Shri Shivaji Science College, Morshi Road, Amravati.
Shri Shivaji Science College taught nothing but science until 2024, when a business degree joined the list, and nearly everyone it teaches still comes from Maharashtra. Its ranking submission counts 1,742 of its 1,748 undergraduates as within-state students, with six from anywhere else in the country. The college's BCA seats are filled by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell, and the fourth allotment list of the current cycle went up on 7 September 2026 with ten of the 144 counselling seats still empty. That list, the ranking submission behind rank 93, and the college's own published pages are where the figures below come from.
Overview
Shri Shivaji Science College sits on Morshi Road in Shivaji Nagar, Amravati, and is affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. Its own library page still calls it a single-faculty college imparting education in the science stream only, which was exact for most of its life. The programmes page has outrun that description: a Bachelor of Business Administration now closes the undergraduate list and carries a department of its own. There is no arts faculty and no B.Com., so the science framing mostly survives, but it is no longer the whole institution.
Ownership answers the question most search results duck. This is not a government college and not a standalone private one. It is run by the Shri Shivaji Education Society, which the college's profile page dates to 1932 and attributes to Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh, and it holds grant-in-aid status, so the state pays the salary bill for its aided posts while the society runs the institution. The same page sets out an unusual founding sequence: science began as a new faculty inside Shri Shivaji College in 1958 and separated as an independent science college in 1969. Both years are true of different things, which is why sources disagree about the college's age.
Several institutions share enough of the name to send applicants to the wrong door: Shivaji College in the University of Delhi, Shivaji University in Kolhapur, Shri Shivaji College of Education in Amravati itself, the society's nursing institute on this same Shivaji Nagar campus, and the one easiest to mistake, the same society's science college in Nagpur. All are separate bodies. The one described here prints AISHE identifier C-43229 in the banner of its own website, and appears in the government ranking table under the same number as Shri Shivaji Science College, Morshi Road, Amravati.
Who studies here is worth knowing before anything else. The college's NIRF 2025 submission records 1,190 women among 1,748 undergraduates and 269 among 338 postgraduates, so women are roughly two thirds of the undergraduate roll and four fifths of the postgraduate one. The same table puts 1,742 of those undergraduates within the state and 336 of the 338 postgraduates, and records 682 undergraduates as economically backward and 922 as socially challenged. This is a college for the Vidarbha region, not a national catchment.
Courses & Fees
The degree list is long for a science college, and the programmes page dates each one, which turns the list into a history of what the college added and when.
| Started | Programme |
|---|---|
| 1958 | B.Sc. Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Zoology |
| 1981 | B.Sc. Microbiology |
| 1984 | B.Sc. Geology |
| 1988 | B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Sc. Statistics |
| 1995 | B.Sc. Computer Applications |
| 1999 | B.Sc. Environmental Science |
| 2000 | B.Sc. Biotechnology |
| 2007 | B.C.A. |
| 2019 | B.Voc. Forensic Science |
| 2024 | B.Sc. Data Analytics, B.Sc. Forensic Science, B.B.A. |
| 2025 | B.Sc. Data Science and Analytics, B.Sc. Information Technology, B.Sc. Web Design and Development |
Five of those undergraduate subjects are older than the independent college. Six more arrived in the last two admission cycles: four computing or data courses, plus forensic science and the college's first business degree. Growth is going there and not into the traditional laboratory subjects.
Grant status decides what a seat costs, and the college is explicit about which side each course falls on. The same page records that the vocational Computer Application and Biotechnology courses and the B.C.A. run on a no-grant basis, and that every postgraduate course runs on a permanently no-grant basis. The state counselling list confirms the B.C.A. independently, recording the course status as un-aided. An aided B.Sc. subject and an un-aided one are taught in the same buildings by the same college at very different prices.
Degree fees are published, but only as pictures. The fee structure page types out readable tables for the doctoral, postgraduate-diploma, career-oriented and junior-college programmes, then posts the B.Sc., B.C.A., B.B.A. and postgraduate amounts as scanned images, each splitting full-paying students from Government of India concession holders and the B.Sc. image separating its aided subjects from its un-aided ones. Two things are worth checking there rather than taking from any listing site: the first-year column of the B.Sc. table carries a dash rather than an amount, and the un-aided courses point students to government scholarship policy in place of a concession figure. Ask the office for the first-year number in writing before you plan around it.
Admissions
There are two entirely different ways in, and which one applies to you depends on the course, not on your marks.
For B.Sc. and B.Voc., the college runs its own process. Its admission notice for 2026-2027 states in Marathi that the whole first-year process runs online through the college website: you register with an email address and mobile number, complete the admission form, pay the registration fee online and keep a printout. Nothing is uploaded with it. You then appear in person before the admission committee with original documents for counselling on the date the committee sets, and pay the admission fee online afterwards. The notice also tells students that the college makes its Earn and Learn scheme available for help with filling the form on campus, which matters for applicants without a device or a connection at home.
For B.C.A. and B.B.A., the college has almost no say. The same notice records that both courses admit under the guidelines of the Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra, which in practice means the State Common Entrance Test Cell's centralised admission process on the MAH-CET merit score. The college enters the process again only at the end, to fill what the state rounds leave behind. Its schedule for the institute-level quota and probable CAP vacancies compresses that into four days: forms on 11 September 2026, a provisional merit list at 2 PM the next day with grievances closing at 5 PM and the final list at 6 PM the same evening, then counselling on the 13th and 14th. Eligibility on that route is not the college's to set either, and the schedule says so in as many words, referring it to the State Common Entrance Test Cell.
Doctoral admission runs through the university. The programmes page requires a postgraduate degree in the subject plus either the Ph.D. Aptitude Test conducted by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University or a NET or SET qualification, after which candidates approach a research supervisor directly.
Cutoff
The B.C.A. cutoff is published seat by seat and name by name, because the state fills those seats and prints what it did. The table below is the last round the State CET Cell published for 2026-27, and the column that matters is the lowest merit score actually allotted in each block.
| Seat block, CAP Round IV 2026-27 | Seats | Allotted | Highest | Lowest |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home university | 81 | 80 | 94.5675849 | 3.6653234 |
| Other than home university, to outside candidates | 9 | 7 | 70.7610574 | 17.1620756 |
| Other than home university, to home candidates | 21 | 21 | 75.6317466 | 9.6844396 |
| State level | 5 | 5 | 71.9146758 | 25.8331579 |
| Orphan quota | 1 | 1 | 57.1737345 | 57.1737345 |
| All India, on CET score | 20 | 20 | 54.2626684 | 13.0320681 |
| All India, on CUET UG score | 7 | 0 | none allotted | none allotted |
| Economically weaker section | 18 | 7 | 62.2357463 | 11.1244146 |
Read the bottom of that table before the top. A B.C.A. seat in the home-university block was allotted at a merit score of 3.6653234, and eleven of the eighteen seats reserved for economically weaker students went unfilled, as did every all-India seat tied to a CUET UG score. This course does not run out of seats. Anyone who lists it with a valid CET score and reports on time is very likely to be seated, and a high score buys a place at this college rather than competition for one.
The comparison with last year makes the direction clear. In the third round of 2025-26 the home-university block ran from 84.9393902 down to 19.2543162, and the nine tuition-fee-waiver seats closed at 69.2327835, per the 2025-26 allotment list for the same institute. A year on, the waiver block still filled all nine seats, but its eighth name carried a merit score of 12.2805894. Those seats are worth applying for on a score that would not have come close a year ago.
For the B.Sc., B.Voc. and M.Sc. courses there is no state cutoff at all, because there is no state round. The college ranks its own applicants and seats them at counselling, so the bar is whatever the last candidate admitted that year happened to score. The college does publish merit lists in that style for its institute-level quota, and they are unusually complete: its current B.B.A. list names every applicant with category, qualifying examination and merit score, topped at 96.91481. It ranks B.Sc. and B.Voc. applicants the same way, and the admission notice promises a general merit list and an admission timetable on the college website once registration closes in May. What it does not do is leave those lists up once the cycle ends, so a past year's last admitted score has to come from the admission committee rather than from a listing site.
Placements
Two official counts of the same thing exist and they are not the same number, so take both. Of the 371 undergraduates who finished on schedule in 2023-24, five times as many walked out towards another degree as towards a job: 309 to higher studies against 62 placements, the placed group on a median of Rs 3,60,000 a year, in the NIRF 2025 submission. The college's own training and placement report counts 104 students placed across the same session, because it counts every selection made at a drive, including corporate-social-responsibility training placements, and not only the graduating cohort.
| Cohort | Graduated in stipulated time | Placed | Median salary | Higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UG 2021-22 | 564 | 54 | Rs 2,50,000 | 510 |
| UG 2022-23 | 436 | 51 | Rs 3,25,000 | 353 |
| UG 2023-24 | 371 | 62 | Rs 3,60,000 | 309 |
| PG 2021-22 | 123 | 20 | Rs 2,50,000 | 24 |
| PG 2022-23 | 158 | 30 | Rs 4,30,000 | 32 |
| PG 2023-24 | 150 | 44 | Rs 4,80,000 | 15 |
At undergraduate level this is a college students leave for a master's degree, not a job: 309 to higher studies against 62 placements in the most recent year. At postgraduate level the pattern inverts, with 44 placed against 15 continuing, and the median postgraduate salary has risen in each of the three years recorded.
The department mix behind those placements is narrower than the totals suggest. The placement report names every selection it had counted for 2024-25 by February, and all 40 came from Computer Science: 20 to Q-Spiders, six to Kiran Academy, five as assistant managers at Axis Bank, four to Profound Edutech, three to Wipro and two to Pentagon. The 2023-24 list is broader, with 32 placements from Bio-Informatics alongside 31 at Pentagon and 18 at Q-Spiders, and single placements from Chemistry at Lavender Laboratories and the Amravati postal division. If you are reading this as a Botany or Geology applicant, the honest reading of the college's own report is that campus drives here are largely for computing students.
The wider recruiter list the college prints in its admission brochure mixes employers with research and public-sector destinations, from Granules, Piramal Pharma, Cognizant, Infosys and Wipro to the Geological Survey of India, the Central Ground Water Board, BARC and the Forensic Science Laboratory. That is a list of places students have gone, not an annual count.
Seat Matrix
Sanctioned intake at the college has grown, and the ranking submission records the three-year undergraduate approved intake at 656 for 2021-22, 590 for 2022-23 and 680 for 2023-24, with the two-year postgraduate intake at 215 and then 238.
The B.C.A. is the one course whose seats are broken out publicly. The state allotment list puts its sanctioned intake at 180, of which 144 go to the centralised process, split as 117 Maharashtra state seats and 27 all-India seats with no minority quota, leaving 36 institute-level seats. A further 18 economically-weaker-section seats and nine tuition-fee-waiver seats sit outside that count under their own choice codes.
Postgraduate seats are set per subject and the numbers are small everywhere except mathematics. The programmes page lists 60 seats in Mathematics, 25 in Computer Software, 20 each in Bioinformatics, Botany, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Microbiology and Geo-Informatics, and 15 each in Physics and Zoology. Doctoral intake runs to 80 across eight subjects on the same page, the largest blocks being 20 each in Zoology and Chemistry.
Rankings
The college ranks 93rd in the NIRF 2025 college table on an overall score of 54.76, and its own ranking page traces the climb: the 151-200 band in 2022 and again in 2023, then 99 in 2024, then 93. What changed between the last two years is specific.
| NIRF parameter | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Teaching, Learning and Resources | 57.36 | 67.50 |
| Research and Professional Practice | 30.83 | 27.08 |
| Graduation Outcomes | 79.59 | 73.52 |
| Outreach and Inclusivity | 41.88 | 48.57 |
| Perception | 2.11 | 4.63 |
| Overall score | 51.86 | 54.76 |
| Sources: NIRF 2024 and NIRF 2025 college rankings. |
Six places were bought with teaching resources and outreach, not with research or results. Teaching, Learning and Resources gained more than ten points and Outreach and Inclusivity gained nearly seven, while Research and Professional Practice and Graduation Outcomes both fell. Perception, which carries a tenth of the total, sits at 4.63 out of 100, so essentially nobody outside the region is voting for this college. That is the gap a prospective student is trading against a genuinely strong national rank.
Departments
Facilities & Infrastructure
Where the money goes tells you what kind of college this is. The ranking submission records capital spending on new laboratory equipment of Rs 21,57,901 in 2023-24, Rs 43,98,945 in 2022-23 and Rs 39,80,829 in 2021-22, against library spending of Rs 1,51,243, Rs 3,13,078 and Rs 3,05,417 in the same years. Laboratory equipment takes an order of magnitude more than books.
The library itself is substantial for a single-faculty college. Its own page counts 36,174 books, 928 reference books, 17 journals, 206 CDs and 21 newspapers, with DELNET and N-LIST subscriptions, barcoded issue, and opening hours of 7.30 am to 6 pm on working days.
Shared instruments sit in a Central Instrumentation Cell established with UGC funds, which its page describes as open to researchers from other universities, institutes and industry as well as to the college's own departments. The admission brochure names the instruments, including an atomic absorption spectrophotometer, HPLC, FTIR, XRD, PCR and fluorescence and UV-visible spectrophotometers, and counts 13 research laboratories on campus.
Residential provision is for women only. The Payoshni girls' hostel is on campus and was inaugurated on 7 January 2010 by Pratibha Patil, then President of India; admission to it is open to women enrolled in the college's undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and allotted on merit, subject to availability. No men's hostel appears anywhere in the college's facilities pages, which is a planning constraint for male applicants from outside Amravati.
Not every building here can be entered without stairs. Step-free entry and adapted toilets reach more than 60 per cent of them in the ranking submission, which leaves a remainder the filing does not name, and walking aids plus help moving between blocks are listed as provided. The gap is worth a phone call before a department is chosen.
Hostel
Faculty
Payroll dwarfs everything else this college spends money on. Salaries for teaching and non-teaching staff reached Rs 24,32,17,182 in 2023-24, set against 115 faculty members entered in the NIRF 2025 submission. Teaching is organised into sixteen senior-college departments plus a junior college, listed on the college's own navigation.
Research supervision is concentrated in a smaller group. The college's research page counts 34 supervisors, 95 doctoral enrolments over the last five years with 39 degrees awarded, 78 papers in UGC or Scopus listed journals, 252 peer-reviewed papers, 133 papers in proceedings, 56 books and seven patents, with research facilities in eight departments. Set that against a Research and Professional Practice score of 27.08 out of 100 in NIRF 2025: the output is real and the national scoring of it is modest.

Contact & Location
The campus address is Shivaji Nagar, Morshi Road, Amravati 444603, and the district administration's directory places it in the Gadge Nagar area of the city on the same pincode. The college's contact page gives the office line as 0721-2660855 and names Dr. G. V. Korpe as Principal and Dr. S. P. Ingole as IQAC coordinator.
That page also asks applicants not to contact the Principal directly and routes enquiries by task: an office in-charge for general work, one clerk for undergraduate and postgraduate admission and examination queries, another pair of names for document verification for alumni and employers, a third for fee collection and a fourth for scholarship validity. Course-wise admission contacts are published separately in the admission brochure, which lists a convener and thirteen more committee members with mobile numbers for the 2026-27 cycle.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
The college holds an A+ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council with a CGPA of 3.42 in its fourth cycle, and the certificates page publishes the validity dates rather than the grade alone: 6 September 2022 to 5 September 2027. The same page lists four certificates going back to 2001, so this is a continuously accredited institution rather than a recently assessed one.
Beyond accreditation, the college's profile page claims a set of central recognitions: DBT Star College status under the strengthening component, a Level-1 grant under the DBT BUILDER programme, DST-FIST identification, PM-USHA Component-3 funding, College with Potential for Excellence status from the UGC in its second phase, and nomination as a lead college by Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University. Those are the college's own statements of what it has been granted; the NAAC grade and the NIRF rank are the two that can be checked against an external register.
Aid
Scholarships
Fee support here is not a small programme at the edges. Government money pays the tuition of 991 undergraduates and 176 postgraduates on this campus, against rolls of 1,748 and 338, on the ranking submission's own count. A further 10 undergraduates are carried on institution funds and 32 by private bodies, while 571 get no full reimbursement at all. More than half the undergraduate roll, in other words, studies here on a state or central waiver.
The routes to it are listed with their income tests on the college's scholarships and prizes page. The Government of India Scholarship covers SC and ST students whose parental income is below two lakh, and VJNT, OBC and SBC students below one lakh; the Government of India Freeship covers VJNT, OBC and SBC students between one lakh and Rs 4,50,000, with no upper limit for SC and ST students. For the B.C.A., that page restricts both schemes to SC candidates, which is a real constraint on an un-aided course. State schemes sit alongside them, including the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Merit Scholarship, an open merit scholarship for students above 60 per cent in Class XII, a mathematics and physics merit scholarship for B.Sc. entrants, and Eklavya support for postgraduates above 70 per cent.
The college's alumni association, registered as MH/700/06, funds a separate hardship route, and the same page records it as providing around Rs 50,000 a year to economically weaker students identified through the guardian teacher scheme. There are also two cash prizes of Rs 5,000 each for economically weaker first-year B.Sc. students, and a long list of endowed gold medals, most of them subject-wise for the top student in a single paper.

Student Reviews
We hold no verified student reviews for this college, and the college puts no student satisfaction survey on its public pages, so a star rating quoted for it anywhere has come from somewhere unaccountable. Two external signals do exist, and they disagree with each other. The first is NIRF's Perception score, 4.63 out of 100 in 2025, close to the floor of that parameter, though it measures what academic peers and employers think rather than what students on this campus experience.
The second is harder than opinion. The college's achievements page records its students as champions of the Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University youth festival in 2024, for the fourth consecutive time, which is a result won against every other college in the university rather than a claim the college makes about itself.
