Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune

Pune, Maharashtra Est. 1964 Official site Updated
NIRF University
#59

Only seven of the 26 colleges that carry the Bharati Vidyapeeth name in the AISHE register sit inside the deemed university at Pune. The other 19 answer to Shivaji University, the University of Mumbai, Savitribai Phule Pune University and two more, so a fee, a closing rank or a placement figure quoted for "Bharati Vidyapeeth" may belong to a college this university neither teaches nor prices. The deemed university, 59th among Indian universities in NIRF 2025, fills almost everything it teaches through its own paper, the Bharati Vidyapeeth Common Entrance Test, and its medical and dental seats through NEET. Every number below names the campus and the institute it belongs to.

Overview

Two different bodies share this name, and only one of them is a university. Bharati Vidyapeeth is an educational trust founded in 1964 in Pune by Dr Patangrao Kadam, and it now runs more than 78 schools and over 60 higher education institutes with campuses in Pune, New Delhi, Navi Mumbai, Solapur, Kolhapur, Sangli, Karad, Satara and Panchgani. The deemed university is the narrower body carved out of that trust: on 26 April 1996 the Government of India, acting on a University Grants Commission recommendation, granted deemed-to-be-university status to a cluster of 12 institutions under Bharati Vidyapeeth, and notifications in 2004 and 2005 pulled further colleges inside that boundary. The umbrella now covers 29 institutions, which the university itself flags as unusual, since most deemed universities in India stay inside one discipline.

That boundary is the whole point for an applicant. A programme run inside the deemed university is taught, examined and priced by the university itself, and its seats are filled through the university's own entrance test. A programme at one of the trust's other colleges is examined by whichever state university that college is affiliated to, and its fee, entrance route and ranking belong to that college rather than to this one.

The university holds NAAC's A++ grade, and the accreditation it declared in its ranking filing runs from 8 November 2024 to 7 November 2031 at a CGPA of 3.60.

Its own campus list runs to eight: Pune at Dhankawadi and Erandwane, then Navi Mumbai, Sangli, Karad, Kolhapur, Solapur and New Delhi. At that spread the campus matters more than the brand, and the same degree can cost more than five times as much at one campus as at another.

Courses & Fees

The university teaches across medicine, dentistry, ayurved, homoeopathy, nursing, pharmacy, engineering, law, management, biotechnology, environment science, physical education, architecture, hotel management, optometry, audiology, photography and the social sciences. How many programmes that adds up to depends on which line of its about page you read, because the counter at the top of it says 160 and the paragraph below says 250, each with a plus attached and neither broken down. The dependable prices are therefore the ones tied to a named institute, and those sit in the entrance test details published for each test.

ProgrammeInstituteGeneral merit tuition, 2026-27
B.Tech in Computer Engineering, CSE, IT or Computer Science and Business SystemsCollege of Engineering, PuneRs 2,90,000 a year

B.Sc NursingCollege of Nursing, PuneRs 1,27,000 a year
B.Sc NursingCollege of Nursing, SangliRs 1,04,740 a year

The spread inside a single row is what a shortlist has to reckon with. The same BBA is Rs 2,50,000 a year at IMED in Pune and Rs 47,500 at Karad, Kolhapur, Sangli or Solapur, and the five-year B.B.A. LL.B costs about a third more at the New Delhi department of law than at New Law College in Pune. The degree certificate carries the same university name in every case.

Read the quota column before you read the amount. The engineering brochure prices the same Pune computer-engineering seat at Rs 2,90,000 a year on general merit and Rs 5,80,000 under the institutional quota, and it warns that tuition is revised upwards by 5 per cent every year, so a four-year bill is not four times the first-year figure. Small charges ride on top at admission: a caution deposit of Rs 2,000, a smart card fee of Rs 450, a dress code fee of Rs 3,000, an eligibility fee of Rs 215 and a stationery fee of Rs 800.

Medicine and dentistry are the two faculties with no fee figure in any entrance brochure, because no university test fills them. Their amounts are notified separately as numbered circulars, and the fee-structure page carries Circular No. 513 for the Faculty of Medicine and Circular No. 526 for the Faculty of Dentistry for 2026-27. Both are posted as scanned notices with no selectable text in them, so no figure from either can be searched for or copied. An MBBS, BDS or clinical postgraduate applicant should open the two circulars rather than trust an amount transcribed onto an admissions aggregator.

Money comes back off the fee through two university schemes and through outside reimbursement. The scholarship page lists the Dr. Patangrao Kadam Scholarship Scheme, a merit-cum-means award for undergraduate and postgraduate students, and the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Junior Research Fellowship for doctoral scholars. How far that reach extends is in the university's own filing: in the three-year undergraduate programmes in 2023-24, 623 students had their full tuition reimbursed by state or central government, 400 by institution funds and 246 by private bodies, while 1,275 students in the same programmes received no full reimbursement at all.

Admissions

Almost every seat here turns on a university paper rather than a national one. The engineering brochure states the rule plainly: a candidate seeking any undergraduate or postgraduate programme at the university's institutes has to appear for the entrance test the university conducts. That family of tests is branded BV-CET, and the paper you sit is named for the degree.

DegreeEntrance testTest fee
B.TechBV-BTECHRs 2,000
MBA, MCA and MBA in Healthcare and Hospital ManagementBMATRs 2,000
BBA, BCA and B.ComBUMATRs 1,500
B.A. LL.B and B.B.A. LL.B, five yearsBV-LAWUGRs 1,500
LL.B, three yearsBV-LLBRs 1,500
B.Sc NursingBV-BScNURSINGRs 1,500
B.Pharm and Pharm.DBV-PHARMUGRs 1,700

The rest of the entrance test list follows the same naming. BV-AB covers both B.Sc Biotechnology and the bachelor's in audiology and speech language pathology, BV-BOPTOM and BV-MOPTOM cover the two optometry degrees, BV-BPTH covers physiotherapy and BV-MBT covers the biotechnology and bioinformatics master's degrees. Doctoral entry runs on a separate Ph.D. entrance test, with a distinct route for candidates the university treats as exempt from sitting it.

Medicine, dentistry and the clinical postgraduate degrees never touch BV-CET. Those seats turn on NEET, and the university's dental colleges at Pune and Navi Mumbai appear by name in the Medical Counselling Committee's allotment lists for deemed and central universities, which is where an MBBS, BDS or MDS candidate spends the score instead of in Maharashtra's state counselling.

Clearing the test is not the same as holding a seat. The engineering brochure is explicit that appearing in the entrance test and reaching the merit list confers no automatic right to admission; the seat is offered at counselling, by rank and by what is still vacant, and it is confirmed only when the full year's fee is paid on the day of the counselling round and the university's eligibility certificate follows.

Cutoff

No BV-CET paper has a published cutoff score, and the brochures explain why rather than hiding it. The engineering brochure calls the entrance test a ranking examination and says the seat is offered at counselling by rank and by availability, so what closes a branch is simply the rank at which its seats run out that round. That is visible afterwards in the allotment and nowhere before it.

Where a hard number does exist is on the NEET side, because the counselling authority publishes its allotments. In the Medical Counselling Committee's MDS 2025 Round 1 list, management and paid-quota seats at Bharati Vidyapeeth DU Dental College and Hospital, Pune went to candidates ranked from 1,281 down to 11,719, while its non-resident seats were allotted between ranks 11,415 and 14,498. At the group's Navi Mumbai dental college the paid-quota spread in the same round ran from 833 to 12,938.

Read that spread by speciality rather than as one band. In the same Pune list the last management or paid-quota seat in prosthodontics went at rank 1,712, while periodontology ran down to 11,047, so the two subjects were never competing for the same candidate. These are also round-one allotments and not final closing ranks, and later rounds together with the stray vacancy round reach further down the list.

Placements

The dependable placement numbers here are the ones filed with the Ministry of Education, not the ones on the university's own placement page, which describes what the cell does without publishing a single figure. Its NIRF 2025 data submission reports the placed count and the median salary for every programme group, for the batch that graduated in 2023-24.

Programme group, 2023-24 batchGraduated in minimum timePlacedMedian salary a year
Three-year undergraduate2,8861,730Rs 5,50,000
Four-year undergraduate1,030940Rs 5,30,000
Five-year undergraduate1,4101,046Rs 6,60,000
Two-year postgraduate1,4941,396Rs 7,50,000
Three-year postgraduate291235Rs 5,80,000
Six-year postgraduate3023Rs 5,90,000

The shape of that table is worth more than any single row. The postgraduate end is where placement holds up, with 1,396 of the 1,494 two-year postgraduates who finished on time placed at a median of Rs 7,50,000. The three-year undergraduate stream is the thin one, with 1,730 of 2,886 placed and a further 1,140 leaving for higher studies rather than a job, which is the ordinary pattern for a B.Sc or B.Com batch and not a failure of the placement cell. In the same submission the median rose in all six groups across the three years reported.

What these figures cannot do is speak for one college. They pool an engineering batch in Pune with a management batch in Solapur and a commerce batch in Navi Mumbai, and no course-wise recruiter list or salary spread is published that would let a candidate pull them apart. For a specific programme, ask that institute for its own batch report before you weigh the university-wide median.

Seat Matrix

There is no consolidated, category-wise seat matrix for the university, but it does declare its sanctioned intake to the ranking framework, and that is the closest thing to a total.

Programme groupSanctioned intake, 2023-24
Three-year undergraduate2,320
Four-year undergraduate1,295
Five-year undergraduate1,360
Two-year postgraduate1,439
Three-year postgraduate412
Six-year postgraduate30

Those are approved seats across every constituent institute and every campus at once, so they answer how big the university is, not how many seats the Pune engineering college has. The seats you can actually apply against are counted in two separate places. Engineering, management, law and the other BV-CET faculties fill from the university's own counselling, where the vacancy position is announced institute by institute through the admission season. Medical and dental seats are counted instead in the Medical Counselling Committee's seat matrix for deemed universities and split there into the all-India, management and non-resident pools, which is the version that governs an MBBS, BDS or MDS application.

Rankings

The university's national standing rests on one entry, and one of its colleges is ranked separately and higher in its own discipline.

NIRF 2025 categoryRanked entityRankScore
UniversityBharati Vidyapeeth, Pune5951.37
PharmacyPoona College of Pharmacy, Pune3456.28

Set the five parameters side by side and one of them is doing all the damage. Among the 100 universities ranked individually in the 2025 university table, Bharati Vidyapeeth stands 33rd on outreach and inclusivity at 66.73, 42nd on teaching, learning and resources at 69.93, 52nd on graduation outcomes at 71.84 and 59th on perception at 32.98. On research and professional practice it scores 20.18 and stands 85th, with only 15 ranked universities below it. Those five placements describe a university that enrols and finishes large numbers of students and does comparatively little research.

The pharmacy table carries a name trap. Poona College of Pharmacy in Pune, ranked 34th, is a constituent of this deemed university. Bharati Vidyapeeth's College of Pharmacy at Kolhapur, ranked 78th in the same pharmacy table, is not: AISHE records it as an affiliated college of Shivaji University, Kolhapur. The same split runs far wider than pharmacy. Of the 26 colleges filed under the Bharati Vidyapeeth name in AISHE's college register, seven sit under this deemed university and the other 19 are affiliated to Shivaji University, the University of Mumbai, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Delhi or Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University at Lonere.

Departments

Instead of academic departments, the university is organised as named institutes, each with its own principal, campus and admission cell, and each publishing its own phone number and email. The Dhankawadi campus in Pune holds the largest cluster of them.

  • Medical College and Hospital, Pune, and Medical College and Hospital, Sangli
  • Dental College and Hospital at Pune, Sangli and Navi Mumbai
  • College of Ayurved, Pune, and Homoeopathic Medical College, Pune
  • College of Nursing at Pune, Sangli and Navi Mumbai
  • Poona College of Pharmacy, Pune, and the Research and Development Centre in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Applied Chemistry, Erandwane
  • College of Engineering, Pune, and the Department of Engineering and Technology, Navi Mumbai
  • New Law College, Pune, and the Department of Law, New Delhi
  • Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development, Pune; Institute of Management and Research, New Delhi; Department of Management Studies, Navi Mumbai; Institute of Management, Kolhapur; Yashwantrao Mohite Institute of Management, Karad; Institute of Management and Rural Development Administration, Sangli; Abhijit Kadam Institute of Management and Social Sciences, Solapur
  • Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Information Technology and Biotechnology, Pune, and the Institute of Environment Education and Research, Pune
  • College of Architecture, College of Physical Education, Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, School of Optometry, School of Physiotherapy, School of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology and the School of Visual Arts, all at Pune
  • Yashwantrao Mohite College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Erandwane, with the Social Sciences Centre and the Yashwantrao Chavan Institute of Social Science Studies and Research

Interactive Research School for Health Affairs, the university's health-sciences research arm, sits alongside these teaching institutes at Dhankawadi. Doctoral work is organised through the faculties rather than through a single graduate school, and the university notifies its Ph.D. seat distribution faculty by faculty and subject by subject for each academic year.

Facilities & Infrastructure

Residence and catering are the two facilities the university puts a number on. Its campus facilities page counts 2,250 rooms in self-catering residences across the campuses and cafeterias with a seating capacity of 300, alongside on-campus healthcare, a bus fleet for students and staff living off campus, banks and ATMs, sports grounds and a guest house.

The clinical infrastructure is what separates this university from a general private one, and it is not spread evenly. Teaching hospitals attached to the medical colleges at Pune and Sangli and to the dental colleges at Pune, Sangli and Navi Mumbai are where the clinical faculties train, so a candidate visiting for a medical or dental seat is inspecting a hospital as much as a college. Erandwane, closer to central Pune, carries the pharmacy, law, arts and social-science institutes and reads as a city campus rather than a health-sciences one.

Hostel

Hostel is charged separately from tuition, and the published rates differ so sharply by campus and by building that they need reading in full rather than averaging.

Campus and hostelAnnual hostel feeAnnual mess feeTotal for the year
Pune Dhankawadi, gents hostelRs 60,000Rs 37,500Rs 1,03,500
Pune Dhankawadi, new ladies hostel, air-conditioned singleRs 3,55,000Rs 50,000Rs 4,16,000
Pune Dhankawadi, new ladies hostel, non air-conditioned doubleRs 1,65,000Rs 50,000Rs 2,26,000
Pune Erandwane, ladies or gents hostelRs 60,000Rs 37,500Rs 1,03,000
Sangli, ladies or gents hostelRs 50,000Rs 35,000Rs 91,000
Navi Mumbai, gents hostelRs 40,000Not publishedRs 45,500

Do not add the incidentals on top of that total, because the same schedule has already folded them in: an admission fee of Rs 500, a prospectus fee of Rs 500 where one is charged, and a refundable deposit of Rs 5,000 or Rs 10,000 depending on the hostel, which comes back when the student leaves. Erandwane charges no prospectus fee, and that is the whole difference between its total and the Dhankawadi gents hostel. The widest gap on the page is a choice of building rather than of city: an air-conditioned single room in the new ladies hostel at Dhankawadi costs about four times the gents hostel on the same campus.

Two gaps in that schedule are worth planning around. Navi Mumbai is the only campus with no mess charge printed against its hostel, so meals there have to be budgeted separately, and the schedule prices hostels at four campuses only, with no published rate for Karad, Kolhapur, Solapur or New Delhi. Hostel admission is granted at the management's discretion rather than claimed as a right, and the hostel year runs from 1 June to 31 May, with readmission for the next year to be applied for before that date.

Faculty

Teaching strength is one of the university's better-documented numbers. Its NIRF 2025 submission enters 1,683 faculty members, and the same filing records 621 full-time doctoral scholars on the rolls, with 105 completing a Ph.D. in 2023-24, up from 83 the year before and 72 the year before that.

Consultancy, rather than grant-funded research, is where this faculty's outside work sits. For 2023-24 the same filing reports 609 consultancy projects taken on for 253 client organisations, more than twice the 261 sponsored research projects it ran with 188 funding agencies. Work of that shape pays a department's bills without generating the publications and grants a research score rewards, which is one honest reading of where the university's weakest parameter comes from.

No single roster of qualifications, designations and specialisations is published centrally. Each institute maintains its own faculty pages, so a candidate weighing prosthodontics at the Pune dental college or environmental science at the Institute of Environment Education and Research has to read that institute's list.

Notable Alumni

The university runs an alumni portal but publishes no verified roll of distinguished graduates, and the lists that circulate under the Bharati Vidyapeeth name freely mix graduates of the trust's affiliated colleges with graduates of the deemed university. Where a specific claim matters, for a scholarship application or a hiring check, the institute that awarded the degree is the body that can confirm it.

News & Articles

Announcements here arrive as numbered circulars, and the number is the thing to quote. Fee revisions are published that way on the fee-structure page, roughly one circular per faculty per year, which is how Circular No. 513 came to carry the 2026-27 medicine fees and Circular No. 526 the dentistry fees.

Test schedules move more than anything else. The university reissued its undergraduate and postgraduate CET schedules several times through the 2026 cycle, each as a fresh dated PDF on the entrance test page, and vacant-seat notices for individual programmes go up on the same page through the admission season. A date read off a third-party summary is a date that may already have been superseded on that page.

College Compare

Four Pune universities sit among the 100 ranked individually in the NIRF 2025 university table, and Bharati Vidyapeeth is the last of the four.

NIRF 2025 university rankInstitutionScore
24Symbiosis International59.16
41Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth54.90
56Savitribai Phule Pune University52.33
59Bharati Vidyapeeth51.37

Under eight points of score separate the four, and the discipline tables separate them much further. Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth places 4th in dental and 12th in medical, and Symbiosis places its law school 7th in law and its business school 11th in management. Bharati Vidyapeeth runs medical, dental, law and management colleges of its own and appears in none of those four tables; its single discipline entry is Poona College of Pharmacy at 34th in pharmacy. Savitribai Phule Pune University belongs in the list for a different reason: it is the state university that several Bharati Vidyapeeth colleges are affiliated to, which makes the two easy to confuse and impossible to swap.

Three comparisons will settle the choice better than any of those ranks. Line up the fee for your exact programme at your exact campus, since the same BBA here is Rs 2,50,000 a year in Pune and Rs 47,500 at Karad. Line up the entrance route, because a BV-CET score is read nowhere else and a JEE, CAT or MHT-CET score is not read here. And line up the discipline standing rather than the university one, since a pharmacy applicant is choosing a college in the top forty of its own table while a general applicant is choosing a university in the fifties.

Contact & Location

The registered office is in central Pune at Deccan Gymkhana, while the largest teaching cluster sits at Dhankawadi to the south of the city.
