The B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree is awarded under Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University at Ludhiana, at Rampura Phul in Bathinda and at an affiliated private college in Amritsar, all of them filled from the same NEET-UG merit list, and the six-monthly tuition on a state-quota seat is Rs 30,000 at the College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana and Rs 1,32,000 at the College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, while the Amritsar college charges Rs 1,80,000 six-monthly on its university-quota seat. Same statute, same degree, same rank list, and tuition lines that have almost nothing in common. Which of the three a Punjab candidate ends up in is decided in one hall in Ludhiana on a single counselling morning, so the numbers below are worth knowing before the merit list is even out.

Overview

Every degree this university awards is a livestock, fisheries or dairy degree; there is no agronomy or crop-science faculty anywhere in its structure, and the founding wording explains why. It was established at Ludhiana by an act of the Punjab Legislature No. 16 of 2005 notified in the Punjab Government Gazette on August 9, 2005 and it started functioning w.e.f. April 21, 2006 for promoting livestock production, health and prevention of the disease(s) through integrated teaching, research and extension programme(s). Both dates are correct and they are not interchangeable: the statute is dated 2005, the university began operating on 21 April 2006, and directories that quote a single founding year are usually quoting the Act.

The teaching predates both. The College of Veterinary Science was set up in 1969 as a constituent college of the Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. With the formation of new University, it became a part of the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in 2006. Punjab did not build a veterinary school in 2005; it took the one Punjab Agricultural University had been running since 1969, put a separate Act and a separate Vice-Chancellor around it, and narrowed the mandate to livestock, health and disease prevention. A candidate who searches for the 1969 college will find its history under two different universities, and only the post-2006 half belongs to this one.

What grew around that one college is now a set of teaching units under one registrar. The university's public disclosure to the University Grants Commission lists its constituent units as the College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana; College of Fisheries, Ludhiana; College of Dairy and Food Science Technology, Ludhiana; College of Animal Biotechnology, Ludhiana; College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul, Bathinda; Veterinary Polytechnic, Kaljharani, alongside two affiliated private colleges, Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar and Baba Hira Das Ji College of Vetrinary Pharmacy, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Badal, Punjab. That second list matters more than it looks: because a private college awards this university's B.V.Sc. degree, a fee-paying management quota exists inside the degree, at Amritsar, and it is priced on a sheet of its own.

Recognition comes from separate bodies rather than a single grade. The prospectus records that the University has been recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to receive central assistance under section 12(B) of UGC Act, 1956 and that it has got accreditation from UGC and Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and has been admitted as a regular member of the Association of Indian Agricultural Universities (AIAU) and Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The council's own circular puts a term on it, listing the university at Grade A from 01/04/2023 to 31/03/2028 and naming the exact degrees covered at each college, starting with B. V. Sc. & AH at the Ludhiana veterinary college. Under the heading its own UGC self-disclosure reserves for Accreditation/ Ranking Status (NAAC, NBA, NIRF), the only accreditation document the university links is that ICAR certificate; no NAAC cycle, grade or CGPA is published there, and none appears in the NAAC institution register. A reader who expects an A++ style grade on a state university page will not find one here, and its absence is not a mark against the campus so much as a sign that ICAR, not NAAC, is the body this sector answers to. A separate professional gate applies to the degree itself: completing B.V.Sc. & A.H. here entitles the graduates to seek mandatory registration with Punjab State Veterinary Council/VCI as a Registered Veterinary Practitioner.

Courses & Fees

One of the bachelor's degrees is the veterinary degree and the rest are four-year programmes in dairy technology, food technology, biotechnology and fisheries science. B.V.Sc. & A.H. runs a minimum duration of 5½ years built in pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical phases plus a compulsory rotational internship.

The veterinary fee is where the colleges part company, and the split does not run the way most applicants assume. A state-quota seat at the flagship Ludhiana college is the cheapest thing in the system; the newer Bathinda college charges far more on the same category of seat.

The Amritsar college is billed on a different sheet again, and the quotas inside it are separate markets. Tuition there is Rs 1,80,000 six-monthly on the university quota, Rs 3,80,000 on the management quota and Rs 4,37,500 on the special management quota, and what a family actually hands over on the first day is Rs 3,22,500 for a university-quota hosteller, Rs 5,22,500 on the management quota and Rs 5,80,000 on the special management quota, refundable securities of Rs 60,000 included. A candidate nominated by the Veterinary Council of India who lands at Amritsar pays the university-quota rate rather than the management one, because the prospectus states that Indian Resident Students admitted through VCI Quota are to pay fee as per University Quota candidates.

Two clauses in the small print apply to every one of these figures. The university reserves the right to raise charges at any time and warns that an Annual incremental increase of 10% in the fee structure shall be applicable to the constituent and affiliated colleges of the university, so a five-and-a-half-year degree is not priced at today's table. And the internship year now carries its own bill: from 2026-27 onwards, students of the Ludhiana and Rampura Phul colleges pay a one-time internship charge totalling Rs 30,000 when they enrol in the internship programme.

The four-year degrees are an order of magnitude cheaper, and the fisheries degree is the cheapest seat the university sells.

M.Sc. (MB&BT) under the DBT teaching programmeRs 10,000Rs 58,630

A candidate from outside Punjab pays more on the same seat wherever a self-financing rate exists: B.F.Sc. tuition rises to Rs 15,000 and dairy technology to Rs 35,000 a semester for the self-financed, other-state and migrated categories. At postgraduate level the self-financed rate is a different animal altogether, at Rs 3,30,000 a semester in the Ludhiana veterinary college against Rs 1,00,000 in the dairy, fisheries and biotechnology colleges.

Money coming the other way is modest but real, and the two headline awards are merit-linked rather than means-tested. The university pays a University Scholarship valued at Rs 1000/- per month to the meritorious students of undergraduate programmes on the basis of score/rank/marks obtained in the qualifying test/examination merit list for admission, while the national award is worth three times that: The ICAR/VCI awards merit scholarships in undergraduate programmes for the full duration of the degree programme subject to fulfillment of prescribed conditions. The value of scholarship is Rs.3000/- per month for UG student. Scheduled Caste applicants whose family income is below the Post Matric Scholarship ceiling can also join without paying up front, because all eligible students shall be entitled to take admission in the institutions without pre payment of tuition fee and hostel fees (but will pay refundable charges) once a Freeship Card is issued by the Punjab government, and the university is blunt that those without Freeship card will have to deposit the full fee.

Admissions

The programme decides the qualifying route, and only the veterinary degree runs on a national entrance test.

Ph.D.Merit of the qualifying degree examination and an interview

For B.V.Sc. & A.H. the university is explicit that the ranking instrument is the national test and nothing else: Merit of eligible applicants will be prepared based on the NEET-UG-2026 All India Rank/Score, with ties settled by the "One candidate One rank" criteria of NEET-UG-2026 Merit List. There is no state veterinary entrance test at undergraduate level here, and no engineering test either: a candidate preparing JEE is preparing for the wrong university.

Board marks still gate the application before the rank is looked at. The candidate must hold a minimum qualification of 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English from an Indian Board/University recognized by Council of Boards of School Education with at least 50% marks (47.5% for SC/ST, BC and DP categories) in aggregate excluding the optional subject(s), and only those securing equal to or more than the NEET-UG-2026 cut-off marks as per category are considered. One medical bar is specific to this degree and catches applicants late: candidates for B.V.Sc. & A.H., including those under the VCI quota, are not considered if they have disability of total body, including disability of chest/spine more than 50%, disability of lower limb of more than 50%, disability of upper limb or are visually handicapped or hearing disabled, a set of exclusions the university attributes to the national minimum standards for veterinary education.

Applying is not cheap and the veterinary form is priced apart from the rest. The B.V.Sc. application fee is Rs. 6,000/- (to be paid online), or Rs. 7700/- with late fee, while the other undergraduate degrees share a single application form at Rs 2000/- for the first counselling. A VCI nominee deposits Rs. 2,000/- with the admission fee in the office of the Dean of the veterinary college concerned, and anyone entering at the mop-up or stray round pays Rs. 10,000/- additional fee on the veterinary degree.

The calendar splits the same way. The four-year degrees ran to a fixed timetable for 2026-27, closing applications on 01.06.2026 (upto 11.59 PM) with counselling on 15.06.2026 and 16.06.2026, a second round on 13.07.2026 and a third on 21.08.2026, with the session starting 03.08.2026. The veterinary dates could not be printed at all, because they hang on the national result: they are only notified at the university website after declaration of NEET-UG-2026 Result, with registration for the veterinary session set for 07.09.2026. Counselling for the undergraduate degrees is held in person at Dr. Jasmer Singh Hall (Silver Jubilee Block), College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana at 9.00 AM, whichever college the seat is in.

Postgraduate entry is the one place where the university runs its own examination, and it is written to the veterinary syllabus rather than to a general science paper. Admission to M.V.Sc. is on the MET-Vet 2026-27 Score (Weightage-100%), whose syllabus is the B.V.Sc. & A.H. syllabus as prescribed by VCI as per Minimum Standards of Veterinary Education-2016 and whose paper carries 180 multiple-choice questions at 04 marks each for a total of 720 marks in 03 hours, with -01 for a wrong answer. The other master's programmes need no test at all and run on qualifying-degree merit, and a doctoral applicant needs an OCPA/OGPA of 7.000/10.000 or 70% marks in aggregate in the Master's degree before the interview counts.

Cutoff

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University does not publish a closing rank for a B.V.Sc. & A.H. seat, and no number on this page should be read as one. What it publishes after the national result is a set of category-wise provisional merit lists, and it attaches a warning to them: the merit has been provisionally derived on the basis of the NEET-UG-2026 particulars/credentials furnished by the candidates in their online applications and shall be subject to verification of the original documents and NEET-UG-2026 credentials at the time of counselling. Merit can therefore be revised after a document check, and a seat closes wherever the queue physically reaches on counselling day at Dr. Jasmer Singh Hall.

Those lists are broken out into ten separate queues rather than one, and the split is worth understanding before an applicant guesses at a threshold. The university posts a general list and separate lists for SCHEDULED CASTE/SCHEDULED TRIBE CATEGORY, BACKWARD CLASS CATEGORY, FREEDOM FIGHTER CATEGORY, TERRORIST AFFECTED CATEGORY, ECONOMICALLY WEAKER SECTION CATEGORY, DISABLED PERSON CATEGORY, KASHMIRI MIGRANT CATEGORY, ARMED FORCES CATEGORY and OTHER STATE CATEGORY, each ordered on NEET-UG All India Rank. The sports-quota list is settled last and separately: a tentative list of candidates who lodged their supporting documents by 25.08.2026 is finalised on 02.09.2026 after trials. Those queues run to very different lengths and open at very different ranks, which is why a figure quoted as "the GADVASU cutoff" without a category attached carries no information.

The only fixed bar the university itself imposes is the national one. Only candidates securing equal to or more than the NEET-UG-2026 cut-off marks as per category are considered, and the National Testing Agency sets that qualifying score, not Ludhiana. Above it, everything is queue position, and queue position depends on how many people in your category applied to this particular university in this particular year.

For the four-year degrees there is no rank at all to chase, because merit is board marks and the tie-breaks are subject-specific. Where two candidates tie on the dairy technology aggregate the seat goes to the candidate obtaining higher marks in Mathematics in 10+2 examination, then chemistry, then physics, then age; on the fisheries degree the same ladder starts with the candidate obtaining higher marks in Biology in 10+2 examination. A single board subject, not an entrance score, is what separates two applicants for a B.F.Sc. or B.Tech. seat here.

Placements

Two records exist for what happens to a GADVASU graduate, and they answer different questions. The ranking return counts placements and salaries; the university's own placement office counts destinations, and the destinations are where the veterinary economy of Punjab actually shows up.

Programme bandGraduated in minimum time, 2023-24PlacedMedian salaryHigher studies
UG, 5-year programmes10353Rs 4,80,00039
UG, 4-year programmes6421Rs 3,00,00021
PG, 2-year programmes4828Rs 5,71,20013

The five-year veterinary line has moved in two directions at once over three cohorts. Placements ran 74 of 85 graduates in 2021-22 and 72 of 85 in 2022-23, then fell to 53 of 103 in 2023-24, while the count going on to further study rose from 11 to 39 across the same three years. The median for a placed veterinary graduate moved from Rs 3,00,000 to Rs 5,71,200 and then to Rs 4,80,000. A larger class chasing a specialisation rather than a first job is not a hiring failure, but a candidate weighing the five and a half years should assume a master's seat is part of the plan rather than an optional extra.

The destination record goes back much further and is far more revealing about the profession. Across every bachelor's batch the placement cell has tracked, 1554 graduates left with 399 entering government service, 376 going to industry or the private sector, 65 becoming self-employed, 365 continuing in education and 257 going abroad. That works out at 25.67% into government service and 24.19% into industry, with 16.53% leaving the country.

The higher up the degree ladder, the more state-sector the destination becomes. Of 881 master's graduates recorded, 412 went into government service against 248 into industry, and of 173 doctoral graduates 131 did, a government-service share of 75.72%. The diploma is the opposite case: of 665 diploma holders, 206 became self-employed, a share of 30.97% that no other level here comes close to. Read together, a doctorate at Ludhiana points at a government scientist's post and the two-year diploma points at running your own animal-health practice.

Who does the recruiting is published as a list rather than as a package figure, and its composition matches those destinations. The university names State Animal Husbandry Department, Punjab, Punjab Dairy Development Board, Govt of Punjab, MILKFED, Punjab, Punjab Fisheries Development Board among the governmental agencies, alongside the Agricultural Scientists Recruitment Board, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, National Dairy Development Board, National Fisheries Development Board and the Remount Veterinary Corps, Army Service Corps , Defense Services. On the private side it lists Nestle India Limited, Moga, Punjab Meats Limited, Derabassi, Godrej Tyson Private Limited, Pune, Godrej Agro-Vet Private Limited, Khanna, Venkateshwara Hatcheries Private Limited and animal-health and pharmaceutical firms including Virbac India Private Limited, Indepesca Overseas Private Limited, Provet Pharma Private Limited, Intas Pharma Private Limited, Biostadt India Limited and Indian Immunologicals Private Limited. No highest package and no recruiter-wise offer count is published, so neither appears here.

Seat Matrix

The veterinary intake is three separate grids, not one pool, and a large slice of each is gone before the Punjab merit list is applied to it. Everything in the reservation columns below is carved out of the seats meant for Punjab State and the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Veterinary collegeTotal seatsCarved out firstGeneralSC/STBCPersons with disability

KCVAS Amritsar, university side5015 VCI, 7 EWS, 1 employee ward13731
KCVAS Amritsar, management side5015 NRI or special management, on an all India basis18932

The Amritsar rows need reading together rather than separately, because the prospectus prints them as two tables of 50 and then reconciles them in a footnote. The affiliate's hundred B.V.Sc. seats break down as 15 filled by Veterinary Council of India nominees, 70 (35 University Quota & 35 Management Quota) seats for residents of Punjab state & Union Territory of Chandigarh, and 15 seats for NRI/ Special Management Quota (SMQ). So the 50-seat university table is 35 university-quota seats once the 15 VCI nominations are lifted out of it, and the 50-seat management table is 35 management seats plus the 15 NRI or special management seats offered On All India Basis. A Punjab applicant is therefore competing for 70 Amritsar seats, not 100, and half of those 70 are at the management price.

The Ludhiana grid is the one to study. Of its 100 seats, 15 (VCI) go to candidates nominated by the Veterinary Council of India and another 15(NRI) to non-resident and overseas citizen applicants, so those two blocks together are settled outside the state merit list before a single Punjab rank is read. Vacant NRI seats do not lapse to the general queue either: they are shifted to self-financed categories at Ludhiana and to category II (self-financed) at Rampura Phul, which is to say a seat that starts as an overseas seat can end up as a full-price seat rather than a subsidised one.

The reservation percentages behind those columns are set once and applied to every programme in the university: Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) 25, Backward Class (BC) 10, Children/Grandchildren of Freedom Fighters (FF) 1, Children/Wards of Defence Personnel 2, Children/Grandchildren of Terrorist Affected Persons (TA) 2, Persons with Disability (DP) 5, Economically Weaker Section 10, Outstanding Sports Persons (SP) in UG programmes or upto 10+2 2 per cent.

The other bachelor's degrees are far smaller, and two of them hold a national quota that the veterinary degree does not.

Each of them then carries additional seats outside that total, and one of those categories is unusual enough to name. On dairy technology the extras run 1 for Kashmiri migrants, 1 for a ward of a GADVASU employee, 5 for candidates from other states, 3 for candidates from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh under the PMSSS scheme, and one each for rural area, backward area and border area candidates, with 3 self-financed seats on top. Border-area and backward-area quotas are a Punjab administrative category rather than a national one, and they sit on every four-year degree here.

Postgraduate seats are published discipline by discipline, with ICAR and VCI nominations shown separately in brackets, and the clinical departments carry the deepest benches.

The dairy, fisheries and biotechnology colleges run smaller postgraduate grids on the same pattern, from 4+(2) master's seats in Dairy Technology and 4 + (1) in Aquaculture to a DBT-sponsored 10 seat M.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology with specialisation in animal biotechnology, the one master's programme filled through GAT-B. One allotment rule inside that table catches EWS applicants in particular. The veterinary college's four additional seats for the Economically Weaker Section are not attached to named disciplines; the sixteen master's disciplines are sorted into four groups, and in every academic year, one seat will be allotted to each group of disciplines. A candidate picks one discipline from a group on merit, and the next candidate cannot opt for the same discipline in which seat has been allocated in previous year(s), with a discipline reopening to the EWS quota only every third year. An EWS applicant set on one department may find it closed for reasons that have nothing to do with their marks.

The two-year diploma has the largest intake in the university and is spread across three campuses, one of them private.

Rankings

No engineering, management, medical or overall NIRF table carries this university's name. The one that does is agriculture and allied sectors, where the 2025 edition places it 30th with a total of 50.02 out of 100. The five columns behind that total are nearly 50 points apart end to end, which is a wider internal spread than the headline rank suggests.

NIRF 2025 parameterScore out of 100
Teaching, Learning and Resources77.57
Outreach and Inclusivity54.24
Graduation Outcomes46.57
Research and Professional Practice30.31
Perception29.29

Teaching resource at 77.57 against perception at 29.29 describes a well-staffed, well-equipped campus that the wider academic and employer community does not yet rate at the same level. For a Punjab applicant that gap is mostly good news, since the parameter measuring what you actually receive is the strong one. For a candidate weighing an offer from outside the state against a stronger national brand, perception is the honest counterweight, and it is the column to interrogate before moving states for this degree.

The intake and roll behind the score explain the shape of the campus. The university reported a sanctioned intake for 2023-24 of 120 on its four-year programmes, 100 on the five-year veterinary programme and 135 at master's level, against a standing roll of 631 students on the five-year programme, 255 on the four-year programmes and 251 at master's. One line in that return is worth pausing on: of the 631 students on the veterinary programme, 505 are from within the state, 54 from outside it and 72 from outside the country. More overseas students sit in these veterinary classrooms than students from the rest of India, which is the NRI quota showing up in the roll.

Departments

The College of Veterinary Science is the largest teaching unit and is organised by clinical and para-clinical discipline rather than by school. It carries 17 departments, credited in the prospectus with excellent laboratory facilities and infrastructure for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and research, and the departmental menu on the college's own site runs from Animal Genetics and Breeding, Animal Nutrition, Livestock Production Management, Livestock Products Technology through Veterinary Anatomy, Veterinary Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Parasitology, Veterinary Pathology, Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology, Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry, Veterinary Surgery & Radiology to three units that are not conventional departments at all: an Animal Disease Research Centre, a Centre of one Health and the Directorate of Livestock Farms.

The other degree colleges each arrived at a different moment in the university's short life, and knowing which is which tells you how settled a programme is.

Two of those merit a second look before an applicant picks a college on the counselling floor. The Bathinda veterinary college became functional on October 1, 2019 by admitting 80 students to the B.V.Sc & A.H. programme with the VCI approval, which means the first cohort of graduates from it is very recent and its mandate is regional: to overcome the deficiency of veterinary professionals in the state, especially in the south-western zone of Punjab. The biotechnology college grew the other way, from a department to a school to a college, and now runs three departments viz., Animal Biotechnology, Microbial & Environmental Biotechnology and Bioinformatics covering genomics, molecular diagnostics, vaccinology, stem cell biology, cancer biology, proteomics, and bioinformatics.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The number that decides how much clinical work an undergraduate here actually sees is the hospital caseload. The Teaching Veterinary Hospital at Ludhiana runs an annual OPD of approximately 32,000 farm and pet animal patients, draws animal owners from across north India, and is also a referral centre for private and government veterinarians. Its diagnostic side is the part an undergraduate actually gets hands on: the hospital owns a well equipped central diagnostic laboratory along with other advanced diagnostic facilities such as endoscopy, echocardiography, digital radiology and ultrasonography, and it is split into Small Animal Clinics for pets, Primary and Specialization units for farm animals, Clinical Diagnostic Laboratory, Ambulatory Clinics for providing services to remote farmers.

The livestock the degree is about is kept on campus rather than visited. The Directorate of Livestock Farms was created in the year 2015 and it houses 750 dairy animals including crossbred cattle, buffalo (Murrah and Nili Ravi) and Sahiwal cattle, with a poultry breeding farm holding flock strengths of 4000 layers, 6000 broilers, 2000 Japanese quails and 100 Turkey, roughly 200 goats and 60 pigs, plus 125 acre of fodder area under cultivation. It also runs a Reproductive Biotechnology Unit working on semen and embryo production, cryo-preservation and embryo transfer. The practical consequence for an undergraduate is that the Farm Management Practices courses are taught on this stock rather than on a visiting placement.

The specialist facilities sit in the individual colleges rather than in one central block. The dairy college runs an Experimental Dairy Plant throughout the year, which facilitates hands-on-training for students; the fisheries college holds an instructional and research farm spread over an area of 6 ha alongside five departments; and the biotechnology college hosts the university's central instrumentation facility, whose equipment list includes a Nanopore Sequencer, Pentahead Microscope, Ultracentrifuge(floor model), Biosafety cabinet and a Bench-top flow cytometer, and is extended to other institutes as well as to the university's own students.

The library is built around the agricultural consortium rather than around a private subscription list. It provides access to about 4000 journals in the broad spectrum of Agricultural Sciences including Veterinary Sciences, Animal Husbandry, Livestock Management & Poultry Sciences, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Animal Nutrition and allied subjects through the Consortium for electronic Resources in Agriculture (CeRA), holds perpetual access to 489 e-books in addition to 1174 e-books accessible through CeRA, and runs on a lease line of 100 Mbps with 24 hours connectivity provided under NKN Project.

Where the money went is a fair proxy for what gets refreshed. In 2023-24 the university spent 77420766 rupees of capital budget on new equipment for laboratories against 431456 rupees on the library, and the library figure had itself fallen from 7933851 rupees two years earlier. Physically challenged students are covered to one declared standard across the estate, the submission answering more than 80% of the buildings to the question about lifts and ramps and giving the same answer for specially designed toilets.

Hostel

Hostel charges here are not one number but a menu, and the range between the cheapest and dearest bed is wider than the entire tuition bill on some degrees. Rent and maintenance are billed six-monthly, on top of a one-time refundable Hostel Security of 8300 rupees.

Room type, six-monthly rent and maintenanceAmount
Non-AC dormitory or quadruple roomRs 3,300
Non-AC tripleRs 4,400
Non-AC doubleRs 7,260
Non-AC double with attached bathroomRs 8,000
Non-AC cubicleRs 10,890
AC quadruple, without attached bathroomRs 10,000
AC triple, without attached bathroomRs 13,750
AC double, without attached bathroomRs 21,175
AC triple, with attached bathroomRs 20,000
AC double, with attached bathroomRs 30,250
AC cubicle, without attached bathroomRs 36,300
AC cubicle, with attached bathroomRs 45,000
G+8 multi storey hostel, without kitchenetteRs 45,000
G+8 multi storey hostel, with kitchenetteRs 50,000

Three things follow from that table. A bed in a non-AC quadruple costs less for six months than the examination fee charged over the same period, while a room in the G+8 multi-storey hostel costs more, for the same six months, than the entire state-quota tuition bill at the Ludhiana veterinary college. The escalator applies here too, since the hostel fee is applicable with a minimum 10% annual increase or as approved by the University. And hostellers carry the electricity risk collectively, because the electricity bills received in excess of the electricity fund collections, shall be proportionately charged from the residents of the respective hostels.

Away from Ludhiana the arrangements differ again. Diploma students at Rampura Phul and Kaljharani pay a semester hostel fee of 10700 rupees plus a 3300 rupee electricity fund and a refundable 6000 rupee security, which takes a general-category diploma student from 76000 rupees at first admission without hostel to 96000 with it.

At the Amritsar affiliate the six-monthly hostel rent runs 23,000 rupees for a dormitory bed and 30,000 rupees for a cubicle, with electricity charged separately.

Faculty

The teaching body is large relative to the degree roll. GADVASU entered 260 faculty members in its ranking return, and the salary line behind them, 1278548667 rupees of operational spending on teaching and non-teaching staff in 2023-24, dwarfs every other figure the university reported, capital and operational alike.

What those staff supervise is a small doctoral cohort that turns over unusually fast. Only 78 students were pursuing a doctorate here full time, none part time, yet 40 doctorates were awarded in 2023-24, after 35 and 20 in the two preceding years. Graduating that many off that roll in a single year is an unusual pattern, and it means an incoming research student joins a department that has just emptied and refilled rather than one with a long queue ahead of it.

Sponsored research is the number a research applicant should look at hardest, because it has been falling for three years. Funding received ran 479810031 rupees in 2021-22 across 90 projects, then 341986330 rupees across 99 projects, then 166725078 rupees across 76 projects from 23 agencies in 2023-24, the lowest of the three years. Consultancy runs the other way but from a tiny base, at 6 projects for 6 client organisations worth 28037942 rupees in 2023-24. The research and professional practice score of 30.31 on the national table is consistent with that trajectory, and the honest advice for a doctoral applicant is to ask which funder is behind the specific project before committing three years to it.

One distinction here is not about students at all. The Ludhiana veterinary college has distinction of having three ICAR Centers of Advance Faculty Training in Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and Veterinary Pathology, which means teachers from veterinary colleges elsewhere in India are sent here to be trained in surgery, obstetrics and pathology. A postgraduate applicant to one of those three departments is applying to a unit the council treats as a national trainer of trainers.

Notable Alumni

The university keeps an alumni association for the veterinary college and a page headed Distinguished Alumni, but that page currently reads Under Construction and names nobody. Nothing on the university's own pages ties a named graduate to a later career, and a name lifted from a third-party profile is not evidence of one, so the list stays empty rather than borrowed. What the record does support is a count rather than a roll: the placement office's own tables cover 1554 bachelor's graduates, 881 master's graduates and 173 doctoral graduates whose destinations it tracked, and the Alumni Association of the College of Veterinary Science is the office to write to for tracing a graduate of a given year.

News & Articles

This page carries no news feed and nothing on it is a bulletin. GADVASU posts its own announcements in three places rather than one, and which one matters depends on what an applicant is waiting for: the ADMISSION 2026-27 block on the front page carries prospectuses, application forms and counselling notices; the Notice Board for Students carries in-session notices; and the Download Corner carries forms and circulars. Veterinary admission dates in particular are not published in advance anywhere else, because the prospectus states they are only notified at the university website after declaration of NEET-UG-2026 Result. Anyone tracking a B.V.Sc. seat should be checking gadvasu.in daily in the week after the national result, not waiting for a third-party alert.

College Compare

Comparing this university against a general one is not useful, because nothing outside the animal sciences is taught here. The comparison that carries information is against the other institutions ranked in the same NIRF table, and three of them frame the choice.

NIRF 2025, agriculture and allied sectorsRankTotalTeaching, Learning and ResourcesResearch and Professional PracticePerception

Lala Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Hisar3748.0378.3124.9618.43

Two readings follow. Against the veterinary universities immediately around it, GADVASU is not behind on what it delivers to a student: its teaching, learning and resources score of 77.57 sits above Chennai's and its research score of 30.31 is the higher of the three veterinary entries. Where it loses ground is perception, at 29.29 against 60.25 for the Chennai university, which is a reputational gap rather than a resource one. Against its own former parent in the same city, the gap is real and across the board, but the two are not substitutes: Punjab Agricultural University's table position is built on crop and agricultural sciences, and it does not award a B.V.Sc. & A.H. at all. A candidate choosing between the two is choosing a field, not a rank.

Contact & Location

The prospectus gives the university's postal address as Ludhiana 141 004 and no street line, so a courier or a visit is best routed through the specific office rather than a generic campus address. Admission, examination, hostel and fee matters each run through a different desk, and writing to the Registrar about a merit-list query, or to a Dean about a fee refund, is the commonest way an applicant loses a week.

The university's own Contact Us page adds separate lines for the Teaching Veterinary Hospital, the Animal Disease and Research Centre and the Library, and it is the right place to check before dialling, since office numbers change more often than the prospectus is reprinted.

Counselling is not held at the college whose seat is on offer. For every undergraduate programme it runs at Dr. Jasmer Singh Hall (Silver Jubilee Block), College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana at 9.00 AM, so a candidate hoping for Rampura Phul or Amritsar still travels to Ludhiana on the day. One jurisdiction clause is worth noting before signing anything: disputes go to the Courts at Ludhiana only, except for the Amritsar affiliate, where any kind of dispute/Litigation, legal matters will be settled in the Amritsar jurisdiction.
