National Institute Of Agricultural Extension Management, Hyderabad

Ranga Reddy, Telangana Est. 1987 Official site Updated
NIRF Management
#95

A commerce or engineering graduate with a strong CAT percentile cannot apply to the MANAGE Hyderabad PGDM at all. The National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management takes its Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Agri Business Management) only from candidates holding a four-year bachelor's degree in agriculture or an allied science, and the CAT score then decides where an already-eligible file sits in the queue: its 2026 admission policy gives that score 55 marks out of a 100-mark selection total. The programme is fully residential and costs Rs 9,75,000 across two years. The institute's own submission to the national ranking framework puts the median salary of the batch that finished in 2023-24 at Rs 11,59,828, which is the number to weigh that fee against.

Overview

MANAGE is a training body for India's agricultural extension system that also runs one business programme, and reading it the other way round leads applicants astray. It was set up in 1987 as the National Centre for Management of Agricultural Extension by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, elevated to national institute status in 1992 and renamed, and it launched the PGDM (ABM) only in 1996. Its everyday work is short-course training, research studies and scheme implementation for extension officers across the states.

That parentage shows up in the governance. The institute states in its AICTE filing that it has no affiliating university, being a standalone institution under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare approved by AICTE, with a Governing Council headed by the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and an Executive Committee headed by the Secretary (Agriculture). A candidate comparing it to a private business school is comparing a diploma-granting institute inside a government department with an autonomous society, and the fee, the intake and the calendar all behave accordingly.

The campus is at Rajendranagar in the Ranga Reddy belt south of Hyderabad, on 17 hectares holding the academic block, the hostel block, sports facilities and residential blocks. Rajendranagar is India's agricultural-research quarter in Hyderabad, and the address is part of what the programme sells.

Courses & Fees

Two postgraduate diplomas run here, and they are built for opposite audiences. The PGDM (ABM) is the full-time residential programme that screens on CAT percentiles; PGDAEM is a distance diploma for people already working as extension functionaries, delivered through state training institutes.

ProgrammeDurationModeEntry routeFee
PGDM (Agri Business Management)2 years, seven trimestersFull-time residentialCAT score, then essay, group discussion and interviewRs 9,75,000 in total
PGDAEM (Agricultural Extension Management)1 year, two semestersDistance, with contact classes at state institutesSponsored through the employing department, or direct for private candidatesRs 20,000 for a private candidate

The PGDAEM fee is genuinely small because most of it is paid by somebody else. Under the Extension Reforms Scheme the Government of India sponsors 60% of the course fee for general states, 90% for the North-Eastern and three Himalayan states and 100% for the union territories, with the state share released to the state training institutes. A government candidate who fails to finish within two years has the Rs 20,000 recovered from salary.

The figure that gets misquoted is the PGDM one. Listing sites often print Rs 4,05,000, which is the tuition line alone; because the programme is fully residential, boarding is not optional and not extra in the ordinary sense.

Fee head, PGDM (ABM) 2026-28Amount for two years
Tuition feeRs 4,05,000
Boarding and lodging, twin-sharingRs 4,94,000
Other heads, including the refundable depositRs 76,000
TotalRs 9,75,000

Those other heads are billed annually and are individually small, and the Rs 76,000 line also carries the caution deposit, so the deposit is inside the Rs 9,75,000 total rather than added to it.

Annual chargeAmount per year
LibraryRs 10,000
Digital learningRs 5,000
Health insuranceRs 2,000
Computer and internetRs 15,000
Student welfareRs 1,000

Two more lines sit outside the total. Tuition is payable in two instalments of Rs 2,02,500, at enrolment and at the start of trimester five, and boarding in six instalments; and an optional short exposure programme at a foreign university ranges from around Rs 2.0 lakhs to Rs 5.0 lakhs depending on the university chosen, payable by the student who opts in. Blazers, a laptop and summer-project accommodation are also on the student.

The academic shape is worth reading before the fee. The diploma runs 112 credits over seven trimesters, with trimester four given entirely to a ten-credit summer project, and specialisations offered in finance, marketing, procurement and analytics for a student who averages 75% across five courses in that area. Course titles are agriculture-specific rather than generic management ones: rural banking, commodity derivatives and risk management, agri warehousing, post-harvest management, agricultural export management.

Admissions

Eligibility does more work here than the entrance test. The 2026 admission policy asks for a bachelor's degree in agriculture sciences or an agriculture-related discipline with at least 50% marks, relaxed to 45% for SC, ST and PwD candidates, and it insists the degree entail a minimum of four years of study after class 12. Horticulture, veterinary science and animal husbandry, fisheries, forestry, sericulture, dairy technology, food technology, agricultural engineering and agricultural information technology all count as related disciplines; a three-year BSc or a general degree does not.

The test requirement is narrow and singular. A valid CAT score is mandatory, the scorecard has to reach MANAGE by 10 February 2026, and the institute confirms in its AICTE filing that admission for 100% of the seats is only through CAT and other tests are not considered. There is no institute test, no XAT or CMAT window and no management quota, since MANAGE is a government institution.

Shortlisted candidates come to the Rajendranagar campus for essay writing, a group discussion and an interview, and the final merit list is arithmetic on six inputs.

Selection parameterWeightage out of 100
CAT score55
Essay writing05
Group discussion12
Personal interview17
Work experience05
Academic record06

Read the CAT line precisely, because it is scaled rather than absolute: a candidate's marks are their CAT score divided by the highest CAT score in the applicant pool, multiplied by 55. The academic record split is 2 marks for class 12 and 4 for graduation, and work experience earns a mark a year up to five for relevant experience only. Applying costs Rs 600, or Rs 200 for SC and ST candidates.

Cutoff

The number MANAGE publishes is a shortlisting percentile, not an admission threshold, and its own disclosure says so in as many words: the cutoff is the minimum level for calling a candidate to interview. Clearing it gets an applicant into the essay, group discussion and interview room; the seat is settled later, on the 100-mark scheme.

CAT percentile for shortlisting2025-262024-252023-24
General656570
EWS656570
OBC, non-creamy layer606065
SC202020
ST202020

Two things follow from that table. The general and EWS bar came down after the 2023-24 cycle and has held since, which lines up with the intake being enlarged in the same period. And the SC and ST line sits far enough below the others that, for a reserved-category agriculture graduate, the interview stage rather than the test is where this admission is genuinely won or lost.

Placements

The institute reports its own placement record two ways, and the gap between them is the useful part. Its prospectus states that the maximum CTC offered to the 2023-25 batch was Rs 21 LPA and the average was Rs 12.38 LPA, and the AICTE filing extends that to three batches.

Final placement CTC2023-252022-242021-23
MaximumRs 21.00 LPARs 20.00 LPARs 20.00 LPA
AverageRs 12.38 LPARs 12.33 LPARs 12.16 LPA

The ranking submission reports medians instead of averages, and medians are the more honest read of what a middle-of-the-batch student took home.

Batch graduating inGraduated in stipulated timePlacedMedian salary
2021-226666Rs 10,35,000
2022-236666Rs 11,59,282
2023-246563Rs 11,59,828

Two of those three years are fully placed, and the most recent one records 63 of 65 graduates placed with two going on to higher studies, which is a small qualification on the hundred percent placements since inception line the programme page carries. The prospectus is blunter than the website on this point and says outright that placement assistance facilitates employability and that MANAGE does not guarantee placements.

Who hires is the more distinctive fact. The recruiter list runs to agri-input, seed and crop-science firms, agri-tech and commodity businesses, food companies, banks and consultancies: Bayer Crop Science, Coromandel International, Corteva Agriscience, Godrej Agrovet, Syngenta India, UPL, Olam Agro India, ITC-ABD, Britannia, MTR Foods, Arya.ag, Ninjacart, Vegrow, Dehaat, HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank, Samunnati, ICRISAT, EY, KPMG India, Grant Thornton and PwC India all appear on it. A student who wants a general consulting or BFSI career is competing for a thin slice of that list; a student who wants agri-input sales, procurement, rural banking or an agri-tech supply chain role is looking at the whole of it.

The fourth trimester is a placement channel in its own right. Companies come to campus in October and November to pick students for summer projects of eight to ten weeks, and a voluntary winter internship in October gives second-year students a second window.

Seat Matrix

The intake grew recently and by a large fraction. MANAGE records that 100 seats were sanctioned from 1996 to 2024 and 120 from 2024 onwards, so an applicant reading advice written before that change is reading a smaller programme than the one now admitting.

Reservation applies as it does across central government institutions, covering OBC non-creamy layer, EWS, SC, ST, PwD and Kashmiri migrant candidates. The filed category-wise admissions show how that lands in practice.

Category admitted2025-272024-262023-24
General363420
OBC394235
SC181815
ST998
EWS181722

The cohort those seats produce is nationally drawn and not local. Across both years on campus the ranking submission counts 220 students, 143 men and 77 women, of whom 184 come from outside Telangana and 130 are from socially challenged categories. For a programme run by a central ministry inside a state capital, that outside-state share is the number that tells an applicant what the classroom will feel like.

Rankings

MANAGE is ranked 95th in the NIRF 2025 management category on a score of 45.48, and the shape of that score is more informative than its position.

NIRF 2025 management parameterScore out of 100
Overall45.48
Teaching, learning and resources72.82
Research and professional practice7.23
Graduation outcomes67.62
Outreach and inclusivity76.59

Teaching and resources at 72.82 is the highest of any institute placed near it, and outreach at 76.59 is strong, both consistent with a well-funded government campus running a small batch with a wide regional and category intake. The two low numbers are structural rather than accidental. Research and professional practice at 7.23 reflects a teaching faculty whose research output is filed by MANAGE as an extension-training body rather than through a business-school publication record, and the perception score of 2.90 is at the floor of the table, which is what happens to a specialist institute that recruiters inside agribusiness know well and the wider MBA market has never heard of.

Departments

There are no departments in the business-school sense, and the faculty organisation reflects the institute rather than the programme. MANAGE runs eleven centres and a school of agri-business management, among them the centre for agricultural extension policy, public-private partnership in extension and the international centre of excellence, and the centres for ICT in agricultural extension management, gender in agriculture and nutritional security, supply chain management and marketing, secondary agriculture and farmer producer organisations, sustainable agriculture and climate change adaptation, agri-institution building, knowledge management and agribusiness management.

That structure is why the teaching is not confined to management subjects. A student takes marketing strategy and corporate finance from the same institution that writes national extension policy briefs, and the trimester five and six electives on agri warehousing, commodity derivatives and agripreneurship draw on centres that exist to serve state extension systems rather than to staff a classroom.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The academic footprint is small and specified, which is what a 120-seat programme needs rather than a sprawling one. The AICTE filing lists four classrooms, two of 200 square metres and two of 350, three seminar halls, an examination hall seating 250, a computer centre with 25 desktops across 251.39 square metres, and 226 desktop systems on the campus network, served by a 1 Gbps leased line with a 100 Mbps backup and campus-wide wi-fi.

The library is the part built for this subject specifically. It holds 14,700 books, titles and journals, 37 print journals and more than 13,000 online journals in 400 square metres, and it subscribes to the statistical databases an agribusiness dissertation actually needs: Statista, Indiastat, the EPWRF India Time Series, CMIE Prowess and CMIE Commodities. Commodity coursework is hard to do without the last two, and few institutes at this rank carry them.

Sport and campus life are provided rather than promised. The filing lists squash, a gym, badminton, table tennis, billiards, chess and carrom indoors, and lawn tennis, volleyball and basketball outdoors, and the institute reports that it generates 50% of its power through solar energy. A health centre with a medical officer sits on campus.

Hostel

Residence is a condition of the programme, not an option, which is why boarding is inside the headline fee. MANAGE runs one boys hostel with 140 beds and one girls hostel with 47 rooms, both on double occupancy, with a medical officer available at the campus health centre.

The cost and the rules both bear reading before an applicant accepts a seat. Boarding and lodging come to Rs 4,94,000 over two years, billed as Rs 97,000 at enrolment, Rs 75,000 each in trimesters two and three, Rs 97,000 in trimester five and Rs 75,000 each in trimesters six and seven, and staying in the hostel during the summer project or the vacations is charged separately at MANAGE's approved rates. The published norms of discipline require students to be back on campus by 10:15 pm, bar entry to the other hostel, and reserve the management's right to inspect rooms.

Faculty

The teaching body is a government cadre that also teaches, and the two ways MANAGE describes it are both accurate. Its faculty page lists directors, deputy directors, assistant directors and academic associates by their administrative designations, with portfolios like agricultural extension, agri-business management, agricultural marketing, ICT, climate change adaptation, monitoring and evaluation and gender studies.

The ranking submission recasts the same people in academic ranks, listing 19 teaching faculty, of whom 18 hold a doctorate: six professors, five associate professors, five assistant professors and three filed under other, with recorded experience running from 19 months at the newest end to 330 months at the longest-serving. MANAGE states a permanent faculty to student ratio of 1:15 and an average teaching load of about two sessions a day, and it supplements the core group with adjunct faculty and with practising managers brought in through its industry interface.

There is a trade in that arrangement worth naming. A faculty member who spends much of the year running national training programmes and consultancy for state departments brings live field material into a classroom, and files fewer journal papers than a full-time management academic, which is exactly what the research score in the ranking table reports.

Notable Alumni

No verified list of MANAGE alumni with employer and designation attached is published, so none is reproduced here. The institute runs an alumni cell that organises chapters in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore, a homecoming event, a webinar series and a "MANAGEites in the spotlight" feature, and it maintains a separate alumni association site, but the campus pages record convocation medal winners rather than career records.

Given the programme launched in 1996 and admitted about a hundred students a year for most of that span, the network an applicant is joining is small, specialised and concentrated in one industry. That concentration is worth more inside agribusiness than a larger, more scattered network would be, and worth considerably less outside it.

News & Articles

The 2026-28 admission cycle is the live item. Applications closed on 10 February 2026, and the prospectus dates the essay writing and personal interview at MANAGE, Hyderabad to April 2026 and the announcement of results to April or May 2026; the admissions page is now publishing the third round of selected and waitlisted candidates for the batch, which is the page to watch if you are on a waitlist rather than any secondary source.

Two structural changes sit behind that cycle. The sanctioned intake moved from 100 seats to 120 in 2024, and the National Board of Accreditation letter now published on the programme page runs to 2028, so both the size of the batch and the accreditation status a 2026 entrant graduates under are settled rather than pending.

College Compare

Rank neighbours are the wrong comparison for a specialist institute, and the right one sits well above MANAGE in the same table. The Institute of Rural Management Anand is ranked 54 on a score of 53.34 in the same NIRF 2025 management table and is the other Indian institute whose management programme is built around agriculture and rural enterprise, which makes it the real alternative on an applicant's list.

NIRF 2025 managementRankOverallTeaching and resourcesResearchPerception
Institute of Rural Management Anand5453.3467.8223.8011.69
Institute of Management Technology, Hyderabad7249.3868.8418.577.73
National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management9545.4872.827.232.90

The table says something an overall rank hides. MANAGE teaches with more resource per student than either comparator by the framework's own measure, and loses the overall position on research and on reputation. IRMA is open to graduates of any discipline and admits on CAT, XAT or its own test; MANAGE is open only to agriculture graduates and only on CAT. For a candidate who holds an agriculture degree, that eligibility wall cuts the competing pool down sharply, and it should weigh more heavily in the decision than the gap in rank positions does.

Admission queries go to the PG cell rather than to the institute's general helpline, and offline applications go by speed post or courier to the Head and Principal Coordinator, PGDM (ABM) at the Rajendranagar address. The campus sits in the Ranga Reddy district south of the city, sharing the Rajendranagar precinct with the agricultural university and several central agricultural research institutes.

Verified

Approvals & Accreditation

Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.

The PGDM (ABM) carries the approvals that matter for a diploma with no university behind it, and MANAGE publishes every letter rather than a summary of them. Its programme page hosts the AICTE approval letters year by year, the current one for 2025-26, alongside the National Board of Accreditation letters, the latest covering 2025 to 2028, and the Association of Indian Universities recognition letters. The AICTE filing records the diploma as accredited by the National Board of Accreditation and lists the institute's AICTE identifier.

Of those letters, the AIU one does the heaviest lifting, and it is also the one an applicant has to date. Where a doctoral admission or a government recruitment rule is written around a master's degree, an AICTE diploma gets through on the strength of AIU equivalence alone, and the prospectus states plainly that the PGDM (ABM) holds the AIU certificate declaring it equivalent to the MBA degree. The most recent AIU letter posted on the programme page covers 2022 to 2025, where the NBA one already runs to 2028, so check the AIU section for a renewed letter before you rely on the equivalence for a 2026 entry. The institute also carries an ISO 9001-2015 certification and treats that periodic audit as its internal quality assurance mechanism.

There is no NAAC grade and there will not be one, because NAAC assesses universities and affiliated colleges and MANAGE is neither. Any NAAC letter quoted for this campus is a listing-site error rather than a document.

Scholarships

MANAGE funds merit directly rather than discounting fees. Its AICTE filing records 20 merit scholarships of Rs 1 lakh per student per year, an outlay of Rs 20 lakhs, for eligible students, and in the same filing it reports no fee waivers granted at all. So roughly one student in six on a 120-seat batch can expect institute money, and the rest pay the published fee in full.

The borrowing route is spelled out too. The prospectus records that MANAGE is one of the 860 quality higher educational institutions recognised for the PM-Vidyalakshmi scheme, the central scheme offering collateral-free and guarantor-free education loans, and that it also facilitates loans through public-sector banks, with repayment resting entirely on the student.

Voices

Student Reviews

No star rating for MANAGE appears here, because none exists that would survive being checked. The institute runs a student feedback system for the PGDM (ABM) behind a student login, so what current students say goes to the programme office rather than into public view, and the ratings circulating on listing and coaching portals are self-selected samples of a batch small enough that a handful of posts can set the number.

There is a better route, and the size of the programme makes it practical. A batch of this size on a residential campus is reachable: the PG cell and the placement cell both publish direct numbers, the alumni chapters meet in five cities, and one honest conversation about the winter internship, the specialisation cutoff or how many of the recruiters on the brochure actually made offers this year is worth more than any aggregate score.
