Bengaluru Urban, Karnataka Est. 1964 Official site Updated
NIRF STATEPUBLICUNIVERSITY
#26

Bangalore University carries a NAAC A++ grade at a CGPA of 3.75, awarded in its fourth accreditation cycle and valid to June 2028. It is also less than half the affiliating university it was a decade ago: a Karnataka amendment act split it in 2017, two new universities were carved out of it, and its own self-study report puts the before-and-after at more than 720 affiliated colleges then and 294 now. Two things follow for anyone applying. Check which of the three universities your college now belongs to, and understand that where you took your degree decides your place on the merit list before your marks do.

Overview

The A++ grade is recent and it is a jump, not a hold. The return the university filed for NIRF 2025 records a valid NAAC accreditation running from 10-06-2023 to 09-06-2028 at a CGPA of 3.75, and the self-study report it submitted to NAAC in March 2023 states that the previous cycle closed at Grade 'A' with a score of 3.16. The university carries the A++ grade on its accreditation page and prints it on the masthead of the provisional postgraduate seat matrix it issued for 2026-27, so an applicant meets the grade before they meet a course list.

The institution is older than the campus most people picture. It was established in July 1964 as an offshoot of the University of Mysore, with Central College and the University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering forming its nucleus, and moved in 1973 to the Jnana Bharathi campus on the western edge of the city. The self-study report describes a campus of over 1,111 acres holding 47 departments and three constituent colleges in engineering, physical education and law.

Then it was cut into three. Bengaluru North University's own record states that the Government of Karnataka notified the split through a university gazette notification dated 13-08-2015, that the new university was created in 2017 under the Karnataka State Universities (Amendment) Act, 2015, trifurcating Bangalore University to form Bengaluru North University and Bengaluru Central University, and that it was inaugurated on 21 September 2017 with its seat at Tamaka in Kolar. The second university of that pair now answers to a different name: Karnataka's higher education council lists Bengaluru City University on its roster of state universities, and that university, formally Dr. Manmohan Singh Bengaluru City University, records itself as a state public affiliating university established in 2017 which says it inherits the legacy of the Central College campus.

That last clause is the part worth stopping on. Central College was one of the two colleges Bangalore University was assembled around when it was established in July 1964, and it now sits inside the university carved out of it. The boundary between the three is drawn in a way no map will show you either: BNU's record states that affiliation is settled by Karnataka Legislative Assembly constituency, not by postal address, so two colleges on opposite sides of the same Bengaluru road can be examined by different universities, and a student cannot infer their examining body from the address on the prospectus.

One warning about the university's own front door. Its overview page still describes 684 affiliated colleges and a student population of over three lakhs. That college count is more than double what the university's current affiliation list runs to, so it cannot be describing the institution that exists after 2017. The live figures are in the accreditation report and the affiliation list, not on that page.

Two name clashes cause real confusion here. This is not the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, a separate state agricultural university that NIRF ranks in the same Karnataka field, and it is not Bengaluru North University or Bengaluru City University, both of which were carved out of it and both of which run their own admissions.

Courses & Fees

The teaching centre of gravity is postgraduate, and the intake columns of the filing show it. Its NIRF 2025 return enters one five-year undergraduate programme, sanctioned at 60 seats in every year from 2019-20 onward, alongside a two-year postgraduate intake of 1773 for 2023-24, down from 1932 in 2022-23. Undergraduate teaching under this university's name is done overwhelmingly in its affiliated and constituent colleges, which that return does not count.

What the departments themselves offer is unusually wide for a state university, and several of the newer courses are not the ones a prospectus from ten years ago would list. The provisional postgraduate seat matrix for 2026-27 runs across four faculties and includes M.A. Media Studies, M.A. Public Relations and Advertising, M.Sc. Film Making, M.Sc. Graphics and Animation, M.Sc. Forensic Science, M.Sc. Human Consciousness and Yogic Science, M.Sc. Fashion and Apparel Design, M.Com. in Financial Analysis and M.Com. in Fin-Tech and AI, alongside the conventional language, science and social science masters.

LevelWhat the university itself runsWhere the admission notice lives

EngineeringB.Tech. at the University Visvesvaraya College of EngineeringThe college's own pages
DoctoralPh.D. through entrance and non-entrance routesThe Ph.D. notifications page

Tuition is the one figure this university makes genuinely hard to read. It publishes fee schedules for its departments, for its affiliated colleges and for undergraduate courses, but each of them is posted as a scanned image with no machine-readable text behind it, so the amounts have to be read off the notification itself and cannot be searched, compared or quoted from anywhere else. What the admission rules do fix is the mechanics: the annual course fee plus the other first-year fees are paid online through the UUCMS portal on the day of counselling, or the seat is cancelled, and a student admitted to a payment seat pays the regular fee on top of the payment-seat fee. The binding number is the one printed against your exact course in the current fee notification on the admissions and fee page.

Examination fees are published in plain text and are worth budgeting for separately, because they recur every semester. One notification gives the shape of them.

Fee head, B.P.Ed. July 2026 examinationsAmount
Whole examination fee, second semester freshersRs 2,266
Marks card, processing and scrutiny feeRs 275
Convocation fee, charged with the fourth semesterRs 1,925
Repeaters, per subjectRs 732
Late fee after the without-fine dateRs 200

Two groups pay very little of that. The same notification records that Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students of Karnataka are not to be charged the prescribed examination fee at all, the Social Welfare Department reimbursing it, while Category-I students under one income ceiling and Category 2A, 3A and 3B students whose parents earn up to Rs 1,00,000 can claim the money back from the Backward Classes Welfare Department. The notification is published as a scan and the Category-I ceiling is not legible in it, so settle that one with the college office rather than with a figure copied off a listing site. Neither reimbursement is automatic: each follows an online post-matric application filed through the college, and the notification is explicit that the concession does not reach Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students of other states, who remit the fee like anyone else.

Fee support here is the norm rather than the exception, and that, more than the tuition line, is what keeps the degree cheap. The self-study report records 16,040 students benefiting from government scholarships, 10,014 from university schemes and 91 from NGO scholarships, an average of 79.67% on the NAAC metric for scholarships and freeships over five years, and about 68% of students getting the benefit of a freeship in a given year. Read the 79.67% carefully: NAAC defines that metric to exclude students already receiving a government reserved-category scholarship, so it measures the support layered on top of the state schemes, not the total. Doctoral money is a separate arrangement and an unusually generous one for a state university, since it comes out of the university's own budget: the same report states that Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe research scholars are paid Rs 22,000 a month as junior research fellows and Rs 25,000 as senior research fellows by Bangalore University itself.

Admissions

Postgraduate entry runs on marks, not on an entrance test, with one exception. The eligibility criteria for 2026-27 require a three-year bachelor's degree or a four-year honours degree with the relevant subject as an optional, major, special or main subject, a minimum of 40% in the aggregate of all subjects, and a minimum of 50% in the qualifying optional or cognate subject, with 45% accepted in place of that 50% for Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Category-I and Persons with Disabilities candidates. The exception is social work: the admission rules state that an entrance test is conducted for the Master of Social Work course only, and that B.P.Ed. applicants sit a physical test instead.

Now the part that decides most outcomes and that no prospectus puts on its first page. The rank list is not a single merit order. It is built in priority blocks, and merit only sorts within a block.

PriorityWho sits in the block
IKarnataka student and Bangalore University student
IINon-Karnataka student and Bangalore University student
IIIKarnataka student and BU autonomous college student
IVKarnataka student and Hyderabad Karnataka student
VKarnataka student and other universities within Karnataka
VIUniversities outside Karnataka

Read that as a graduate of another university and it is bad news worth having early. A Bangalore University graduate with a mediocre percentage outranks a first-class graduate of a neighbouring state university for the same seat, because the second one is in a lower block. The rules put it plainly: preference goes to Bangalore University students with domicile, then to Bangalore University graduates without Karnataka domicile, then to the university's autonomous colleges, then to other universities within Karnataka, and last to outside Karnataka.

The mechanics are online at the front and physical at the back. A candidate applies course by course through the Unified University College Management System portal of the Government of Karnataka, then posts or delivers the printed form with self-attested documents to the department concerned before the last date; the department addresses for that hard copy are published separately, department by department. Counselling itself is in person, and the candidate picks a course and a department or college from whatever is still unfilled when their turn comes.

Supernumerary claims are graded, not just ticked, and the points are published. The rules award 150 points for international sports participation down to 25 for an inter-collegiate championship, 150 for an international individual cultural performance down to 25 for an inter-collegiate one, 150 for Republic Day participation under the NCC quota and 100 for an NCC 'C' certificate at A grade, and 100 for the child of a defence person who died in harness. Rural and Kannada-medium claims both need ten full academic years from first to tenth standard, certified and countersigned by the Block Educational Officer.

If you change your mind, the money is on a clock. Refunds follow the UGC policy the university has adopted: 80% back if the withdrawal notice reaches the university 15 days or less after the notified last date of admission, 50% if more than 15 days but within 30, and nothing after 30 days.

Law is admitted on its own terms. University Law College requires that an applicant for the five-year B.A. LL.B. (Honours) course has passed the Pre-University Course or an equivalent senior secondary examination with not less than 45% in the aggregate, relaxed to 40% for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates and 42% for Other Backward Classes as notified by the Government of Karnataka, while LL.M. entry needs 45% in the aggregate of a three-year or five-year LL.B..

Cutoff

There is no closing rank to chase at Bangalore University, and any site quoting one for a taught master's here has made it up. A department publishes its own final merit list, then fills its seats face to face at counselling from whoever appears and whatever is still unfilled when their turn arrives, so the lowest mark that gets in is a by-product of that afternoon and is knowable only afterwards.

What the university does publish, in full and department by department, is the merit list itself, with every applicant's marks printed against their name. The 2026-27 list for M.Sc. Physics shows how much work the priority blocks do.

Block in the M.Sc. Physics final merit list, 2026-27RanksHighest ranking-subject marks in the block
Karnataka and Bangalore University students1 to 161,099 of 1,200
Karnataka and Bangalore University autonomous college students17982 of 1,200
Kalyana Karnataka students18 to 22754 of 900
Outside university within Karnataka students23 to 781,168 of 1,200

The bottom row is the one to sit with. The applicant who topped the whole list on marks scored 1,168 of 1,200 and was placed 23rd, below every candidate in the first block, one of whom took rank 16 on 881 of 1,200. The four next-highest scorers on the list sit immediately behind at ranks 24 to 27, for the same reason. Then the detail that ties this page's two halves together: the list marks four of those five as graduates of Bengaluru North University, and carries Bengaluru City University graduates in the same outside-university block further down. Both are the universities carved out of Bangalore University in 2017, and their graduates now queue behind its own for its seats.

The department published 78 ranked candidates against a sanctioned intake of 56 at the Jnana Bharathi campus, so the last accepted rank in each category is settled at the counselling table, not in the notification.

Vacant reserved seats do not simply lapse either, and the transfer order changes who the marginal candidate turns out to be. The rules move an unfilled Scheduled Caste seat to Scheduled Tribe and the reverse, and only then onward to Category-I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B in that order; an unfilled Category-I seat travels 2A, 2B, 3A, 3B, SC, ST, GM; and where three Persons with Disabilities seats fall vacant they split, one to General Merit, one to the best candidate among SC, ST and Category-I, one to the best among 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B. Apply under a category that fills easily in most years and a thin year can still reach you from two categories away.

Placements

The university's central placement cell, DRISHTI, sits at the Canara Bank School of Management Studies in the Old Pareeksha Bhavan and lists a placement officer, a phone number and an email address. It puts no salary, no recruiter list and no placement percentage beside them, so every number below is from the NIRF return, which is the only document in which this university has committed itself to a figure.

Programme bandGraduating, 2023-24PlacedMedian salaryHigher studies
PG, 2 year1,7511,576Rs 3,50,000124
UG, 5 year5850Rs 8,00,0006

The three-year run behind the postgraduate row is the part an applicant should read before the headline number, because the two halves of it move in opposite directions.

Academic yearGraduating in minimum timePlacedMedian salary
2021-221,7821,211Rs 6,52,000
2022-232,0871,429Rs 3,50,000
2023-241,7511,576Rs 3,50,000

More postgraduates are being placed each year and the median they are placed at has almost halved. Read against the same filing, 1,576 of 1,751 finishers placed in 2023-24 against 1,211 of 1,782 two years earlier is a placement rate climbing hard while the price of the average offer falls, which is what volume recruitment at the entry level tends to look like. The small five-year undergraduate band is the opposite case and too small to generalise from: 50 of 58 placed at a median of Rs 8,00,000 in 2023-24, up from Rs 7,45,000 in each of the two years before.

The self-study report counts outcomes over its whole assessment period rather than by year: 12,455 students who passed degrees of Bangalore University are recorded as employed, 2,822 as having cleared various competitive examinations, and 968 as having progressed to higher education. Those totals cover the affiliated colleges as well as the campus, so they answer a different question from the NIRF rows above.

Seat Matrix

Intake is fixed department by department and published before counselling. These are the larger postgraduate courses taught at the Jnana Bharathi campus.

B.P.Ed. at the University College of Physical Education50
M.Sc. Mathematics44
M.Sc. Psychology43
M.Sc. Zoology43

How many of those seats the university itself allots is the second half of the answer, and it differs by who runs the college. The seat matrix allots 100% of the intake at the university departments, the Ramanagara postgraduate centre and government colleges through university counselling, while the admission rules put 50% of the seats of an affiliated college into the same counselling pool. At a private affiliated college, in other words, the university decides half the class and the college fills the rest.

Reservation is applied to what is left after two slices come off the top. The rules take 8% of the total intake for the Hyderabad Karnataka region and 5% for Persons with Disabilities, with one or two seats for BU autonomous college students drawn from General Merit, then distribute the regular seats as follows. Hyderabad Karnataka is the older name for the region the departments now label Kalyana Karnataka on their merit lists, and a claim under it needs a certificate from the competent authority.

CategoryShare of the regular seats
General Merit50%
Scheduled Castes15%
Category II A15%
Category III B5%
Category I4%
Category II B4%
Category III A4%
Scheduled Tribes3%

The Scheduled Caste share is split further, at 5.25% for Category A, 5.25% for Category B and 4.50% for Category C. One more line matters if you are applying from within the university: one seat in each course of the postgraduate departments is reserved for the children of teaching staff and one for the children of non-teaching staff.

The matrix itself is provisional until the affiliation orders land. The document says so on its own face: it is prepared pending the issue of affiliation orders by the university and approval by the Higher Education Department, and the allocation will change if any course's intake changes.

Rankings

NIRF 2025 carries this university in two tables, and the gap between them is the story.

NIRF 2025 categoryRankScore
State Public Universities2657.04
University6550.72

A second score for the same institution in the same year is not an inconsistency. The University table pools it with private and deemed universities; the state public table restricts the field to its actual peers. Laying the two parameter sets against each other shows which of the five are sensitive to that swap and which are not.

NIRF 2025 parameterUniversity tableState public university table
Graduation Outcomes78.3782.62
Teaching, Learning and Resources69.2871.38
Outreach and Inclusivity57.8159.10
Perception37.5148.43
Research and Professional Practice15.8127.85

Three of the five barely move; two collapse. Teaching, graduation outcomes and inclusivity each shift by two or three points between the tables, while Research and Professional Practice falls from 27.85 among state public universities to 15.81 in the open University table, and Perception from 48.43 to 37.51. Research output and reputation are precisely the two things a large, grant-constrained state university loses on when the field widens to include well-funded private and deemed institutions; how well it teaches and how many of its students finish do not change with the company it is scored against.

Within the open table the internal spread is the sharper number. Graduation Outcomes of 78.37 sit against Research and Professional Practice of 15.81, a distance no other parameter comes close to, and the plain reading is that this university carries very large cohorts to their degrees while its published research does not scale with them. A taught master's applicant is not buying that number, since it counts publications, patents and funded projects rather than classroom hours. A doctoral applicant is buying it directly, and should interrogate it department by department before agreeing a supervisor.

Departments

The academic map is wide rather than deep in any one place. The self-study report counts 47 departments and three constituent colleges in engineering, physical education and law, and records 108 programmes offered in 2021-22, up from 93 in 2017-18. Its academic page groups the postgraduate departments under four faculties, Science, Arts, Commerce and Management, and Education, with law and engineering taught in their own constituent colleges rather than in a faculty.

Teaching is not confined to Jnana Bharathi. The postgraduate centre at Ramanagara teaches Economics, History, Kannada, Political Science, Rural Development Studies, Social Work, Sociology, Mathematics and M.Com., and it is a separate choice at counselling rather than a satellite of the main campus.

The two constituent colleges with the longest independent histories are worth naming separately. University Law College began as the Government Law College established by the erstwhile Government of Mysore on 1 July 1948, was transferred to Bangalore University as a constituent college in 1976, and has offered the five-year integrated LL.B. since 1986-87 and a master's in law since 1960-61. The University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering was established in 1917 by Sir M. Visvesvaraya, which makes it older than the university that now runs it. Where it teaches you matters here as much as what it teaches you, because the college is not on one site: it holds Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics, Electronics and Communication and Computer Science on a 10 acre city campus at K.R. Circle, and Civil Engineering and Architecture on a 50 acre site inside Jnana Bharathi, with Information Science completing its list of departments. A B.Tech offer here is an offer of a particular commute across Bengaluru as much as of a particular subject.

Beyond the departments the same page lists a set of study and special centres that shape what the electives look like: the Jagajeevan Ram and Basavalingappa study centres, the Allampalli Venkataraman Chair, a Centre for Ambedkar Studies, a Skill Development Centre and centres for yoga studies and Gandhian studies. The yoga centre is not ornamental: the self-study report states that the university yoga centre provides the Master of Science in Yoga, Human Consciousness and Yoga, the degree that appears in the seat matrix as M.Sc. Human Consciousness and Yogic Science.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The campus is the largest single fact about student life here. The Jnana Bharathi site runs to over 1,111 acres, of which 800 acres of original thorny forest has been kept as a biodiversity conservation area rather than built on. Alongside the departments the campus carries a shopping complex, health centres at both Jnana Bharathi and the engineering college, a guest house, a swimming pool, a post office, a bank, a fire station and a police station.

The library is the strongest single resource and the report itemises it: 3,80,000 books, 60,000 back volumes, 200 periodicals, 60 newspapers and magazines and 52,000 e-books, used by about 70% of students and teachers, with Rs 1,274.91 lakh spent on books, e-books and journal subscriptions over five years. The e-journal holding is the one line in that inventory to treat with care, because the report gives it as one and a half lakh in one chapter and one and a half million in another, and does not reconcile the two. Computing is at about 2,000 machines of which 1,350 are reserved for students, on a 1 GBPS connection, with roughly 20 kilometres of optic fibre linking the campus.

Capital spending is lumpy, and for anyone joining a laboratory-based course the pattern matters more than the totals. The university spent Rs 6,52,52,366 on new laboratory equipment in 2023-24 against Rs 77,86,984 the year before, and Rs 2,14,79,863 on the library in 2023-24 against Rs 89,84,036 in 2022-23. A department re-equipped in that 2023-24 push and one still waiting its turn are different places to spend two years, and only the department can say which it is.

Accessibility on this campus is answered on the record, and the record is a checkbox. Asked whether its buildings carry lifts or ramps, the university answers "more than 80% of the buildings", and answers the question on specially designed toilets identically. That is a majority rather than a totality, twice over, and on a site of this size the remainder is not a rounding error. The self-study report fills in what the checkbox cannot, listing a Braille resource centre, accessible restrooms, wheelchairs and tri-cycle scooters, an empowerment cell for differently abled students and an equal opportunity cell. The step that is actually worth taking is to confirm that the one building you would study in falls inside the majority the return describes.

Hostel

Accommodation exists at scale; a published price for it does not. The self-study report claims more than 3200 students provided with boarding and lodging, and more than 50% of the students housed in hostels, and states that hostel facilities have been provided to all students in the Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes categories. Even the number of blocks is unsettled inside that one document: its infrastructure list counts 12 hostels, while its student-support chapter says the Dean of Student Welfare's office maintains 13 hostels, five of them for women.

The university's hostel page names the blocks and stops. It lists a postgraduate boys' hostel, Women's Hostel No.1 on a paying basis and Women's Hostel No.2 on a non-paying basis, two Ph.D. hostels and the PG-2 and PG-5 men's hostels, with a chief warden and a mobile number printed against each women's hostel and no contact against the men's or the doctoral blocks. Those two wardens' numbers are therefore the only route to a rent, a capacity or a waiting list, none of which is published anywhere. Ring them before you count a bed as secured, and ring them early if you are one of the 192 postgraduates from other states or 122 from outside India that the return counts on the current roll.

Faculty

The NIRF filing and the accreditation report ask different questions of the same staff, and both answers matter. The NIRF 2025 return enters 290 faculty members; the self-study report gives their composition, with 92.03% of teachers holding a Ph.D. and permanent teaching faculty averaging 20.36 years of experience. Two decades of average experience is a real asset in a taught classroom and a warning sign on a staffing chart, because it is also the profile of a faculty approaching retirement in numbers.

Doctoral supervision is where 290 teachers get stretched thinnest. The return puts 364 full-time and 246 part-time doctoral candidates on the register and 201 full-time and 126 part-time doctorates awarded in 2023-24, which means the register alone runs to roughly two scholars per teacher before a single postgraduate class is taught. Money is flowing through the same people: 182 sponsored projects from 29 funding agencies brought in Rs 73,13,06,863 in 2023-24, against Rs 6,93,18,778 the year before, and 221 consultancy projects for 153 client organisations added Rs 2,56,42,351. A sponsored-research line that moves by an order of magnitude in a single year is the most volatile figure on this page, and it means a laboratory's funding position in the year you arrive may look nothing like the year before it.

Some of the research budget is genuinely the university's own, which is rare for a state institution under grant pressure. It reports seed money of Rs 217.18 lakh disbursed to 109 teachers from internal resources, 2,237 publications in Scopus and Web of Science between 2016-17 and 2021-22, and 119 patents filed with 53 granted. Across 47 departments those totals thin out fast, so the useful question at a supervisor meeting is not what the university publishes but which funded project that specific person is holding this year.

Guest and temporary teaching is a standing arrangement here, not an emergency measure. The university keeps a standing guest faculty application page and has invited applications for full-time and part-time guest faculty positions for the academic year 2026-27, so in any given year part of the teaching in a department is done by staff appointed for that year alone. Ask a department which of its papers those are before you commit to it.

Notable Alumni

One official document names alumni, and it is the accreditation report rather than any page on the website. Its alumni-engagement chapter lists as prominent former students Prof. M. R. Srinivasan, nuclear scientist; Dr. Roddam Narasimha, aerospace scientist; Dr. Raja Ramanna; Dr. V. K. Aatre, scientist; Sri Ravishankar Guruji and Sri Sri Shivakumara Swamiji, spiritual leaders; Dr. H. Narasimhaiah, educationist; and Sri M. N. Venkatachalaiah, Chief Justice of India. The report offers no graduation years or degrees against those names, so treat the list as the university's own claim of lineage rather than as a verified register, and note that several of them predate the 2017 split, when Central College and a far larger college network still sat inside this university.

The infrastructure behind that list is thinner than the list itself. The report records a global alumni network, with registered and functional alumni associations at the engineering college, University Law College and the departments of Political Science, Geology, Biotechnology and Microbiology, the UVCE associations being the ones with a documented record of raising money for the college. Nothing comparable is published for the arts, science or commerce departments. The university's own achievements page carries year-by-year award lists from 2017 to 2022 and names no alumni at all, so an applicant weighing the network in a specific department should ask that department directly.

News & Articles

The official notice board is the only reliable feed, and a handful of items on it are worth an applicant's attention. The university announced ISO 9001:2015 certification, recorded Prof. C. Shivaraju assuming office as Vice-Chancellor, ran the Bangalore University Science Festival 2026 and a three-day Agentic AI Saksham programme from March 25, 2026, and extended the date for collecting degree certificates from its 61st annual convocation. A change of Vice-Chancellor is the one an applicant should track, because admission calendars and fee notifications are issued under that office's approval. The same page carries the live admission, examination and revaluation notifications, which turn over weekly during an admission cycle, so it is the page to check rather than any secondary listing.

College Compare

Karnataka puts four universities in the NIRF 2025 state public table, and this one sits second among them.

Mysore University2058.00
Bangalore University2657.04
University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore3753.21
Visvesvaraya Technological University5050.28

Two of those rows deserve a note. The one above it is Mysore University, which Bangalore University was established in July 1964 as an offshoot of; the parent still finishes ahead, but by under a point of total score, close enough that a choice between them should turn on the department and the commute rather than on the table. The row below is the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, a separate state agricultural university that shares this one's city and half its name, and it admits on entirely different terms.

The comparison that matters most, though, is not on this table at all. For a student already at a Bengaluru college, the choice between Bangalore University, Bengaluru North University and Bengaluru City University was made for them by their college's assembly constituency, and the only live decision left is whether to sit the outside-university block here or stay where their degree was awarded.

Contact & Location

The campus is at Jnana Bharathi, on Mysore Road on the western side of Bengaluru, and the switchboard is rarely the fastest route because admissions and examinations are handled by different sections with their own numbers.

Two more addresses are worth having. The central placement cell can be reached on 080-22961977 at placementcellbub@gmail.com, and University Law College on 080 22961172 at uni.lawcollege@bub.ernet.in. The postal code for the Jnana Bharathi campus is 560056, and hard-copy applications go to the individual department rather than to a central admissions office.
