DIT University tells prospective students it runs at 94% YoY placements. The same university told the National Assessment and Accreditation Council that in 2023-24 it had 1,327 outgoing or final-year students and 484 placements of outgoing students. Both statements come from DIT. One is a count with a named leaving cohort under it; the other is a percentage whose base the brochure never gives, which is how the pair sit on the same website without either being withdrawn. Establishing which unit a DIT number is expressed in turns out to be most of the work on this university, so the fee sheets, the admission routes and the placement figures below are taken from what DIT signs and submits, and the brochure is read as a brochure.
Overview
Start with a discrepancy DIT has never reconciled on its own website. Its recognitions page states that DIT University has been established by Govt. of Uttarakhand vide Act No.10 of 2013 dated 15th February, 2013 and that it is empowered to award degrees as specified under Section 22 & 2(f) of the UGC Act. Its own prospectus gives the same day against a different Act year, describing the university as founded in 1998 by Late Shri Naveen Agarwal as the Dehradun Institute of Technology, recognized as an autonomous institution by the UGC in 2012, attaining university status on February 15, 2013, under the DIT University Act (Uttarakhand Act No. 10 of 2012). The date of university status is not in dispute; the year printed against the Act is. Ask the registrar's office which reading matches the gazette notification before you copy either onto a form.
The old name still turns up in regulators' registers and on aggregator listings, so check which entity a certificate or an approval was issued to before you count it. The university today describes itself as the flagship of the Unison group.
The address is Mussoorie-Diversion Road, Village Makkawala, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India, 248009, set on 21 acres on the Mussoorie side of the Doon valley. Three letters are all the current name gives you, and Dehradun carries more than one large private university, so name the campus whenever you write to anyone about admission: the institution at Makkawala is DIT University, and it shares neither a statute nor a campus nor a set of filings with Uttaranchal University or with Graphic Era. Scale, as reported to NAAC for 2023-24, is 5,747 students across 38 programmes and 14 departments offering academic programmes. The head of institution named in that report is Prof G Raghurama, Vice Chancellor.
Courses & Fees
Read a DIT fee sheet from the second line down, because tuition is only about two thirds of the bill. Every published structure splits the annual charge into a Tuition Fee and an Academic Services Fee, and only the first of those is what a scholarship can reduce. On the B.Tech Computer Science sheet for the 2026-30 batch, the first semester is a tuition fee of 1,19,550 and an academic services fee of 71,750. A student who wins a full merit award clears the first of those numbers and still owes the second, in every semester of the degree.
Each sheet is also printed twice over, once for the All India category and once for the UK State category, the second being the rate for Uttarakhand and other Himalayan-state domiciles. The figures below are the published annual totals.
| Programme, 2026 intake | First year, All India | Final year, All India | First year, UK State |
|---|---|---|---|
| B.Tech Computer Science & Engineering | 3,82,600 | 4,29,400 | 3,22,826 |
| B.Tech core branches | 2,36,600 | 2,60,300 | 2,00,426 |
| Bachelor of Architecture | 2,70,100 | 3,14,300 | 2,28,476 |
| Bachelor of Pharmacy | 1,97,800 | 2,15,400 | 1,67,976 |
| B.Sc. Nursing | 2,20,600 | 2,40,000 | 1,88,200 |
| MBA | 3,16,800 | 3,20,200 | 2,67,975 |
| Sources, in the same order: the university's published fee structures for B.Tech CSE, B.Tech core engineering, B.Arch, B.Pharm, B.Sc. Nursing and the MBA. The architecture degree runs five years, and its fifth-year figure is the one shown. |
The first cheque is larger than any row in that table. Every sheet adds, at admission, an admission fee of 10,000 that is non-refundable and caution money of 5,000 that is refundable. And several programmes carry a one-off industrial tour charge of 25,000, billed in a single later semester, which is why the third or fourth year on those tables is dearer than the year after it.
The catalogue behind the fee sheets is wide rather than deep in any one discipline: the eligibility schedule lists B.Tech across nine branches and their tracks, B.Arch, four design degrees, B.Pharm, the B.Sc. and B.A. families, BCA, B.Sc. Nursing, four allied health degrees, M.Tech, MBA, MCA, two M.Pharm branches, the M.Sc. and M.A. sets and doctoral programmes in eighteen disciplines.
Admissions
There is no single door. For its B.Tech programmes the university publishes four separate routes side by side: merit based counseling on rank of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE); direct admission for XII Std board toppers, 10% seats; merit based counseling on XII Std aggregate marks; and NRI or sponsored seats, 10% seats. A JEE score is one of the four and is not a precondition, which is the answer to the question DIT applicants ask most often.
Other programmes work differently, and the differences are not cosmetic.
| Programme | Published admission basis |
|---|---|
| B.Tech, all branches | JEE rank, XII aggregate, board-topper quota, or NRI/sponsored seats |
| B.Tech lateral entry | Diploma or B.Sc. percentage, or UKSEE score |
| Bachelor of Architecture | Aptitude test, NATA or JEE, with a pass in 10+2 PCM or a 10+3 diploma with Mathematics |
| B.Pharm | XII Std marks or UKSEE |
| B.Des, BCA, B.Sc., B.A., allied health | Merit based counselling on XII Std marks |
| B.Sc. Nursing | The merit of DITU Nursing Entrance Test 2026 |
| M.Tech Computer Science | GATE or UGC-NET holders go straight to interview; others sit DUET plus interview |
| MBA | CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT, UKSEE or DUET score plus group discussion and interview |
| M.Pharm | GPAT, DUET or UKSEE |
| M.A. Clinical Psychology and Counselling Psychology | Interview with the candidate |
| Ph.D. | GATE, SET or SLET holders go to interview; others take DUET then interview |
Press that schedule in two places before you rely on it. B.Sc. Nursing is the only programme for which DIT makes its own test compulsory rather than optional. And the management and pharmacy rows name DUET'2023, one of them shortened to DUET'23, a session label two cycles behind the 2025-26 heading at the top of the same page, so confirm the current test window in writing rather than reading a stale year as an open door.
Eligibility floors sit separately from those routes, and DIT's are unusual in one respect: it screens on Class 10 as well as Class 12 for its computing degrees. B.Tech Computer Science requires 60% in aggregate in the 10th Class examination and 60% in aggregate across Physics, Mathematics, English and one listed subject in 10+2, while B.Tech Information Technology sets both bars at 55% and the core engineering branches ask only for 50% in aggregate in 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. A candidate with a strong Class 12 and a weak Class 10 is eligible for mechanical engineering here and not for computer science.
Cutoff
DIT publishes no closing rank and no final qualifying percentage for any programme, and the two documents that would ordinarily carry one do not. Its UGC Mandatory Disclosure indexes the prospectus, the admission process and the fee structure and stops there, with the reservation roster row left empty. The notification for the 2026-27 admission counselling sets a single on-campus session, asks B.Tech applicants to bring a JEE Mains score card and B.Arch applicants a NATA one, and says only that the university follows a merit-based admission policy. An offer made across a table on one morning leaves no round-wise closing line behind it.
What exists instead is the eligibility floor plus the filed evidence on how hard seats are to get. DIT's own submission to the ranking framework records a pharmacy intake that has been sanctioned at 100 for the four-year programme in each of 2021-22, 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25, against which it admitted 100 students in 2019-20, 87 in 2020-21 and 81 in 2021-22. The engineering filing shows the same shape at a larger size, with first-year intake set at 780 in each of 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 and admissions of 670, 683 and 662. Seats that do not fill do not generate a cutoff. Treat the published eligibility percentage as the operative bar, and treat any rank quoted to you as a DIT cutoff as something the university has never printed.
Placements
DIT reports on placement in several places at once and they do not agree, so read them in order of how much scrutiny each has been through.
The quality report submitted to NAAC is the only one that counts the whole university. It records 484 placements of outgoing students in 2023-24 against 1,327 outgoing or final-year students, with 93 recently graduated students progressing to higher education. The previous year's report gives 520 placements against 1,334 outgoing students.
The ranking submissions break the same period up by school and add a median.
| Cohort graduating in minimum stipulated time | Graduated | Placed | Median salary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four-year engineering UG, 2024-25 | 610 | 386 | 4,50,000 |
| Four-year engineering UG, 2023-24 | 615 | 310 | 5,00,000 |
| Four-year engineering UG, 2022-23 | 662 | 233 | 5,00,000 |
| Two-year engineering PG, 2024-25 | 8 | 1 | 5,00,000 |
| Four-year pharmacy UG, 2024-25 | 64 | 18 | 4,20,000 |
| Two-year pharmacy PG, 2024-25 | 25 | 13 | 4,00,000 |
The engineering trend inside that table is genuinely good news and deserves saying plainly: placed numbers rose across three consecutive batches while the cohort size held roughly steady. The median moved the other way over the same period, which is what usually happens when a placement cell converts more students at the lower end of the offer range.
Then there is the brochure, which reports 94% YoY placements, a highest package of 58 lakhs at Palo Alto Networks, 1,565+ placement offers and 465+ companies visiting for placements. None of those four carries a batch year or a denominator, and an offer count is not a student count, since one student can hold several offers. The placement highlights page adds a second self-published aggregate, a doughnut headed Placements 2025-26 that divides the year across salary bands, above a Highest Placements panel setting named recruiters against their top offers. Both are flat images whose figures appear nowhere in the text of the page, and the doughnut never says what its percentages are a percentage of. An offer count and the quality report's 484 placements of outgoing students cannot be reconciled from outside, so find out which of the two units a school is quoting when it talks to you, and what denominator sat under it.
Seat Matrix
DIT publishes no branch-wise seat chart of its own, but it does report a total to NAAC, and the direction of travel is steep. The 2022-23 report records 1,665 seats available during the year against 16,680 eligible applications received for admissions to all the Programmes. One year later that had become 2,330 seats available against 19,424 eligible applications. Seats grew faster than applications.
The engineering side carries most of that expansion. Sanctioned undergraduate intake in the engineering filing runs 780 in 2021-22, 820 in 2022-23, 1,140 in 2023-24 and 1,405 in 2024-25. Pharmacy has not moved at all, holding 100 undergraduate seats and 30 postgraduate seats.
What the growth did to fill rates is not yet on the record. The admitted counts in that same filing stop at 2021-22, when 662 of 780 first-year places were taken, so the years in which the intake nearly doubled have no admitted figure published against them.
Reserved categories take a heavy bite out of that total. Seats earmarked for reserved categories under central or state rules went from 668 in 2022-23 to 912 in 2023-24. Separately, the scholarship policy states that 25% seats are reserved in all UG and PG programmes as per statutory requirements for permanent residents of Uttarakhand and other Himalayan states. Add the board-topper and NRI carve-outs of 10% each on the B.Tech side, and close to half the engineering intake is spoken for before general merit counselling begins.
Rankings
DIT holds exactly one national rank, and it does not hold it alone. India Rankings 2025 scores it 43.54 in Pharmacy, to two decimal places the same total as Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology in Nadia, so the two share 83rd place and the published list runs straight on to 85. Split that total into its five parameters and the pharmacy school inverts the profile a young private university usually posts. What it scores well on is the money and the reach it puts in, marked 62.88 for Teaching, Learning and Resources and 61.58 for Outreach and Inclusivity. What those inputs are meant to produce is where it loses: 32.34 for Research and Professional Practice, 38.19 for Graduation Outcomes, 11.79 for Perception. That is the profile a run of 7 placements from 67 graduates, and then 25 from 72, would produce.
Pharmacy is the whole of it, and the silence elsewhere is not for want of filing. The university's own NIRF page publishes Engineering and Pharmacy reports for 2024, 2025 and 2026, so engineering data has gone in for three consecutive cycles without a published engineering rank coming back. In pharmacy the position has slipped by two places, from 81st in NIRF 2024, in a category with 467 participating institutions, to 83rd.
The remaining honours are magazine surveys and global exercises the university summarises itself: #41 among India's Best Engineering Colleges in the Outlook-ICARE Rankings 2026, #37 among India's Best Young Private Universities and #12 among India's Best Engineering Private Institutes in the Careers360 Rankings 2026, and a placing in the 1201-1500th band in the 2026 THE World University Rankings. Two of the four are engineering placings, awarded to the school the ministry's own framework has never ranked. That mismatch is why the commercial tables sit on the recognitions page while the NIRF engineering return is filed away under IQAC.
Departments
Facilities & Infrastructure
DIT's library register runs to twelve separate counts, down to the rare books and the newspapers, and then reports exactly four e-databases. It lists 148,831 total books, 11,954 unique titles, 5,800 reference books, 18,855 e-books, 130 print journals and magazines, 3,097 electronic journals through DELNET, 131 PhD theses and 505 dissertations, spread across a central library plus separate architecture and civil collections. Four subscribed databases is thin cover for a university teaching engineering, pharmacy, management and allied health at once, so if your subject lives behind a paywall, ask which one of the four carries it before you enrol.
Teaching space and computing are reported to NAAC: 135 classrooms and seminar halls and 1,579 computers in the campus for academic purpose in 2023-24.
Residence is on campus and priced per year, separately from tuition. The published schedule is a hostel fee of 75,000, a mess fee of 79,500 and a laundry fee of 4,500, totalling 1,59,000, with a refundable hostel security of 5,000 on top; a room with an attached bathroom, offered only to girls, raises the hostel line to 90,000 and the grand total to 1,79,000. Transport is 22,000 for 10 months. Notice that the mess costs more than the room. Capacity is split across six named blocks, with boys' residences accommodating 1,200 and girls' residences over 1,000, while the dining halls seat over 600 boys and 400 girls at any given time, so mealtimes run in shifts. Wheelchair access is claimed but stops short of the whole site: answering the disability questions in its ranking return, the university puts lifts or ramps, and specially designed toilets, at more than 80% of the buildings, so the sensible question on a campus visit is which buildings sit in the remainder and whether your department teaches in one of them.
Hostel
Faculty
Staffing is close to full on paper. The 2023-24 quality report gives 262 full time teachers against 270 sanctioned posts, of whom 225 hold a PhD or equivalent, against the previous year's 247 teachers against 261 sanctioned posts with 219 doctorates. The pharmacy school's separate return to the ranking framework entered 39 faculty members.
Turnover is the thing those totals hide, and DIT's 2026 engineering filing exposes it in a way most universities never do: it names every teacher individually with a joining date, a leaving date where one applies, and a column recording whether they are currently working with institution. A long run of entries carry a 2025 leaving date. If continuity of supervision matters to you, that document is the one to read before you choose a department, and the question to ask a head of department is how many of the teachers on the current timetable were also on it two years ago.
Research is small but no longer static. Patent activity jumped in the most recent calendar year the engineering filing covers, to 84 patents published and 15 granted in 2024, where 2023 had produced 27 published and 2 granted. External funding peaked a year earlier, at 31,68,954 rupees from 4 funding agencies in 2023-24. Consultancy is close to non-existent on both sides of the campus: the engineering return records no consultancy projects and no client organizations in any of 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25, and the pharmacy school's best year is 2 projects for 2 client organizations worth 30,600 rupees in 2024-25. For a doctoral applicant the relevant record is thin at the top, with the pharmacy school reporting 3 full time and 36 part time PhD students to 2024-25.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
Institutional accreditation is real, first cycle, and already past the halfway point of its term. The quality report DIT filed with NAAC records the grade in a single line: Cycle 1, Grade A, CGPA 3.19, Year of Accreditation 2023, Validity from 08/07/2023 to 07/07/2028. Anyone starting a four-year or five-year degree now should expect the reassessment to fall inside their time on campus, and should ask what grade the university is preparing to defend.
Statutory approvals are programme-specific and DIT names three. The B.Sc. Nursing programme is approved by the Indian Nursing Council under Section 13 of the Indian Nursing Council Act, 1947, B.Arch is approved by The Council of Architecture, and the pharmacy programmes are approved by The Pharmacy Council Of India u/s 12 of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 for the purpose of registration as a Pharmacist. The same page records membership of the Association of Indian Universities and of the International Association of Universities, and recognition by the Nepal Engineering Council.
What the recognitions page does not claim matters as much as what it does. On technical education the university does not claim an AICTE approval; it argues instead that AICTE is the statutory body of the Government of India whose jurisdiction for granting approval is only for technical institutions, which are affiliated to a University. Universities are out of it purview. That is a legal position, not an approval. And no programme-level accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation appears anywhere on that page. Permission to teach a subject is a lower bar than an audit of how well that subject is taught, and DIT documents only the permission.
Aid
Scholarships
Almost everything DIT calls a scholarship is a percentage off the tuition line, awarded in the first year, and its published policy is unusually generous at the top. For B.Tech Computer Science the 2026-27 annexure sets 100% of first-year tuition for a candidate with 95% or above in the qualifying subjects, a 1st Rank Holder of any Board, or a JEE rank between 1 and 50,000, plus an additional scholarship of Rs. 20,000 in each semester for the entire duration of the course, then 50% for 90% to under 95% or a JEE rank of 50,001 to 80,000, and 25% for 80% to under 90% or a JEE rank of 80,001 to 1,00,000. Core engineering is priced lower and pitched wider, at 40%, 30% and 20% on bands reaching down to 60% in Class 12. A separate CUET ladder runs 15% at 70 to under 80 percentile, 25% at 80 to under 90, 50% at 90 to under 95 and 100% at 95 and above.
Domicile is the one award that lasts. Permanent residents of Uttarakhand and the other Himalayan states receive 25% on tuition fee, continuing for the entire programme duration, and the policy is explicit that a domicile certificate produced late is honoured from the next semester or academic year only, not retrospectively. That is already built into the UK State column of every fee sheet.
Smaller awards stack on top rather than compete: 10% for girl students who scored 80% and above in Class 10 and Class 12 aggregate, 5% for children of defence personnel with a further 5% for children of martyrs or gallantry medal awardees, 5% for a sibling, 5% for a DIT graduate continuing into a higher programme, and 5% for the child of a single mother earning under 6 lakhs a year. Sports awards are cash amounts rather than percentages, running to 50,000 a year at international level for B.Arch, B.Tech and MBA students, 25,000 at national level and 15,000 at state level.
What any of this is finally worth is decided in the small print. Merit, domicile and CUET are mutually exclusive and you take the higher of the three; continuing merit awards go only to the top 10% of each programme, split 30%, 20% and 10% within that group, and require a CGPA of 6 and above with no back paper; and a student who completed schooling from Open School or part-time is not eligible for the merit or CUET routes at all. Take-up is broad: DIT reported 3,606 students benefited by scholarships and free ships in 2023-24, up from 3,275 the year before.

Student Reviews
This page carries no star rating for DIT University, and inventing one would be worse than leaving the space empty. The university does run a student satisfaction survey. Its quality report answers the question asking where the results are published by pointing at its IQAC page rather than at a score, and the IQAC page offers a feedback form rather than an outcome. What DIT has actually put online is a scanned student feedback report for 2022-23, school by school, carrying a course-wise mean score against each subject. It is an image file with no readable text behind it, and the IQAC page does not link to it, so no figure can be lifted from it here. Ask your department for the current year's table instead.
One proxy is in the filings and it is a small number. Across 2023-24, DIT recorded 34 student complaints or grievances about evaluation against 5,291 students who appeared in the University examination, with only 8 revaluation applications during the year. That says the examination process is not generating widespread disputes; it says nothing about teaching quality, and it should not be read as if it did. The named committees a complaint can go to, including the student grievance committee, the internal complaints committee and the anti-ragging cell, are listed on the university's own site.
Campus
Gallery
Photographs of Makkawala are absent from this page for a licensing reason rather than an editorial one. The university publishes its own image gallery and a 360 degree virtual tour, and both are the right starting point.
What neither will answer is the question DIT's own numbers raise. The residences hold 1,200 boys while the dining halls seat 600 at a time, so go at a mealtime in term and watch how that works in practice.
