Dibrugarh University, Dibrugarh
Nine of every ten seats in Dibrugarh University's five-year integrated postgraduate programme are filled on class 12 marks alone, and CUET-UG fills the other one. That rule decides how a school leaver actually reaches this campus, and it runs against what the national coverage of CUET would lead a family to assume. The major you pick then decides the bill as much as the seat: a semester of Assamese or Economics is charged at Rs 9,450 and one of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at Rs 30,200. Postgraduate entry works nothing like it: most master's seats here turn on the university's own paper, sat on an OMR sheet at one of eleven centres, from the campus itself out to Guwahati and Karbi Anglong.
Overview
Dibrugarh University calls itself the easternmost University in India, and it was set up in 1965 consequent upon the provisions of the Dibrugarh University Act, 1965, enacted by the Assam Legislative Assembly. It teaches on one campus and examines across a large affiliating network, which is the split that explains nearly every practical question about it. The campus sits at Rajabheta, five kilometres to the South of the Dibrugarh town on 550 acres, with National Highway No. 37 running through it.

How many colleges hang off that network is a question the university answers three different ways in three of its own documents, and the gap is worth knowing before you quote any of them. Its About page says the university hosts 177 affiliated colleges and institutes that spread over nine districts of Assam. Its 2026-27 admission brochure puts the figure at 169. The district-wise list it publishes for download, which is the only one of the three you can actually read college by college, runs to 166 entries, of which 111 hold permanent affiliation and the rest are temporary or permitted. If you are checking whether a particular college's degree is a Dibrugarh University degree, the downloadable list is the document to open, not the headline number.
That list also draws the university's real geography. Nine district headings run through Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji, and the two heaviest blocks under them are Dibrugarh district and Dhemaji, ahead of Jorhat and well clear of Tinsukia. Two further headings follow those nine. One is Karbi Anglong, holding a single government model college at Deithor. The other is headed Others, and it is the one worth reading twice: two Jorhat colleges teaching Sattriya music and performing arts, a women's science and technology college at Jugijan near Hojai in Nagaon district, and a run of management, mass communication and law institutes at Guwahati, several hundred kilometres outside the upper Assam belt and affiliated here rather than to a nearer university.
Courses & Fees
The campus first degree in the arts and sciences is not a BA or a B.Sc. It is the Five Year Integrated Post Graduate Programme, a single unbroken run from class 12 to a master's degree, offered in 18 major subjects. Ordinary three-year bachelor's teaching in those subjects happens in the affiliated colleges, not here. Alongside the integrated route the campus runs professional bachelor's degrees, two-year master's degrees, a long shelf of postgraduate diplomas and doctoral work, 90+ programmes in regular mode by the university's own count.

For the integrated programme the fee is printed in full, head by head, inside the admission brochure, and it splits the 18 majors into three bands that are nothing like each other.
| FYIPGP fee head, 2026-27 | Humanities, Social Sciences and Commerce | Science | Biotechnology and Bioinformatics |
|---|---|---|---|
| Admission fee | Rs 2,200 | Rs 2,200 | Rs 2,200 |
| Tuition or course fee, per semester | Rs 9,450 | Rs 10,500 | Rs 30,200 |
| Library | Rs 500 | Rs 500 | Rs 500 |
| Gymkhana | Rs 525 | Rs 525 | Rs 525 |
| Student aid fund | Rs 105 | Rs 105 | Rs 105 |
| Development | Rs 420 | Rs 420 | Rs 420 |
| Utility service, internet and electricity | Rs 500 | Rs 500 | Rs 500 |
| Sports board | Rs 135 | Rs 135 | Rs 135 |
| Students safety insurance | Rs 53 | Rs 53 | Rs 53 |
| Laboratory | Not charged | Rs 1,050 | Rs 2,100 |
| Total as printed | Rs 13,888 | Rs 15,988 | Rs 36,738 |
| Field or industrial visit, where applicable | Rs 3,000 | Rs 3,000 | Rs 3,000 |
| Endowment fee, one time | Rs 75,000 | Rs 1,00,000 | Rs 75,000 |
The first column applies to Assamese, Applied Psychology, Commerce, Economics, English, History, Political Science and Sociology; the second to Anthropology, Applied Geology, Chemistry, Geography, both branches of Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. Only the admission fee is a one-off; the course fee is charged per semester and the rest run to the schedule the brochure sets, yearly or half yearly. Biotechnology and Bioinformatics stands on its own for a reason printed under its table: it is a self-financed programme, and the brochure notes that the self financed programme shall not be covered under 50% fee relaxation provided by the Government. Picking it over any other major roughly triples the semester charge and forfeits the state relaxation the others can claim, which is a bigger consequence than the seat count suggests.
Beyond the integrated programme the picture is worse, because every other campus fee sits in one consolidated notification linked from the fee structure and refund policy page, and that notification is a scan of a signed paper table rather than a typed document, so nothing in it can be searched, copied or read by a screen reader.
Engineering escapes that because its numbers are repeated in ordinary text inside the counselling notifications. A B.Tech seat at DUIET costs an admission fee of Rs. 10,745.00 plus a first semester course fee of Rs. 50,000.00 at admission, and a candidate taking an endowment-category seat pays a one time Endowment Fee of Rs. 2,00,000 on top of that. One notification carries both schedules for the same counselling round, the ordinary one and the endowment-category one, so the two are decided together rather than in a later application.
Admissions
Three separate machines run here, and nothing you learn about one applies to the next. The undergraduate integrated programme is applied for on a state portal, most master's programmes turn on the university's own test, and engineering is counselled on a split of two entrance exams.
Start with the integrated programme, because it is the door a school leaver uses. Applications are made through the Assam Higher Education Admission Portal rather than to the university, and the admission modalities then split the intake two ways. 90% of the total seats in each Department of Dibrugarh University shall be filled up on the basis of merit in the (10+2) examination, and the remaining 10% of the seats go on CUET-UG performance in the relevant discipline. Biotechnology and Bioinformatics is carved out of even that: admissions will be done only on the basis of merit in 10+2 Examination. A candidate eligible under both criteria is admitted under the marks criterion, never the CUET one.
The eligibility floor is a percentage rather than a rank. Candidates need a minimum of 60% of aggregate marks or equivalent grade in (10+2), reduced to 55% for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD candidates, and ties are broken first on the marks scored in the subject chosen as the major and then on the class 10 aggregate. Because merit is prepared centrally against a stated order of preference, the subject you list first matters more here than at a university where each department admits on its own.
Most postgraduate entry belongs to the Dibrugarh University Admission Test, and where DUAT applies it is not optional: for all candidates, appearing in DUAT 2026 is mandatory, whichever university awarded the bachelor's degree. Read that line against the subject list it sits with rather than as a blanket rule. DUAT 2026 carries every M.Sc and M.Com subject the campus teaches, most of the MA list, M.Ed, MCA and MTTM, and it also carries lateral entry into the fourth year of the integrated programme, which is how a student who has successfully completed 6th Semester of FYUG/Integrated PG Programme under NEP 2020 with minimum 60 Credits in the subject applied for joins the seventh semester here after three years elsewhere. Four master's degrees sit outside it: the MBA in either mode, the MSW, the M.Lib.I.Sc and the MA in Performing Arts. Each of those is notified separately on the university's admission page, and the MSW runs a written entrance test of its own.
| DUAT 2026 | Detail |
|---|---|
| Paper | Single subject paper, 100 marks, 2 hours, 100 objective questions of 1 mark |
| Mathematics paper | 150 marks, 2 hours, 75 objective questions of 2 marks |
| Negative marking | 0.25 mark per wrong answer, 0.5 in Mathematics |
| Mode | OMR sheet, evaluated electronically |
| Test centres | 11 |
| Subjects a candidate may take | 4, and no more than one from the same shift |
| Online application | 07 May 2026 to 28 May 2026 |
| Result | By 15 July 2026 |
| Validity | Academic session 2026-27 only |
Two details in that table cost people seats every year. The four-shift structure quietly rules out some combinations, because Mathematics and Chemistry are scheduled in the same shift and so are Physics and Statistics, so neither pair can be attempted together however many subjects you are entitled to. And a DUAT score is not itself an admission: candidates need to apply separately for admission through SAMARTH portal with valid DUAT score, which is a second application on a second website after the result is out.
Engineering runs on neither. Admission to the four-year B.Tech programmes at the Dibrugarh University Institute of Engineering and Technology is counselled in rounds for both CEE and JEE Candidates together, in hybrid mode, at Sir M. Visvesvaraya Bhawan on campus. The two routes are not equivalent in what they demand of a candidate: a Permanent Resident certificate is required only from CEE-category candidates, which is what makes the JEE Main route the practical door for an applicant from outside Assam. Vacant seats are published before each round in two parallel columns, one FOR CEE 2026 QUALIFIED CANDIDATE and one FOR JEE 2026 QUALIFIED CANDIDATE, branch by branch, and the 2026-27 counselling was still running a third round in August, so a candidate who missed the first list is not out.
Law, teacher education and several centres run their own papers on their own calendars, each notified individually on the admission page rather than folded into DUAT: the LL.B. Common Admission Test for the three-year LL.B, a separate Common Admission Test covering the five-year integrated BA LL.B and the BBA LL.B in both honours and non-honours form, and the B.Ed. Common Entrance Test for the two-year B.Ed.
One more layer is easy to miss and specific to this part of Assam. Beyond statutory reservation, the university admits under a non-statutory quota covering Sons and Daughters of the DU Employees/Retired Employees, Sports, Art/ Culture, Literary, NCC, NSS, Tea and Ex-tea Community, Local Gaon Panchayat, Moron and Matak Community. Claiming one is a paper process with its own deadline: a printed application, testimonials and a prescribed form have to reach the Deputy Registrar (Academic) by a date set well before admission, 22.06.2026 in the last cycle, and an online application alone does not preserve the claim.
Cutoff
No cutoff is published in advance for anything at Dibrugarh University, and the reason differs by programme. For the integrated programme the closing point is a class 12 aggregate that settles department by department once the merit list has run, so it moves with the subject, the category and the year rather than sitting at a fixed bar. For a master's seat it is a DUAT score, and admission is granted in descending order of DUAT 2026 scores, in accordance with the candidates' stated preferences. For B.Tech it is a CEE Assam or JEE Main rank that closes in a counselling round.
The only fixed, published bar is the eligibility floor, and it is worth treating as the real filter for the integrated programme: 60% in class 12 for general candidates and 55% for reserved categories, below which no amount of preference ordering helps.
What the university does publish, round by round, is more useful than a cutoff anyway. Each cycle it posts provisional merit lists, waiting lists, vacant-seat statements and spot admission notices on its admission page, including mop-up rounds under the non-CUET category. Those vacancy statements are the honest picture of how deep the list ran in a given subject, and they are the document to check if you are deciding whether a late application is worth making.
Placements
The jobs-and-further-study figures Dibrugarh University puts on the record sit in its annual return to the Ministry of Education, and that return groups them by the length of the degree rather than by department. The rows below are the newest cohort in the 2026 submission, the class of 2024-25.
| Programme band, 2024-25 | Graduating in stipulated time | Placed | Median salary | Higher study |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UG, three-year | 140 | 24 | Rs 3,93,700 | 83 |
| UG, four-year | 253 | 161 | Rs 12,50,000 | 66 |
| UG, five-year | 50 | 33 | Rs 11,50,000 | 10 |
| PG, two-year | 1,342 | 795 | Rs 14,85,000 | 362 |
| PG, three-year | 26 | 16 | Rs 14,20,000 | 4 |
| PG-integrated, five-year | 17 | 9 | Rs 9,25,000 | 7 |
Read the first two rows against each other before you read anything else. The three-year band places a sixth of its graduates at a median under four lakhs, while the four-year band places nearly two-thirds of its graduates at more than three times that median. The return does not say which degrees it folded into either band, so treat them as bands of degree length and nothing finer. A single campus-wide placement figure would average those two into a number describing nobody. The four-year median has also climbed in each of the three years reported, from Rs 12,00,000 for the 2022-23 cohort to Rs 12,50,000, while the number placed rose from 28 to 161.
There is a second return that complicates the picture, and any applicant to the pharmacy programmes should read it. In the pharmacy submission for 2025, which covers only the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 21 of the 46 B.Pharm students graduating in 2023-24 were placed at a median of Rs 3,40,000, and the M.Pharm cohort of the same year placed 23 of 26 at Rs 4,00,000. Those are the same university's figures filed on a different form, for the cohort one year earlier than the one in the table above, and the M.Pharm median sits at little more than a quarter of the campus-wide postgraduate median for the same 2023-24 year, Rs 14,70,000. Whichever department you are joining, the departmental return is closer to what you will experience than the aggregate.
The Training and Placement Cell has run since 2008, and its published policy is unusually explicit about what happens after you accept an offer. A student already placed may sit a routine second process where the new company offers a package higher by at least Rs. 2.0 lakhs per annum, and a B.Tech student placed outside their branch's core industry gets one further attempt when a core company visits. Everyone stays eligible for a Dream Company drive, which the cell defines as PSUs, Maharatna/Navaratna Companies, Government entities. Confirming attendance at a drive and then not turning up carries a one-time debarring from the next one.
Internships are rationed on the same page, and the reason given is scarcity rather than policy. The cell will process an upstream oil sector training request only once for the DUIET petroleum engineering branch students either in 5th or 6th semester, as training opportunities are highly limited in the upstream sector. It also warns that public sector internships are hard to arrange for the foreign students pursuing B.Tech/M.Tech in the University due to security clearance issues by the central security agencies, and steers those students towards private firms instead.
Seat Matrix
The integrated programme's intake is published subject by subject, and the spread between subjects is wide enough to change where you should apply.
| FYIPGP major, 2026-27 | Intake capacity | Of which CUET | Total with EWS supernumerary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anthropology | 10 | 1 | 10+1 |
| Applied Geology | 16 | 2 | 16+2 |
| Applied Psychology | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Assamese | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Biotechnology and Bioinformatics | 40 | 4 | 40+4 |
| Chemistry | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Commerce | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Economics | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| English | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Geography | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| History | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Life Sciences (Botany) | 10 | 1 | 10+1 |
| Life Sciences (Zoology) | 10 | 1 | 10+1 |
| Mathematics | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Physics | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Political Science | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Sociology | 20 | 2 | 20+2 |
| Statistics | 16 | 2 | 16+2 |
| Total | 342 | 35 | 342+35 |
Biotechnology and Bioinformatics is the outlier at 40 seats, four times Anthropology or either branch of Life Sciences, and it is also the one subject the university describes two ways. The admission modalities carve it out of the CUET route entirely, admissions will be done only on the basis of merit in 10+2 Examination, yet the same brochure's seat table still allots it 4 CUET seats out of the 40. Nothing in either document reconciles the two, so a CUET-UG candidate aiming at this subject should write to the centre before counting on either reading. Statutory reservation inside those numbers runs OBC/MOBC (NCL) 27%, ST (P) 10%, SC 7%, ST (H) 5%, with EWS added as 10% supernumerary seats rather than carved out of the intake. The separate plains and hills scheduled tribe columns are an Assam feature, and a candidate holding one certificate cannot compete on the other's seats.
Engineering seats sit outside that table altogether and are counted a different way. DUIET runs its four-year B.Tech in four branches with an approved intake of 60 in each branch, and at counselling those seats are not pooled: the vacancy statement splits every branch into a CEE column and a JEE column and fills them side by side.
Sanctioned intake across the whole campus, as filed with the ranking framework, shows where the weight really sits.
| Sanctioned intake | 2024-25 | 2023-24 | 2022-23 |
|---|---|---|---|
| UG, three-year | 156 | 145 | 145 |
| UG, four-year | 280 | 280 | 280 |
| UG, five-year | 60 | 66 | 66 |
| PG, two-year | 1,436 | 1,392 | Not reported |
| PG, three-year | 10 | 10 | 45 |
| PG-integrated | 218 | 20 | 20 |
The two-year master's intake of 1,436 dwarfs every undergraduate line put together, which is the seat-level version of the same point the placement table makes. This is a postgraduate campus with an undergraduate wing attached. The PG-integrated line jumped from 20 to 218 in a single year, and it has moved again since: the brochure's own subject table for 2026-27 adds up to 342. Neither document explains the step, so read the ranking return as a snapshot of 2024-25 and the brochure as the number a candidate applying now competes for.
Rankings
Two individually ranked positions and two alphabetical bands make up the whole of Dibrugarh University's 2025 record.
| NIRF 2025 | Placement | Score |
|---|---|---|
| State public universities | Rank 30 | 54.73 |
| Pharmacy | Rank 53 | 50.91 |
| Universities | Rank band 101 to 150, published alphabetically | No score published |
| Overall | Rank band 151 to 200, published alphabetically | No score published |
Split that 54.73 into the five parameters the table publishes and one of them is doing nearly all the work. Teaching, learning and resources comes in at 76.13, the seventh-highest teaching score among the fifty universities ranked individually there, ahead of Gauhati's 75.68. Everything else is middling or worse: graduation outcomes 76.36 sits below the midpoint of that column, research and professional practice 31.50 in the bottom third of that column, and outreach and inclusivity 51.45 and perception 20.16 are 46th and 44th of the fifty. The university placed immediately below it, Madurai Kamaraj, reaches a similar total from the other direction: a lower teaching score of 67.64 and a perception score of 45.56, more than twice Dibrugarh's. A candidate weighing the two should notice that Dibrugarh's rank is built on the faculty, funding and student-staff measures a student meets every day, and not on how the place is spoken of nationally.
Within Assam the comparison is short. Only two universities in the state are individually ranked on that table at all, Gauhati at 9 on 64.24 and Dibrugarh at 30. On the pharmacy table Dibrugarh is the second Assam entry after NIPER Guwahati at 12, and it finishes ahead of Assam University at 76.
Departments
The teaching estate is 33 departments and centres of studies grouped into seven Faculties of Studies, and one of those faculties is named Earth Sciences and Energy, which is the university naming itself after what upper Assam does for a living. The conventional departments cover anthropology, applied geology, applied psychology, Assamese, Bodo, chemistry, commerce, economics, education, English, geography, history, life sciences, mathematics, physics, political science, sociology and statistics.
The distinctive half is the professional and regional one. Four engineering departments sit inside DUIET, covering computer science, electronics and communication, mechanical and petroleum engineering, each with a B.Tech, an M.Tech and a doctoral programme, and three of the four M.Techs are specialisation-badged rather than general. DUIET is much younger than the campus around it and constituted differently: it was established by Dibrugarh University in the year 2009 with due approval from the Government of Assam as a constituent college, and carries 40 teaching faculty of its own. A separate Department of Petroleum Technology, distinct from DUIET's petroleum engineering department, runs the M.Tech in Petroleum Exploration and Production and the one-year Oil Well Drilling Technology diploma. The Centre for Tea and Agro Studies runs the plantation management diploma. Built for a region rather than a district, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences was established at Dibrugarh University in 1983 as the first establishment for offering Four years integrated Bachelor Degree course in Pharmacy (B. Pharm.) in entire North East India, taking students from all seven north-eastern states, with its recurring expenditure borne by the respective North East States on pro-rata basis and its M.Pharm added in 2002. The Centre For Studies in Languages runs a two-year postgraduate diploma in Tai and a one-year one in Mising, two languages of upper Assam that almost nowhere else offers as a formal qualification, and the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Centre for studies in Performing Arts awards master's degrees in Sattriya dance, theatre art and vocal music.
That regional specialisation shows in who the department collaborates with. The petroleum technology programme advertises Collaborations with OIL, ONGC, BCPL & NRL, all four of them operators headquartered in or working the upper Assam oil belt, alongside an International Collaboration with APU, Malaysia.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The university counts its library in resources rather than in volumes, which makes the figure hard to compare with anyone else's: more than 3,30,000 print and online resources including e-journals and e-books. The licensed half of that collection is broader than a shelf count would suggest, running to JSTOR, EBSCO, Springer Nature, Cambridge University Press, Gale, Manupatra, Sage Research Methods, Scopus and the EPWRF time series, with both DrillBit and Turnitin available for plagiarism checking (Lakshminath Bezbaroa Library).
Follow the capital budget instead of the amenity list and the priorities become obvious.
| Capital expenditure, 2024-25 | Amount |
|---|---|
| Library | Rs 2,56,41,459 |
| New equipment for laboratories | Rs 8,07,52,181 |
| Engineering workshops | Rs 1,19,20,014 |
| Studios | Rs 84,60,591 |
Laboratory equipment took roughly three times what the library did, and the engineering workshop line came to close to nine times the previous year's Rs 13,42,498. Accessibility is reported in bands rather than counts: lifts or ramps and specially designed toilets are each confirmed for more than 80% of buildings, with walking aids and inter-building transport confirmed outright, which leaves up to a fifth of the estate unaccounted for and worth asking the office about if it matters to you.
The rest of the campus provision is listed by the university as ICT-enabled classrooms, language laboratories, more than 50 value added add on Courses, an Office of International Affairs and a Health Centre with 24*7 Ambulance Services. Sustainability answers in the same return are modest and specific: four kinds of rainwater capture, rooftop, surface runoff, percolation pit and storage tank, solar generation, composting for food waste, and a ban on single-use plastic cutlery and straws.
Hostel
The university runs 16 hostels, an international one alongside the boys' and girls' halls, each under a warden with a chief warden and an associate chief warden over all of them. It is candid that they do not stretch far: seats are provided strictly on merit and first come first serve basis, and the hostel rules distribute them proportionately to each Departments/ Centres/ branches of DUIET rather than to whoever applies first across the campus.
One rule catches people out and appears nowhere in the admission notices. It bites at the second list rather than the first: when seats left unoccupied after the initial allotment are refilled, bona fide students of the university whose present residential address is within 8 km radius shall not be eligible for them. Living in Dibrugarh town, five kilometres up the highway, therefore costs you nothing in the first round and everything in the round that follows it. A hostel place is in any case a separate application from the course: the undertaking form is downloaded from the admission page alongside the fee structure, and a student can hold a course seat while still waiting on a hostel list.
What no document gives is the money. The rules name ten charges a boarder pays, an admission fee, hostel caution money, an annual fee, common room, establishment, seat rent, electricity, mess caution money, internet and pipe gas, but sets every one of them to be prescribed by the Executive Council from time to time instead of printing a figure. Neither the hostels page nor the rules themselves carry an amount, so if the cost of living on campus is decisive for you, that number has to come from the hostel office or a current boarder.
Faculty
The university entered 355 faculty members in its most recent ranking return, and the shape of that body matters more than its size. 60 are Professors and 22 Associate Professors against 273 Assistant Professors, and all but 2 of the rows are regular appointments rather than contractual ones. So a student here is taught almost entirely by permanent staff rather than by a rotating contract pool, and the ratio worth reading before you pick a department is the one inside that body: senior supervision is spread thin over a large junior faculty.
Doctoral supervision here has a shape you should understand before applying for a PhD. The return records 249 full-time doctoral students against 836 part-time ones, so more than three quarters of the doctoral roll is studying alongside a job. 132 full-time scholars finished in 2024-25. A prospective full-time scholar should ask a named supervisor how many part-time scholars they already hold before naming a department.
Sponsored research money has risen in each of the last three years, which is the part of the record the perception score does not reflect.
| Research and consultancy | 2024-25 | 2023-24 | 2022-23 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsored projects | 64 | 42 | 65 |

Patent activity moved sharply in the same period, from 5 patents published in calendar 2022 to 25 in 2024, with 12 granted in the latter year. Consultancy income, by contrast, fell in the most recent year even as the number of client organisations rose, so the average engagement got smaller.
Notable Alumni
No individual alumnus is named here, because nothing Dibrugarh University publishes names one. Its alumni pages carry no roll of distinguished graduates and no citation list. Search results will offer you names anyway, and none of them can be checked against anything the university has itself put in writing, so none of them belong here.
What does exist is an association. The Dibrugarh University Alumni Association was established in 2002 and is registered under the Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 as RS/DIB/255/G/10 of 2022-23, a registration granted two decades after the association itself. Writing to the association is the route to reach graduates directly, and it is the honest limit of what can be said about them from published sources.

Contact & Location
The campus address is short and the switchboard is a single exchange, with each office on its own extension.

Sending a query to the right desk saves a week here, because the admission machinery is genuinely split. Technical problems with an online form go to the admission support address named in the DUAT notification; questions about eligibility or a merit list belong to the department or centre you applied to, since admissions to all Departments/ Centres of Studies shall be held separately and each has its own admission committee. Anything about a claimed non-statutory quota goes to the Deputy Registrar (Academic) in hard copy.
The university is headed by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jiten Hazarika, with Dr. Paramananda Sonowal as Registrar; the Governor of Assam is Chancellor ex officio. Getting to the campus is straightforward by any mode, since the highway runs through it and the town is five kilometres north.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
The accreditation history is on the record in the university's own ranking submission, and it has not moved in one direction. Four National Assessment and Accreditation Council cycles are listed there, and the third scored higher than the fourth.
| NAAC cycle | Valid from | Valid to | CGPA |
|---|---|---|---|
| First | 16-05-2002 | 14-05-2007 | 70.95 |
| Second | 15-06-2009 | 14-06-2014 | 2.83 |
| Third | 28-03-2017 | 31-12-2022 | 3.16 |
| Fourth | 23-11-2023 | 22-12-2028 | 2.79 |
The first cycle was scored on the old percentage scale, so only the last three are comparable with each other, and on that scale the current accreditation sits below the one it replaced. Nothing in the submission explains the drop, and reading it as a verdict on any single department would be a stretch, since a NAAC score aggregates governance, infrastructure, research and student support across an entire university. What it does mean practically is that a student joining now joins under the 2.79 assessment rather than the 3.16 one that preceded it, and that this accreditation runs to 22-12-2028.
Beyond NAAC, approval is published department by department rather than centrally, so it has to be read where the programme actually lives, not inferred from the university's grade. DUIET states that All the programmes are duly approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and posts its AICTE approval extension letters for 2021-22, 2023-24 and 2024-25 beside that line. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences states that All the courses conducted in this Department are approved by the PCI and publishes the PCI order with it. The M.Tech in Petroleum Technology, which belongs to a department outside DUIET, advertises itself as Approved by UGC & AICTE. Only the university-wide claim is loose: that it is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and is recognised by all the universities in India and abroad.
Aid
Scholarships
Financial support here is mostly channelled rather than funded: the university disburses schemes that belong to other governments. Its published list names 11 schemes, and only one of them is the university's own.
| Scheme | Funded by |
|---|---|
| Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC/MOBC, SC and ST students | Government of Assam |
| Post-Matric and Merit Cum Means Scholarship for minority students | Char Areas Development Authority, Assam |
| NEC Merit Scholarship | Directorate of Technical Education, Assam |
| AICTE Scholarship | Government of India |
| Scholarships for students from Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh | Those state governments |
| Post Graduate Merit Scholarship | Dibrugarh University |
Three of the eleven are the schemes of a single neighbouring state each, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, which means a candidate arriving from any other state outside Assam finds no home-state line on this list at all, only the national AICTE award and the university's own postgraduate merit scholarship. Check your own state's directorate before you arrive rather than after: the university administers the money but does not create the entitlement, and nothing here substitutes for a scheme your home state has not funded.
The endowment awards are a separate and much smaller list, and they read as a map of what this university is known for. 9 awards are named, of which three are funded by ONGC: an ONGC Gold Medal for the best postgraduate student in Applied Geology, an ONGC Scholarship for the highest aggregate in Applied Geology, and a second ONGC Scholarship for the highest aggregate in the M.Tech in Petroleum Technology. A fourth, the Someswar Sarma Memorial Endowment award, goes to the top first-semester student in the tea technology and plantation management diploma. Oil and tea are not incidental subjects on this campus; they are where the prize money is.
