Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth,, Mumbai

Thane, Maharashtra Est. 2002 Official site Updated
NIRF University
#91

Padmashree Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth is the deemed-to-be university at Sector 7, Nerul, and NIRF placed it 91st among Indian universities in 2025. Search its fees and the listing sites will quote you figures that disagree with each other by lakhs, which happens because the Vidyapeeth prices each programme on its own page instead of publishing one fee table. Everything below is taken from those programme pages, from the fee notices its School of Medicine posts, and from the return the university filed with the Ministry of Education's ranking framework.

Overview

Nerul holds one campus running two very different halves. The clinical half is the older one: the School of Medicine was set up in 1989 and the School of Dentistry, ayurveda, nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy and allied health sit around it. The second half grew later and is not medical at all, covering the Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology for engineering, the Vijay Patil School of Management, and schools of law, architecture, hospitality, creative studies and public health. Architecture dates from 1992 and law from 2002 on the university's own account of its schools.

That mix explains most of what a candidate finds confusing about the place. A student applying to MBBS and a student applying to B.Tech are dealing with the same university but with almost nothing else in common: different entrance exams, different counselling authorities, fee schedules an order of magnitude apart and separate admission offices.

The Vidyapeeth's accreditation is settled. It reported a valid NAAC accreditation at a CGPA of 3.59, running from 09-11-2022 to 08-11-2029, in its NIRF 2025 return. Its deemed status also means it is not part of Maharashtra's state admission pool, which is the single fact that changes most about how a seat here is won.

One warning before any figure is used. The D. Y. Patil name is carried by separate universities in Pune and Kolhapur, and the fee, rank and placement numbers published under those names belong to those institutions. The one described here is at Nerul, Navi Mumbai, and files with NIRF under the code IR-O-U-0321.

Courses & Fees

Tuition is published programme by programme, and the spread is wide enough that a family budgeting from a single "DY Patil fee" figure will be wrong for almost every course.

B.ArchSchool of ArchitectureRs 3,50,000NATA
B.Sc. NursingSchool of NursingRs 3,00,000, plus Rs 50,000 in the first yearUniversity entrance test

Read the table as a range and the point lands: annual tuition runs from Rs 3,00,000 for B.Sc. Nursing up to Rs 10,00,000 for BAMS, and the medical courses sit above even that. The B.Tech figure is one number for one branch, so a candidate weighing artificial intelligence, cyber security or electronics against computer engineering should ask each branch page rather than assume the rate carries across.

MBBS is the exception to the whole pattern, and deliberately so. Its charges, along with the MD and MS schedule and a stipend statement, are posted as signed notices on the School of Medicine fee-structure page rather than on the course page. Those notices are the binding document, they carry a dean's signature and a date, and they are the thing to open before accepting any MBBS fee quoted second hand.

The Vidyapeeth also does more of its own fee support than a reader would guess. Among students in the five-year undergraduate band, its NIRF return records 373 receiving full tuition reimbursement from institution funds and none from a state or central government scheme; in the four-year band the split is 333 from institution funds against 47 from government. Support here comes from the university's own pocket far more often than from a public scholarship.

Admissions

There is no single door. The entrance a candidate needs is decided entirely by which school they are applying to, and getting that wrong is the most expensive mistake available at this address.

Medicine, dentistry and ayurveda run on NEET-UG. Because the Vidyapeeth is deemed rather than state-affiliated, its seats are allotted centrally: the enrolment checklist the School of Dentistry publishes requires a NEET rank letter, a NEET admit card and a provisional allotment letter, and names the Medical Counselling Committee and the Dental Council of India as the bodies whose requirements those documents satisfy. A Maharashtra candidate does not reach a seat here through the state CET rounds.

Engineering works nothing like that. Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology accepts four different entrance scores for the same B.Tech seat, MHT-CET, JEE Main, the SAT or its own DYPRAIT-ET, and asks for a pass in HSC with physics and mathematics at 45% in the qualifying subjects taken together, with 40% for disability candidates from Maharashtra. Diploma holders need 50% and may enter directly in the second year.

Management admits on a built score rather than a single paper. The MBA in Finance asks for a bachelor's degree in any discipline at 50%, then combines graduation marks, an aptitude test and a personal interview, with an entrance exam score described as optional but recommended. The remaining schools each set their own bar, and two of them screen with a paper of their own. B.Sc. Nursing wants 45% across physics, chemistry and biology and a minimum age of 17, then selects on merit in a university entrance test carrying 20 marks each for nursing aptitude, physics, chemistry, biology and English, with 50% to qualify. B.Arch is the one course here tied to a national test that is neither NEET nor an engineering paper: the Council of Architecture standards it follows require NATA alongside 50% in physics, chemistry and mathematics. The five-year law course wants SSC and HSC at 45% aggregate, relaxed to 40% for SC and ST candidates, while BBA and B.Pharm name no entrance test at all on their pages. Doctoral entry is through the university's own entrance test, announced through its admission notifications.

Cutoff

The Vidyapeeth publishes no closing rank of its own, and for several of its courses there is none to publish. A BBA or B.Pharm place turns on qualifying marks with no entrance test named on the programme page, so the eligibility percentage printed there is the only threshold in writing. Architecture and nursing do screen without ranking: B.Arch admission runs on NATA under the Council of Architecture standards, and B.Sc. Nursing on a university paper that qualifies at 50%, but neither school publishes the score at which a seat actually closed.

Medicine and dentistry do have a real closing number, but the Vidyapeeth is not the body that sets it. What gates an MBBS or BDS seat is the NEET-UG rank at which the deemed and central round runs dry, and that is decided round by round in the Medical Counselling Committee allotments, moving with how many higher rankers surrender their places. A previous year's closing rank for this college is a bearing, not a threshold.

Engineering sits awkwardly between the two, because a single B.Tech seat can be claimed with an MHT-CET, JEE Main, SAT or DYPRAIT-ET score. Four scales feeding one seat means no one closing rank describes the intake, and the institute publishes none.

Placements

The Vidyapeeth reports outcomes to the government by programme length rather than by course, so the bands below mix disciplines, and reading them without knowing what sits inside each band is how the misquotes start.

Batch graduating in 2023-24Graduated in stipulated timePlacedMedian salaryWent to higher study
PG, three-year programmes290239Rs 13,15,00038
UG, five-year programmes843712Rs 10,50,00092
UG, four-year programmes1,4031,187Rs 7,50,000196
Five-year integrated PG3028Rs 7,70,0002
UG, three-year programmes1,3961,284Rs 6,35,000112
PG, two-year programmes748647Rs 6,25,00081

The two highest medians belong to the long professional courses. Three-year postgraduate programmes are where the MD, MS and MDS residencies sit, and the five-year undergraduate band takes in dentistry, ayurveda, architecture and the integrated law degree, so those rows describe qualified professionals entering practice rather than a campus hiring season. Read against an engineering or management offer they are not like for like.

The four-year band is the one an engineering applicant should read, and on the same filing it records 1,187 of 1,403 graduates placed at a median of Rs 7,50,000, with a further 196 going on to study. That is a placement share above 80% on a batch of real size, and it is a median rather than an average, so a handful of large offers cannot lift it.

Two cautions before setting a brochure figure beside these. Averages and highest-package claims are not comparable with a median and should never be swapped for one. And what the schools publish themselves is a recruiter roll rather than an outcome: Ramrao Adik names CISCO, NCR, Oracle, TCS, Capgemini, Accenture, Deloitte, Cognizant, Tech Mahindra, EY and Nomura among its top recruiting companies without a branch-wise placement share or salary spread beside them, so ask the school for its own numbers.

Seat Matrix

Sanctioned intake is published in the same government return, again by programme length. For the 2023-24 academic year it approved:

Programme lengthSanctioned intake, 2023-24
UG, three-year programmes1,510
UG, four-year programmes1,430
UG, five-year programmes860
PG, two-year programmes756
PG, three-year programmes294
Five-year integrated PG30

Nothing splits those totals by course or by category, so a candidate cannot read an MBBS or a computer engineering intake out of them. For medical and dental places the authoritative split arrives each cycle in the Medical Counselling Committee's seat matrix; for every other school it lives with that school's admission office.

Super-speciality seats are the one place the Vidyapeeth has published a course-wise count itself, though the notice is dated. Its 2020-21 super-speciality fee notice listed 12 seats in total, split as 4 in DM Cardiology, 2 each in DM Nephrology, M.Ch Urology and M.Ch Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and 1 each in M.Ch Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgery and M.Ch Paediatric Surgery. Treat it as a picture of the DM and M.Ch shape rather than a current matrix.

Rankings

One NIRF table carries this university and it is the general one. In NIRF 2025 it ranked 91st among universities with an overall score of 48.41, and the five parameter scores behind that number are unusually uneven.

NIRF 2025 parameterScore out of 100
Graduation outcomes75.80
Teaching, learning and resources68.51
Outreach and inclusivity65.03
Perception37.07
Research and professional practice8.29

A university that scores 75.80 for graduation outcomes and 8.29 for research is telling a candidate two very different things about itself in the same table. This is an institution that gets students through their degrees and into work, and that has almost no measured research standing to set beside it. Its own return is consistent with that reading: it records 251 sponsored projects worth Rs 21,91,89,897 received from 90 funding agencies in 2023-24 and no sponsored projects at all in the two years before, which is a research base that has only just begun to form.

Worth noting for a medical applicant: despite running a medical school and a dental school, the Vidyapeeth does not appear in the NIRF 2025 medical or dental ranked tables. Any medical or dental NIRF rank found under the D. Y. Patil name belongs to a different institution.

Departments

The Vidyapeeth is organised as schools rather than as academic departments, and each keeps its own faculty, admission bar and fee. Its schools directory lists:

  • School of Medicine, offering MBBS, MD and MS
  • School of Dentistry, offering BDS and MDS
  • School of Ayurveda, with industry tie-ups including Dabur India, Shree Dhootapapeshwar, Millenium Herbals, Emami, Marico and Charak Pharma
  • School of Nursing, offering B.Sc., Post-Basic B.Sc. and M.Sc. Nursing
  • School of Physiotherapy, School of Occupational Therapy and School of Allied Health Sciences
  • School of Pharmacy, offering B.Pharm and Pharm.D
  • School of Public Health
  • Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology, offering B.Tech, M.Tech and doctoral work in five specialisations
  • School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics
  • Vijay Patil School of Management, approved by the UGC and AICTE
  • School of Law, recognised by the Bar Council of India and the UGC
  • School of Architecture, recognised by AICTE, the Council of Architecture, the state technical education directorate and the Government of Maharashtra
  • School of Humanities and Sciences, School of Creative Studies, School of Hospitality and Tourism Studies, School of Sports, Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, and the School of Online

The practical use of that list is triage. Find the school first, then the programme page, then that school's admission office, because none of the three is shared across the university.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The campus at Nerul runs to more than 72 acres on the university's student life account, which is what allows a hospital, an engineering institute and a management school to sit on one site instead of scattering across the city.

The library is the facility most worth checking in person. The School of Medicine describes a central library covering 4000 square metres, open around the clock, holding over 20,000 text materials alongside online journals, and serving a school of more than 2,000 students. Two lines in the NIRF return show what a campus of that shape costs to keep stocked: Rs 40,49,11,379 went into the library as capital spending in 2023-24, and a much larger Rs 80,94,64,122 into new laboratory equipment, the second figure being what running medical, dental and engineering laboratories on one site demands.

Access around a site this size is worth asking about before an offer is accepted, because a hospital block, an engineering institute and a management school are a long way apart on foot. Wheelchairs, walking aids and transport from one building to another are all recorded as provided in its NIRF filing, which also puts lifts or ramps past the 80% mark of the built stock, and accessible toilets at that same level. For a candidate who needs any of that daily, the third answer is the one to confirm at the admission office, because it covers the walk between a hospital wing and a lecture block.

Hostel

Accommodation is available and it is charged separately from tuition, but the Vidyapeeth has not put a current hostel rate on its programme pages. The most recent figures it has published sit in old notices on its admission notifications page: a hostel fee of Rs 2,10,000 a year with a Rs 50,000 deposit in the MD and MS notice for 2021-22, and Rs 2,30,000 a year with the same deposit in the super-speciality notice for 2020-21.

Both are several cycles old and should be treated as a floor for planning rather than a quote. A candidate holding an allotment should ask the school for the current year's residence charge in writing before signing, because at these tuition levels a hostel line of two lakh or more materially changes the first-year outlay.

Faculty

Teaching strength is one of the better-evidenced things about the university. It entered 1,365 faculty members in its NIRF 2025 submission, and that scale is what carries its teaching, learning and resources score of 68.51, the second highest of its five parameters.

Doctoral supervision is the other half of the picture and it is growing faster than the research score suggests. Full-time registration dominates the doctoral programme, 795 candidates to 111 part-time in the same filing, and completions have moved with it: 88 full-time doctorates awarded in 2021-22, then 162 in 2023-24, alongside 41 part-time awards in that latest year. No school-wise faculty count is published, so the staffing for a specific programme has to come from that school directly.

Notable Alumni

There is no verifiable roll of distinguished graduates to set out here. The university runs an alumni association and cites a large alumni body on its own pages, but no independently traceable list of named graduates and their records is published. The D. Y. Patil name sits on a stadium, on schools and on separate universities in Pune and Kolhapur, so a distinguished graduate found beside it online frequently belongs to one of those and not to Nerul, which is exactly why an unchecked list would mislead more than an empty one does.

News & Articles

Announcements are split across two places rather than gathered into one feed. Admission notices, fee schedules, stray vacancy notices and entrance test notifications go up on the admission notifications page, while examination and doctoral entrance dates are posted separately by the examination section. The practical consequence is that a candidate tracking an MBBS fee revision or a stray-vacancy round has two university tabs to keep open rather than one, and neither of them is a coaching-portal digest.

College Compare

Against other private deemed universities in the Mumbai region, the Vidyapeeth's distinguishing feature is breadth on one site: a medical and dental school, an engineering institute and a management school inside a single deemed university, with the accommodation and fee consequences that follow.

Three comparisons decide whether that breadth is worth its price. First, put its published per-programme tuition against the equivalent course elsewhere, remembering that its own courses range from Rs 3,00,000 to Rs 10,00,000 a year before the medical schedules. Second, compare the median for the relevant programme-length band, Rs 7,50,000 for four-year undergraduate courses on its NIRF filing, with the course-wise medians a rival files. Third, weigh the research parameter honestly: at 8.29 it is the weakest part of this university's profile, which matters a great deal for a doctoral or research-track applicant and considerably less for a professional undergraduate degree.
