Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur

Raipur, Chhattisgarh Est. 1987 Official site Updated
NIRF Agriculture
#28

Nearly half of a graduating class here goes straight back into a classroom rather than into a job. In the return the university filed for the 2026 ranking round, covering 2024-25, 1,066 undergraduates finished within the stipulated time, 528 were placed, and 496 were selected for higher studies. That split is the honest starting point for anyone weighing Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya in Raipur, because it says the degree is read as much as a research entry ticket as a hiring credential. The other thing worth knowing before you apply is that the three undergraduate degrees on this campus do not share an entrance route, and the agriculture degree is the only one of the three that a JEE Main rank cannot open.

Overview

IGKV is a state agricultural university whose teaching estate is older than the university itself. The campus began as a colonial research farm: the university records that in the British regime agricultural research station at Labhandi Farm was established in the year 1903, that the centre was recognised as a Rice Research Station in the mid-sixties and converted to Madhya Pradesh Rice Research Institute in 1974 under the leadership of great rice scientist, Late Dr. R. H. Richharia, and that The College of Agriculture, Raipur was established in 1961 at this center. The teaching college spent its first decades as an outpost of another university, becoming a constituent college of Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur in 1964.

Independence came with the map. In 1987, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya was established as an independent university after being bifurcated from Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Jabalpur, and the university dates its own founding precisely to January 20, 1987, thirteen years before Chhattisgarh became a state. That sequence matters to an applicant for one practical reason: the founding statute is a Madhya Pradesh law that Chhattisgarh inherited rather than wrote.

The governing instrument is named in full on the university's own record. IGKV runs under Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam (Act) 1987 of Madhya Pradesh State and Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya statutes 1987 (9 September 1987) and with subsequent amendments (4 October 1990, 26 September 1994 and 15 March 1995), and under the powers in section 38 of the Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya Adhiniyam 1987 (No. 20 of 1987), the State Govt. made 68 Statutes covered under 9 chapters. Those statutes, not a departmental circular, are what govern admissions, fees, hostels and scholarships here.

The reach is unusually wide for a single university. IGKV describes itself as the single agricultural university of state serving 33 districts and 03 different Agro-climatic Zones, teaching through 28 constituent & 11 Affiliated colleges of Agriculture, Agril. Engineering and Food Technology, although the 2026 university directory counts the private side lower, at 7 Agriculture and 2 Agricultural Engineering colleges affiliated to IGKV. Read the two together and the picture is a stable government network with a smaller, moving private tail attached to it, so an applicant should confirm that a private affiliated college is still on the list in the year they apply.

Research and extension sit alongside teaching rather than behind it. The university runs nine research stations and, by its own count, 27 Krishi Vigyan Kendras spread through the districts, on a total campus area of 1100 acres with 7,755+ alumni recorded. The directory places those stations at Raipur, Jagdalpur, Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Kawardha, Mainpat, Bhatapara and Chhuikhadan, while the factsheet counts 08 Research Centers, so the two documents differ by one and neither says why. Head counts diverge the same way: the profile panel gives 12,206 active students, the factsheet says The total students on roll in the university in 2023-24 are 11592, and the ranking return, which counts only the programmes it ranks, adds up to well under either. For a B.Sc. student that translates into a working farm and a genebank on the same site as the lecture halls rather than a field trip away.

One quality mark that applicants often assume is present here is not, and the university admits it without saying so. Its public self-disclosure page carries a heading for accreditation and ranking status covering NAAC, NBA and NIRF, and the only certificate filed under that heading is the NIRF one; no NAAC grade appears there, on the rest of the site, or in the ranking submission, and IGKV is absent from NAAC's list of institutions holding valid accreditation. It is absent too from ICAR's published list of accredited agricultural universities, their colleges and degree programmes, a list on which the neighbouring Chhattisgarh veterinary university at Durg does appear. Absence from an accreditation list is not a judgment on teaching quality, and the degrees remain state university degrees; it simply means the usual grade shorthand is unavailable and you should judge this campus on its ranking submission and its published record instead.

Courses & Fees

Three undergraduate degrees, a wide postgraduate spread and a doctoral programme in nineteen disciplines make up the whole offer. The university lists its own catalogue as 03 UG, 20 PG and 19 Ph.D. degree courses across the two faculties.

The undergraduate degrees run four years and the master's degrees two, which is how the ranking framework classifies them in the university's own submission as UG [4 Years Program(s)] and PG [2 Year Program(s)]. Teaching is organised on a semester calendar: The university follows a semester system with 2 semesters per year, and fee heads are billed per semester rather than per year, which is why an annual figure quoted anywhere for this campus is a reconstruction rather than something the university publishes.

The fee is published, but not in any form that can be quoted. IGKV puts its schedules on its fee structure page as separate signed office orders, one for undergraduate seats at government colleges, one for undergraduate seats at private colleges, one for postgraduate programmes and one for doctoral programmes. Every one of the four is a photographed page of a signed order carrying no text layer at all, so not one amount IGKV charges can be lifted from a machine-readable source, and a guessed figure would be worse than none. The shape of the tables is legible even so, and it is worth knowing before you open them: the undergraduate order runs a separate numbered appendix per programme, each an eight-column grid for four years of two semesters, with a combined tuition and other fees line, an examination fee, a one-off enrolment charge alongside college and library caution money in the first semester, a degree fee in the last, and a hosteller block totalled underneath the day-scholar block. The link text on the fee page names an older session than the heading printed inside the documents, so trust the document.

Download the schedule that matches your programme and your college type before counselling. The two undergraduate orders are separate documents, and the affiliated-college order prints a visibly larger tuition line than the government-college order does for the same B.Sc. Agriculture seat, which makes the college you are allotted a bigger swing in the bill than the degree you picked; open both scans side by side rather than treating a private affiliated college as a like-for-like fallback. An applicant from outside Chhattisgarh should also ask about the National Talent Scholarship, which the university credits with widening its intake: it says The support provided as NTS to UG and PG students has attracted large number of students from other states.

Two fee facts the university does state in plain text are worth carrying into the calculation. First, the state absorbs the cost for a large group: No fee is charged for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes, as the fee is reimbursed by the government. Second, that reimbursement is not a small programme at the edges of the roll. In the 2024-25 ranking return the university recorded that of its undergraduate students, 5,288 were receiving full tuition fee reimbursement from the state and central government, 304 from institution funds and 13 from private bodies, leaving only 142 students paying full tuition themselves. At postgraduate level the same return shows 1,176 reimbursed by government against 47 paying in full. For most families reading this page, the schedule that matters is the reimbursement paperwork, not the tuition line.

International applicants get less help than domestic ones. The university's programme fee page for international admissions is still carrying unfilled template rows, with placeholder course names and blank tuition and admission fee fields, so a foreign national has no published figure to work from and has to write to the university directly.

Admissions

The entrance route is decided by the degree, and the three undergraduate programmes split two ways. B.Sc. Agriculture runs on the state agriculture test: The admission to B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons) is confirmed based on merit in the CG PAT of the State Board. The state board's own notice board names that exam and the degrees it feeds across Chhattisgarh, IGKV's agriculture seats among them, listing PAT-2026 for Admission in BSc (Hons.) Agriculture, BSc (Hons.) Horticulture, BSc (Hons.) Forestry, B.Tech (Dairy Technology), Diploma in Animal Husbandry, Diploma in Fisheries Science among the exams it conducts. There is no JEE paper and no NEET paper in this route, and IGKV runs no veterinary degree, so a NEET score buys nothing on this campus.

The two engineering degrees are the part where the university's own documents disagree, and the counselling board is the one to follow. The factsheet gives a single route: Admission to B. Tech. of Agriculture Engineering/ Food Technology is offered based on performance in the Pre-Engineering Test (PET). The 2026-27 counselling board is wider. IGKV published its second-round merit list for vacant B.Tech (Agricultural Engineering) and B.Tech (Food Technology) seats and told candidates to look under Admission, UG Admissions, PET/JEE Mains/12th-Second Round, which puts the state pre-engineering test, JEE Main and class 12 marks in play together, and it later set document verification for PAT and (10+2) based counselling on 07 and 08 September 2026 at Krishi Mandapam, naming the school-marks route alongside the agriculture test in one notice. Where the factsheet and the counselling notice disagree, the notice is the operative one, so confirm the accepted routes on the board for the year you apply.

Postgraduate and doctoral entry is the university's own examination, not a national one. The admissions to Postgraduate courses are allocated based on the merit in the Common Entrance Test (CET) for graduates of Agriculture conducted by IGKV, Raipur. For Ph.D. also a Common Entrance Test is also conducted by the university and admission criteria include performance in CET and academic score in post-graduation. A doctoral candidate is therefore scored twice, once on the entrance paper and once on the master's record. The weighting between the two is not given on the factsheet, on the how to apply pages or on the counselling board, and the doctoral admission rules are published as a scan, so ask the Academic Section rather than assuming an equal split.

The mechanics of the process are the same at every level and they reward being organised. The undergraduate sequence is a counselling application with documents uploaded, a merit list, seat allotment followed by document verification, and then payment: After DVC, Candidate need to pay the fee for the desired course. After successfull payment, seat will be confirmed and have to visit to the alloted college/department. At postgraduate and doctoral level the same page adds the test in front of it, with the CET application, admit card, result and merit list preceding the counselling rounds. Registration is on the university's own portal, and all further communication runs through the email address and mobile number you register with, so a wrong entry there is expensive.

Cutoff

No closing rank or closing score is published for any IGKV programme. We looked on the university counselling board, on the how to apply pages and on the state board's own notice list, and what exists is a merit list and a seat allotment you read after logging in, not a table of the last candidate admitted. Anything circulating as an IGKV cutoff has been reconstructed by a third party from those lists.

What the 2026 counselling record does tell you is more useful than a cutoff number would be, because it shows how far down the queue seats were still moving. After the first PAT-based allotment for B.Sc. (Ag.) (Hons.) on 19th August 2026, the university ran spot counselling all the way to PAT 2026 Spot Counseling Round 10 on 2nd September, and then noted that the Last Round of Conversion Counseling for PAT 2026 has been done. Ten spot rounds inside three days is not the profile of a campus that fills on the first list.

The practical reading for an applicant is that turning up matters as much as the score, and that the margin for doing so shrank as the queue moved. The opening spot round gave a three hour window for document verification and fee deposit; by the tenth it was thirty minutes, under the standing instruction that a Candidate has to deposit fee immediately to confirm their seat at Krishi Mandapam, college of Agriculture, Raipur. A candidate who is short of the first-list merit but able to reach Raipur at short notice with documents and fee in hand has a real path here that a candidate watching from a distance does not.

Placements

The university files three years of placement data with the ranking framework, and it is the only placement record on this campus that carries a method. Read the undergraduate rows first.

Graduating yearGraduated in stipulated timePlacedMedian salary of placed graduatesSelected for higher studies
2024-251,066528825,000496
2023-241,293608790,000632
2022-231,166541760,000578

The postgraduate rows are smaller and pay better, and their hit rate has fallen rather than risen: 172 of 273 were placed in 2022-23 against 107 of 217 in 2024-25.

Graduating yearGraduated in stipulated timePlacedMedian salary of placed graduatesSelected for higher studies
2024-25217107920,000101
2023-2416176845,00078
2022-23273172785,00081

Three things follow from those tables. The placed count tracks the size of the graduating class rather than any change in hiring: 1,166 graduated and 541 were placed in 2022-23, 1,293 and 608 in 2023-24, 1,066 and 528 in 2024-25, so the share placed edged up across the three cycles even as the class shrank. Higher study is not a fallback here but a near-equal destination, taking 496 undergraduates in 2024-25 against 528 placed, which fits an agriculture faculty that also runs its own master's and doctoral pipeline. And the postgraduate median of 920,000 sits above the undergraduate median of 825,000, a gap of under a lakh a year set against two more years out of the labour market, and set against a placed share that has been falling at master's level over the same three cycles in which it rose for undergraduates.

Be careful with the headline the university puts on its own factsheet. The Profile 2024-2025 prints 90% employed after graduation as a single figure with no method attached, and the same document reports that in 2022-23, 325 graduates and postgraduates from the university secured placements in banks, state government roles, guest teaching positions in colleges, and private sector jobs in seed, pesticide, and multinational companies. Neither number reconciles cleanly with the ranking return for the same period, and the counts are almost certainly measuring different populations. The filed data is the one to plan around, because it states what it counted.

The employer list the university names is dominated by the public sector and the agri-input industry rather than by campus-hiring technology firms. It records that organisations providing placements include Food Corporation of India, the State Bank of India. Semantics Technologies Private Limited, Kribhco Fertilizers Limited, IFFCO Kisan Sanchar Limited, Nuziveedu Seeds, Crop Facts Technology Private Limited, which is a fair map of where an agriculture graduate from central India lands. Placement support runs through the IGKV Career Guidance Placement and Alumni Cell, listed with a convener and co-convener in the university directory.

Competitive examinations are a parallel outcome the university tracks separately, and for a research-minded student they are the real scoreboard. It records that 75 students qualified JRF, 7 students qualified SRF, 157 qualified NET and 31 qualified ARS at national level.

Seat Matrix

Sanctioned intake at IGKV has been drifting down, not up. The ranking submission gives four years of undergraduate intake and two of postgraduate intake.

Academic yearUG sanctioned intakePG sanctioned intake
2024-251,742462
2023-241,786493
2022-231,793Not reported
2021-221,757Not reported

Those are the seats counted in the ranking return. The university's own glance document counts the network differently and reaches a bigger number, recording that The intake capacity of students in 2023-24 at UG is 2779 including 2179 from constituent and 600 from private affiliated colleges while enrolled students are 2056 including 1787 from constituent and 269 from private affiliated colleges, with intake capacity of PG students is 629 and enrolled is 561 while intake of Ph.D. is 165 and enrolled is 135 and The total students on roll in the university in 2023-24 are 11592. The gap survives the obvious explanation. Even the constituent-only figure of 2179 sits well above the 1,786 in the ranking return for the same year, so the difference is not simply the affiliated colleges being counted in one document and left out of the other. The two totals are drawn on different bases and the university does not say which, so treat neither as the programme-wise seat table.

Enrolment tells you who actually sits in those seats, and the answer is overwhelmingly local. The 2024-25 return records 6,378 undergraduates on roll, of whom 5,833 are from within the state and 545 from outside it, with no international students. Postgraduate numbers are more open: 1,466 on roll with 284 from outside Chhattisgarh. The factsheet reports doctoral intake of 165 against 135 enrolled, an undershoot it also records at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Two composition figures are worth reading if you are applying under a reserved category. Of the undergraduate roll, 5,428 are recorded as socially challenged, meaning SC, ST and OBC combined, and 319 as economically backward; at postgraduate level the equivalent counts are 1,206 and 61. Women are a substantial minority rather than a token one, at 2,573 of the undergraduate roll and 698 of the postgraduate roll.

What the university does not publish anywhere we could find is a category-wise seat matrix, the table that would tell you how many of a programme's seats are held for SC, ST, OBC, EWS or persons with disability at each college. The counselling paperwork that would carry it, the undergraduate admission rule book and the counselling guidelines included, is published as photographed pages with no text layer, so none of it can be searched or set against the totals above. Ask the Academic Section for the category breakdown at document verification rather than assuming a state-level percentage applies unchanged.

Rankings

IGKV appears in one national table. In the Ministry of Education's 2025 India Rankings it holds rank 28 in Agriculture and Allied Sectors with a score of 50.60, placed as an institution of Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

The parameter scores are more revealing than the rank, because they are lopsided in a way that maps onto the placement data above.

NIRF 2025 parameterScore out of 100
Teaching, Learning and Resources75.63
Research and Professional Practice15.08
Graduation Outcomes75.59
Outreach and Inclusivity55.42
Perception27.33

Two of those five carry the rank and two hold it back. Teaching resources and graduation outcomes both sit above seventy-five, which is consistent with a campus that graduates most of its intake on time and pushes a large share into further study. Research and professional practice, at 15.08, is the weakest leg by a wide margin, and perception at 27.33 says the university is less known outside Chhattisgarh than its teaching numbers would justify. A prospective master's or doctoral student should weigh that research score against the specific department they want rather than against the university as a whole, because the aggregate is dragged by publication and citation counts that vary enormously between an agronomy department and a plant biotechnology department.

Inside the agricultural university system IGKV has a second standing, and it is a band rather than a position. It records that IGKV, Raipur has secured 10-23rd Rank amongst Agricultural Universities in the Annual Ranking by ICAR, New Delhi for the year from 2016-17 to 2020, a range wide enough to say only that the university has sat mid-table among its peers, and it is a historical series rather than a current placing.

Departments

The academic structure is two faculties and twenty departments, and the split is heavily weighted to agriculture proper. The university states that There are a total of 20 study departments in the university, 17 of which are in the Faculty of Agriculture and 3 in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering.

The seventeen at the College of Agriculture, Raipur are listed individually in the university directory, each with its own office contact.

FacultyDepartments
AgricultureAgronomy, Agrometeorology, Agri-business and Rural Management, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Forestry, Agricultural Microbiology, Agricultural Statistics and Social Science, Entomology, Floriculture and Landscaping Architecture, Fruit Science, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Plant Pathology, Plant Physiology with Agricultural Bio-chemistry and Medicinal Aromatic Plants, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, Vegetable Science
Agricultural EngineeringAgricultural Processing and Food Engineering, Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, Soil and Water Engineering

That list is worth reading twice if you are choosing a master's specialisation, because the department you join is where your advisory committee, your thesis facilities and your funding will sit. Two entries on it are not what their names suggest to an outsider: Agri-business and Rural Management is where the MBA lives rather than a conventional agriculture department, and Plant Physiology carries agricultural biochemistry and the medicinal and aromatic plants work inside the same unit.

Three specialist centres sit alongside the departments rather than inside them. IGKV lists a centre for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants & Non-Timber Forest Produce established in 2014-15, a centre for Protected Cultivation and Precision Farming established in December 2015 under the National Agriculture Development Scheme (NADS), and a centre for Agro-Industrial Biotechnology established in the year of 2016 with the financial support of Rs. 3.0 crore from RKVY with two pilot plants for bio-control agents and bio-fertilizers.

Facilities & Infrastructure

Start with the Nehru Library, because its budget line has moved further in two years than any other head the university files. The central library was first opened in the year 2013 and maintains around one lakh collection i.e. books, reports, theses, monographs, journal volumes, e-Resources and other reference material, subscribing to > 300 journals in physical form and > 4000 electronically. It is a member of the Consortium for e-Resources in Agriculture and a partner in the Krishikosh repository, and it runs an RFID self-issue and return system with a Cybrary of networked terminals.

The figures sit in the ranking return: capital expenditure on the library ran to 8150000 rupees in 2024-25, against 2100000 in 2023-24 and 496555 in 2022-23. Nothing else on that page multiplied like it. Salaries over the same two years rose by roughly a quarter, and the laboratory equipment head, much the largest of the capital lines, swung sharply up in the middle year and back down again, so a library line rising sixteenfold and staying up reads as a deliberate reallocation rather than a general budget rise.

Teaching space at Raipur was consolidated into one building rather than scattered across departments. The university reports A Cluster Class Room building consisting of 32 halls with advanced and smart class room facility is available in College of Agriculture, Raipur.

Event and assembly space is unusually large for a university of this size, because the campus doubles as the state's agricultural extension venue. There are three Auditorium at IGKV campus, Raipur: the Swami Vivekanand Auditorium at the College of Agriculture is a 500-seater, the Krishi Mandapam nearby has the seating capacity of 3000, and a third auditorium of 1200 capacity sits in the university campus. Krishi Mandapam is not a detail you can skip, because it is where document verification for admission is held.

Laboratory infrastructure is where the university makes its strongest specific claim. It operates a NABL accredited lab for analysis of pesticide residues to export vegetables and other commodities, and its Vice-Chancellor told an NABL workshop that the phytosanitary laboratory has the capacity to test 168 types of pesticide residues, on instrumentation the profile lists as mass spectrometry and real time PCR. Alongside it sits the genetic resource collection the university is best known for: it holds 23,250 rice germplasm accessions, a collection it describes as second only to the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines, along with 4532 accessions of other crops.

The rest of the estate is conventional and adequately documented. The campus carries an agricultural museum, a genebank, greenhouses and polyhouses, a speed breeding facility, research fields, an incubator, seminar halls, a canteen, inter-campus bus transport and medical facilities, per the university's own facilities list.

One accessibility answer has to cover a network here, not a campus. IGKV files more than 80% of buildings for lifts or ramps and repeats that band for specially designed toilets, but it files it once for a university whose teaching colleges sit in districts hundreds of kilometres apart, from Jagdalpur in the south to Ambikapur in the north. A wheelchair user allotted a district college learns nothing from it and should put the question to that college's Dean before accepting the seat.

Hostel

Residence at Raipur is organised as a set of named hostels with their own wardens rather than a single block. The university directory lists boys' hostels named Shivam, Sundaram, Satyam, Maharshi Arvind in three wings, Swami Vivekananda and a New Boys Hostel, and girls' hostels named Godawari, Saraswati, Mandakini, Kadambari, Sabari and a New Girls Hostel, each with a warden or pair of wardens and a caretaker. A single caretaker covers all the girls' hostels, which is worth knowing if you are weighing supervision arrangements.

Capacity is stated once and only in the aggregate. The university says its colleges have boys and girls hostels to accommodate about 1000 students at Raipur. Set that against the undergraduate roll on the same campus and it is clear that residence is not automatic for everyone admitted, so treat a hostel seat as a separate application rather than an entitlement that arrives with the admission letter.

Hostel charges are billed as their own heads, separate from tuition, and they sit inside the same scanned fee documents described earlier. The heads named in the university's fee schedule structure are a hostel amalgamated fund, a hostel caution deposit, a mess caution deposit, an electricity charge and room rent, and they are payable per semester alongside the academic fee. Because the schedule is a scan, confirm the current amounts at the fee counter before you budget.

Living support around the hostels includes a university hospital with a medical officer, a university canteen with a named in-charge, and an NSS cell, all listed in the directory. The university also describes a campus committee against sexual harassment with a named chairperson, which is the contact a resident student should know exists before they need it.

Faculty

The teaching roll is filed name by name rather than as a headcount. The 2026 ranking submission lists each teacher with age, designation, gender, qualification, months of experience, joining date and association type, and it distinguishes regular appointments from adhoc and contractual ones. That last column is the one to read, and where it says adhoc or contractual it says so almost exclusively against assistant professors; the professors and the deans on the list hold regular appointments. A master's runs two years, which can outlast the appointment of the person supervising it, so ask about the standing of your advisory committee chair rather than only their specialisation.

Seniority on the roll is deep. The earliest joining dates on the return run back to the mid-1980s, and the Vice-Chancellor himself appears on it as a serving teacher, listed as Dr GIRISH CHANDEL in the Dean, Principal, Director or Vice Chancellor designation with a doctorate in agriculture. He is named in the same role in the university directory, with Shri Ramen Deka listed as Governor and Chancellor.

Research activity gives a better read on what the faculty actually does than any qualification table, and here it is grant money rather than client money. The 2024-25 return puts sponsored research receipts at 3373922765 rupees against a consultancy line of 45711350, a ratio of roughly seventy to one, and the sponsored project count has drifted down from 206 in 2022-23 to 199 even as the money went up. Intellectual property output moved in the same period: the return records 15 patents published and the same number granted in the 2024 calendar year, after 46 grants in 2023 and none at all in 2022.

The doctoral roll is large enough that thesis supervision is a standing part of the job here rather than an occasional one. The same return carries 588 doctoral students on the books, every one full time and none part time, and shows 96 of them graduating in 2024-25, 69 in 2023-24 and 104 in 2022-23. A campus finishing that many theses a year is one where a master's candidate can expect an advisory committee running live research rather than reviving it for the occasion.

One thing the return does not carry is sanctioned posts against filled posts, so no vacancy rate can be stated for this campus, and none should be inferred from the length of the name list.

Notable Alumni

IGKV publishes no list of distinguished graduates. Its profile counts 7,755+ alumni and it runs an alumni portal on its own domain, but that portal opens on a registration route rather than a published roll of graduates, and neither the profile nor the ranking submission names an individual graduate. We name people only where the record is traceable to a source that says so, so this section stays empty rather than borrowed from a directory site.

One name is closely associated with this campus and should not be mistaken for an alumnus. Dr R.H. Richharia led the predecessor institute here, and the university records that under his leadership the centre became the Madhya Pradesh Rice Research Institute (MPRRI) and that its research laboratory was later established in the honourable memory of Dr. R.H. Richharia. The rice collection described above traces back to that institute, and Richharia was its director rather than a graduate of it.

News & Articles

IGKV runs no press page a prospective student can rely on. The surface that actually moves is the counselling notice board, and it is dated to the day. Through the 2026-27 cycle it posted the PAT-2026 based UG Counseling First Round Seat allotment has been done for admission in B.Sc.(Ag.)(Hons.) in session 2026 notice, then ten spot rounds, then conversion counselling, then a document verification call for PAT and (10+2) based counselling, the whole sequence inside about three weeks. Several of those notices gave candidates less than a day of warning, and one was posted on the morning of the afternoon it applied to, so refresh that board daily once you are in an IGKV queue rather than waiting to be emailed.

Institutional news reaches the public through the profile document rather than a newsroom. That document records the university honored with the prestigious "National e-Governance Award-2023" Gold Award on August 25, 2023 by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Government of India for its work on citizen-centric services, which is a recognition of the admission and examination systems a candidate deals with rather than of anything grown in a field.

College Compare

Inside Chhattisgarh there is nothing to compare IGKV against on this measure. It is the only institution in the state to appear anywhere in the ministry's 2025 agriculture table, which is what its own description as the single agricultural university of state amounts to once you go looking for a second opinion. A candidate weighing agriculture here against agriculture elsewhere is weighing a state choice, not a campus choice.

The useful comparisons sit one place either side of it and both are out of state: Anand Agricultural University in Gujarat at rank 27 with 51.67, and Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pardesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya in Kangra at rank 29 with 50.18. Neither gap reaches two points, so the ordering is closer to a tie than a placing, and the parameter split is the part worth reading: Anand scores 19.08 on research and professional practice against IGKV's 15.08, while IGKV is the clearly stronger of the two on graduation outcomes and on outreach and inclusivity. Choose on which of those two you are buying.

Contact & Location

The campus sits at Krishak Nagar on the eastern side of Raipur, and the university's own directory gives the postal address as Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Krishak Nagar, Raipur-492012 (C.G.). The website is built and hosted for the university by the National Informatics Centre Chhattisgarh State Centre, Raipur, which is why several of its documents are served from state government infrastructure.

For admission questions the Academic Section is the right first call rather than the Vice-Chancellor's office, and for anything about the B.Sc. programme itself the Dean's office at the College of Agriculture handles it. Document verification and fee payment during counselling happen at Krishi Mandapam, college of Agriculture, Raipur, not at the university's administrative building, so plan the trip to the college rather than to the headquarters.
