Anand Agricultural University, Anand
B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture at AAU's oldest college closed the third round of Gujarat's 2026-27 common admission at a general-category merit of 83.4000, the highest figure in the state table for that degree. It is not an entrance rank. AAU builds merit for its agriculture degrees from 40 percent of a GUJCET score and 60 percent of Class 12 theory marks in physics, chemistry and biology, so a board result decides an Anand seat as much as an entrance paper does.
Overview
AAU is a state agricultural university and it is younger than the college at its centre. The university was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004, and its own alumni record puts the working start a fortnight later: on 1st May, 2004, Anand Agricultural University was established. What it inherited was the Anand campus of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University, described on AAU's own profile as the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi.
The teaching lineage runs much deeper than the Act. AAU traces the road map of the then Institute of Agriculture, Anand (1936-1939) to those two men, and the agriculture college itself began as a gift: Sheth Shri Amrutlal Hargovinddas (Ahmedabad) donated Rs. 5.0 lakh in 1946 in the memory of his late son Shri Bansilal, which is why the campus institution is called Bansilal Amrutlal College of Agriculture. The foundation stone was laid by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 6th April, 1947, Kanaiyalal Munshi inaugurated the building, and the first batch was admitted during 1947-48. The college then changed parents four times before AAU existed, affiliating with Bombay University (1948-50), then with Gujarat University (1951-60) and Sardar Patel University (1957-71) before Gujarat Agricultural University absorbed it in 1972.

The present footprint is spread rather than concentrated. AAU reports seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur, so three of its degree colleges sit outside Anand town altogether.
One thing about Anand needs saying plainly, because the university's own site still blurs it. Anand is the milk city, and dairy teaching here is older than the agriculture college: the campus library began in 1942 as an accessory to the then SMC School of Dairy Science. SMC College of Dairy Science did sit inside AAU, which it became a part of in June, 2004, but its own timeline records that in April, 2021 it became a part of Kamdhenu University, Gandhinagar. B.Tech. (Dairy Technology) at Anand is therefore a Kamdhenu University admission today, not an AAU one, though AAU still hosts the college's old placement page with nothing on it to say the college has moved. What AAU kept on the processing side is the College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy.
Courses & Fees
Seven degree colleges and one management institute teach here, and the programme decides the town.

| College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Godhra | UG, PG, PhD | B.Tech. (Agricultural Engineering), M.Tech. (Agril. Engg.) in 5 streams | Off campus |
Below the degrees sit five polytechnics that rarely appear on listing sites, teaching diplomas in agriculture at Anand and Vaso, horticulture at Vadodara, agricultural engineering at Dahod and Food Technology and Nutrition at Anand.
Postgraduate fees are set in common for all four Gujarat agricultural universities and they are gendered in a way worth reading before comparing quotes. The 2026-27 information booklet notes that Girl students having citizenship of India are exempted from tuition and hostel fees in all faculties, which pulls a semester bill apart.
| Postgraduate fee head, AY 2026-27 | Boys | Girls |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition fee, per semester | Rs 5,000 | Exempt |
| Fees for hostel room, per semester | Rs 2,000 | Exempt |
| Registration fee, per semester | Rs 1,000 | Rs 1,000 |
| Laboratory, per semester | Rs 2,000 | Rs 2,000 |
| Fees for examination, per semester | Rs 1,000 | Rs 1,000 |
| Semester total | Rs 12,300 | Rs 5,300 |
| Deposits at first registration | Rs 4,700 | Rs 4,700 |
| Electricity charges | Rs 2,000 | Rs 2,000 |
The five heads above are not the whole semester bill: a 500 rupee library fee and 200 rupees each for sports, cultural activities and an evaluation report make up the rest, with a transcript fee charged only in the final semester. The deposit block is mostly refundable: caution money of Rs 1500, a hostel deposit of the same amount for resident students and a mess deposit of 1500 adjusted against the last month's food bill, plus an identity card and a thalassemia test fee.
Two AAU programmes are priced outside that common sheet. The one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Data Science, taught at the College of Agricultural Information Technology, which AAU established in the year 2009, admits 10 seats on the same fee shape as a master's degree. The M.Sc. in Agriculture Analytics, which AAU runs jointly with DAU Gandhinagar and the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing of ISRO, is a different order of money: Rs. 1,50,000 is payable at counselling, tuition alone is Rs. 1,00,000 per Semester, and students spend semester one at DAU, semester two at IIRS in Dehradun and semester three with AAU faculty on crop, soil, weather and agriculture market analytics.
The undergraduate fee is the one figure AAU does not publish as readable text. It sits inside the scanned UG Admission Information Booklet hosted on ug.gsauca.in and on the university site, which carries no text layer, so ask the admitting college office for the current year's schedule rather than trusting a third-party quote.
Admissions
Neither JEE Main nor NEET has any role here, including for the three B.Tech. degrees. Every undergraduate seat is filled through one process shared by the state's agricultural universities: AAU records that a Common online admission procedure is followed for all four Agricultural universities of Gujarat State, and the qualifying entrance is the State level common entrance examination i.e., GUJCET conducted by the state Government, taken after a Class 12 science pass.
Applications open only online, at ug.gsauca.in, and a candidate pays a separate application fee for each programme category applied to. The nodal university publishes that fee and the June application window only in its Gujarati advertisement, so read the current year's notice on ug.gsauca.in rather than carrying forward last year's amount.
Choice filling is not optional after verification: the advertisement warns that a candidate who has not done choice filling will not have their name included in the merit list at all.
The three programme categories decide which subject combination a candidate needs.
| Programme category | AAU degrees inside it | Class 12 group |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture | PCB or PCMB, B group or AB group |
| 2 | B.Tech. (Food Technology), B.Tech. (Agricultural Information Technology), B.Tech. (Agril. Engineering) | PCM, PCB or PCMB |
| 3 | Community science degrees, not taught at AAU | PCM, PCB or PCMB |
Merit itself is the part most applicants misjudge. AAU states the rule for its agriculture colleges as a Weightage comprising of 40 % of GUJCET and 60 % of HSC theory marks in PCB, which is why the published cut-offs read like percentages rather than ranks. Admission then runs online, and the nodal university's own notice sets out what happens when seats survive it: after three online rounds a fourth, offline counselling round is held to fill the vacant seats strictly by merit and by college choice.
Reserved categories follow the Gujarat roster rather than an all-India one. AAU's published reservation table sets 07 percent for Scheduled Caste candidates, 15 percent for Scheduled Tribes and 27 percent for socially and educationally backward communities, with 05 percent for differently abled candidates adjustable inside the respective category; the postgraduate booklet adds a 10 percent supernumerary block for the economically weaker section. A non-creamy layer certificate from a Gujarat authority is required for the SEBC claim.
The national door is narrower and separate. ICAR reserves @20% of the intake at each participating university for candidates counselled through CUET (ICAR-UG), and its brochure closes the back door on that quota: there is no direct nomination through ICAR in any Bachelor degree programme without appearing in the CUET (ICAR-UG) conducted by the NTA and joining ICAR's own counselling.
Postgraduate admission is a different machine again. Applications go to pg.gsauca.in with a non-refundable fee of 1,000, and every eligible candidate sits an entrance test of 100 Multiple Choice Questions lasting one hour. There is no qualifying score: the advertisement states plainly that no minimum cut-off marks are prescribed, and the merit list is built by considering 50% of OGPA of the last degree and 50% of marks obtained in entrance test. The MBA is the exception, ranked on entrance marks alone. Of the total postgraduate intake, 70% is reserved for the state quota and 30% for ICAR nominees admitted through AIEEA (PG) or AICE-JRF/SRF.
Cutoff
Two entirely separate cut-off lists govern AAU, and a candidate is measured against only one of them.
The Gujarat list is published as merit marks out of 100, college by college. These are the round three figures, the last round before offline counselling opens.
| AAU college and degree, round 3 | General | SEBC | SC | ST | EWS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand, B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture | 83.4000 | 83.2166 | 77.9500 | 67.7833 | 82.3833 |
| College of Agriculture, AAU, Vaso, B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture | 75.4833 | 74.0833 | 70.5666 | 62.0333 | 70.5000 |
| College of Agriculture, AAU, Jabugam, B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture | 70.3166 | 69.3000 | 63.5000 | 59.4666 | 66.6000 |
| College of Horticulture, AAU, Anand, B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture | 68.5833 | 66.6833 | 62.4500 | 57.4000 | 65.5666 |
| College of FPT and Bio Energy, AAU, Anand, B.Tech. (Food technology) | 74.7333 | 71.5666 | 65.9000 | 54.9000 | 73.9500 |
| College of Agricultural Information Technology, AAU, Anand, B.Tech. (Agri. IT) | 65.1333 | 60.9833 | 47.5833 | 34.3000 | 62.7333 |
| College of Agricultural Engg. and Technology, AAU, Godhra, B.Tech. (Agri. Engineering) | 56.3833 | 54.8500 | 43.3000 | 33.7833 | 55.0000 |
Read the spread rather than the top line. The same B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree closed at 83.4000 at Anand and at 70.3166 at Jabugam, a wide enough gap that college choice order matters more than most applicants assume, and B.Tech. (Food technology) at 74.7333 is the most competitive engineering-side seat in the whole state list, ahead of the comparable degree at Sardarkrushinagar. Agricultural engineering at Godhra is the softest door AAU has.
The ICAR list is ranked, all-India, and published separately for each home state a candidate applies from. Anand draws heavily from outside Gujarat on this route.
| CUET (ICAR-UG) 2025, first round at AAU | Category | Allotted rank range |
|---|---|---|
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, Rajasthan domicile | UR | 134 to 373 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, Bihar domicile | UR | 771 to 942 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture, Madhya Pradesh domicile | UR | 401 to 924 |
| B.Tech. Food Technology, Rajasthan domicile | UR | 4158 to 4938 |
| B.Tech. Agricultural Engineering, Rajasthan domicile | UR | 5207 to 5870 |
Every AAU line in that 2025 list carrying a Gujarat domicile is for B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture, allotted at rank 6485. Gujarat students reach Anand through GUJCET; the ICAR quota here is largely a corridor for candidates from Rajasthan, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
At postgraduate level the AIEEA (PG) list ranks candidates inside each major subject, not across all of them, so the AAU lines read as how deep a subject's own queue the university had to go. Agri-Business Management at the International Agribusiness Management Institute stopped at subject rank 11 for an Andhra Pradesh unreserved candidate and 15 for a Rajasthan one in the 2025 first round; Food Processing Technology went to the 1 ranked unreserved candidate from Karnataka, and Soil Science to Rajasthan's 26. Nematology, the subject Anand runs alone in Gujarat, had to reach rank 213 to fill from Telangana.
Placements
Individual AAU colleges publish placement brochures, but the one record that counts the whole university and can be read year against year is its ranking-framework filing, and that filing separates two outcomes listing sites usually merge.
| Undergraduate cohort | Graduated in minimum time | Placed | Median salary | Went to higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021-22 | 418 | 182 | Rs 4,90,000 | 218 |
| 2022-23 | 390 | 236 | Rs 4,00,000 | 144 |
| 2023-24 | 442 | 252 | Rs 4,50,000 | 157 |
In 2021-22 more of AAU's graduating undergraduates went on to study further than took a job. That flipped by 2023-24, when 252 were placed against 157 in higher studies, though the median of 450000 rupees was still below the 2021-22 figure.
The postgraduate cohort earns close to double and it is trending the other way.
| Postgraduate cohort | Graduated in minimum time | Placed | Median salary | Went to higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021-22 | 170 | 82 | Rs 7,80,000 | 84 |
| 2022-23 | 129 | 77 | Rs 7,00,000 | 40 |
| 2023-24 | 125 | 89 | Rs 8,40,000 | 32 |
A master's degree from Anand moved from a median of 700000 rupees to 840000 in one year while the cohort shrank, which is the practical argument for staying past the bachelor's here.
Who does the hiring is on the record even though no package figure is. The International Agribusiness Management Institute names its regular recruiters as United Phosporus, L & T Finance, NDDB Anand, Mother Dairy Gandhinagar, Netafim Irrigation India, Bayer, DuPont, Amul, IDMC Anand, Gujarat State Fertilizer & Chemicals, Reliance Foundation and Kotak Mahindra Bank among others, and it also names the seven students it has placed outside India, in Bangkok, Nigeria and other African countries, none from a batch that finished less than a decade ago. The College of Agriculture at Vaso goes further and publishes a placement brochure for each passing batch alongside named lists of the students who took private jobs, government jobs, an entrepreneurial route or a research fellowship. None of those pages carries a highest package, so a headline package quoted for AAU is unsourced.
Seat Matrix
Sanctioned undergraduate intake across the university stood at 586 for the four-year degrees in 2023-24, up from 476 three years earlier, with 201 at master's level. Enrolment sat at 2028 undergraduates, of whom 255 came from outside Gujarat.
The per-college undergraduate split sits inside the scanned admission booklet, and the individual college pages are where a readable figure survives: AAU's own page for the College of Food Processing Technology and Bio Energy puts B.Tech. (Food Technology) at 65 seats, M.Tech. at 13 and the doctoral programme at 7.
The ICAR quota is published in full, however, and it is the clearest seat count a candidate outside Gujarat can plan against.
| CUET (ICAR-UG) 2025 quota at AAU | Base seats | UR | SC | ST | OBC | PwBD | UPS | EWS | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture | 49 | 25 | 7 | 4 | 13 | 2 | 1 | 5 | 54 |
| B.Sc. (Hons.) Horticulture | 13 | 6 | 2 | 1 | 4 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 14 |
| B.Tech. Agricultural Engineering | 12 | 6 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 13 |
| B.Tech. Food Technology | 12 | 6 | 2 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 13 |
Postgraduate seats are published discipline by discipline for 2026-27, and the pattern shows where AAU concentrates.
| AAU postgraduate discipline, 2026-27 | Master | Doctorate |
|---|---|---|
| Genetics and Plant Breeding | 18 | 07 |
| Agronomy | 14 | 05 |
| Entomology | 14 | 06 |
| Plant Pathology | 10 | 03 |
| Agricultural Extension Education | 08 | 04 |
| Soil Science | 07 | 03 |
| Nematology | 02 | -- |
| Agriculture faculty total | 98 | 38 |
| Horticulture faculty total | 12 | 05 |
| Agricultural Engineering and Technology total | 13 | 04 |
| Food Technology total | 16 | 08 |
| Agricultural Information Technology total | 06 | -- |
| Agri-Business Management total | 33 | 04 |
Two of those lines exist nowhere else in Gujarat. Nematology is offered at Anand alone among the state's agricultural universities, and so is the M.Tech. in Agricultural Information Technology. A student who wants either has one address in the state.
Vacancy after the third undergraduate round is a fair signal of how tightly each college fills. B. A. College of Agriculture came out of it with 01 general seat and 01 SEBC seat still open, while the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Godhra was still carrying 12 general and 09 vacancies in the SEBC column.
Rankings
AAU is the highest-placed Gujarat institution in agriculture nationally. It sits at rank 27 in the 2025 National Institutional Ranking Framework table for Agriculture and Allied Sectors, on an overall score of 51.67; Navsari Agricultural University, the only other Gujarat entry in that table, follows at rank 34.
| NIRF 2025 parameter | AAU score out of 100 |
|---|---|
| Teaching, learning and resources | 76.48 |
| Graduation outcomes | 71.92 |
| Outreach and inclusivity | 46.91 |
| Perception | 39.43 |
| Research and professional practice | 19.08 |
Read down that column before reading the rank. A student paying for coursework and a degree at Anand is buying teaching resources scored at 76.48 and a graduation-outcome record scored at 71.92. A student hoping to attach to a laboratory is buying 19.08, a quarter of the teaching score and less than half the next lowest number on its own sheet, and it is what holds Anand at 27 rather than higher.
Departments
Bansilal Amrutlal College of Agriculture alone runs 18 departments working on crop-breeding, crop-production, crop-protection and Social Sciences, and the postgraduate list is the practical map of them: agronomy, soil science, genetics and plant breeding, biochemistry, entomology, plant pathology, agricultural extension education, agricultural statistics, agricultural economics, nematology, molecular biology and biotechnology, microbiology, seed science and technology, plant physiology and agricultural meteorology, plus fruit science, vegetable science and floriculture and landscaping on the horticulture side.
Above the departments sit the university's boards of studies, which AAU lists as the faculties of Agriculture, Agricultural Information Technology, Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Food Processing Technology and Bio-Energy, International Agribusiness Management and Horticulture. Departments of the older kind survive here too: the Bidi Tobacco Research Station, which serves the tobacco belt around Anand and Kheda, came in to the existence in 1947 and was transferred to the Institute of Agriculture, Anand in 1951.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The campus library is the piece with a national designation. Dr M.D. Patel Regional e-Library grew out of the dairy school collection, was named after Dr Maganbhai Dahyabhai Patel in 1983, and ICAR later took it into its 18-Regional Library Consortium project and selected Dr M.D. Patel Library as the Regional Library in the western zone, fitting it as a cyberary with 20 mbps Internet and 36 work-stations.
Teaching infrastructure at BACA is unusually field-heavy. The college maintains an educational museum of seed, compost, implements and pest control material, and a well-planned crop-cafeteria is also available where more than 150 types of crops are being planted according to the seasons. Weather work is institutional rather than incidental: under ISRO-linked projects, 43 automated weather forecast centers are established by ISRO at Agricultural Research Centers in Gujarat, and the college issues a farm advisory for middle Gujarat every Tuesday and Friday.
Laboratories drew more capital than books did in 2023-24. New equipment took 20039899 rupees that year against 9101000 rupees for the library. On accessibility it reports lifts or ramps and specially designed toilets in more than 80 percent of buildings.
Hostel
Residence is arranged across colleges rather than per college, which surprises students who expect their own building. Boys of one Anand college live in the Mahatma Gandhi boys hostel administered by College of Horticulture, while the girls live in M. V. Patel Girls Hostel administered by the College of AIT, with women from both colleges sharing the same premises.
| Hostel detail | Mahatma Gandhi Boys Hostel | M. V. Patel Girls Hostel |
|---|---|---|
| Number of rooms | 48 | 60 |
| Rooms available | 44 | 52 |
| Students per room | 3 | 3 |
| Total intake capacity | 132 | 156 |
| Students at present | 116 | 115 |
| Seating capacity of mess | 120 | 150 |
| Water purification RO systems | 02 | 03 |
Both buildings run three to a room and neither was full when AAU reported: 116 boys against a stated capacity of 132, and 115 girls against 156 with two colleges feeding the same block. Conduct is governed by a common state-wide code, the Rules for Hostel and its Management approved under the Gujarat Agricultural Universities Act, 2004, under which the Principal is ex-officio Chief Rector and the mess deposit amount is fixed by the rector each year. For postgraduate students the room fee of Rs 2,000 a semester applies to boys only.
Faculty
Staffing here is generous against the roll. The 2025 ranking submission puts the teaching strength at 374, and the roll those staff carry at 2028 undergraduates plus 341 postgraduates.
The doctoral pipeline those staff supervise is small and steady: 78 full-time scholars were pursuing a PhD to 2023-24, and the university awarded 44 doctorates that year, 46 the year before and 39 the year before that.
Two financial years turned a quiet research office into a busy one. AAU counted 21 sponsored projects in 2021-22 and 211 of them in 2023-24, with the money arriving from 24 separate agencies. Its consultancy desk billed 18 client organisations across 48 jobs in that same year, for 144959427 rupees. That is the part of AAU's record its NIRF research score has not yet caught up with.
Notable Alumni
The BACA Alumni Association page, the closest thing AAU keeps to an alumni record, publishes its executive committee and its membership rules and stops there. No roll of distinguished former students appears on it or anywhere else on aau.in, so this section names nobody rather than lift names from sites that cannot show where they got them.
What the university does publish is scale. BACA records that about 6500 students got their degree of B.Sc.(Agri.), 2585 M.Sc.(Agri.) and 650 Ph.D. from this college, and its association, registered in 2003, carries 2900 registered life members. Life membership costs Rs.300, made up of a membership fee of Rs.250 and an admission fee of Rs. 50.

Anand sits on the Ahmedabad to Vadodara line, which is what makes the campus easy to reach without a car. It is locally known as KHETIWADI, six kilometer from ANAND Railway Station of the Western Railway-between Ahmedabad and Vadodara, and university and city bus services run from the station. The nearest airports are Vadodara, about 40 kilometers away, and Ahmedabad, about 80 kilometers away.
