More than 2.5 lakh students apply to Lady Shri Ram College for Women each year, and roughly 1,100 are admitted, which tells you most of what you need to know about how hard a seat here is to win. LSR is a constituent women's college of the University of Delhi in Lajpat Nagar, not an institution you approach at its own admission counter, so your entry is settled by a CUET score run through the University's central allocation and your fee is a fixed per-programme amount printed in the college prospectus. This page lays out the parts a school-leaver actually has to plan around: the courses on offer, the real 2026-27 fee against each one, what the rank is built from, and where its graduates go next.
Overview
Lady Shri Ram College was established in 1956 by the industrialist Sir Shri Ram in memory of his late wife, and the college's own account still ties its work to his line that more education for women is better education for all. It sits as a green campus in Lajpat Nagar in South Delhi, deliberately away from the North Campus cluster where most of the older Delhi University colleges are grouped, and it teaches women alone across the social sciences, the humanities and commerce, with two B.Sc. programmes in Mathematics and Statistics and three professional courses on top.
In 2021 the National Assessment and Accreditation Council placed the college in its A++ band in the second assessment cycle, one of the highest grades it awards, as the 2026-27 prospectus records. The college carries close to 3,600 students on its rolls, and its identity is built less around a placement number than around where its graduates go, a point the sections below return to. From here the page works through the college the way an applicant meets it: the honours degrees and the fee attached to each, the CUET-and-CSAS route into a seat, and the graduate destinations that do more than any placement table to explain its standing.
Courses & Fees
LSR is an undergraduate-first college whose spine is the single-subject honours degree. The prospectus lists thirteen Honours courses, Commerce, Economics, English, Hindi, History, Journalism, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, Sociology and Statistics, alongside a multidisciplinary B.A. Programme with several subject pairings, a Bachelor of Elementary Education, and the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme. At the postgraduate level the college teaches M.A. and M.Sc. degrees in English, Hindi, Mathematics, Statistics, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit and History, admitted separately through the University.
Because Delhi University fixes the fee per programme and category, there is no single "LSR fee" to quote, and the amounts below are the first-year figures the college publishes for 2026-27.
| Programme (first-year, 2026-27) | General | OBC / SC / ST / EWS | PwD |
|---|---|---|---|
| B.A. (Hons) Economics, English, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit | Rs 24,660 | Rs 24,480 | Rs 3,300 |
| B.A. (Hons) Psychology | Rs 25,760 | Rs 25,580 | Rs 3,300 |
| B.A. (Hons) Sociology | Rs 29,660 | Rs 29,480 | Rs 3,300 |
| B.A. (Hons) Journalism | Rs 34,660 | Rs 34,480 | Rs 3,300 |
| B.Com (Hons) and B.Sc (Hons) Mathematics | Rs 29,160 | Rs 28,980 | Rs 3,300 |
| B.Sc (Hons) Statistics | Rs 29,460 | Rs 29,280 | Rs 3,300 |
| Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) | Rs 26,960 | Rs 26,780 | Rs 3,300 |
| B.A. Programme (subject combinations) | Rs 24,660 to Rs 29,160 | Rs 24,480 to Rs 28,980 | Rs 3,300 |
| Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) | Rs 52,460 | Not separately published | Not separately published |
Two things stand out. Journalism is the costliest of the honours degrees at Rs 34,660, and the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme sits well above everything else at Rs 52,460, while a student with a disability pays a flat Rs 3,300 whatever the course. Candidates admitted under the Children and Widows of Armed Forces, Kashmiri Migrant, sports and extra-curricular categories pay the same amount as the General figure, and the prospectus warns that an examination fee and any University-level revision are charged on top, so treat these as the current published rates rather than a fixed ceiling.
Admissions
Admission at LSR is centralised, and every undergraduate route begins in the same place: registering for CUET (UG) 2026 at the National Testing Agency portal, which the college requires even of candidates applying under a supernumerary quota. The seat itself is then handed out by the University's Common Seat Allocation System: you rank LSR and the honours you want among your CSAS choices, and each allocation round fills places strictly on merit. None of that decision happens at the college gate. The one course that steps outside this pattern is the Integrated Teacher Education Programme, which admits nationally through the National Common Entrance Test conducted by the NTA rather than through CSAS.
Reservation follows national policy, and the prospectus sets it out precisely: 22.5% of seats for SC and ST candidates together, 27% for OBC candidates from the central non-creamy-layer list, 10% for EWS and 5% for Persons with Disabilities. Beyond these, the college fills supernumerary places for Children and Widows of Armed Forces personnel, Kashmiri Migrants, the Orphan and Single Girl Child quotas, the Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir, and the University staff ward quota. Ten per cent of the seats in each programme are held as supernumerary places for foreign nationals, who apply separately through Delhi University's Foreign Students' Registry. For sports and extra-curricular seats the college weights the CUET score at 25% and certificates, trials and performance at 75%, so those routes reward a proven record rather than the entrance mark alone.
Cutoff
There is no published cutoff to clear before you apply to LSR, and treating a figure from an aggregator as one is the commonest mistake made here. A closing mark here is not published in advance; it is simply whatever CUET score the last admitted candidate in a given honours and category is left holding once a CSAS round settles. That makes it a moving figure, pushed up or down by how many seats a round releases and how heavily the course is preferred. With more than 2.5 lakh applicants competing for roughly 1,100 places, the college's own admission note makes clear how thin the margin is, and the most-subscribed honours, Economics, Political Science, Psychology and English, tend to close near the top of the University's merit order. Watch the round-wise CSAS results as they post, aim for the strongest CUET score you can, and do not plan around a fixed target that does not exist.
Placements
LSR is a liberal-arts and commerce college rather than a professional campus, and it does not publish an audited placement report with an average or highest package, so any such figure carried on a listing site is unverified and we will not invent one. The honest signal is the recruiter record its departments name. The Commerce Department, for instance, reports that its graduates have taken up roles with organisations such as Deloitte, KPMG, NODWIN and American Express, as its department profile sets out.
What genuinely distinguishes the college is where its students go for further study, and here the record is unusually deep. The prospectus lists graduates progressing to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, the London School of Economics, Oxford, Columbia and King's College London abroad, and to the IIMs, the Delhi School of Economics, Jawaharlal Nehru University and the National Law School at home. For a college whose graduates so often move into postgraduate study, public service and research, that admissions-elsewhere sheet is the more truthful measure of outcome than a campus salary table would be.
Seat Matrix
LSR does not print a course-by-course seat matrix in its prospectus. It states instead that the sanctioned intake and the category-wise split for each programme are notified through Delhi University's Bulletin of Information for undergraduate admissions and the CSAS portal, which are updated for every cycle, so those are the only authoritative counts to read. What the college does state is the shape of the contest: against an intake of roughly 1,100 undergraduate places, more than 2.5 lakh candidates apply, and every programme's total is then split across the reserved categories at the percentages given in the Admissions section above, with the foreign-national and sports quotas added on top as supernumerary seats. Read those official notifications for the exact number against your course and category before you rank the college in your preference list.
Rankings
In the NIRF 2025 college ranking Lady Shri Ram sits at number 17 nationally on an overall score of 69.87, one place clear of Shri Ram College of Commerce and the higher-ranked of the two colleges that carry the Shri Ram name. The single rank hides the more interesting story, which is how lopsided the five parameter scores behind it are.
| NIRF 2025 parameter | LSR score |
|---|---|
| Perception | 100.00 |
| Graduation Outcomes | 94.69 |
| Outreach and Inclusivity | 73.78 |
| Teaching, Learning and Resources | 61.03 |
| Research and Professional Practice | 29.41 |
LSR posts a perfect 100.00 on perception, the maximum the framework allows and the strongest possible reading of its reputation among academics and employers, and a very high 94.69 on graduation outcomes, the measure of how its students complete and progress. The figure that drags the total down is research and professional practice at 29.41, the lowest of the five by a wide margin, which is the expected profile of an undergraduate teaching college that publishes comparatively little rather than a research university. In plain terms, the rank understates how the college is regarded and reflects a research mandate it was never built to carry.
Departments
Teaching at LSR is organised by department, and the department you enter is where your three or four years are actually spent, so it is worth reading the map before you rank a course. The table below pairs each teaching department with the degrees it runs, drawn from the college prospectus.
| Department | Programmes |
|---|---|
| Commerce | B.Com (Hons) |
| Economics | B.A. (Hons) Economics; M.A. Economics |
| English | B.A. (Hons) English; M.A. English |
| Hindi | B.A. (Hons) Hindi; M.A. Hindi |
| History | B.A. (Hons) History; M.A. History |
| Journalism | B.A. (Hons) Journalism |
| Mathematics | B.Sc. (Hons) Mathematics; M.A. Mathematics |
| Philosophy | B.A. (Hons) Philosophy; M.A. Philosophy |
| Political Science | B.A. (Hons) Political Science; M.A. Political Science |
| Psychology | B.A. (Hons) Psychology |
| Sanskrit | B.A. (Hons) Sanskrit; M.A. Sanskrit |
| Sociology | B.A. (Hons) Sociology |
| Statistics | B.Sc. (Hons) Statistics |
| Computer Applications | Discipline, skill-enhancement and elective courses for other programmes |
| Elementary Education | B.El.Ed. and the Integrated Teacher Education Programme |
Two departments sit slightly apart from the honours list. Computer Applications teaches core programming, web design and cyber-security as skill and elective courses for students across the college rather than a standalone honours degree, and the Elementary Education department carries the professional teaching programmes. The college also runs a one-year Diploma in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding, admitted directly by the college outside the CSAS route.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The campus is compact and self-contained, built to keep an undergraduate's day inside one green block in South Delhi. Alongside the departmental laboratories and a central library, the college runs the REACH Programme, its standing commitment to students with disabilities, providing the support and resources meant to put them on equal footing, as the prospectus describes. Everyday facilities on site include a multi-cuisine cafe, a bookshop, a bank, a health centre and campus-wide connectivity.
Two features are more distinctive than a facilities list usually is. The Aung San Suu Kyi Centre for Peace, named for the Nobel Peace laureate who studied here, anchors the college's work in conflict studies and peacebuilding, and the sports provision is unusually broad for a city-centre women's college, spanning tennis, basketball, volleyball, badminton, athletics, table tennis, martial arts, yoga and chess. A dense set of student societies and cells runs the cultural and co-curricular life around these.
Hostel
Residence at LSR comes with a hard limit that out-of-city applicants should understand before they plan: accommodation in the college Residence Hall is offered to first-year students only, and residents must make their own arrangements for the second and third years. Places are allotted strictly on merit, and the prospectus notes that the number of seats is fixed and small, usually between one and three per department.
There are two further conditions worth reading early. Students who already live in the National Capital Region, specifically Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida, are not eligible for the hostel, and a room can be applied for only after you have secured admission to the college. The same prospectus puts the hostel fee at roughly Rs 11,000 to Rs 15,000 per month depending on the type of room, so budget for residence separately from the course fee.
Faculty
LSR does not publish a single consolidated figure for its teaching strength, so the honest measure is what the departments themselves list rather than a headcount an aggregator might quote. Each department publishes its own faculty with their specialisations: the Commerce Department, for example, names teachers working in finance, taxation, marketing and organisational behaviour, and the Computer Applications department is led by a professor specialising in cyber-security, information systems and audit.
Because the college is taught one department at a time, the roster that matters to you is the one for the subject you intend to read. The department pages on the official site carry the current names and areas of work, and reading them for your chosen honours tells you more than any overall staff number would.
Notable Alumni
LSR's alumnae record runs heavily through literature, law, public life and business, and the college documents it in its own prospectus rather than leaving it to secondary lists. Among the names it records:
- Geetanjali Shree, the Hindi novelist whose Ret Samadhi, translated as Tomb of Sand, won the International Booker Prize in 2022, the first book originally written in Hindi to do so.
- Indu Malhotra, the jurist who in 2018 became the first woman elevated directly from the Bar to the Supreme Court of India.
- Naina Lal Kidwai, the first Indian woman to graduate from Harvard Business School and later the first woman to head a foreign bank in India, honoured with the Padma Shri in 2007.
- Vinita Bali, the global business leader who went on to lead Britannia Industries, and Pinky Anand, a senior Supreme Court advocate and former Additional Solicitor General of India.
The through-line, borne out by the college's higher-study destinations, is that an LSR degree has more often been a springboard into scholarship, the bench, public administration and the arts than into a single corporate track. Meenakshi Gopinath, a political scientist and former principal of the college, sits in that same tradition, and the college names only alumnae whose records are documented rather than padding the list.
News & Articles
There is no Expertie news timeline for Lady Shri Ram yet, so this section points to the primary channels instead. LSR publishes its own notices, circulars and result lists in the notices section of its official website; in admission season the fastest-moving dated items, the CUET calendar, each CSAS round and the closing-score sheets, are released on DU's admission portal. Those are the two to watch for anything time-stamped.
College Compare
The fair comparison for LSR is the small set of top Delhi University colleges that admit through the same CUET and CSAS process, not institutions in another city or stream. Two things set it apart within that set. It is a South Delhi women's college rather than a North Campus one, which changes the daily geography of student life, and its strength is concentrated in the social sciences, the humanities and commerce rather than the laboratory sciences, where its offering is limited to Mathematics and Statistics.
Since every college in that set admits on the same CUET score through the same CSAS rounds and charges the same University-set fee, rank is rarely the input that decides it. What genuinely separates them for an LSR applicant is narrower: whether your strongest honours, Economics, Political Science, Psychology or English, closes lower here than at a North Campus rival, whether the social-sciences-and-commerce depth LSR is built on suits you better than a laboratory-science college, and whether a women-only campus in South Delhi is the daily setting you want. Those are the things to weigh against each college's own NIRF profile, not its place in a single list.
