Goa Institute Of Management

North Goa, Goa Est. 1993 Official site Updated
NIRF Management
#43

Goa Institute of Management charges one academic fee, Rs 21,45,000, across all four of its full-time PGDMs, then decides who gets a seat on a published formula in which the entrance score is worth 40 marks out of a hundred and the interview day another 30. The flagship batch that finished in 2026 averaged Rs 16.27 lakh a year.

GIM is not a university and issues no MBA degree. It awards a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, approved by AICTE and carried on the Association of Indian Universities' equivalence list, and that single structural fact changes how every fee and placement number below should be read.

Overview

GIM opened on 2 August 1993 with six faculty members, a single programme, an intake of 24 students and rented classrooms at Salgaocar Law College in Miramar, on the institute's own record of itself. The GIM Society was registered as a non-profit the following year and teaching moved to a heritage building at Ribandar near Panaji, where the annual intake was raised to 120 by 1995. The campus applicants meet today dates from 2010, when the institute left Ribandar for a 50-acre fully residential site at Sanquelim in the Sahyadris.

The address is a real source of confusion, and both versions in circulation are official. GIM's own history places the 2010 move at Sanquelim, and the Ministry of Education's NIRF 2025 management table records the same city; the contact page gives the postal address as Poriem, Sattari, Goa 403505, the village the campus actually sits in. Either way, this is inland North Goa in the Western Ghats foothills rather than the coastal strip the state's name suggests, and every full-time programme is residential rather than commutable.

The award itself is the question most applicants arrive with. GIM's accreditations page records AICTE approval of the PGDM and an Association of Indian Universities ruling that the diploma is equivalent to an MBA degree. Around that award the institute now runs six academic programmes with over 90 full-time faculty members and an annual intake of over 900 students, on its about page.

Courses & Fees

Four full-time PGDMs share one campus, one fee and one selection process. The flagship is general management; the other three are sector programmes in healthcare, big data analytics, and banking, insurance and financial services. What actually differs between them is intake, and that is the number worth reading, because it tells you how many people are chasing each door.

One caveat sits over that whole fee column. Every figure GIM publishes is labelled for the 2026-28 batch, and its admission overview states that applications for 2026-28 are closed; the cycle now open is for the batch commencing June 2027, whose fee the institute has not yet posted. Treat the Rs 21,45,000 on the fees page as the most recent published price rather than as a quotation.

The full-time fee is collected in four instalments between March 2026 and June 2027, not as two annual payments, which matters if you are timing a bank disbursal against it.

Instalment 2October 2026Rs 5,30,000
Instalment 3June 2027Rs 10,75,000
Total academic feeRs 21,45,000

Two smaller amounts sit outside that schedule. A refundable caution deposit of Rs 25,000 is taken on joining, and Rs 5000 of it is retained at graduation as GIM Alumni Association membership, per the same page. The room you get changes with seniority: first-year students are allotted double occupancy and second-year students single occupancy.

Admissions

The window is short and the whole calendar is published. Applications close on 4 January 2027, the Achiever's Round runs that same month, regular-round interviews and admission results fall in February, and the academic year begins in June 2027, on the contact page's date list.

To be considered at all you need a bachelor's degree at 50% aggregate and one live entrance score: XAT 2027, CAT 2026, or a GMAT written between 1 January 2025 and 15 January 2027. A final-year candidate can apply on 50% in the latest examination, with the bar dropped to 45% for SC and ST candidates, per the PGDM admission process page. BDA applicants also sit the GIM Analytics Aptitude Test, a 75 minute online multiple-choice paper set by the institute itself and scheduled for 31 January 2027, per the admission overview.

One administrative quirk saves candidates a step, and GIM's own FAQ answers it with a flat no: the institute does not accept exam scores from candidates. It collects CAT and XAT scores from the IIMs and XLRI directly, and asks GMAC to send GMAT results under institute code 6VN-62-51 by 31 January 2027, per the admission process page.

Shortlisting then runs on two tracks. The Achiever's Round reads the profile first and sets the CAT, XAT or GMAT score aside until later, and it opens to programme-specific credentials: CA, CS, CMA, CFA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or FRM; an MBBS, BDS, BPharm or biotechnology degree from selected institutes; a B.Com or Economics honours degree from selected institutes; or an engineering degree plus at least 24 months of full-time work in specified companies, on the same page. It also opens to achievement of a plainer kind, and the institute's own examples are a national hockey player, a class 12 school topper and a star performer in a recent appraisal. Those interviews are held in three cities only, Delhi, Goa and Kolkata. Everyone else goes to the Regular Round; both tracks end in an online Written Aptitude Test and a personal interview, and an Achiever's Round score is carried forward if it does not produce an offer there.

There is no management quota and no reservation category, and the institute states flatly that no donation in any form is sought or accepted in connection with admission. The application fee itself is tiered by date under the labels First Mover and Early Bird, and GIM's FAQ says a candidate who waits until the last day pays roughly twice what an early one does, so the calendar carries a price of its own.

Cutoff

GIM publishes no closing percentile, for any of the four programmes, and none of its admission pages carries one. The only proof that an internal qualifying score exists at all is buried inside a concession: the admission process page states that the qualifying cut-off score of the competitive exam may be lowered by up to 15 points for candidates of Goan domicile or origin, on documentary evidence. A threshold that can be lowered is a threshold that exists. GIM simply does not print it.

Read that clause narrowly, because GIM words it narrowly. There is no reserved quota for Goan candidates, and the relaxation buys nothing beyond a call to the face-to-face evaluation, after which the same 40, 30, 15, 10 and 5 weightings apply to everyone. Domicile means a Goa government certificate, or ten years of documented residence, education or employment in the state, or fifteen years for a parent. Origin means birth in Goa for the applicant, a parent or a grandparent, or a certified share in ancestral property in Goa used as the family's residence or business premises, on the same page.

For everyone else the planning assumption is that the score buys a reading, not a seat. Forty per cent of the selection score comes from the exam, so a mid-band percentile attached to a real academic or professional record stays in contention, and a high percentile attached to nothing else is not home.

Placements

Each of the four programmes publishes its own report, and read side by side they say something the specialisation labels do not: the four averages land within a lakh of each other. What separates the programmes is the ceiling, the size of the cohort, and which companies make the trip to Sanquelim.

Programme, batch of 2024 to 2026Highest CTCAverage CTCMedian CTCCohort sizeCompanies on campus
PGDMRs 35 LPARs 16.27 LPARs 15 LPA284110+

PGDM (BIFS)Rs 28.60 LPARs 15.34 LPARs 14.45 LPA6141
Sources: PGDM, HCM, BDA and BIFS placement reports

The flagship report carries the deepest detail. Alongside the Rs 16.27 lakh average it records 50 pre-placement offers and an average of Rs 20.68 lakh across the top 100 students, in the PGDM report, which is the figure to weigh if you expect to finish in the upper third rather than at the median. The same report puts financial services at 25.38% of offers, information technology at 15.91%, banking at 12.88%, and consulting and FMCD or FMCG at 12.50% each, so more than half the batch went into money or technology rather than into general management.

The recruiter lists are where the four programmes stop looking alike. Among the 110+ companies on campus for the flagship, the report names SAP, JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo, Deloitte, Johnson & Johnson and Aditya Birla Capital, in the PGDM report. Healthcare drew a far shorter and more specialised list, with Johnson & Johnson, Bain & Co, Philips, Intuitive, Cochlear, BSV and Zydus across medical devices, health tech and pharmaceuticals, in the HCM report. Analytics drew Deloitte, EY, JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, Accenture, Fractal Analytics and Tiger Analytics into titles like data scientist, analytics consultant and AI decision science analyst, in the BDA report. BIFS drew Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Wells Fargo, Barclays and Moody's Analytics, in its own report.

The class that produced those numbers was not the engineering monoculture the sector labels might suggest. In the flagship cohort 30% came from engineering or technology, 21% from management, 19% from commerce, 15% from arts and law and 13% from science, and 46% joined as freshers with no work experience at all, in the PGDM report.

Summer internships are quoted separately and priced for two months. For the batch running from 2025 to 2027 the highest stipend was Rs 3,00,000, the average Rs 1,06,307 and the median Rs 1,00,000, against a batch strength of 300 and 47 recruiting companies, in the same report.

Set that highlight sheet beside the return GIM files with the government and the picture cools. Its India Rankings 2025 entry reports 413 students finishing in the minimum stipulated time in 2023-24, of whom 380 were placed and 24 went on to higher studies, at a median salary of Rs 14,40,000 for the placed. The previous year's entry on the same form reports 451, all 451 placed, at a median of Rs 15,00,000. Across those two filings the median fell and full placement stopped being full, which is movement no single season's highlight sheet is built to show.

GIM also puts its final placement numbers through an audit and posts the certified files programme by programme, and the archive is deeper for some than for others. The audited placement reports page holds HCM and BDA back to the 2020-2022 batch but the flagship PGDM and BIFS only to 2021-2023, and its most recent entries are labelled 2024-2025 rather than 2026, which puts the figures in the table above one season ahead of the audit that will eventually cover them. Where an audited file exists for the year you care about, that is the one to open.

Seat Matrix

There is no category-wise seat matrix here to read, and that is structural rather than an omission. GIM fills its own seats through its own process, and its admission process page confirms there is no reservation and no management quota to allocate against, so the only seat figures on the record are a programme-wise intake and a government-recorded sanctioned strength.

The submitted roll is where the class takes its shape. Across both years GIM counted 1003 students, 690 male and 313 female, with 93 drawn from within Goa, 910 from other states and none from outside the country, in the NIRF submission. A campus in a Sattari village turns out to hold a national cohort, which is also why the residential requirement is not a formality. The same return puts 79 of those students in the economically backward count and 74 in the socially challenged one. Full tuition reimbursement reached 11 of them through state or central schemes and 23 through GIM's own funds; the remaining 119 got none.

Rankings

The Ministry of Education's NIRF 2025 management ranking places GIM 43rd on a composite of 55.27. The five parameters underneath are a long way apart, and the institute's own data return explains most of the distance.

NIRF 2025 parameterGIM's score
Graduation Outcomes83.63
Teaching, Learning and Resources76.24
Outreach and Inclusivity68.80
Research and Professional Practice24.67
Perception13.89

Teaching resources at 76.24 on that table is the parameter money buys most directly, and the government filing shows with what: GIM spent Rs 4,44,27,782 on library books, journals and e-resources in 2023-24 alone, against Rs 3,70,96,578 the year before. Research and professional practice at 24.67 on the ranking table is the score the same submission accounts for in much plainer counts: seven sponsored projects worth Rs 61,79,009 and 15 consultancy projects worth Rs 2,02,69,744 in the 2023-24 financial year, 27 full-time doctoral students on the rolls, and a single doctoral graduate that year. Those are workmanlike numbers for a school of this size, and thin ones against the research volume of the institutes at the top of the table.

The same return records an executive-education arm on a different trajectory: 34 management development programmes in 2023-24 with 1118 participants, against 26 programmes and 643 participants the year before, in the filing.

Perception, at 13.89, is the lowest of the five by a wide margin, and it is a survey of employers and academic peers rather than a measurement of anything happening on campus. Read next to a graduation outcomes score of 83.63 on the same table, it says the placement report will travel further than the name does: a recruiter who has never met a GIM graduate is being asked to take the diploma on its numbers.

Departments

Facilities & Infrastructure

Everything happens on one 50-acre site, and nine hostels housing over 800 students make it fully residential in practice as well as on paper, on the institute's campus page. Because both years live in, the hostel is not an optional add-on to price against a city school's rent.

The library is what the academic day runs on. It holds 24800+ management and related books, provides access to 50,000 online journals and 103 hard copies of global management journals, and stays open around the clock, on the same page. The database list behind it runs to Bloomberg and Thomson Reuters terminals, CMIE, EBSCO, ProQuest, Indiastat, EPWRFITS, JSTOR, ScienceDirect and Indian Business Insight, which is what decides whether a BIFS or BDA student can actually do the work the syllabus sets.

Three specialist labs back the sector programmes, on that page. The finance lab carries Thomson Reuters Eikon, Bloomberg, CMIE, Capitaline, a CRISIL fund analyser and a stock price ticker; the data science lab runs cloud-based training on real datasets with Microsoft Azure, SAS, Tableau and Power BI; and a behavioural lab provides a controlled setting for management research. Sport and recreation cover two lawn tennis courts, a football field, basketball and volleyball courts, a gymnasium and a swimming pool, with a round-the-clock canteen and an on-campus provisional store. Mental health support is staffed rather than only outsourced: a psychiatrist and two counsellors are named on campus, alongside a partnership with the online counselling provider YourDOST.

Accessibility is reported to the government rather than advertised. Asked in its NIRF submission whether the buildings carry lifts or ramps, GIM answered yes for more than 80% of them, and yes again for specially designed toilets in more than 60%. Its campus page adds that some hostels carry additional accessibility features for students with special requirements.

Faculty

GIM's about page puts the teaching strength at over 90 full-time faculty members, grown from the six the institute opened with in 1993, while its 2025 government filing entered 108 faculty members. The two counts come from different filings and different dates, so the safe reading is a full-time faculty comfortably above 90.

The faculty directory is not split into departments. It is split into academic areas, and the areas map onto what GIM actually sells: Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Strategy & Consulting, General Management & Public Policy, Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management, Information Technology & Operations Management, Healthcare Management, and Big Data Analytics. The last two are the tell. A school running its sector PGDMs on visiting specialists would not need standing areas for them, and Big Data Analytics is in fact the largest single area on the list, staffed with full professors and associate professors rather than adjuncts.

Dr. Ajit Parulekar is the Director. The founder was the late Fr. Romuald D'Souza, and GIM's about page still frames the institute in his terms, as built on academic excellence, ethical leadership and societal relevance, with a stated mission of developing responsible and agile leaders.

Approvals & Accreditation

Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.

GIM's accreditations page sorts its credentials into accreditations, recognitions and memberships, and the dates on the first group are the part worth checking, because accreditation expires. AACSB accredited the institute in 2025 for a six-year term. AMBA and BGA first accredited it in 2022 and reaccredited it in 2025 for a further 5 years. SAQS, the South Asian Quality Assurance System, accredited it in 2018 and reaccredited it in 2024 for six years. The National Board of Accreditation entry on the same page carries no date.

Two national recognitions sit under that block, and they are the ones that answer the degree question: AICTE approval of the PGDM, and the Association of Indian Universities ruling that the diploma is equivalent to an MBA. The page separately records EFMD, GBSN and, since 2011, PRME memberships. If you are weighing an exchange term or an application abroad later, the AACSB, AMBA-BGA and SAQS marks are the ones that carry; if you are weighing an Indian employer or a further Indian degree, the AICTE and AIU lines are.

Aid

Scholarships

Aid at GIM is a published list of named awards with fixed counts rather than a negotiation, and every one of them is worth Rs 5,00,000. Each is paid in two halves, and the second half depends on maintaining a CGPA of 5.6 or above and on conduct, per the fees and financial aid page.

GIM-MBBS ScholarshipPGDM (HCM)7Rs 5,00,000MBBS degree holders admitted to the healthcare programme

A full tuition fee waiver runs alongside those on entirely different logic. It is open to students whose family income is below Rs 8 lakh a year, capped at 5% of the students admitted and awarded on assessed financial need; for the 2026-28 batch the tuition component being waived is Rs 13,80,000, on the fees page, which is nearly three times an ACCESS award. The two do not stack, because winning the waiver automatically withdraws the ACCESS scholarship, so an eligible candidate should work out which one they are likelier to get rather than budget for both. The same page lists loan tie-ups with seven banks and lenders, Bank of India up to Rs 25,00,000 and Canara Bank up to Rs 30,00,000 among them.

Voices

Student Reviews

No rating appears here because no verified one exists. The star figures that admission listing portals attach to GIM are gathered from whoever types, with nothing tying the rater to a batch at Sanquelim, and the institute publishes no audited satisfaction score to set against them. Reproducing one would hand an unchecked number the weight of a finding.

A single GIM score would also average away the thing that actually decides an applicant's two years. The flagship cohort is nearly five times the size of the healthcare one, each programme runs its own placement season under its own chair, and the sector programmes are taught by their own standing faculty areas. GIM publishes a named programme office, a programme chair and a direct email address for each of them on its contact page, which is the practical route to someone who can answer for the programme you are actually applying to.
