Sri Padmavathi Mahila Visva Vidyalayam, Tirupathi
Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam finished 60th on the national pharmacy ranking in 2023, again in 2024, and again in 2025. The position never moved. The score underneath it did, from 45.93 to 46.63 to 49.12 across those same three tables. What sits behind that frozen number is a state university at the foot of the Tirumala hills that admits women and nobody else, runs the state's law and doctoral entrance tests for the higher education council, and fills its pharmacy seats through two entirely separate doors.
Overview
The Andhra Pradesh legislature wrote this university into existence with a single purpose Act, and the Act names in its own title the only people it may teach. It was founded in 1983 by Sri N. T. Rama Rao, then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, under the Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam Act of 1983, which came into force on the 14 of April 1983, and it opened with ten faculties, 300 students and twenty staff members, according to the university's own account of itself. The campus runs to 129.85 acres of a semi urban site and sits 3 km from the Tirupati railway and bus stations.
Who may enrol is the institution's constituting purpose rather than a preference, and the filings show it holding without exception. In the data Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam submitted in its overall NIRF 2026 filing, the four enrolment rows for 2024-25 count 314 students on three year undergraduate programmes, 1,756 on four year ones, 324 on five year ones and 1,641 on two year postgraduate ones. The male column reads zero in all four. The university puts the same rule in its own words when it opens a programme, inviting applications from the eligible women candidates in its doctoral admission notification. The doctoral roll in the overall filing carries 163 full time and 232 part time scholars.
Andhra Pradesh has also handed this campus the job of running state level entrance tests for everybody else: the Andhra Pradesh Research Common Entrance Test and the AP LAWCET and APPGLCET are both conducted by Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati on behalf of APSCHE. A university that admits no men therefore runs the law entrance test that men across the state sit.
On the 2025 national tables the university appears three times and only once with a rank attached. Pharmacy gives it 60. Its other two appearances are bands, 51-100 among state public universities and 151-200 among universities, both recorded on its own ranking page.
Courses & Fees
Teaching is organised into four schools, School of Sciences, School of Social Sciences Humanities and Management, School of Nursing and School of Engineering and Technology, with the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology alongside them, and the university describes 26 departments running postgraduate diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, M.Phil and doctoral programmes. Sanctioned intake for 2024-25, as filed with the Ministry of Education in the overall NIRF 2026 submission, leans heavily to the postgraduate end.
| Programme group | Sanctioned intake, 2024-25 |
|---|---|
| Undergraduate, three year | 100 |
| Undergraduate, four year | 416 |
| Undergraduate, five year | 60 |
| Postgraduate, two year | 816 |
Fees are where this university is hardest to pin down. There is no fee page on the site, no campus prospectus with a fee annexure, and nothing at all published against B.Pharm or M.Pharm. What a state authority publishes is a college fee column in its counselling sheets, reissued for each admission year: for the 2023 cycle the Andhra Pradesh council's AP EAPCET 2023 last rank details reads 71250 against each of the three branches then listed under the institution code SPMUSF. Read that as one cycle's figure and not a standing rate, because the council has revised the column since and the university has since fixed its own fees by signed proceeding for the B.Tech batch admitted in 2026-27, with a matching order for M.Tech, both posted as scanned images on the engineering school's admissions page. Open them before you budget: the first year total is well above the later ones, because admission, library, caution deposit and career counselling heads all fall due once, in year one.
Alongside allotment order and rank card, a student joining the engineering school on an EAPCET or ECET seat must bring an income certificate and a ration card, per the documents list for admissions, because for most students here the fee question is answered by state reimbursement rather than by the fee itself. For an exact figure against a named programme, the Directorate of Admissions is the only authority: 0877-2284592, or admnspmvv@gmail.com, on the university's contact page.
Admissions
Every route in is closed to men, and the state's counselling paperwork enforces it rather than leaving it to the prospectus: in the council's AP EAPCET 2023 last rank details the coeducation column against SPMVV's engineering school reads GIRLS. The restriction bites where seats are allotted, not only on a website.
B.Pharm runs through the state entrance. AP EAPCET is conducted by JNT University Kakinada on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, and its agriculture and pharmacy paper carries 160 questions, 80 in Biology split 40 Botany and 40 Zoology, 40 in Physics and 40 in Chemistry, with a floor of 45% in the qualifying examination, relaxed to 40% for reserved categories, under the 2026 instruction booklet. The institute's own page then puts the arithmetic on the record: it states that seats are allotted on EAMCET ranking in the ratio of 20:20 for M.P.C. and Bi.P.C. students, and that four D.Pharm holders are admitted directly into the second year of B.Pharmacy on an ECET rank, on the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology page.
M.Pharm is a different door with a different owner. APPGECET is conducted by Andhra University, not JNTU Kakinada, on behalf of the same council, and admission runs on a stated order of preference: candidates qualified in GATE or GPAT are placed first on their test scores, and only the seats left after that are filled from APPGECET merit ranks, per the 2026 APPGECET instruction booklet. Pharmacy is test paper PY in that examination, and the bachelor's degree floor is 50%, relaxed to 45% for reserved categories. The university's own eligibility line agrees on the 50% aggregate in B.Pharmacy and names a valid GPAT score or PGECET as the basis of admission.
Two further routes sit outside pharmacy. B.Ed and B.Ed Special Education (Hearing Impairment) are taken through APEdCET, and the department's programmes are recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education and the Rehabilitation Council of India, on the university's own account. Doctoral entry runs on two tracks. Candidates already holding a fellowship through UGC-NET, UGC-CSIR-NET, GATE or CEED apply directly to the Directorate of Admissions on a downloaded form with a registration draft, and are called for interview at Tirupati, per the university's doctoral admission notification. Everyone else comes through the APRCET that the university itself conducts for the state.
No weighting between entrance score and qualifying marks is published for any of these programmes, and no group discussion or personal interview stage appears anywhere in the pharmacy admission material. Treat any source that quotes one as unsourced.
Cutoff
For pharmacy there is no published closing rank, and the gap is specific rather than general. The state's 2023 last rank sheet does carry B.Pharm rows with their college fees for pharmacy colleges across Andhra Pradesh; it carries none for this university, whose only entries on it are engineering branches filed under SPMUSF. The Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology publishes category wise admission counts of its own, but only for 2017-18 and 2018-19, and no closing rank in any year. What governs a pharmacy seat here is the list the AP EAPCET convener releases after each round of allotment.
The engineering school does publish its closing ranks, category by category, and they are worth reading because the spread between branches is wide. These are the ranks at which the last seat went in each category in the EAPCET 2025 cut off list.
| Branch | OC | BC-A | BC-D | SC-III | ST | EWS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Computer Science and Engineering | 35289 | 85118 | 56989 | 67309 | 149235 | 47375 |
| Electronics and Communication Engineering | 46067 | 98302 | 100264 | 142982 | 144681 | 117535 |
| Electrical and Electronics Engineering | 140769 | 150104 | 138266 | 169770 | 158567 | 161758 |
| Mechanical Engineering | 82300 | 135514 | 150632 | 170949 | 161580 | not filled |
Three things stand out in that sheet. The scheduled caste column is split three ways as SC-I, SC-II and SC-III rather than being one column, which is the Andhra Pradesh sub classification working through into allotment. Several category cells carry a dash instead of a rank, meaning no seat was taken in that category at all, and BC-C is empty in every branch. And the three entrance routes rank three different pools, so they do not compare: within the ECET 2025 list in the same document, the open category lateral entry seat in electrical and electronics engineering closed at 92 and the computer science seat at 1486, while within PGECET 2025 the artificial intelligence and data science specialisation closed at 2462.
Placements
Pharmacy graduates here mostly do not take a job in the year they finish, and the university's own filings say so plainly. Of the 45 women who finished B.Pharm on time in 2023-24, more went back into a classroom than into a job, 25 to higher study against 16 placed, on the pharmacy data the institute filed for NIRF 2026. Postgraduate pharmacy behaves the opposite way: of 54 finishing in 2024-25, 45 were placed and none went on to further study.
| Pharmacy cohort | Graduated in minimum time | Placed | Median salary | To higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| B.Pharm, 2022-23 | 41 | 15 | Rs 218000 | 20 |
| B.Pharm, 2023-24 | 45 | 16 | Rs 250000 | 25 |
| M.Pharm, 2023-24 | 42 | 35 | Rs 320000 | 1 |
| M.Pharm, 2024-25 | 54 | 45 | Rs 330000 | 0 |
One row in that filing contradicts itself and should be read with care. For the undergraduate cohort of 2024-25, the same submission records 43 graduating and 23 placed, and enters the median salary as 300000 in figures while the words printed beside it read two lakh eighty thousand. Take that median as unsettled until the university corrects it.
Across the whole university the medians are higher and the cohorts far larger, though the postgraduate placement rate is much worse than pharmacy's. The four year undergraduate cohort of 2024-25 counted 413 graduating in minimum time, 285 placed at a median of 520000, and 69 going on to higher studies, while the two year postgraduate cohort put 284 of 744 into jobs at a median of 420000 and sent 350 to further study, on the overall NIRF 2026 submission. The placement cell's own page has posted nothing newer than its 2021-22 brochure, so the ministry filings are the current record and the placement pages are not.
Seat Matrix
Pharmacy intake is fixed by the Pharmacy Council of India, not by the university, and its decision letter names every specialisation. The institute is registered as PCI-919.
| Programme | Approved intake, 2026-2027 session |
|---|---|
| B.Pharm | 40 |
| M.Pharm, Pharmaceutics | 15 |
| M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Chemistry | 15 |
| M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Analysis | 15 |
| M.Pharm, Pharmacology | 15 |
| M.Pharm, Pharmacognosy | 6 |
Two seats in each master's specialisation are set aside for the economically weaker section, per the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology page. Branch wise intake for the engineering school, with its economically weaker section and lateral entry blocks, is published separately as a scanned proceeding on the engineering admissions page. One discrepancy is worth carrying into a counselling session: the postgraduate intake the university reported to the Ministry of Education for 2024-25 was 55, in its pharmacy NIRF 2026 submission, which is not what the council's specialisation wise approvals add up to. Ask the department which figure governs the cycle you are applying in.
Rankings
The pharmacy result is the only ranked position this university holds, and reading three years of it together is more useful than reading the latest one.
| NIRF pharmacy table | Rank | Score | TLR | RPC | GO | OI | Perception |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 60 | 45.93 | 66.50 | 25.31 | 53.21 | 56.99 | 20.45 |
| 2024 | 60 | 46.63 | 65.67 | 26.20 | 56.26 | 57.17 | 21.03 |
| 2025 | 60 | 49.12 | 67.86 | 28.28 | 61.52 | 58.82 | 20.98 |
Graduation outcomes carried almost all of the improvement, climbing from 53.21 to 61.52 across the three tables, with research and professional practice adding a smaller lift from 25.31 to 28.28. Perception went nowhere, 20.45 to 21.03 to 20.98, a swing of half a point over three years while every other parameter climbed. That is the honest reading of a stalled rank: the department got measurably better at the things the framework counts, and no better at all at being known.
The longer arc is less flattering than the recent one. The university's own ranking record puts it at 42 on the 2020 pharmacy table and 44 on the 2021 table, so rank 60 is a position it fell to rather than climbed to.
Departments
Facilities & Infrastructure
Housing decides whether a student from a distant district can attend at all, and the university reports ten residential facilities offering 24 hour secured accommodation to more than 3000 students, on its own description of the campus. Hall capacity, by contrast, is a number to check rather than trust: that same page puts the Indira Priyadarshini auditorium at 1200 seats, while the NAAC self study report gives the same hall 1000 and lists an auditorium of 950 elsewhere in the document.
Medical cover is unusually concrete. The health centre has been running since 1991, dispenses all prescribed medication free of charge, and works as a referral point to S.V.R.R.G.G. Hospital and SVIMS for anything needing a specialist. It also holds fixed specialist slots on campus: an ophthalmologist every Tuesday from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and gynaecologists from SVIMS on Mondays and Fridays between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
On the laboratory side, the School of Sciences runs a central instrumentation facility with equipment funded under DST-CURIE and an animal house approved by the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals, which is what makes in house pharmacology work possible. Recent capital spending backs that up: on academic resources the pharmacy institute alone recorded Rs 99,26,524 on library and Rs 6,08,96,706 on new laboratory equipment in 2024-25, against Rs 3,16,747 and Rs 78,01,850 the year before, in its NIRF 2026 submission. Patents published by the department went from 8 in 2023 to 14 in 2024, with 7 granted.
Hostel
Faculty
The pharmacy faculty is senior, long tenured and almost entirely female. The staff table in the NIRF 2026 pharmacy submission lists 29 people, of whom 19 are on regular appointments: 11 professors, 3 associate professors and 5 assistant professors. Only 2 of the 29 are men. Eleven of the 19 regular staff joined between 1996 and 2004 and are still in post, one of them with 468 months of recorded experience.
The faculty page on the institute's site names fewer people in post than the ministry filing does, and it lists among its retired staff a professor whose name and joining year match a member the filing records as still working. If faculty strength matters to your decision, take the filing as the record and ask the department to reconcile it.
University wide, the institution reports an academic staff of 105 supported by 131 academic consultants, and the School of Sciences alone accounts for 54 of the teaching posts across professors, associate professors and assistant professors.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
Three separate approvals govern this campus. The university carries an A+ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and an ISO 21001:2018 certification, both stated on its own masthead, with the certificate and the peer team report posted on its NAAC page. Its statutory standing as a university, together with recognition under sections 12(B) and 12(f) of the University Grants Commission Act, is documented on the university Act and statutes page.
The pharmacy approval carries a condition worth knowing. The Pharmacy Council of India extended approval for the 2026-2027 session, but its decision letter for the previous session gave the institution three months to submit teaching and non teaching staff as required by the B.Pharm and M.Pharm course regulations of 2014 and the minimum qualification regulations, directed that the staff be reflected on the institution's portal, and recorded a decision to inspect during the year. Approval was granted, and it was granted with staffing under review.
Aid
Scholarships
The university names no scholarship scheme of its own anywhere on its site, and there is no financial aid page. Its accreditation paperwork shows the support is real even though the branding is absent: metric 5.1.1 of the NAAC self study report records 3638 students benefiting in 2020-21 from scholarships and freeships provided by the institution, government and non government bodies, counted separately from the reserved category government schemes, against 3468 the year before and 3009 five years back.
In the pharmacy department alone, of 188 undergraduate students on the roll in 2024-25, 111 were receiving full tuition fee reimbursement from state and central government funds and a further 6 from private bodies, leaving 71 paying in full; among 111 postgraduate students, 101 were on full government reimbursement, in the pharmacy NIRF 2026 submission. The same pattern holds across the university, where the overall submission records 1,409 of 1,756 four year undergraduate students and 1,225 of 1,641 postgraduate students on full government tuition reimbursement. That is why the income certificate and ration card sit on the joining checklist: for the large majority here, eligibility for reimbursement is the fee decision.

Student Reviews
No signed review by a named student appears on this page, because none has been collected. What does exist is the university's own count of what its students said: 1094 of them answered its feedback questionnaire for 2020-21, rating 26 items across course content, infrastructure and skills gained, in the feedback analysis it publishes itself.
Read by that survey, the teaching is the strong part and the network is the weak one. Depth of the course content drew 49.54% excellent ratings and 0.09% unsatisfactory ones, the highest share of excellent anywhere in the set, while internet facility drew 22.85% excellent and 10.33% unsatisfactory, the poorest score on the sheet by a distance, in the same analysis. Drinking water, washrooms and canteens are the next weakest, and an action taken report sits beside each year's analysis on the university's feedback page.
