Padmashri Dr. D.y.patil Institute Of Pharmaceutical Science And Research, Pimpri, Pune 411018

Pune, Maharashtra Est. 1994 Official site Updated
NIRF Pharmacy
#35

Maharashtra's pharmacy counselling portal still carries this Pimpri institute as code 06375, with its address and its un-aided status intact, but the course table under that entry on the 2026-27 portal is blank. The B.Pharm and Pharm.D seats that used to be allotted here on an MHT-CET percentile are now published as its own intake by Dnyaan Prasad Global University, which the Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society has built around the institute and which prices a B.Pharm year at Rs 2,50,000. The Pharmacy Council approvals and the NIRF pharmacy rank of 35 belong to the same campus either way; the queue you join to reach it does not.

Overview

The institute opened in 1994 as the first pharmacy institute in the Pimpri Chinchwad area, starting with a single B.Pharm programme, and its own profile page still dates the whole enterprise from that journey started in 1994. Everything else about its identity has moved since. It teaches under the Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, and the school's current site introduces itself as Dnyaan Prasad Global University School of Pharmacy and Research, formerly Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, a university the society describes as holding six constituent institutes across engineering, pharmacy, management, hotel management, law and humanities. The university is new: its own site states that it is recognised by the UGC and established under Government of Maharashtra Act No. 20 of 2024. Two live websites therefore describe one campus, one still under the institute's old name and one under the university's, and they do not always carry the same detail.

Getting the right D. Y. Patil is the first practical task on this page, because Pimpri alone holds two of them. The pharmacy institute described here is the one the state records as Dr. D.Y. Patil Unitech Society's Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Research, at the Dr. D.Y. Patil Education Complex opposite HA Factory, Pimpri, Pune 411018. It is not Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, the deemed university whose medical and dental colleges sit on the neighbouring Pimpri campus, and it is not the Dr. D. Y. Patil College of Pharmacy at Akurdi, which the same state portal lists separately as code 06371 at the Pradhikaran campus in Sector 29. Fees, seat counts and cut-offs quoted for Akurdi belong to Akurdi. The institute's own website sits on a dypvp.edu.in address, close enough to the Vidyapeeth's name to be misread, but that domain resolves to the Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, which is also the society the CET Cell files code 06375 under; the Vidyapeeth runs on dpu.edu.in. The Pharmacy Council files a longer version again, registering the institute as Padmashree Dr D Y Patil Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, formerly Padmashree Dr D Y Patil College of Pharmacy, Pimpri.

Courses & Fees

Twelve programmes carry a published price on the university's fee sheet, from a two-year diploma to a six-year clinical doctorate. Every figure below is an annual one except the clinical-trials certificate, which is priced for its whole six months. Two more programmes are taught and not priced on that sheet, the three-year B.Pharm lateral entry and the doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences.

ProgrammeDurationPublished fee
D.Pharm2 yearsRs 1,10,000
B.Pharm4 yearsRs 2,50,000
B.Pharm with MBA (Pharm. Technology)5 yearsRs 2,90,000

Pharm.D6 yearsRs 2,75,000

M.Pharm, Pharmacology2 yearsRs 3,30,000
M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance2 yearsRs 3,30,000
M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Analysis2 yearsRs 1,00,000
Advanced Diploma in AI and Computational Drug Discovery1 yearRs 1,00,000
Advanced Certificate in Clinical Trials and Pharmacovigilance6 monthsRs 60,000

The annual figures rank the programmes in the wrong order, because the durations run from six months to six years. Pharm.D is the expensive commitment on the sheet even though its yearly figure sits below the master's: six years at Rs 2,75,000 against two years at Rs 3,30,000. The M.Pharm price is identical across all three specialisations, and so is the intake at 15 seats each, so the choice between pharmaceutics, pharmacology and quality assurance turns entirely on the laboratory and the supervisor.

One caution about older fee figures you may find elsewhere. While the institute admitted through state counselling its fees were set by Maharashtra's Fees Regulating Authority, and it still keeps that authority's approvals and computation sheets on a page of its own. The university's own list above is the current one, and the two were produced by different processes.

Admissions

Entry to the four-year and six-year programmes is gated on a pharmacy entrance score rather than on board marks alone, and the institute names several tests as acceptable. Its B.Pharm page asks for a 10+2 pass with English, Physics and Chemistry plus either Mathematics or Biology, at least 45% in those subjects taken together, 40% for a reserved-category candidate, and a non-zero positive score in at least one pharmacy entrance examination such as MHT-CET, NEET or PERA CET. The Pharm.D page carries the same bar and adds a second qualifying route, a D.Pharm from an institution approved under section 12 of the Pharmacy Act. The diploma asks only for a regular science 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics. There is also a shorter way into the bachelor's, a three-year second-year entry the admission brochure lists as B.Pharm Direct Second Year, and it is used rather than merely advertised: the institute admitted 21, 22 and 22 lateral-entry students in the three years its ranking return covers. The brochure page headed eligibility criteria prints a duration against each programme and no entry condition against any of them, and the university's eligibility page sets out criteria for the diploma, the plain B.Pharm, the integrated B.Pharm with MBA, all three M.Pharm branches and both Pharm.D versions without listing the Direct Second Year at all. A diploma holder counting on that route should get the condition in writing rather than assume the usual one.

Postgraduate entry works on an interview, not on a rank list. For the M.Pharm the institute asks for a B.Pharm from any PCI-approved institute with at least 55% of marks and selects purely on a personal interview conducted by the university, with preference given to candidates holding a valid GPAT or PERA CET scorecard. The three-year Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) is filled the same way, on interview merit, with GPAT preferred. A GPAT score is therefore worth carrying here, but it does not admit you by itself, and a candidate without one is not shut out.

There is a university entrance test in the picture now, and the two DPGU pages that describe it disagree about whether pharmacy sits inside it. The DPAT page carries a downloadable syllabus for the degree side of the school, B.Pharm, the integrated B.Pharm with MBA, all three M.Pharm branches, the M.Sc., Pharm.D and the post-baccalaureate version, and put the pharmacy sitting at 11:15 am on Monday 17 August 2026, with registration closing at 3 pm on Saturday 15 August. The diploma, the AI diploma and the clinical-trials certificate are not on that syllabus list. The university's eligibility page names its own test as an acceptable score for the B.Tech, MBA, BBA and hospitality programmes, and for every pharmacy programme names only MHT-CET, NEET, PERA CET or another state or national pharmacy entrance. Both of those dates are behind us for this cycle. Ask which document governs the programme you want before you sit anything.

The change worth checking before you plan a cycle is which authority allots the seat. In 2024-25 the state carried three course rows against this institute, 0637582310 for B.Pharmacy with 100 seats, 0637582311T for 5 more, and 0637510010 for Pharm.D with 30, all under Savitribai Phule Pune University. On the CET Cell's current 2026-27 portal the same institute code carries no course rows at all. The cycle before that is the more telling one, because it ran to completion: this institute's name appears in neither the state's pharmacy seat matrix nor its CAP Round I cut-off merit list for that year, while its Akurdi namesake is in both. Both websites now point applicants at the same university admission office rather than at a CAP portal, so treat guidance built on state counselling for this campus as out of date and settle the route with that office before you pay a CET application fee.

One consequence of that shift is not settled by anything either party publishes: which university signs the degree. The Pharmacy Council's approval for the current session still names Savitribai Phule Pune University as the affiliating body for every degree programme and the state technical board for the diploma, while the fee sheet and the admission office are the new university's. Get the answer in writing before you pay, because the awarding university is what an employer and a registration council will eventually read.

Cutoff

The most recent year in which the state published a closing figure against this institute is 2024-25, and those numbers are the only thresholds anyone has for it. The state prints them as a general merit number with the merit score, normally the MHT-CET percentile, in brackets behind it.

Seat category, CAP Round I, 2024-25B.Pharm closing merit numberPercentile
Open, home university285293.5346425
OBC, home university361692.1865451

Scheduled Tribe, home university1667073.9134477
Open ladies, home university173095.7134166
Open, other than home university105597.1651544

The six-year degree closed at a comparable level and, in one column, a much sharper one. Pharm.D took its open home-university seat at merit number 2775 on 93.6121346 and its open other-than-home seat at 543 on 98.3821558, so a candidate from outside the Pune university zone needed a percentile close to 98 for the clinical course while a Pune-zone candidate cleared it in the low nineties. That gap is the arithmetic of a small out-of-zone quota, not a difference in the class you would sit in.

Read it as a record of who the institute has been admitting, not as a line to clear next year: a seat filled by the university itself carries no published threshold, so the office is the only place that knows where the last intake ended.

Placements

The institute's own placement page names recruiters and dates but no salaries; the salary numbers come from the return it files with the Ministry of Education, and they are reported per programme group.

2023-24 batchGraduated in minimum timePlacedMedian salaryWent to higher study
B.Pharm, four years11857Rs 3,45,00057
M.Pharm, two years5148Rs 3,60,0000
Pharm.D, six years2926Rs 4,10,0001

The undergraduate split is exactly even. Of the 118 who finished the four-year degree on time, 57 took a job and 57 went on to study further, so employment and a postgraduate seat were equally likely exits from that class. The master's cohort runs the other way, 48 of 51 placed and none recorded as continuing, and the clinical doctorate carries the highest median on the sheet.

Medians have risen over the three years the same filing covers, and the placement rate has not moved with them. The B.Pharm median went from Rs 2,93,000 for the 2021-22 batch to Rs 3,35,000 and then Rs 3,45,000, while the number placed moved from 60 of 114 to 49 of 122 and then 57 of 118. Pay per placed graduate is improving; the share of the class that gets placed dipped in the middle year and has not climbed back to where it started.

The recruiter list is industry-heavy and locally weighted. The institute names Alembic Pharmaceuticals, Emcure Pharmaceuticals, Cognizant, TCS, Cipla, Sun Pharmaceutical and GSK among the companies its students join, and the same page logs campus drives by Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Strides Pharma, Intas Pharmaceuticals, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, Eris Lifesciences, Aristo Pharma, Macloids, Medtronics, Cotiviti, Omega Healthcare and Mu Sigma. Formulation and clinical-research roles dominate that list, with a visible IT services and healthcare analytics tail that a pharmacy graduate should read as a genuine second career track.

Seat Matrix

Approved intake is set programme by programme by the Pharmacy Council of India, and the letter for the current session is published in full on the institute's site.

ProgrammeAffiliating bodyPCI approved intake, 2025-2026

Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate)Savitribai Phule Pune University10

How that B.Pharm hundred used to be divided is worth keeping, because it shows how much of the class was ever reachable through counselling. In the state's 2024-25 seat matrix the institute's Pharmacy course carried a sanctioned intake of 100 with 80 CAP seats, made up of 65 Maharashtra State seats and 15 All India seats, against 20 institute-level seats and 1 orphan-category seat, with no minority quota. One seat in five was always filled by the institute directly. With the CAP rows now empty, that direct route is the whole of it.

The university has since published its own coursewise intake for 2026-27, under which the School of Pharmacy and Research carries 75 B.Pharm seats, 25 on the B.Pharm with MBA, 60 in D.Pharm, 30 in Pharm.D and 10 in the post-baccalaureate version, 15 in each of the three M.Pharm specialisations and 15 in the M.Sc., with 30 on the AI diploma and 15 on the clinical-trials certificate. The bachelor's hundred survives that move but is split in two: the straight four-year degree is now smaller than the 100 the Pharmacy Council approved for the 2025-2026 session, and the balance has gone to the five-year MBA-integrated version. Anyone counting on a plain B.Pharm seat is competing for a shorter list than the approval letter suggests.

Rankings

Teaching, learning and resources70.53
Research and professional practice25.51
Graduation outcomes73.50
Outreach and inclusivity61.91
Perception64.76
Overall56.18

The interesting number in that column is the reputation score, not the total. At rank 35 the institute scores 64.76 on perception against 25.51 on research and professional practice, and only six institutions in the whole pharmacy table score higher on perception than that, the lowest of them ranked 19th. The gap runs the opposite way to most of the ranked pharmacy table, where the research score is the one doing the lifting: here employers and academic peers rate the place well above what its publication and patent output alone would earn. That helps at the placement desk and hurts at the research desk, so an M.Pharm applicant should ask which supervisor here is actually publishing.

Its profile page also lists placings from private and international exercises, among them a Times Impact Ranking entry for 2025 and a Leaders in Pharmacy position awarded by an education portal. Each of those runs on its own method and its own submissions, and none of them is the government table above.

Departments

Teaching is organised into four subject departments, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy, with a Department of Pharmacy Practice attached to the Pharm.D programme. The three M.Pharm specialisations do not sit one to one on top of that list: pharmaceutics and pharmacology each have a department behind them, while quality assurance is taught without a department carrying its name, so ask which of the four departments supplies its supervisors before choosing that branch.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The library is the only facility here documented in numbers. The school reports a collection of 21,000 or more books, e-books, journals, magazines, newspapers, theses and research reports, with a book bank, remote access to electronic resources, reprography and open access for M.Pharm students, and the institute adds institutional memberships of Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd. and the British Council Library, Pune, plus separate reading rooms for undergraduates, postgraduates, doctoral students and staff. The sophisticated analytical equipment sits in a spacious instrumentation room set up separately rather than inside any one department, which matters for a research project, though who may book time on it and on what terms is not published anywhere on either site.

The instrument budget is where the money goes. The institute reported Rs 93,92,335 of capital spending on new laboratory equipment in 2023-24 against Rs 9,64,455 on the library, roughly ten to one, and the equipment figure held at a similar level in each of the two years before. Physical access is documented rather than claimed. Answering the ranking framework's three questions on facilities for physically challenged students, the institute puts both its ramp-or-lift coverage and its adapted-toilet coverage above the 80% mark, and reports walking aids, wheelchairs and transport between buildings as available.

Hostel

The school runs separate hostels for boys and girls, without saying on its hostel page where they stand relative to the teaching building. It describes the rooms as furnished with a bed and storage, study table, chair, mattress, wardrobe, reading light and a personal locker, with a pantry area, 24x7 hot water, Wi-Fi through the building, RO drinking water, provision for air-conditioning and refrigerators, and 24x7 generator backup. At building level it lists two-wheeler parking, a dining hall, lift access, a parents' lounge, a TV room, an indoor games space and a dedicated study area, with CCTV, round-the-clock security guards and a dedicated fire exit.

What the description does not carry is a price. No rent, mess charge or deposit is published on the hostel page, and neither the university fee list nor the 2026-27 brochure adds one, so residence cost is a separate question for the admission office and should go into the same written demand letter as the tuition.

Faculty

Who runs the school depends on which document you read, and the newer one wins. The university's academic leadership page names Dr. Nilesh M. Mahajan as Director of the School of Pharmacy and Research, under Dr. D. G. Bhalke as the in-charge Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology. The faculty roll filed with the ranking framework for 2023-24 was headed by Dr Sohan S Chitlange as Dean and Principal, on the staff since 16 August 2003; that return predates the university and does not describe the present office. Several professors on the same roll joined in the late 1990s and early 2000s, so the senior end of the department is long-tenured rather than newly assembled.

Research capacity is modest against that seniority, and it is the research and professional practice score in the NIRF return that shows it. The institute reported 24 full-time doctoral students and no part-time ones, with 6 doctorates awarded in 2023-24 against 4 in each of the two preceding years. The output exists but is thin for a department of that seniority: 8 patents granted and 4 published in the 2023 calendar year, 5 sponsored research projects worth Rs 35,21,322 in 2023-24, and 10 consultancy projects for 10 client organisations worth Rs 19,96,880. The consultancy count has fallen sharply from earlier years while the amount earned has risen, which points to fewer and larger jobs rather than a lost service line.

Notable Alumni

The school names its alumni by post rather than by prize, which is the more useful form for anyone deciding between branches. The published panel includes a technology lead in formulation R&D at Baxter International in Ahmedabad, a scientific manager at Innoplexus in Pune, a research assistant professor at Washington University in Saint Louis, a scientist at Pfizer in Chennai, an analytical R&D manager at Kenvue, a registered patent counsel practising IP consultancy, and the founder of a Maharashtra pharmaceutical company. The rest of the ten-name panel adds a professor of chemistry at Indus University in Ahmedabad, a translational scientist at the National Cancer Institute and an upstream process development scientist at Merck. Formulation and analytical development, research posts and regulatory or IP work are what recur; not one of the ten is a hospital pharmacist, which is worth weighing if the six-year clinical degree is what brought you to this page.

News & Articles

The development that changes what an applicant does here is the move from institute to university, and it is visible only in the institution's own documents. The school's site now heads itself Dnyaan Prasad Global University School of Pharmacy and Research, formerly Dr. D. Y. Patil Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research; the university dates itself to Government of Maharashtra Act No. 20 of 2024; the 2026-27 admission brochure heads its cover School of Pharmacy and Research under the Dr. D. Y. Patil Unitech Society, marks the old name Formerly, dates the school since 1994 and points at the university's web address; and the Pharmacy Council's approval for the current session still runs in the old one.

Expertie has not found a government notification, a UGC listing or a news report fixing the date that change took effect, or setting out what happens to a student already part-way through a Savitribai Phule Pune University degree. Nothing here should be read as an answer to that question.

College Compare

Four institutions in Pune hold a NIRF 2025 pharmacy rank, and this is the second of them. Poona College of Pharmacy is one place above at 34 with 56.28 against this institute's 56.18, a tenth of a point apart on the total and nothing like that underneath it: Poona College takes 35.55 on research and professional practice and 29.85 on perception, while this institute reverses the pair at 25.51 and 64.76. The other two Pune entries are far back, Dr. Vishwanath Karad MIT World Peace University at 70 and P. E. Society's Modern College of Pharmacy at 92. A research-minded M.Pharm applicant and a placement-minded B.Pharm applicant should not read that Poona College gap the same way.

The comparison a Pimpri family actually makes is with Akurdi, and the two tables answer it in opposite directions. The Akurdi college holds no NIRF 2025 pharmacy rank at all, and it still holds three live CAP course rows on the 2026-27 CET Cell portal where this campus now has none. Ranked but reachable only through a university office, against unranked but allotted on a percentile: that is the trade, and which side of it suits you depends on what your CET score turned out to be.

Contact & Location

The campus is at Sant Tukaram Nagar, Pimpri, Pune 411018, which the State CET Cell records in landmark form as the Dr. D.Y. Patil Education Complex opposite HA Factory. The two descriptions are the same place, and neither is the Pradhikaran address in Akurdi.

Admissions are handled on the helpline numbers 9146999515 and 9146999522, with 020-27805292 and 020-27805293 for other queries and admissions@dypdpu.edu.in for email. The mail domain is worth noting before you write: it is dypdpu.edu.in, which matches neither of the two websites the campus runs, so a reply arriving from it is not a sign that your enquiry went to the wrong institution.

Approvals & Accreditation

Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.

official-report

Accreditation is the strongest credential this institute carries into a comparison. It holds NAAC's A++ grade with a CGPA of 3.77 in its second accreditation cycle, which is the top band of the national assessment scale, and the same page records approval by the All India Council for Technical Education alongside recognition of every course by the Pharmacy Council of India.

The statutory approvals underneath that grade are current and course-specific. The 428th Executive Committee of the Pharmacy Council extended approval for the 2025-2026 session across the seven courses it regulates here, the diploma, the bachelor's, the three master's branches and both Pharm.D versions, subject to inspection through the year and to registering teaching faculty on the AEBAS biometric portal within three months. The M.Sc., the AI diploma, the clinical-trials certificate, the forensic-science degree and the Ph.D. sit outside that letter. Two more approvals are claimed but not readable. The institute's profile lists recognition under sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956, but the certificate behind that menu entry returns a server error rather than a document, and the file headed NBA accreditation is a scanned image with no searchable text, so which programmes it covers and until when cannot be read off it. The canonical accreditation record Expertie holds carries no NBA entry for this institute either. If programme-level accreditation matters to you, ask the office for the letter itself.

Scholarships

Two different systems pay for a seat here, and the larger one is not the university's. Under the state schemes a big share of the class pays nothing in tuition, and the ranking return is where the scale of that shows. Of the 495 students in the four-year programme, 247 received full tuition-fee reimbursement from the state and central government and 20 from private bodies, while 20 students in the backward and socially challenged categories were not receiving full reimbursement from any source. The same filing records 54 of the 98 master's students and 94 of the 220 Pharm.D students on full government reimbursement.

The filing names no scheme behind those numbers, only the source of the money, and neither institution website publishes a list of the state schemes its students draw on, so which one an individual candidate qualifies for is a question for the office and for the state's own scholarship portal rather than something this page can settle. Two things about the figures are worth carrying regardless. A reimbursement is paid back after the seat is taken, so the first instalment still has to be found; and every one of those counts was earned while the institute was filling seats through state counselling, which it no longer does, so ask in writing whether a university-quota seat carries the same eligibility before you rely on it.

The university adds a second set on top, and these are its own money rather than the state's. DPGU publishes six named schemes, the Chancellor's Scholarship, Bhagyavidya, a DPGU EWS scholarship, the DPGU Elite Sports Achiever award, Sukanya and Sanrakshak, alongside a fee concession for the wards of staff and alumni, all of them held for the whole duration of the programme rather than reapplied for each year. Only the categories are published there; the award amounts and the marks or sporting record that qualify for each are not, so what a Chancellor's award is actually worth against the published B.Pharm year has to be asked for in writing before you count on it.

Separately, the university has published a fee refund policy for the 2026-27 year, as notification number 17/2026, covering deductions, timelines and the withdrawal procedure. Read it before paying the first instalment.
