S. P. Jain Institute Of Management And Research
SPJIMR admits its flagship two-year PGDM on the strength of your whole profile rather than a single CAT percentile, and it will read a GMAT score in place of a CAT one. That is the first thing to understand about the S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, an autonomous Mumbai business school run by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and ranked 20th in the Ministry of Education's 2025 NIRF management list. The PGDM fee for Indian participants is ₹24,86,000, and the 2024-26 batch left with an average package of ₹33.6 lakh. What the institute does not do is publish a closing percentile you can screen yourself against, which changes how you should prepare an application.
Overview
The Shreyans Prasad Jain Institute of Management and Research, universally shortened to SPJIMR, is a private business school in the Andheri area of Mumbai, constituted under the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, per its Wikipedia entry. It was established in 1981, and its foundation stone was laid on 17 April 1981 by the then British prime minister Margaret Thatcher. It operates as an autonomous institute with no university affiliation, which is why its main postgraduate qualification is a diploma awarded in its own name rather than a university MBA degree. On its own home page the school calls itself "a different kind of business school" and organises its teaching around what it terms wise innovation. One point worth settling before you read further: SPJIMR at spjimr.org is a separate institution from SP Jain School of Global Management, a differently owned school whose Mumbai campus sits in the Bandra Kurla Complex area; the two share a family name and little else.
Courses & Fees
The two-year PGDM is SPJIMR's flagship, and it runs alongside a spread of postgraduate, executive, modular and doctoral offerings listed on its home page. The full-time PGDM comes in two streams, the general PGDM and a separate PGDM in Business Management, and the one-year PGPM is built for candidates who already have several years of work behind them.
| Programme | Format | Route in |
|---|---|---|
| PGDM (flagship, two years) | Full-time, residential | Profile, CAT or GMAT score, interview |
| PGDM in Business Management (PGDM-BM) | Full-time, residential | Own admissions process |
| PGPM (Post Graduate Programme in Management) | One year, for experienced candidates | Own admissions process |
| Global Management Programme (GMP) | Full-time | Own admissions process |
| PGEMP and PGPMBM | Part-time, for working professionals | Own admissions process |
| PGPFMB (Family Managed Business), PGPDM (Development Management) | Modular | Own admissions process |
| Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) | Doctoral | Own admissions process |
The number below covers the two-year PGDM alone. SPJIMR's working-professional and modular tracks, the PGEMP, the PGPMBM and the family-business PGPFMB among them, are priced separately, and each sets out its own cost when it opens. The PGDM fees and scholarships page puts the fee for Indian participants at ₹24,86,000, which it states covers the tuition fee and basic hostel accommodation. International participants pay ₹34,77,500 on the same terms. Neither figure includes mess, food, travel or personal costs, and the institute marks the fee as indicative and open to revision.
| Head | Amount | Source |
|---|---|---|
| PGDM fee, Indian participants | ₹24,86,000 (tuition plus basic hostel) | Fees and scholarships |
| PGDM fee, international participants | ₹34,77,500 | Fees and scholarships |
| Application processing fee | ₹2000 | PGDM admissions |
Admissions
Admission to the PGDM is where SPJIMR parts company with the pure-percentile schools, and its admissions page is explicit about it: an applicant is assessed on the basis of the profile, the qualifying entrance scores and the interview process, in that framing. The eligibility bar is a bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least 50% marks or the equivalent CGPA from a recognised university, and both fresh graduates and candidates with up to five years of work experience may apply.
The exam score is a gate, not the verdict. CAT and GMAT scores are both accepted, so a candidate who sat the GMAT rather than the CAT is not shut out. Applicants are first shortlisted on their profiles and a qualifying score, then taken through an interview stage before an offer is made. The institute stresses that admission is strictly merit-based with no management or other quota, that it contacts shortlisted candidates directly, and that it appoints no intermediary who can promise a seat for a fee. Applications open in mid-September and close at the end of November, and the application processing fee is ₹2000.
Cutoff
SPJIMR does not release a closing CAT percentile or a rank the way engineering counselling or some peer schools do, so there is no single cutoff number to plan against. What its admissions page sets instead is a qualifying-score requirement: a candidate must meet the minimum score in at least one accepted entrance exam, CAT or GMAT, to be considered, after which the profile and the interview decide the outcome. In practice that means clearing the exam is necessary but never sufficient here. Two applicants with the same CAT score can end with different results because the academic record, work experience, achievements and interview carry real weight in a profile-based read. If you are used to screening yourself against a published percentile, this is the section to reset your expectations on: there is nothing official to screen against, and the honest preparation is a strong, well-argued application rather than one more mock test.
Placements
SPJIMR publishes its placement highlights by programme and batch on its placements page, and reports audited placement figures for the PGDM. The numbers below are the final placement highlights for the 2024-26 cohort.
| Metric (PGDM 2024-26, final) | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Average CTC | ₹33.6 LPA | SPJIMR placements |
| Median CTC | ₹32.85 LPA | SPJIMR placements |
| Highest CTC | ₹75 LPA | SPJIMR placements |
The Business Management stream reports separately, at an average CTC of ₹34.05 LPA, a median of ₹32.85 LPA and a highest of ₹65 LPA for the same 2024-26 batch, per the placements page. The one-year PGPM 2024-25 cohort recorded an average CTC of ₹24.40 LPA and a 119% average increase over participants' incoming pay, which is the figure that matters for an experienced applicant weighing the cost of a year out. The institute states it places its batches fully every year, and its recruiter list runs across consulting, finance, FMCG and technology, naming firms such as McKinsey & Company, Boston Consulting Group, Goldman Sachs, Hindustan Unilever and Procter & Gamble on the same placements page. Read the average and the highest apart: the ₹75 lakh top offer is a single outlier, and the median near ₹32.85 lakh is the more honest number to plan a loan around.
Seat Matrix
SPJIMR is a private autonomous institute that fills its PGDM through its own profile-based process, not through a state or central counselling allotment, so there is no public category-wise seat matrix of the kind JoSAA or a CET portal would publish. One sanctioned figure is on the record: the Government of India, through AICTE, has allocated the PGDM an additional 36 seats to be filled exclusively by international students, including Persons of Indian Origin, Overseas Citizens of India, children of Indian workers in the Gulf, and foreign nationals, per the admissions page. For the current domestic intake by stream, the institute does not publish a consolidated seat-matrix table, so the admissions office is the reliable place to confirm the exact number for a given cycle.
Rankings
SPJIMR sits at rank 20 in the Ministry of Education's 2025 NIRF management ranking, with an overall score of 62.06.
| Ranking (2025) | Rank | Score | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| NIRF Management | 20 | 62.06 | NIRF 2025 Management |
The NIRF 2025 management ranking records where that score is built and where it is held back. The institute scores 98.83 on graduation outcomes, the single strongest of its five parameters and a direct read of how its cohorts place and progress, and 79.62 on teaching, learning and resources. It is pulled down by 32.08 on research and professional practice and 20.19 on perception, the parameter that stands in for how peers and recruiters rate a school by name. Beyond the domestic table, SPJIMR's home page records a 35th-place finish globally in the Financial Times Masters in Management 2025 ranking, a foreign ranking measuring an Indian school's own programme.
Departments
Facilities & Infrastructure
SPJIMR's campus occupies about 45 acres in Andheri, at Munshi Nagar off Dadabhai Road in Andheri West, per its Wikipedia entry and the address on its fees page. The flagship PGDM is a residential programme, which is why the fee already folds in basic hostel accommodation instead of billing it separately. Beyond that, the school does not publish a facility-by-facility inventory, so a prospective student who wants specifics on library, hostel or sports infrastructure is better served by an official campus visit or the admissions office than by any secondhand list.
Hostel
Faculty
SPJIMR teaches largely through the case method and organises its faculty around its programmes and practice areas rather than a single published headcount. Its dean is Varun Nagaraj, an IIT Bombay graduate appointed to the role in June 2021, per the institute's Wikipedia entry. The same faculty carry the doctoral Fellow Programme in Management alongside the PGDM, which is the usual signal that research and teaching sit with the same people. For a name-by-name view, SPJIMR keeps a faculty directory organised by practice area on its own site, which is more current than any headcount a third-party aggregator would carry.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
SPJIMR's flagship PGDM is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, the statutory approval an autonomous management diploma needs; its admissions page references both the AICTE seat allocation and the AICTE regulation under which admission grievances are handled. The institute was first accredited by India's National Board of Accreditation in 2007, per its Wikipedia entry. On the international side, its home page reports the Triple Crown of business-school accreditations, AACSB, AMBA of the UK and EQUIS of the EFMD, which are foreign accrediting bodies assessing an Indian school and a distinction only a small share of business schools worldwide hold.
Aid
Scholarships
SPJIMR runs need-linked financial assistance for the PGDM rather than a blanket fee waiver, and the terms are on its fees and scholarships page. The named Mirae Asset Foundation scholarships award ₹5 lakhs each to two participants from the first year and two from the second year whose family income is less than ₹8 lakhs, with recipients designated Mirae Asset Scholars and the detailed guidelines circulated once the programme begins. A separate merit-cum-means award reimburses part of the tuition component for eligible participants, with applications invited in July. Because both are income-tested and limited in number, a candidate counting on one should read the eligibility and the deadline on that page rather than assume the aid is automatic.

Student Reviews
No structured student-rating dataset from an official source is available for SPJIMR, so no star rating is displayed here. Anonymous scores compiled by admissions aggregators are not a dependable measure and are left out on purpose. The placement record above and the NIRF parameter profile are the sourced signals to weigh in their place.
