Pgdav College

Search for PGDAV College and the results hand you two different institutions. Both answer to P.G.D.A.V., both are constituent colleges of the University of Delhi, and both sit at the same address on the Ring Road at Nehru Nagar. One is the day college, which carried 1,402 undergraduate seats in Delhi University's 2026-27 matrix. The other is PGDAV College (Evening), a separate college with its own website, its own seat matrix and its own closing scores.

Everything below is the day college. Where a figure could be mistaken for the evening one, this page says so.

Overview

The initials stand for Pannalal Girdharlal Dayanand Anglo-Vedic, and the college's history page dates the founding to 1957 under the DAV College Managing Committee, naming two inheritances: the University of Delhi, and the DAV Education Trust, which that page credits with a university and over 900 schools and colleges. Its own recruitment brochure puts the second inheritance in plainer terms, calling the college an embodiment of the Dayanand Anglo Vedic movement and rooting it in the ideals of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati. The lineage is not decorative. Sanskrit is a full honours department here, and the same brochure lists Dr Punam Suri, president of the D.A.V. College Managing Committee, among dignitaries who have visited, alongside Shri Ram Nath Kovind as a former President of India.

Who pays for it is a separate question from who founded it, and the college answers it in its own filing. Its quality report for 2022-23 records the institution as a constituent, co-educational college of the University of Delhi holding UGC 2f and 12(B) status, and lists a single central grant against the college for that year: a UGC maintenance fund of Rs 50,85,82,000. Trust-founded, university-constituent, UGC-funded, all three at once.

The roll is large and, less obviously, mostly not local. That same quality report counts 4,172 students, and the college's India Rankings 2025 submission splits its 3,710 undergraduates into 1,759 whose home is in Delhi and 1,951 whose home is not. The outsiders are in the majority at a college that publishes no hostel of its own, which makes rent in the colonies around Lajpat Nagar part of the real cost of a seat here.

Courses & Fees

Thirteen undergraduate degrees, taught by twelve departments, and not one laboratory science among them. The courses page puts the catalogue in Arts, Commerce, Computer Science and Mathematical Sciences, with postgraduate teaching limited to Commerce, Hindi, Mathematics and Political Science. If you want Physics, Chemistry, Botany or Zoology as an honours subject, this address cannot give it to you in any form.

Twelve of the thirteen cost the same Rs 17,980, because the bill is a stack of university and college heads rather than a price per subject: tuition itself is Rs 180 of it, and the two largest lines are a college student welfare fund of Rs 5,695 and college facilities and services charges of Rs 5,415, on the 2026-27 schedule. Computer Science is the exception. It runs as a self-financing course, and the same schedule adds a course fee of Rs 22,500 and a computer usage fee of Rs 4,800 on top of the common total, which is why its row above carries three figures instead of one.

Check the PDF, not the web page. The college's own fee structure page for 2026-27 still prints a table headed 2023-24 whose total is Rs 14,560, with the Computer Science additions at Rs 22,000 and Rs 4,500, while the current file linked from that same page carries the higher figures. Budget from the visible table and every line will be short.

Admissions

This college controls none of the marks and most of the confusion. Its 1,402 seats, the sanctioned intake entered on its ranking submission, go strictly on CUET-UG score in rounds run by the university's admission branch under the Common Seat Allocation System, with no test, no interview and no college-set threshold anywhere in the sequence; the scores further down this page are what that branch recorded after the fact, not conditions announced ahead of it. What a candidate decides is the order of a preference list, and this address puts more entries on that list than a catalogue of thirteen degrees implies. The trap is the B.A. Programme. It appears on the preference list as eight separate subject pairings, each with its own seat block and its own closing score, and the college's seat matrix sizes them from 77 in History with Political Science down to 15 in Physical Education with Political Science. Pick one pairing and you have joined one queue, not eight.

The supernumerary routes here are unusually lopsided, and the sports one is the largest. Its sports seat matrix for 2026-27 sets out seven games and a men-to-women split that no other part of this college repeats.

GameMenWomen
Cricket180
Football120
Volleyball100
Boxing42
Judo22
Taekwondo22
Athletics11

Read the zeros. The three team games that carry the deepest quotas here are closed to women entirely, so a woman who plays cricket, football or volleyball for her state has no sports route into this college, while a man in any of the seven has the broadest supernumerary entry the college offers. The two NCC seats run the other way, being reserved for girls, but two is not a counterweight to forty.

The cultural quota is small enough to name in one line. Its ECA seat matrix totals 14 seats: two for Indian classical dance, two for theatre, two for NSS, two for NCC that the matrix marks as open only to girls, and one apiece for Hindi debate, sketching and painting, Indian vocal music, tabla, harmonium and western keyboard. English debate, creative writing, photography, film-making, animation and quiz are all marked NIL, so trials in those disciplines lead nowhere at this address.

Cutoff

Nothing here is a threshold set in advance. Every figure below is where a programme stopped once its share of seats had gone in that round, and in the first round of 2026-27 this college's unreserved column ran from 730.1603 at the top of it to 259.8443 at the foot.

Commerce is the bar and the two language honours are the floor, which inverts what a name ending in Anglo-Vedic suggests to a first-time reader. In that first round, an unreserved candidate needed 730.1603 for B.Com. (Hons.) and 374.4057 for Sanskrit, while Hindi went at 259.8443.

Later rounds are where the floor gives way completely. The second round took unreserved B.A. (Hons.) Hindi to 46.8448 and put a Computer Science seat into ST hands at 19.026, both on a score scale where the commerce honours seat in the same building was still changing hands above 700. By the third round most programmes were allocating only against reserved and single-girl-child categories, and the spot round still had unreserved seats to give in Economics at 661.5301 and in B.Com. (Hons.) at 705.8103. Across the whole season the unreserved commerce line hardly moved, opening at 730.1603 in the first round and still standing above 700 when the spot round closed. Hindi fell out from under it, from 259.8443 in that first round to 46.8448 in the second.

Now the comparison that the shared address makes necessary. In that same first round, B.Com. (Hons.) at the day college closed at 730.1603 and at PGDAV College (Evening) at 658.9247; B.A. (Hons.) Political Science closed at 672.7602 here and 567.6498 there. The day college closes higher in both, and the evening one carries pairings and degrees that the day college does not teach at all, so the two lists are not interchangeable even where the course names match.

Placements

The college's ranking submission covers three graduating years, and the trend inside it goes the wrong way.

Graduating yearGraduated in stipulated timePlacedMedian annual salaryHigher studies
2021-221207129Rs 4,80,00067
2022-231214182Rs 5,43,00081
2023-24139265Rs 4,50,000129

Read the 2023-24 row against the one above it. The graduating class rose from 1,214 to 1,392 while campus placements fell from 182 to 65 in that submission, so the share leaving with a job in hand dropped from roughly one in seven to under one in twenty, while the count going on to further study climbed to 129. The postgraduate side of the same submission reports zero placements and a zero median salary in all three years, so an M.Com. or M.A. here should be planned as an academic step and nothing else.

The 2022-23 figures are the only ones filed twice, and they hold up: the quality report for that year independently records 182 placed and 81 progressing to higher education, and adds a detail the ranking form does not ask for, namely that 9 students cleared a state, national or international level examination.

The cell's own account of itself is brighter, and it does not hold together. The statistics page of its recruitment brochure gives its own season a highest CTC and an average CTC in lakhs per annum, while two leaves earlier the same document sums that season up as a range of offers whose upper end sits far below the highest CTC it goes on to claim; it also covers a later season than the 65 placements the college filed for 2023-24 on its ranking submission. Both halves of the brochure cannot be true of one year, and nothing in it is audited by anyone outside the cell, so read both pages before repeating either and treat the ranking table above as the record.

One number in the cell's paperwork is a rule rather than a claim, and it is the most useful thing it publishes: its recruiter policy requires any employer recruiting here to offer a minimum guaranteed Cost-to-Company of Rs 3,60,000 per annum. That is the floor under every offer made on this campus, and unlike a headline package it is enforceable. Recruiter names are the sturdier part of the brochure: it lists Ernst & Young, Accenture, BT Group, HCLTech, Decathlon, BDO Rise and Scaler among firms that have recruited through the cell, and the cell's notice board carries dated drives for EY-GDS, BDO-RISE and Willis Tower Watson across 2025 and 2026.

Seat Matrix

The split by category is fixed by the university, not by the college, and it is what turns 1,402 seats into a much smaller number for any one applicant.

B.Com. alone is sized at 346 seats and B.Com. (Hons) at 231 on the college's own matrix, which makes the plain commerce degree larger than every science and mathematics programme in the building put together. The total is corroborated from the other side: the college entered a sanctioned undergraduate intake of 1,402 for 2023-24 in its ranking submission, the same figure the university's 2026 matrix produces when its rows are added up.

Rankings

Number 97, on a score of 54.52, is where the NIRF 2025 college table puts PGDAV College. Nothing else in government ranks Delhi University's colleges, so that line is the only external comparison anywhere on this page.

NIRF 2025 parameterScore
Teaching, learning and resources67.60
Graduation outcomes60.06
Outreach and inclusivity57.19
Research and professional practice39.65
Perception7.99

Teaching, learning and resources at 67.60 is the college's best showing, and it is the parameter that staffing and money move, which suits an institution drawing the UGC maintenance grant of Rs 50,85,82,000 set out in its quality report and entering 180 faculty members on the return NIRF actually scored. Research and professional practice at 39.65 is the weaker half of the picture, and the catalogue explains part of it: a college with no laboratory science departments has fewer places for funded research to happen. Perception scored 7.99 on that same table, and since it records only what academics and employers say about the name, it is the drag holding the overall score down rather than anything the college does with its students.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The estate is large and the college says so: its campus page calls it one of the largest constituent colleges of the university, located on the Ring Road near Vinobapuri metro station, with an old and a new auditorium and a Central Bank of India branch on the premises. Its overview counts two academic blocks holding 52 classrooms, 25 of them smart classrooms, and 12 tutorial rooms, with the quality report adding two seminar halls and 1,789 computers on campus for academic purposes.

Nothing else on this campus is documented in the detail the library is, and nothing else holds up as well under the detail. The quality report records 1,03,907 books and 4,534 bound volumes of journals, 65 periodicals and 18 newspapers on subscription, 1,871 books bought in that year alone, and a book bank of 12,497 volumes lent to students who need them. It has run on an automated system since 2004 and subscribes to N-LIST for e-resources. For a student who cannot buy a full set of texts, the book bank is the most concrete thing this college offers.

A candidate who needs step-free access should read the college's ranking submission before the open day. It answers with proportions rather than a bare yes, putting both lifts or ramps and specially designed toilets above the 80 per cent mark of the estate, and it confirms that wheelchairs and transport between blocks can be arranged. Accommodation is the gap. Nothing on the college's website describes a hostel or any residential provision, which matters more here than at most DU colleges because most of its undergraduates come from outside Delhi.

Hostel

Faculty

Twelve teaching departments, and the staff room is close to but not at full strength: 163 full-time teachers against 177 sanctioned posts in 2022-23, on the quality report. The same report puts 101 of them, a little under two in three, with a doctorate, and their combined teaching experience at this institution at 1,945 years. That year's promotion round took six of them to professor.

Two other counts circulate and neither contradicts the above so much as dates it differently: the ranking submission entered 180 faculty members, and the college's overview page claims 173. None of the three splits the staff by department, and with 346 seats in B.Com. against 49 in Sanskrit on the college seat matrix, the teaching strength behind your particular degree is the question to put to that department on the day you visit.

official-report

The grade a candidate will see quoted on third-party pages is not the grade the college files. Its quality report, submitted in December 2023, records one accreditation: NAAC grade B+ at a CGPA of 2.74, awarded in 2016 and valid from 17 March 2016 to 16 March 2021. That validity has run out, and the report names no later cycle.

Work is visibly under way on the next one. The college publishes supporting documents for NAAC cycle 3 covering 2022-23 and 2023-24, which is the paperwork a fresh assessment needs. Until that assessment concludes, B+ at 2.74 is the accurate answer, and any page claiming an A grade for this college is quoting something it cannot show you. UGC recognition under sections 2f and 12(B) is separate, current, and confirmed in the same report. No NBA accreditation is recorded anywhere in that report, which follows from the catalogue: the thirteen degrees at Nehru Nagar are commerce, arts, mathematics, statistics and computer science, not the professional programmes NBA assesses.

Scholarships

Scheme money reaches a small minority. In 2022-23, government scholarships and freeships went to 76 students and institutional or non-government awards to 188, against 4,172 on roll, per the quality report. That is roughly one student in sixteen receiving either.

The college's scholarships page points mainly outward: to the National Scholarship Portal, to the Delhi government's e-District post-matric schemes for SC, ST, OBC and minority students, and to PM-USP for students from Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh studying outside their home region. The one college-specific item on it, a KEB Hana Bank grant of Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 for students from weaker sections, carries an application deadline of 5 November 2022 and has not been refreshed since. Treat that page as a directory of national schemes rather than a live list of what you can apply for here, and ask the office directly what is open in the current session.

Student Reviews

Expertie publishes no rating for this college. The star averages that rank for its name are pooled from anonymous submissions that nobody has tied to a person who sat in a Nehru Nagar classroom, and averaging unverified entries produces a number with the look of evidence and none of the substance.

What the college publishes instead is better, if you read the arithmetic rather than the summary. Its student satisfaction survey for 2022-23 asked second and third year students 31 questions and normalises each answer onto a scale from 0 to 4. The summary bullets at the end count "agree to some extent" as agreement, which is how the worst-scoring question in the entire document still reads 59 per cent there, and sports facilities read 74 per cent. The underlying scores are more useful: availability of doctors in the medical room came last of the 31 at 1.907, adequacy of sports and fitness facilities scored 2.391 with 14.6 per cent disagreeing outright, and computer lab facilities scored 2.428. Library stock also drew a dissenting sixth, at 15.2 per cent. A college whose deepest supernumerary intake is its sports quota scoring near the bottom of its own survey on sports facilities is the most useful line in that document, and worth raising on an open day.
