Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute For Postgraduate Studies And Research
Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute for Postgraduate Studies and Research is the only college from Puducherry in the Ministry of Education's NIRF 2025 college table, where it sits 51st. Nothing below a master's degree is taught here, and for a Puducherry resident the whole application is a marksheet: all 690 postgraduate seats are awarded on the aggregate scored in the Part III main and allied subjects of the bachelor's degree, with date of birth breaking a tie. Two of the sixteen programmes take women only, one seat in ten is contested without reference to where the candidate lives, and an applicant from outside the union territory now needs a CUET PG score to be considered for what the residents leave behind. Those three rules settle more applications here than the rank does.
Overview
KMGIPSR is run directly by the Government of Puducherry through the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, and its whole purpose is postgraduate. The institute opened in 1989 to provide affordable higher education at the postgraduate and research level, is affiliated to Pondicherry University, and offers sixteen postgraduate programmes and eight doctoral programmes across arts, humanities, commerce and science, with recognition under sections 2f and 12B of the UGC Act since 1993. Pondicherry University also recognises the campus as a research centre.
The name has changed twice, which is why the institute turns up under three different labels in search results and in third-party directories. It began as the Centre for PG Studies, became Kanchi Mamunivar Centre for Postgraduate Studies (KMCPGS) in 1994, and took its present name in 2019. Its own email address still carries the older initials, and so do older government orders and most directory listings. A form posted under the wrong name reaches the same office at Lawspet, but a fee or a rank quoted on a page headed KMCPGS is describing this institute under an earlier name and usually in an earlier year.
Autonomy is the second thing worth settling early. The UGC conferred autonomous status for a term of six years from 2007-08 to 2012-13, extended it for a second term up to 2018-19, and granted a third term starting from 2020-21. Under that status the syllabus, the question papers and the examinations are the institute's own work; the degree at the end is still awarded by Pondicherry University. The masthead also advertises College with Potential for Excellence, a UGC status the same document dates to five years from 2009-10 to 2013-14 and another five years up to 2018-19. Both windows have closed, so the phrase on the masthead records something the institute held until 2018-19 rather than something it holds now.
Courses & Fees
Every programme here is a two-year master's, and the teaching splits three ways: five in arts, eight in the sciences, three in commerce and tourism. Two of them are closed to men. The prospectus marks M.Sc. Home Science (Food Service Management and Dietetics) and M.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) as open to women only, which leaves a male commerce graduate the General stream and nothing else on the commerce side.
Four of the sixteen now carry a condition the earlier prospectus did not. M.A. History, M.Sc. Mathematics, M.Sc. Statistics and M.T.T.M. are offered subject to the availability of faculty members, and the application and processing fee is refunded if the programme is not offered. If your subject is on that list, ask the Director's office whether it ran last year before you commit a form to it.
Count the programmes carefully, because the institute's own pages disagree with each other. The About Us page still says 13 PG courses, 11 M.Phil programmes and 8 Ph.D. programmes, while the homepage counter says 16 PG courses and repeats the older 13 in its welcome paragraph. Trust the prospectus and the admission notice instead: the notice covers M.A., M.Sc., M.Com. in both streams and M.T.T.M. for the academic year 2026-2027, and no M.Phil. admission is advertised anywhere on the site.
What a year costs is the part most third-party listings get wrong, and the answer starts with a blank line. In the schedule the institute publishes, the tuition head carries no amount at all; what a student pays is a stack of small administrative charges. These are the amounts printed for the 2025-26 cycle, annual unless the schedule marks the head as payable once at admission.
| Fee head | M.A., M.Com., M.T.T.M. | M.Sc. other than computer science | M.Sc. Computer Science |
|---|---|---|---|
| Government account, covering admission, calendar, medical inspection, reading room and laboratory fees | Rs 200 | Rs 260 | Rs 700 |
| Quasi-government account, covering the institute development fund, accreditation and autonomy fees, insurance, stationery, internet and placement | Rs 4,670 | Rs 4,670 | Rs 5,070 |
| University account, covering registration, the university development fund and sports | Rs 135 | Rs 135 | Rs 135 |
| Grand total for the year | Rs 5,005 | Rs 5,065 | Rs 5,905 |
The current prospectus rewrites the middle block of that table, and the year's bill is higher in every column because of it. The quasi-government account is renamed the institution account, the caution money deposit and the union society fee disappear, the internet and placement heads both grow, and new heads arrive for skill enhancement courses, MOOCs, and placement and training. Its sub-total no longer varies by programme either. Read those fee pages before you budget, because none of the amounts is published on a web page, and note that the largest single head in the whole schedule is still the institute development fund rather than tuition.
Applying costs money too, and that figure moved this year. The notice sets the application and processing fee at Rs 300 for SC, ST, BT and PwD candidates of Puducherry origin and Rs 600 for others, non-refundable, payable through an Indian Bank challan, up from the Rs 200 and Rs 300 charged a cycle earlier. A separate form and a separate fee are required for each programme you apply to.
Against those charges sits the most striking line in the institute's ranking returns. Four columns on the 2026 return ask who pays the tuition of the 1,031 postgraduates on the roll. State and central government funds carry all 1,031. Institution funds carry none, private bodies none, and not one student is entered as paying without reimbursement. The previous year's return records the same pattern against a roll of 1,139. Whatever the schedule says, almost nobody here meets it out of pocket.
Admissions
No entrance examination is conducted for the master's programmes, and no counselling authority routes candidates here. The institute selects on the percentage of aggregate marks of Part III main and allied subjects in all semesters or years of the qualifying undergraduate degree; where two candidates tie, total marks including all parts are compared, and if that still ties, the candidate of higher age is ranked higher. For a Puducherry resident, the marksheet is the whole application.
Two qualifications sit on that, and both matter more to an outsider than to a local. The prospectus keeps a test in reserve, noting that if required, an entrance examination will be conducted in accordance with the order issued by the DHTE, Government of Puducherry, dated 11-03-2020. And the route for candidates from outside the union territory has changed: where residents leave seats unfilled, such vacancies may now be filled only by non-resident candidates who have appeared for CUET PG in the relevant subject, and the CUET PG score is what builds that merit list.
The floor you have to clear varies by discipline, and the relaxations are wide.
| Programme group | General candidates | OBC, BCM, MBC, EBC, BT | SC, ST, PwD |
|---|---|---|---|
| M.A. Tamil, English, French, History and Economics | 50% | 45% | Pass in the qualifying degree |
| The eight M.Sc. programmes, including Home Science and Statistics | 55% | 50% | Pass in the qualifying degree |
| M.Com. (General), M.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) and M.T.T.M. | 50% | 45% | Pass in the qualifying degree |
For the three language master's degrees, subject background outranks the mark. Applicants who studied the language as their Part III major are considered first, and only after that pool is exhausted does the institute look at those who took it under Part I or Part II. There is no upper age limit on any postgraduate programme here, which matters for a working candidate and for anyone returning to study after a gap.
The process itself is entirely offline. You download the form, prospectus, address slip and bank challan, print them, and deliver the completed set in person during working hours or by speed post to the Director at Lawspet. The institute warns in the same breath that it takes no responsibility for postal delay in delivering an admission memorandum, which is an argument for handing the form over the counter if you can. The notice for this cycle put the last date of submission at 10/7/2026, and allowed candidates awaiting VI semester results to apply on mark sheets up to the V semester and to file the sixth within seven days of Pondicherry University publishing it.
Doctoral admission runs on its own calendar and does test. Application forms were issued on 10-07-2026, submission closed on 25-07-2026, the entrance examination was held on 31-07-2026 and the results were announced on 05-08-2026, with interviews on 18-08-2026 and 19-08-2026.
Cutoff
No closing mark is published, and none exists in the form applicants usually look for. Selection lists go up programme by programme each cycle and come down when the cycle ends, so the only durable public numbers are the eligibility floor above and the distance between seats sanctioned and students actually admitted. That distance is where the real bar lives, and it has been widening.
| Admission year | Sanctioned first-year intake | Students admitted |
|---|---|---|
| 2020-21 | 710 | 674 |
| 2021-22 | 710 | 577 |
| 2022-23 | 690 | 562 |
| 2023-24 | 690 | 469 |
Four straight years of unfilled seats change what a cutoff means at KMGIPSR, and the prospectus provides for the shortfall in two directions. Vacant seats in a reserved category are transferred to the unreserved category for admission, and what residents leave behind can pass to non-residents, though only to those carrying the CUET PG score the current prospectus now demands. The live cycle showed the same slack from the other end: the institute invited M.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) applicants to move their applications to M.Com. (General) by 24.08.2026, which is not something a programme does when its list is deep. Computer science and commerce still close on merit; the twenty-seat subjects may not close at all.
Placements
Start by discounting the only placement percentage KMGIPSR puts on its own website. A recruiters block on the homepage asserts that 94% of eligible candidates are placed and that more than 30 multinational companies recruit here, yet it names no company beneath that heading, and unedited theme placeholder text still sits a few blocks above it on the same page. Set the claim against what the institute files with the ranking framework every year.
| Graduating year | Graduated in minimum time | Placed | Median salary of placed graduates | Went on to higher study |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021-22 | 596 | 300 | Rs 6,00,000 | 150 |
| 2022-23 | 540 | 315 | Rs 6,00,000 | 155 |
| 2023-24 | 545 | 365 | Rs 8,00,000 | 160 |
| 2024-25 | 461 | 325 | Rs 8,00,000 | 121 |
Read the two middle columns together rather than the salary alone. Placements peaked in 2023-24 at 365 and fell back to 325 the year after, on a graduating cohort that itself dropped from 545 to 461, so neither line is on a trend you can extend. What holds steady is the pair: in both of those years the placed and higher-study counts together account for almost the whole class. The median is calculated across the placed only, so Rs 8,00,000 describes 325 of the 461 who graduated in 2024-25, not all of them, and a candidate weighing that against a fee bill of a few thousand rupees is comparing the right two numbers as long as the denominator travels with them.
Where the cell puts its effort is visible in what it stocks. The Career Guidance and Counselling Cell was inaugurated on 12th March, 2012, prepares students for the Indian Administrative Service and its allied services, TNPSC Group-I, subordinate services in state government offices, staff selection services, banking, railways and insurance, and subscribes to Pratiyogita Kiran, Competition Success Review, Employment News, Thozhil Nesan and Indraiya Velanmai alongside the business titles. The prospectus adds an Academy for Competitive Examinations and NET that coaches for UGC-NET and CSIR-NET. That is a government-examination coaching function wearing a placement-cell name, and for a candidate whose plan is NET, TNPSC or a banking exam it is the more useful of the two. The officer in charge is Dr. P. Dinadayalan, Assistant Professor of Computer Science.
Seat Matrix
The provisional matrix for the current cycle sets out every seat by programme. Computer science, commerce and corporate secretaryship carry the largest intakes; statistics is the smallest by a wide margin.
| Programme | Seats available |
|---|---|
| M.A. Tamil | 50 |
| M.A. English | 50 |
| M.A. French | 30 |
| M.A. Economics | 50 |
| M.A. History | 40 |
| M.Sc. Mathematics | 50 |
| M.Sc. Physics | 40 |
| M.Sc. Chemistry | 40 |
| M.Sc. Botany | 40 |
| M.Sc. Zoology | 40 |
| M.Sc. Computer Science | 60 |
| M.Com. (General) | 60 |
| M.Sc. Statistics | 20 |
| M.Sc. Home Science | 30 |
| M.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) | 60 |
| M.T.T.M. | 30 |
Those seats are then cut two ways. The vertical split follows the Government of Puducherry's categories, and a community certificate issued by any other state is not accepted against them.
| Vertical category | Share of seats |
|---|---|
| Unreserved, of which 10% is filled on merit without reference to residence and 40% on merit among Puducherry residents | 50% |
| Most Backward Classes | 18% |
| Scheduled Caste | 16% |
| Other Backward Classes | 11% |
| Backward Classes Muslims | 2% |
| Extreme Backward Classes | 2% |
| Backward Tribes | 0.5% |
| Scheduled Tribe | 0.5% |
The published matrix converts those percentages into whole seats, programme by programme, and the arithmetic is worth doing before you post a form. In the largest programme on the list, M.Sc. Computer Science, 6 of the 60 seats are open merit and 24 are resident merit. Six is the number an applicant from Tamil Nadu or Kerala is really competing for, and every reserved row beneath the unreserved one needs a certificate only the Government of Puducherry can issue.
On top of the vertical split sit horizontal quotas, open to Puducherry residents alone: 15% for students from government rural schools and rural colleges in the union territory, 5% for persons with disabilities, 4% for children and grandchildren of freedom fighters, 3% for wards of ex-servicemen and 1% for meritorious sports persons, the sports quota counted across the institute rather than department by department.
Rankings
Rank 51 is the current position and it is nowhere near a settled one: inside this six-year window the institute has finished as high as 50th and as low as 80th. The framework publishes five parameter scores behind each rank, and they have not moved together.
| NIRF year | Rank | Overall | Teaching, learning and resources | Research and professional practice | Graduation outcomes | Outreach and inclusivity | Perception |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 51 | 59.58 | 60.14 | 61.41 | 83.52 | 46.27 | 7.99 |
| 2024 | 77 | 53.80 | 50.98 | 63.39 | 77.83 | 39.25 | 5.09 |
| 2023 | 50 | 56.12 | 58.81 | 45.96 | 80.08 | 45.19 | 11.74 |
| 2022 | 80 | 53.48 | 64.36 | 24.94 | 76.15 | 45.38 | 4.05 |
| 2021 | 50 | 55.01 | 70.63 | 24.66 | 71.63 | 46.51 | 4.97 |
| 2020 | 56 | 54.38 | 72.76 | 27.73 | 67.70 | 41.84 | 0.00 |
| Rank and every parameter score above are read off the NIRF College table for 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021 and 2020. |
Read the parameter columns rather than the rank. Research and professional practice climbed from 24.66 in 2021 to 61.41 in 2025, the largest movement anywhere on the table and the clearest reason the overall score held up while the intake fell. Teaching, learning and resources slid the other way, from 72.76 in 2020 to 60.14 in 2025, which is what a parameter weighing student strength and faculty numbers against sanctioned capacity does when admissions fall far short of the sanction.
Graduation outcomes rose in every year but one. The score slipped from 80.08 in 2023 to 77.83 in 2024 before recovering to 83.52 in 2025, so treat it as a climb with a dent in it rather than the unbroken rise the latest figure on its own implies.
Perception is the outlier and it has never recovered. The score was 0.00 in 2020, peaked at 11.74 in 2023 and stands at 7.99 now. That parameter measures standing among employers and academic peers rather than anything happening on campus, so a low score says the institute is not widely known outside the union territory. Weigh it if you intend to work outside Puducherry on this degree, and much less if you intend to sit a government examination, where the qualification is tested and the issuing college is not.
The rank itself deserves less weight than the score behind it. The institute posted a higher overall score in 2025 than in 2023 and still finished one place lower, because this stretch of the table is separated by tenths of a point.
Departments
Sixteen departments teach one master's programme each: Tamil, English, French, History, Economics, Commerce, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, Home Science, Corporate Secretaryship, Statistics, and Tourism and Travel. There is no faculty or school layer above them, so the department you apply to is the whole of your academic home for two years.
Doctoral work is much narrower, and the gap is the thing to check before treating a master's here as a route into research. The research programme runs in Tamil, English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Commerce, Botany and Zoology, which leaves French, History, Economics, Computer Science, Home Science, Statistics and Tourism and Travel with no doctoral route on this campus, and lists Commerce but not Corporate Secretaryship. A student in any of those departments who wants a Ph.D. moves to Pondicherry University or further afield. One naming detail is worth catching if you are matching syllabi across colleges: the botany department teaches its master's as M.Sc. Plant Biology and Biotechnology.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The campus sits on Airport Road at Lawspet, inside Puducherry town, and the institute describes its physical additions in the language of small projects rather than large buildings: herbal medicinal plants, a language laboratory, sanitary napkin incinerator facilities, Wi-Fi connectivity, CCTV surveillance, an eco-sensitive garden, mushroom cultivation, an organic manure project and a freshwater fish culture pond. Software training has come from outside since June 2015, through a partnership with IIT Bombay supplying free and open-source software training as value-added courses.
What changed recently is the capital budget, and the jump is large enough to be worth checking against the labs you would actually use.
| Capital head | 2024-25 | 2023-24 | 2022-23 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Library | Rs 22,00,000 | Rs 2,42,582 | Rs 1,60,000 |
| New equipment for laboratories | Rs 1,42,25,368 | Rs 21,70,154 | Rs 16,03,503 |
| Other capital assets, excluding land and buildings | Rs 3,51,25,000 | Rs 7,00,000 | Rs 2,40,000 |
Laboratory spending in 2024-25 ran to several times the two preceding years combined, and the library line moved by a similar order. The recurring side moved too, but nothing like as far: maintenance of academic infrastructure and consumables went from Rs 2,07,625 in 2022-23 to Rs 5,00,000 in 2024-25, and seminars, conferences and workshops from Rs 4,30,000 to Rs 14,25,000. Equipment worth more than a crore arrived against a maintenance line that roughly doubled, which is a question to put to the department rather than a verdict on it.
Accessibility is declared partial rather than complete, so ask which block your department sits in. Two of the three accessibility questions on the filing come back as more than 60% of the buildings, one covering lifts or ramps and one covering specially designed toilets; only the third, on walking aids, wheelchairs and transport between blocks, is an unqualified yes. Some blocks therefore sit on the wrong side of both lines, and the filing does not say which ones.
Hostel
No hostel appears anywhere in the institute's published material. Neither prospectus lists accommodation among its campus facilities, no residence block is named on the site, and the only mention of a hostel in the admission rules is a warning that mere stay in places such as residential hostels does not amount to the residence a Puducherry certificate requires. Anyone who needs a room should put the question to the Director's office before accepting a seat, and should assume private accommodation in Lawspet until told otherwise.
The enrolment pattern explains why the question rarely comes up. The institute reports 1,020 of its 1,031 students as living within the union territory and 11 outside it, where a year earlier the count outside was 101 of 1,139. Nine in ten of the students who used to come from elsewhere are no longer on the roll, and this is now a campus almost everyone commutes to from within Puducherry.
Faculty
The teaching roll is small and almost entirely doctoral, and the institute publishes it name by name. Its 2026 ranking return lists 57 members, every one recorded as currently working with the institution, with a designation, a qualification, experience in months and a joining date against each. Counted off that roster, 42 are assistant professors, 14 are associate professors and one is the head of the institution; 52 hold a Ph.D. and 5 an M.Phil.; 20 are women. The previous year's return entered 58 faculty members without publishing the names.
One column on that roster deserves a question at the department you are applying to. Of the 57 entries, 13 are marked adhoc or contractual rather than regular, their joining dates are 20-01-2020, 13-02-2021 or 15-02-2021, and their recorded experience runs from 65 to 96 months against the 252 and more that the longest-serving regular staff carry. A department staffed largely from that group is a different proposition from one staffed by the professors who joined a decade earlier, and the roster names both so you can check which is which before you apply.
Salaries take almost the entire recurring budget, and the line has swung hard. The institute reported spending Rs 11,64,75,949 on teaching and non-teaching salaries in 2022-23, Rs 21,93,35,229 in 2023-24 and Rs 11,87,97,536 in 2024-25. The middle year is roughly double the years on either side of it, which is the shape an arrears settlement makes rather than a hiring round, and no matching jump appears on the roster.
The institute is headed by a Director rather than a Principal. Its own page names Dr. Sasi Kanta Dash, previously Registrar of Puducherry University, with over 28 years in teaching and academic administration and earlier terms as Principal of Tagore Government Arts and Science College, of Bharathidasan Government College for Women in Puducherry and of Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College in Karaikal, and recipient of the Government of Puducherry's Best Administrator award in 2024. The ranking roster still enters a different name in the head-of-institution row, so expect a filing and a web page to disagree about who signs.
Notable Alumni
No verified alumni are named on this page. The institute maintains an alumni association with a president, vice-president, secretary, two joint-secretaries, a treasurer and an executive committee, but it publishes office bearers rather than graduates, and no role, employer, batch or achievement is recorded against any name. Nothing there can be checked, so nothing is repeated here.
The page also shows its age. It reports that the association's general body met twice in 2011-12 and names a former head of the institute as its convenor, which is fair warning about how current the network is likely to be if you are counting on it for an introduction. The career counselling cell, not the association, is the office that handles student contact with employers.
News & Articles
Announcements go up on the institute's own circulars board and nowhere else, and the current run is a fair picture of what a term here looks like. Recent orders cover the appointment of an in-charge and co-ordinator for the Research and Development cell on 31-08-2026, National Sports Day participation on 27-08-2026 with badminton and chess tournaments on 24-08-2026, a meeting with student representatives of all the departments on 20-08-2026, an Audience Choice special recognition award received on 20-08-2026, and a holiday declared on 21.08.2026 and 22.08.2026 for the Combined Graduate Level examination.
Two items on that board bear directly on an applicant. The doctoral cycle finished its interviews in the third week of August, and the master's cycle was still settling after them, with the M.Com. (Corporate Secretaryship) transfer window at the top of the page until it closed. Anyone tracking a live application should read the circulars board rather than the admission page, because the dates move there first.
College Compare
There is nobody in Puducherry to compare this institute against. It is the only entry from the union territory in the NIRF 2025 college table; the union territory's other ranked institutions are medical, dental, engineering and university entries, so none of them offers an alternative route to a master's in Tamil, commerce or botany. The colleges it is actually measured against sit in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the north-east.
| College | Rank | Overall | Research and professional practice | Graduation outcomes | Perception |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pachhunga University College, Aizawl | 49 | 59.88 | 74.50 | 64.26 | 8.79 |
| Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore | 50 | 59.74 | 15.19 | 85.46 | 14.70 |
| Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute, Puducherry | 51 | 59.58 | 61.41 | 83.52 | 7.99 |
| Holy Cross College, Tiruchirappalli | 52 | 59.47 | 32.88 | 78.78 | 17.36 |
| St. Thomas College, Thrissur | 53 | 59.19 | 45.17 | 79.28 | 3.74 |
Within a whisker of each other on the overall score, those five colleges are built very differently. KMGIPSR carries the second-highest research score in the group and the second-highest graduation outcomes, and it does that on a roll made entirely of postgraduates, since its ranking return records only two-year PG programmes and no undergraduate intake at all. Perception is where it loses to all of them but St. Thomas. Against a college of similar rank carrying a large undergraduate roll, the trade is a stronger research base and an all-master's cohort on one side, and a name that travels further outside its own state on the other.

Lawspet is inside Puducherry town rather than out on its edge, and Airport Road is the landmark to give a driver. The admission notice gives no separate enquiry number and no online form, so anything the prospectus does not answer goes to the Director's office at the address above, in person during working hours or through the mailbox the institute shares across every department.
Verified
Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
Four NAAC cycles are on the record, and the grade has moved down as well as up. The institute was accredited B++ in the first cycle in 2005, re-accredited A in the second cycle in 2013, and re-accredited B++ in the third and fourth cycles in 2019 and 2024. Its own history page carries the detail behind the peak: the second-cycle grade was an A on a CGPA of 3.19 on the four point scale, declared on 5th January, 2013. B++ is the grade in force and the one the masthead advertises.
Statutory recognition is longer-standing and matters more to a government-examination candidate than the letter grade does. The institute has held recognition under sections 2f and 12B of the UGC Act since 1993, which is what makes it eligible for central grants and what most recruitment notifications actually test for. The institute's NAAC page posts accreditation certificates for cycles I, II and III, the DVV and NAAC files for the 2024 cycle, autonomy certificates for all three terms, both Potential for Excellence phases, the 2f and 12B letter, the AISHE certificate, the affiliation letter and the name change document. That last file is the one to download if a bank or an employer queries the KMCPGS name on your marksheet.
Aid
Scholarships
Fee support here runs almost entirely through government schemes rather than institutional awards, which is consistent with a roll where every student is recorded as fully reimbursed. The scheme doing the heavy lifting is territorial. Under the Grant of Full Fees scheme implemented by the Adi Dravidar Welfare and Scheduled Tribes Welfare Department through G.O. Ms.No.8/Wel (SCW)/2020-21/3808 dated 04.01.2021, eligible SC and ST students of Puducherry origin receive full fees without any income limit, covering tuition, examination, laboratory, book and uniform charges, for two children per parent. Those students are exempted from paying the tuition fee at the point of admission rather than reimbursed later.
Everything else is applied for through central portals, and the institute's job is to circulate the deadlines on its circulars board. It currently carries the Grant of Full Fees applications for 2026-2027 closing 15-09-2026, the Adi Dravidar Welfare SC and ST scholarship extended to 30-09-2026, the National Scholarship Portal window for the centrally sponsored post-matric scholarship for OBC candidates running to 30-09-2026, and a circular on claiming more than one scholarship on a single NSP profile. For a student who needs to borrow rather than claim, the prospectus points to the PM-Vidyalaxmi scheme, a collateral-free and guarantor-free education loan available to students admitted here.

Student Reviews
No verified student rating exists for this institute, and one number could not carry what separates its departments. Two of the sixteen programmes admit women only, 1,020 of the 1,031 students come from the same union territory, and the roll runs from a twenty-seat statistics programme to a sixty-seat computer science one. An average taken across those groups would hide every difference that might change your decision.
Two public documents do more work than a score would. The institute posts a merit list and a selection list for each programme every cycle, so you can see how deep the list ran in your subject before you spend an application fee on it. And the ranking return names all 57 faculty members with their qualifications and joining dates, which tells you who would actually teach you. Then put two questions to a current student in your own department: how many classes actually ran in their first semester, and how long they waited between the merit list and the start of teaching. Nothing published about Lawspet answers either one.
Campus
Gallery
No photographs of the Lawspet campus are shown here. The institute keeps its own gallery of convocations, alumni meets, placement drives, the Central Instrumentation Centre, the green house and the girls' rest room, and no reuse licence is stated against any of it. A stock picture of an unnamed academic block would tell you nothing true about a campus on Airport Road, so the institute's own gallery is where to look until pictures taken from its site can be credited and hosted here.
