Indian Institute Of Management Udaipur

Udaipur, Rajasthan Est. 2010 Official site Updated
NIRF Management
#21

IIM Udaipur is one of the younger Indian Institutes of Management, set up by the central government in 2011 and now placed 21st in the NIRF 2025 management ranking with an overall score of 61.79. Its flagship two-year MBA is reached through the CAT, and its own NIRF 2025 filing records a median salary of Rs 18,00,000 for the batch that graduated in 2023-24, with all 315 students who finished on time placed. What sets the school apart from most IIMs is not size but shape: it is AACSB accredited, it runs two one-year specialised MBAs alongside the flagship, and the fee is billed term by term rather than as a single lump sum. The numbers below are drawn from the institute's own filings and the official NIRF tables.

Overview

IIM Udaipur belongs to the generation of IIMs the government created early in the 2010s, taking its first students in 2011 and settling on its own residential campus at Balicha on the edge of Udaipur, Rajasthan. It is an institution of national importance under the IIM Act, which lets it award its own degrees, and it is led by director Ashok Banerjee, named in its NIRF 2025 faculty return.

Two features give the school an identity distinct from the older IIMs. It carries AACSB accreditation, the international business-school quality mark held by only a handful of Indian institutes, confirmed on the AACSB accreditation directory. And it has built its academic profile around focused, career-specific programmes rather than a single generalist MBA, a choice that runs right through its course list. The choice it puts to an applicant is the one every young IIM poses in its own way: here, a real IIM that is research-forward and carries an international accreditation, set against the decades of alumni seniority the founding IIMs can call on.

Courses & Fees

The flagship is the two-year, full-time MBA that the CAT feeds. Around it IIM Udaipur runs an unusually programme-led portfolio for a school of its age, listed on its programmes page: two one-year MBAs, one in Digital Enterprise Management and one in Global Supply Chain Management, a four-year BBA, an Executive MBA, and doctoral study through both a PhD and an Executive PhD. That spread, rather than a large single cohort, is how the institute has grown.

For the two-year MBA, the institute bills the fee across six terms instead of quoting one figure, and it publishes the full term-by-term schedule for the 2026-28 batch on its fees and financing page. Tuition alone runs from Rs 2,60,700 in the first term to Rs 3,30,000 in the second and third, then holds at Rs 3,00,000 in each of the second-year terms; hostel and mess charges and a one-time refundable caution deposit of Rs 20,000 sit on top, and the advance of Rs 1,00,000 paid on accepting the offer is adjusted against the first term's tuition rather than charged over it. The all-in term totals are set out below.

Term (2026-28 batch)Term total
Term IRs 3,29,955
Term IIRs 3,83,298
Term IIIRs 3,79,255
Term IVRs 3,56,250
Term VRs 3,51,250
Term VIRs 3,51,250

Because the institute reserves the right to revise charges, the schedule above holds for the 2026-28 intake and should be re-checked for a later batch.

Admissions

The two-year MBA takes students in on the CAT alone, with no group discussion and no shared counselling pool; once results are out, IIM Udaipur runs its own shortlisting and interview cycle from start to finish. Eligibility is a bachelor's degree in any discipline plus a valid CAT scorecard, and the binding rules for each intake sit on the MBA admissions page.

Selection moves in two stages. The institute first shortlists candidates for a personal interview using category-wise cut-offs on both the overall and each sectional CAT percentile, read together with a profile score built from the candidate's Class 10, Class 12 and graduation record. Shortlisted applicants complete a mandatory online registration and are then interviewed at Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai or on the Udaipur campus. After the interview, the final merit list is decided on a composite score: the admissions policy for the 2026-28 batch weights the normalised CAT score at 55 per cent, the personal interview at 25 per cent, and the profile at 20 per cent. A candidate below a minimum interview score is left off the list regardless of CAT performance, so a strong percentile opens the door but does not settle the outcome.

Cutoff

No fixed percentile guarantees a seat at IIM Udaipur. The shortlisting bar is rebuilt from each year's CAT results, and the admissions policy frames it as two conditions an applicant clears together: a category-wise cut-off on the overall percentile, and a separate floor in each of the three CAT sections. Clear the overall bar but slip under a sectional floor in even one area, and the shortlist passes you over.

One feature of Udaipur's method matters more than any coaching-page percentile. Once a candidate is shortlisted, the institute sets the percentile aside and ranks on the raw CAT score instead, so the measure that earns an interview call and the measure that finally admits are not the same thing at all. Read any percentile circulated ahead of the official list as an indicative shortlist level, and wait for the institute's own admission notification for the number that binds.

Placements

IIM Udaipur reports one placement figure through a primary channel, the NIRF median, and across three filings it has stayed inside a tight band. The 2025 NIRF return shows a median of Rs 18,00,000 for the 2023-24 graduating batch, with all 315 students who finished on time placed; the two batches before it closed at Rs 18,53,244 and Rs 16,50,000, each fully placed and with not one graduate leaving for higher study.

Graduating batchPlaced / graduating on timeMedian salary
2023-24315 / 315Rs 18,00,000
2022-23304 / 304Rs 18,53,244
2021-22318 / 318Rs 16,50,000

Three years spent between a Rs 16,50,000 and a Rs 18,53,244 median, with everyone who graduated on time placed each year, is a steadier signal for a school of this size than any single number would be. What the filing withholds is an average and a top package, so a highest-CTC figure seen on a listing site has no backing from the institute; those, and the recruiter roster, live only in IIM Udaipur's own final placement report on its placements portal, which is the honest place to read them.

Seat Matrix

The sanctioned intake for the two-year MBA was 341 seats in 2023-24, a step up from 335 the year before, per the NIRF 2025 filing; for the incoming 2026-28 cohort the admissions policy sets a planned strength of 375. With both year-groups on campus, the programme carried 676 students at the time of the filing, 463 of them men and 213 women.

MeasureValue
Sanctioned MBA intake, 2023-24341
Planned batch size, 2026-28375
Students enrolled, both years676
Men / women463 / 213

The category-wise division of those seats follows the central reservation rules that bind every institution of national importance, and IIM Udaipur publishes the exact SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwD split in each year's admission notification rather than fixing it here. Since the sanctioned figure has climbed from 335 to 341 and the 2026-28 plan is larger again, 375 is best read as the current target strength, not a ceiling that will hold.

Rankings

The NIRF 2025 management table places IIM Udaipur 21st, on an overall score of 61.79. For a school founded in 2011 that puts it among the country's stronger management institutes, behind the founding IIMs that head the list but ahead of many older and far larger business schools. Where that composite comes from is easiest to see in the five parameters NIRF scores one by one.

NIRF 2025 management parameterScore
Overall61.79
Teaching, learning and resources81.09
Graduation outcomes88.51
Outreach and inclusivity73.18
Research and professional practice34.13
Perception22.00

That mix of scores is the fingerprint of a young institute still building its name. On the same NIRF table its graduation-outcome score of 88.51 and its teaching-and-resources score of 81.09 both sit high, the marks of a school that runs its programmes tightly and places its students, while research and professional practice at 34.13 and perception at 22.00 fall well below. Perception is the honest brake on the rank: the slowest parameter to shift, and at 22.00 the gap between a 2011 foundation and the older IIMs that recruiters and academics have known for a generation.

AACSB accreditation is the marker the NIRF number cannot carry. An international quality body has reviewed the school directly against its own standards, as its entry in the AACSB directory records, a credential only a small group of Indian business schools hold.

Departments

IIM Udaipur teaches through academic areas in the standard IIM structure rather than named departments, and its academic identity is best read off the programmes those areas support. The programmes page sets out the full portfolio: the two-year MBA, two one-year MBAs in Digital Enterprise Management and Global Supply Chain Management, a four-year BBA, an Executive MBA, and doctoral study through a PhD and an Executive PhD.

The two one-year MBAs are the clearest statement of where the school has chosen to concentrate. Building a full degree around digital enterprise and analytics, and another around supply chain management, is a bet on the two fields where a younger institute can lead rather than follow, and it is the detail an applicant weighing a specialisation should look at before applying.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The Balicha campus is fully residential and sits on the western edge of Udaipur, which keeps the whole MBA cohort housed, taught and working within one enclosure through the two years. Accessibility is engineered in rather than bolted on: the institute's NIRF 2025 filing records lifts or ramps in more than 80 per cent of its buildings, wheelchairs and walking aids on hand, and specially designed toilets across the same share of the estate.

The same filing shows a school that spends on its academic base, reporting capital outlay on library books, journals and e-resources and on laboratory upgrades in the reporting year. For a candidate the practical read is a compact, purpose-built residential campus rather than a sprawling old-city one, with the trade-off in living costs and focus that a Udaipur siting brings against a big-city location.

Hostel

Housing sits inside the campus and its cost is written straight into each term's bill, not sold as an add-on. The fee schedule lists the hostel charge at Rs 25,000 a term in year one and Rs 26,250 a term in year two, so a residential place is already paid for inside the term totals shown earlier.

The mess is the one recurring charge that moves term to term, ranging from Rs 24,255 to Rs 28,298 on the same schedule. To size the real two-year outlay, add those hostel and mess lines to tuition and hold back the refundable Rs 20,000 caution deposit on top.

Faculty

Almost every teacher at IIM Udaipur holds a doctorate. Its NIRF 2025 filing carries 61 faculty records covering everyone who joined or left within the reporting window, 57 of them still serving when the return was filed, with director Ashok Banerjee at the head of a bench of professors, associate professors and assistant professors. Behind the classroom faculty runs a doctoral cohort of 35 full-time PhD scholars.

Faculty and researchCount
Faculty records in NIRF filing61
Serving at the time of the filing57
Full-time doctoral scholars35

Read that against the ranking and the pieces fit: a compact faculty where nearly everyone holds a doctorate, paired with a running PhD programme, is the base that lifts a young school's teaching-resource and graduation-outcome scores. The academic weight here comes from research intensity for the institute's size, not from a large headcount.

Notable Alumni

The first two-year MBA class entered IIM Udaipur in 2011 and left in 2013, which leaves even the earliest graduates only now reaching their forties. An alumni body that age is still climbing through management rather than sitting at the top of it, and the institute keeps no public list of celebrated names.

Naming graduates who cannot be tied to a checkable public record would be guesswork, so this page does not attempt it. What exists instead is a working network run out of the alumni office and its regional chapters, and an applicant who wants a candid account of where the degree leads will learn more from those chapters than from any honour roll.

News & Articles

For dated notices, cut-off announcements and final placement reports, IIM Udaipur's own website is the source that binds, refreshed as each admission and recruitment cycle unfolds. A sharper measure of how busy the campus stays between intakes sits in the NIRF 2025 filing: across 2023-24 the institute ran 49 executive- and management-development programmes for 1,642 participants, the kind of standing industry traffic a research-led IIM builds its outside reputation on.

College Compare

IIM Udaipur is best measured against the IIMs of its own vintage, not against the whole system. It belongs to the group founded around 2010-11 alongside Ranchi, Rohtak, Trichy, Kashipur and Raipur, and its 2025 management rank of 21 puts it mid-table within that set.

Two things mark it out among those contemporaries. It holds AACSB accreditation, and it has built two full one-year MBAs, in Digital Enterprise Management and in Global Supply Chain Management, that few of its peers offer. Set beside the established IIMs, the ranking tells the expected story of a younger school: close on graduation outcomes and teaching resources, a long way back on perception. So a candidate choosing between an old-guard IIM and Udaipur is really weighing a long-settled brand in a metro against an internationally accredited IIM that committed to specialisation early.

Contact & Location

The campus stands at Balicha, on the western edge of Udaipur in Rajasthan, and the institute's website carries the postal address and the full admissions contact directory. Its MBA interviews are not confined to that campus: the admissions policy schedules them in Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai as well.

That spread of centres means a shortlisted candidate from outside the state seldom has to come to Rajasthan for the interview at all. Getting out to Balicha, when a visit is warranted, is no great trouble either; the city has a domestic airport and a rail head, and the campus is a short drive beyond the built-up edge.
