA ID)Approved B.Pharm fee, 2026-27
Bombay College of Pharmacy (PH3016)Rs 1,19,500
H.K. College of Pharmacy, Jogeshwari (PH3234)Rs 1,47,000
Mumbai Educational Trust's Institute of Pharmacy (PH3226)Rs 2,07,500
Vivekanand Education Society's College of Pharmacy, Chembur (PH3237)Rs 2,28,000
SVKM's Dr. Bhanuben Nanavati College of Pharmacy (PH3228)Rs 2,47,500

A four-year degree here therefore costs roughly twice what the same degree costs at Bombay College of Pharmacy. The cheaper college is in the same 2025 pharmacy ranking, but in the alphabetical 102-125 rank band rather than the numbered hundred, so what the premium buys is a placed rank against a banded one, not a rank against no rank.

Admissions

Twenty of the hundred B.Pharm seats are the college's to fill. The other eighty, and the five tuition-fee-waiver places that sit outside the intake, are allotted by the Maharashtra CET Cell, which is why the paperwork below is largely the state's and not the college's.

For B.Pharm, the qualifying bar is set by the CET Cell and not by the college, and it has loosened. The 2026-27 notice asks for a 10+2 pass with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Biology as optional subjects taken individually, plus a non-zero MHT-CET 2026 score; it sets no aggregate percentage. The college's older eligibility sheet still shows the 45 per cent aggregate, or 40 per cent for backward-class, EWS and PWD candidates of Maharashtra, which applied in earlier cycles, and a candidate who reads only that sheet may rule themselves out for nothing. All-India candidates may enter on NEET instead, and the notice gives preference to a non-zero positive NEET score over an MHT-CET score alone. Registration carried a fee of Rs 1300 for general candidates and Rs 1000 for reserved-category and PWD candidates of Maharashtra, waived for anyone already registered for MHT-CET 2026.

A third way in skips the first year altogether and is easy to overlook, because it is not an MHT-CET route. The same eligibility sheet carries a direct-second-year entry for holders of a PCI- or AICTE-approved D.Pharm at 45 per cent, or 40 per cent for backward-class, EWS and PWD candidates of Maharashtra, which compresses the degree to three years. The door is narrow: the college's ranking submission records 13 lateral-entry admissions in 2019-20, 13 in 2020-21 and 10 in 2021-22 against a first-year intake of 100 in each of those years.

The master's route is narrower than most students expect. The college's published criteria require a B.Pharm with at least 55 per cent, or 50 per cent for backward-class, EWS and PWD candidates of Maharashtra, and a non-zero positive score in GPAT conducted by the National Testing Agency. GPAT is a gate here, not a tie-breaker, and the only stated way around it is the sponsored-candidate clause on the same sheet, which asks instead for two years of full-time work in a registered firm, industry, research institute or government body in the field being applied for.

The postgraduate sequence is worth reading in the order the college draws it. Its flow chart starts with the allotment published by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, and only the seats still vacant after that CAP round are filled at institute level, through a form on a link the college posts, a provisional merit list on its own notice board, a grievance window and an in-person counselling round held in the building. A GPAT-qualified candidate who misses the state allotment therefore still has a route, but it runs through the college's noticeboard rather than the CET Cell's portal.

Cutoff

The Gujarati linguistic-minority quota is the single thing that shapes this cutoff table. Fifty-one of the eighty counselling seats are set aside for candidates of that community, and because the eligible community is far smaller than the open field chasing the 25 state-level seats, the minority block runs a long way further down the merit list before it fills.

Seat block, 2025-26SeatsClosing score after CAP-IAfter CAP-IIAfter CAP-III

Tuition-fee waiver598.312380897.872132397.3059070

The merit numbers beside those scores make the gap concrete. After the third round the last candidate seated on an open state-level seat carried state general merit number 1223, while the last minority allottee carried 18633 on the same list.

Read the tuition-fee-waiver row before anything else. Those five places are a separate choice code, 0322882311T, with its own five-seat sanction and no minority or all-India share, and they closed above the ordinary open block in every one of the three rounds. A candidate who is not eligible for the waiver scheme is reading a row they cannot enter.

The counselling structure itself changed between 2023 and 2025. In the 2023 cycle the college's Maharashtra seats were split into home-university and other-than-home-university pools, which closed at 98.4519189 and 97.9667442 while the minority block closed at 90.1406605. By 2025 those two pools had merged into a single state-level block. A 2023 cutoff sheet is therefore not comparable row for row with a 2025 one.

Placements

The college's training and placement page states that it has an excellent placement record with more than 90% campus recruitment. Its own filing to the Ministry of Education does not support that for the bachelor's programme.

Graduating batchGraduated in timePlacedMedian salaryHigher studies
B.Pharm 2023-2410152Rs 4,80,00049

M.Pharm 2022-234436Rs 5,15,0002
M.Pharm 2021-224236Rs 4,80,0006
Both blocks of rows come from the pharmacy-category submission BNCP filed for India Rankings 2025.

Two patterns sit in that table. The bachelor's degree here functions mainly as a route to further study: in 2022-23 only 29 of 113 graduates took a job while 84 studied on, and even in the strongest year, 2023-24, placements and higher studies were near even. The master's degree behaves the opposite way, sending 54 of 58 graduates straight into work at a median that has risen in each of the two most recent reported years. If you are choosing between a B.Pharm seat here and a B.Pharm seat elsewhere on the strength of a placement percentage, the number that matters is 52 out of 101, not the site's undated claim.

Names, where the percentages run out, sit on the placement cell's own pages: a summer-internship roster carrying Cipla, Glenmark, Macleods, Zydus, Alkem, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bharat Serum and Vaccines, Hindustan Unilever and the Haffkine Institute, and a separate placement roster listing graduates against the firms that hired them, IQVIA among them. The two most recent recruiting visits the page puts a date on are a Sandoz drive on 12 May 2025 and a Medtronic drive for final-year B.Pharm students ten days after it, on 22 May 2025.

Seat Matrix

The college enters Maharashtra's counselling under two choice codes, and the second one is easy to miss. Code 0322882310 carries the ordinary B.Pharm intake; code 0322882311T carries the tuition-fee-waiver places, which sit outside the sanctioned hundred rather than inside them.

Postgraduate seats are not broken out this way. The four M.Pharm specialisations carry 15 seats each, and the doctorate is capped at 10 places in Pharmaceutics, 09 in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and 15 in Pharmacology.

Rankings

On the government's 2025 pharmacy table the college is 38th with an overall score of 55.55. Break 55.55 into the five parameters it is built from and the college looks like two different institutions.

NIRF 2025 parameterScore out of 100
Teaching, Learning and Resources70.40
Research and Professional Practice40.61
Graduation Outcomes73.28
Outreach and Inclusivity53.27
Perception22.59

Graduation outcomes and teaching resources carry the rank; perception, at 22.59, is the weakest of the five by a wide margin, and research sits below the halfway mark, which is the same story the sponsored-project figures under Departments tell. A rank of 38 here describes a college that teaches and graduates well and is barely known beyond the people it teaches.

Two other Mumbai institutions sit above this one in the same table: the Institute of Chemical Technology at 6th on 74.77 and SVKM's Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies at 11th on 70.59. Narsee Monjee runs under the same Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal trust as this college but is a separate deemed university with its own admission process, so a student comparing the two is comparing two institutions, not two campuses of one. Nothing on this page belongs to Narsee Monjee, and nothing here belongs to Mithibai College, whose gate the address borrows.

Departments

Three of the college's five teaching groupings run a master's cohort; Pharmacognosy and Pharmacy Practice and Allied Subjects run none. The academics menu opens four department pages, and the fifth grouping, Pharmacy Practice and Allied Subjects, exists only on the faculty side of the site with no department page of its own.

DepartmentM.Pharm seatsPh.D offered
Pharmaceutics15Yes
Pharmacology15Yes
Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Quality Assurance and Pharmaceutical Analysis15 in Quality Assurance and 15 in Pharmaceutical AnalysisYes, in Pharmaceutical Chemistry
PharmacognosyNoneNo

Pharmacognosy is the odd one out. It teaches into the bachelor's syllabus and supervises no master's cohort and no doctorate of its own, so a candidate set on natural-product research should ask which supervisor would actually take them before choosing this address over one with a pharmacognosy master's.

Research volume is modest against the college's teaching scores. The ranking submission records 18 full-time doctoral students, three doctorates awarded in 2023-24, three sponsored projects worth Rs 1,24,69,000 in that year and two consultancy projects worth Rs 3,91,000.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The equipment list is heavier than the floor area suggests. The Central Instrument Laboratory holds an Agilent Infinity 1260 HPLC, a Shimadzu IRAffinity-1S infrared spectrophotometer, a Malvern nano particle size analyser, a BioTek Synergy H1 microplate reader and a GEA PandaPlus 2000 laboratory homogeniser. A separate pilot plant carries tablet compression, coating, rapid mixer granulation, fluid bed processing and spray drying equipment, and the cell culture laboratory maintains lines including HeLa, RAW 264.7, A549 and MiaPaCa for cytotoxicity and anticancer screening. The animal house is registered with CPCSEA and has its own incinerator.

The library's own page contradicts itself on area. It describes the Central Library as 1800 sq ft in its opening line and then records a carpet area of 236 square metres in the fact sheet below, while the stock figures are consistent at 8300 books across 1450 titles, 30 journals, 778 bound volumes and 255 M.Pharm theses, with a reading room seating 80 and cataloguing run on Koha. The same page counts about 21 computers in the computer laboratory, two seminar halls seating 110, and Satva Vatika, the terrace medicinal garden, at 71.35 square feet with around 46 potted plants. Physical access is filed rather than claimed: BNCP told the ranking framework that lifts or ramps reach more than 80% of the buildings, and that specially designed toilets do too.

Hostel

A hostel is listed in the miscellaneous amenities on the college's infrastructure page, alongside a canteen, gym, medical facility and sports playground. That single word is all the site publishes: no capacity, no eligibility rule, no allotment process and no rent appears anywhere on it, and the four all-India seats and any outstation state candidate are the people that gap actually costs. Settle it with the college office before accepting a seat rather than after.

Faculty

The teaching roster names 31 people: six professors, ten associate professors and fifteen assistant professors, listed on the college's team page. The ranking submission enters a larger figure, 43 faculty members, which counts staff beyond the core teaching list.

Dr. Rashmi Mallya has been on the roster since 01/09/2004, the year teaching began here, and several colleagues on the same mandatory disclosure date from 2007 and 2010. The principal, Dr. Munira Momin, is a Fulbright-Nehru administrative scholar and was principal coordinator of the Department of Science and Technology FIST grant of 100 lakh that ran from June 2018 to June 2022. Pay dwarfs everything else in what the college reports spending. The staff bill was Rs 6,86,21,789 in 2023-24, against Rs 1,19,64,672 on maintaining academic infrastructure and consumables and Rs 59,76,172 on new laboratory equipment; the equipment line had been Rs 66,98,962 the year before and Rs 40,29,830 the year before that. The instrument list in Facilities is being topped up out of a modest annual line, not rebuilt.

Notable Alumni

The college's distinguished-alumni page offers photographs and a downloadable Alumni Book 2023 rather than names set in text, so there is no published list to reproduce here and no widely recognised public figure is claimed.

What the college does name, in its placement-cell records, are graduates who came back to speak. Vikrant Desai, a marketing manager at Zydus Healthcare Limited, opened the 2022-23 placement season with a session on pharmaceutical marketing; Kajol Chandawalla, B.Pharm 2017, returned in December 2022 to talk about claims work after pharmacy; Dhaval Sanchala came back as a quality control specialist at Cactus Communications to tell final-year B.Pharm and M.Pharm students what skills a competent writer needs. The Alumni Speaks page carries several more with their batch and employer, and one of them never left: Sankalp Gharat, from the 2014 to 2016 master's batch, went to the Macleods Pharmaceuticals R&D centre as a research associate and now appears on the college's teaching roster as an assistant professor.

Approvals & Accreditation

Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.

official-report

The badges are the college's own and not the trust's. BNCP is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council in its first cycle with an A++ grade at a CGPA of 3.64 out of 4, and its B.Pharm programme has been re-accredited by the National Board of Accreditation for six years, to AY 2029. The A++ came on the first assessment cycle rather than on a re-accreditation, which is what the phrase "1st Cycle" in the college's own wording marks.

Read the NBA line precisely. It names the B.Pharm programme, and the college claims no NBA accreditation for any of the four M.Pharm specialisations, so a master's applicant is choosing a course that carries the institution's NAAC grade but not a programme accreditation of its own. Statutory approval is separate again and sits with the Pharmacy Council of India and the All India Council for Technical Education, with the University of Mumbai as the permanent affiliating and examining authority.

Scholarships

No scholarship of the college's own funding appears on its scholarship page. What it publishes instead is a shelf of downloadable summaries and FAQ sheets for state and central schemes: a scholarship for girl students admitted through the CAP rounds, an OBC scheme, a set of government scholarship schemes, the Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Vasatigruh Nirvah Bhatta Yojna, a minority scheme published in English and as the Alpasankhyank Shishyavrutti Yojna in Marathi, and the Rajashri Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shikshan Shulk Shishyavrutti Yojna for economically backward class candidates. Applications run through MahaDBT, which the college links from both its B.Pharm and M.Pharm admissions pages, so the relief arrives from the state and not as a discount at the college counter.

One award does attach to the course itself, and it is the reason GPAT is worth clearing rather than scraping. The college confirms that every GPAT-qualified student admitted to M.Pharm is eligible for the AICTE postgraduate stipend, and that a student who leaves the course midway must repay the whole amount by demand draft. The trade is exclusive: a student who takes the AICTE stipend cannot also apply for any other government scholarship.
