Guru Nanak Institute Of Pharmaceutical Science And Technology (diploma Pharmacy) Kolkata

North 24 Parganas, West Bengal Est. 2010 Official site Updated
NIRF Pharmacy
#85

One address in Panihati, on the northern edge of Kolkata, holds two pharmacy programmes that share a name and almost nothing else administratively. The diploma is affiliated to the West Bengal State Council of Technical and Vocational Education and Skill Development; the bachelor's and the master's branches are affiliated to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology. The Pharmacy Council of India writes that split into a single approval letter, and it decides which fee sheet, which merit list and which placement record has anything to do with you.

If you are weighing the Diploma in Pharmacy here, most of the numbers circulating under the GNIPST name were filed for the degree side.

Overview

Guru Nanak Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology, shortened to GNIPST on its own signage, sits in North 24 Parganas district on the Kolkata side of the district line. The state council's affiliation letter for the current session, memo number WBSCTVESD/TED/2025-26/AFF/DPH/0003 dated 05-01-2026, puts the campus at 157/F Nilgunj Road, Panihati, Sodepore, Kolkata 700114 and names Guru Nanak Educational Trust as the sponsoring body. The council writing that letter is a statutory body constituted under the West Bengal Act XXVI of 2013, inside the state's Department of Technical Education, Training and Skill Development.

What the diploma arm awards is a Diploma in Pharmacy, run over two years and four semesters. The institute describes it as a route to a licence rather than to a degree: a holder registers with a State Pharmacy Council and may then dispense, hold a retail or wholesale drug licence, or staff a hospital dispensary. Eligibility starts at Higher Secondary with Physics and Chemistry plus Biology or Mathematics.

Two pages on the institute's own site disagree about when the diploma began. Its about page dates the institution to 2005 and places the introduction of the D.Pharm at 2018 on a programme timeline, while the course page for the same programme stamps it 10+ years established and says GNIPST has offered it for over a decade. Nothing on the site reconciles the two.

GNIPST is self financed rather than government run: the council's own list of Diploma in Pharmacy institutes files it under code GNP as self financed, at the Nilgunj Road address. That word decides how reservation and fees work here.

Courses & Fees

The institute prices the whole diploma at Rs 1,83,700, on the same course fee sheet that carries every other programme, which is where most of the confusion about money here starts.

Diploma in Pharmacy, session 2026-2027Amount
Semester 1Rs 63,200
Semester 2Rs 40,000
Semester 3Rs 40,000
Semester 4Rs 40,500
Two year totalRs 1,83,700

Hostel is billed apart from that, on the same sheet, at Rs 6,500 a month payable half yearly plus a hostel admission fee of Rs 5,000. The sheet also warns that the structure may change on a West Bengal government notification, so treat the semester figures as the institute's current ask rather than a fixed two year price.

The rows above and below the diploma row belong to the degree arm. On that fee sheet B.Pharm runs to Rs 7,73,000 over four years and each of the seven M.Pharm branches to Rs 3,85,200, and the lateral entry line of Rs 4,64,200 for three years is a degree fee you would meet after the diploma rather than during it. That lateral route into the second year of B.Pharm is what the institute markets hardest on the diploma page, through the JELET examination.

One gap is worth knowing before you enrol. The syllabus page gives B.Pharm a dated regulation, Regulation 2021 applicable from the academic year 2023-24, and each M.Pharm branch Regulation 2020 from 2024-25. The D.Pharm entry carries no year at all, only the words as per PCI Education Regulations, and the file it links to is not on the server. The curriculum you would actually study is the one the state council prescribes, not one you can read off this institute's site.

Admissions

You do not apply to GNIPST for the diploma. You apply to the state council, which runs one online application for every affiliated D.Pharm seat in West Bengal and then allots you a college.

For the current session the council opened that application on the 24th of September 2025 and closed it on the 30th of October 2025, charging Rs 450, halved to Rs 225 for a valid Kanyashree enrolee, in a notification under memo WBSCTVESD/TED/2025-26/0833. Nothing in that sequence is an entrance test. The council's information brochure for the session states that admission is made on the basis of a merit list prepared from the marks a candidate obtained in the qualifying examination, and the council's separate merit list shows exactly that, with no test score column in it.

Three conditions in that brochure settle the application before merit does. You must have passed the 10+2 examination in the science academic stream with Physics and Chemistry plus either Biology or Mathematics. You must reside, or carry on the business or profession of pharmacy, in West Bengal. And you must have attained the age of 18 years as on 31st December 2025, the date the brochure fixes for this session.

The counselling calendar for the same session, notified on 27/01/2026, published the merit list on the 27th of January 2026, opened choice filling from the 28th to the 30th of January, made a first allotment on the 31st of January and a second on the 4th of February, and held the first spot counselling on the 9th of February, all of it on the council's portal at sctedved.wb.gov.in/polyadm. Admission happens at the institute only after the council allots the seat, and the brochure warns that a rank and an allotment together still settle nothing until the institute verifies your original documents.

JEXPO and VOCLET get attached to this course in conversation, and they are the wrong papers to sit. The council runs them for first and second year entry to its diploma courses in engineering and technology; pharmacy for this session is admitted on qualifying marks, and the brochure describes the entrance route in the past tense. GNIPST's own entrance examination page routes B.Pharm through WBJEE, JEE Main or its minority institutions portal, and routes the D.Pharm to the state council alone.

Cutoff

There is no closing rank for this college's diploma seats, and the reason is structural rather than an oversight. The council publishes one consolidated state merit list, and its list for the academic session 2025-2026 carries each applicant's Higher Secondary aggregate, their Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Mathematics marks, and their general, SC, ST, OBC and physically challenged ranks side by side. It does not carry a college against any of them.

Allotment against that list then happens inside the online counselling portal, and neither the counselling notification nor the brochure publishes an institute wise last admitted rank or a category cut off afterwards. The brochure also removes the usual appeal route, recording that there is no provision for post publication scrutiny or review of the merit list. Any GNIPST diploma cut off quoted to you as a percentage is somebody's estimate.

Placements

GNIPST maintains a decade of placement pages and not one of them belongs to the diploma. The 2026 record names 54 placed students, a highest package of Rs 6.33 LPA and a recruiter count it writes as 42 plus, and it prints B.Pharm as the batch stream on the page itself; the 2025 page lists 49 names with the same stream line. The archive reaches back to 2015, and the stream on each year's page reads B.Pharm, or B.Pharm and M.Pharm together. It never once reads D.Pharm.

The ranking submission adds nothing for a diploma applicant either. GNIPST's filing for India Rankings 2025 reports placement and higher studies for a four year undergraduate programme and a two year postgraduate one, with graduating cohorts of 116 and 83 in 2023-24 and median salaries of Rs 2,80,000 and Rs 4,24,000. Both are degree cohorts. No diploma row appears anywhere in the document, so no median, no placement percentage and no recruiter list has ever been filed for the course this page is about.

What the diploma carries instead is a mandatory clinical stint. The institute states on the course page that every D.Pharm student completes not less than 500 hours of practical training, spread over not less than three months, in an approved hospital, dispensary or pharmacy clinic after the final examinations. That is a Pharmacy Council requirement for the licence, not a placement.

Seat Matrix

Sixty is the number, and it has held steady. The state council's affiliation letter records an approved intake of 60 for the Diploma in Pharmacy in 2024-25 and again in 2025-26, and the Pharmacy Council of India's decision letter sanctions the same 60 admissions for the 2025-2026 session against the institution filed as PCI-791.

Course in the 2025-2026 PCI letterAffiliating body namedApproved intake
D.PharmState council60
B.PharmMAKAUT100
M.Pharm, each of seven branchesMAKAUT15

That table is the plainest statement of the two arm split anywhere in GNIPST's paperwork. One regulator, one letter, two different affiliating authorities, and the diploma is the only line that answers to the state council.

How the sanctioned intake breaks down by category is a question the brochure answers in the negative for this college. It reserves 22% of seats for Scheduled Caste candidates and 6% for Scheduled Tribe candidates, and a maximum of 5% of intake capacity for physically challenged candidates, in government institutions, with OBC-A and OBC-B as per prevailing government orders. GNIPST is self financed, so no category wise seat count for this campus follows from those percentages, and neither the council nor the institute publishes one.

Rankings

GNIPST is ranked 85 in the Pharmacy category of India Rankings 2025, with an overall score of 43.23, a teaching, learning and resources score of 67.65 and a research and professional practice score of 8.73. The institute reproduces that rank on its approvals page, and its about page records an All India Rank of 84 in 2022, a slide of one place over three editions.

The rank comes with a caveat that matters here more than at most colleges. The ranking table carries this institution under the identifier IR-P-S-10906, and 10906 is the code the All India Survey on Higher Education assigns to the diploma pharmacy entity at this address. The data filed under it, though, describes only the four year and two year degree programmes. The identifier points at the diploma arm while the scored submission leaves it out, so read that score as a measure of the degree and research side of the campus.

The institute's about page labels the rank NIRF Pharmacy 2026. No 2026 Pharmacy edition exists on the framework's site, where 2025 is the most recent published ranking.

Departments

Facilities & Infrastructure

The institute publishes its facilities as a set of downloadable guides rather than as a description, and the infrastructure page lists them by name: an instrument room, an auditorium, classrooms, a computer lab, a gymnasium, teaching labs, a language lab, a medicinal plant garden, a museum and an animal house, with pages of their own for the labs, the canteen and the library.

Two of those are worth more to a diploma student than the listing suggests. Pharmacognosy is one of the four papers the D.Pharm is built on, and a medicinal plant garden and a specimen museum are where that paper gets taught rather than read. The institute also says on the course page that laboratory practicals run in small batches so each student gets a workstation, and that the campus carries an e-corner with pharmacopoeias and journals over campus wifi.

None of it is scoped to the diploma. Every facility named is shared with the degree and postgraduate cohorts on the same floors, and the institute publishes no diploma dedicated laboratory, block or hostel allocation. Its photographs of the laboratories are unlabelled by programme.

Hostel

We could not find official hostel and accommodation details for Guru Nanak Institute Of Pharmaceutical Science And Technology (diploma Pharmacy) Kolkata. Check the official website for the current hostel facilities and fees.

Faculty

No faculty list exists for the diploma. The about page names the director, Prof. Abhijit Sengupta, and the principal, Prof. Lopamudra Datta, and the institute publishes faculty research and publication reports year by year, but nowhere does it say who teaches the D.Pharm papers or what they hold.

The only headcount on record is the 55 faculty members entered in the India Rankings 2025 submission, and that submission covers the degree and postgraduate profile rather than the diploma. Both regulators hold faculty data for this course that neither one publishes: the state council's affiliation is granted subject to a later inspection of academic facilities, and PCI's approval turns on biometric registration of teaching staff.

We could not find verified notable alumni for Guru Nanak Institute Of Pharmaceutical Science And Technology (diploma Pharmacy) Kolkata from a reliable source. We name people only when their record is traceable, so this stays empty rather than listing unverified names.

Verified

Approvals & Accreditation

Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.

Four bodies have a say at this address, and only two of them touch the diploma.

The diploma's licence to run is a provisional affiliation from the state council, renewed session by session. The 2025-26 letter grants it subject to inspection and attaches a condition most prospectuses never mention: at least six days of regular offline classes a week are mandatory for the affiliation to stand, and no online class is allowed. Deviation cancels it.

PCI approval is the second, and the decision letter extends it for the 2025-2026 academic session only, with an obligation on the institution to register its teaching faculty on the AEBAS biometric portal within three months. Both approvals are annual, so a diploma admitted in one session is studying under a sanction granted for that session.

Whatever NAAC says here, it says about the whole institution rather than about a two year diploma, and the date stamped on what it said has already gone by. The about page still shows a Grade B at a CGPA of 2.7 on the four point scale, valid through December 2025, and no renewed grade has replaced it on the site. NBA is narrower by design: the same page claims it for the B.Pharm programme alone. So one badge grades the institution rather than any single course, and the other names a course that is not this one.

Aid

Scholarships

The one thing the diploma's paperwork does for a scholarship applicant is satisfy a condition. West Bengal's Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship opens its diploma track only to courses approved by AICTE, PCI or the Council of Architecture and affiliated to the state technical council, per the scheme's entry on the Government of India schemes portal. A PCI approved, state council affiliated D.Pharm meets that description exactly, alongside a marks floor in the qualifying examination and a family income ceiling the portal sets.

A second saving is built into the admission itself. The council's application notification halves the form fee for a valid Kanyashree enrolee, from Rs 450 to Rs 225, and it is the only concession published at the admission stage for this course.

GNIPST does not publish a scholarship, freeship or fee waiver of its own for diploma students. Its fee sheet lists no concession heads, its admission pages mention scholarship schemes only as something to ask the office about, and no state or central award is named against the D.Pharm anywhere on the site.

Voices

Student Reviews

No rating for this diploma is published on Expertie. The only first person accounts the institute itself carries sit on its alumni page, and every one of them comes from a B.Pharm graduate of the 2026 batch describing a corporate offer, which is not the experience a diploma student is buying.

Ratings do exist under the GNIPST name on business listings and aggregator sites. They are attached to the shared Nilgunj Road address, which pools the degree college, the diploma arm and in some listings the group's other institutions on the same campus, so a star average found there cannot be read as a verdict on the two year course.
