Goa College of Pharmacy sits on 18th June Road in Panaji and is run by the Government of Goa. Its B.Pharm students come through the Directorate of Technical Education's state counselling, which ranks them on physics and chemistry percentiles from JEE Main or NEET rather than on a Goa entrance test. Its M.Pharm seats are filled by the college itself on a merit list weighted towards GPAT, and in the 2026 rounds its Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry branches were left largely empty.
Overview
The college's history page traces its teaching back to a pharmacy course started on 8 November 1842 at the Portuguese-era Escola Medica de Goa, where pharmacists and doctors trained in the same school. That page also calls Goa the first place in India and Asia to teach pharmacy, which is the college's own account of its lineage rather than a finding by any regulator. After Liberation the institute took its present name and moved into a building that had been a Portuguese school; the same page gives the year of renaming once as 1963 and once as 1961, and the principal's message on the home page uses 1963.
The degree followed under the University of Bombay, then a Diploma in Pharmacy in 1966 and a research-only master's in 1970, and the college has been affiliated to Goa University since 1985, according to its history page. The same page places it under the aegis of the Directorate of Technical Education, and the Directorate's degree prospectus for 2026-27 names it as the only pharmacy college on its list of government colleges.
The student body is overwhelmingly local and mostly female. The college's ranking return for 2026 counts 387 undergraduates, 293 of them women and 372 from within Goa, alongside 88 postgraduates.
Courses & Fees
Teaching here runs from the two-year D.Pharm, which the Directorate lists at no other pharmacy institution, up to doctoral research registered with Goa University. The college's own seat figures and the admitting authorities' figures do not always agree, so both are shown here.
| Programme | Duration | Seats for 2026-27 | Admitted by |
|---|---|---|---|
| D.Pharm | 2 years | 69 in the Directorate's diploma prospectus; the college's page says 60 | Directorate of Technical Education, on HSSC science marks |
| B.Pharm | 4 years | 100, plus 10 EWS seats and 5 tuition fee waiver seats | Directorate of Technical Education, on JEE Main or NEET percentiles |
| M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance | 2 years | 15 plus 2 EWS | The college, GPAT-weighted merit |
| M.Pharm, Pharmacology | 2 years | 15 plus 2 EWS | The college, GPAT-weighted merit |
| M.Pharm, Pharmacognosy | 2 years | 15 plus 2 EWS | The college, GPAT-weighted merit |
| M.Pharm, Pharmaceutical Chemistry | 2 years | 15 plus 2 EWS | The college, GPAT-weighted merit |
| Ph.D. | 4 years | Depends on guide availability | Goa University |
The master's branches arrived in stages: Quality Assurance in 1992, Pharmacology in 2003 and Pharmacognosy in 2010. Pharmaceutical Chemistry is the newest, and its toppers' list on the college site starts with the class of 2023.
What the B.Pharm Costs
Because it is the only government pharmacy college in the Directorate's list, the prospectus line for government pharmacy fees is this college's B.Pharm fee.
| B.Pharm fee head, government institutions | Amount (Rs) |
|---|---|
| Admission fee, one time | 2,100 |
| Tuition fee, per semester | 42,000 |
| Institutional fee, including deposits | 2,000 |
| Development fee, per semester | 11,000 |
| Total at admission | 57,100 |
| Tuition, institutional and development fees at full rate | 55,000 |
| The same with a 30% concession | 42,400 |
| The same with a 50% concession | 34,000 |
What the D.Pharm and M.Pharm Cost
A first-year D.Pharm student pays an admission fee of 2100, tuition of 30000 per semester and an institutional fee of 3000, a total of 35100.
The M.Pharm is priced by the college and charges sponsored candidates more.
| M.Pharm fee head | Non-sponsored (Rs) | Sponsored (Rs) |
|---|---|---|
| Admission fee, one time | 2,500 | 2,500 |
| Tuition fee, per semester | 45,360 | 60,480 |
| Development fee, per semester | 7,500 | 9,500 |
| Caution money and library deposit, refundable | 1,400 | 1,400 |
| Total at admission | 58,060 | 75,180 |
Admissions
Each level has a different gatekeeper: the Directorate for the diploma and the degree, the college itself for the M.Pharm, and Goa University for the Ph.D.
B.Pharm. The Directorate's 2026-27 degree prospectus requires a valid JEE Main 2026 or NEET 2026 score and builds the merit list on the best aggregate percentile in physics and chemistry from either paper, with earlier years' scores not accepted. You need HSSC with physics and chemistry plus mathematics or biology, there is no age limit, and seats are chosen in person at the admission centre in Porvorim. For vacant B.Pharm seats this year, the Directorate called an admission round on 12/09/2026 open to merit-listed and new applicants.
M.Pharm. The college's prospectus asks for a B.Pharm with 55% (50% for SC and ST candidates) and a GPAT 2025 or 2026 score, and ranks applicants with 30% weightage on the cumulative B.Pharm result and 70% on GPAT. Graduates of universities other than Goa University must hold GPAT and a provisional eligibility certificate from Goa University's registrar. Non-GPAT candidates are considered only when GPAT holders run out. Every admitted student must register with the State Pharmacy Council within one month.
The branches carry duties of their own. Pharmacology students must take vaccines such as rabies and tetanus and help maintain the animal house, and pharmacognosy students tend the herbal garden, the prospectus notes; it adds that anyone chosen for an industrial project in the second year pays their own accommodation and daily costs.
D.Pharm and Ph.D. The diploma needs a minimum of 35% marks in aggregate in HSSC science, with physics, chemistry and biology or mathematics, and merit rests on the total in those subjects. Ph.D. admission is run by Goa University during April and August, according to the college's courses page.
Cutoff
No closing rank or closing percentile for this college is published for B.Pharm. The Directorate's 2026 degree admission lists carry eligibility and merit lists only, and its final merit list for NEET-based courses and B.Pharm calls applicants to choose seats by merit number without recording where Goa College of Pharmacy's allotments stopped.
The M.Pharm picture is clearer, and it runs against the idea that every government seat is fought over. The college's second-round allotment sheet filled the general seats in Quality Assurance and Pharmacology, but seated nobody in Pharmacognosy or Pharmaceutical Chemistry. After the third round, Pharmaceutical Chemistry still had not filled a seat and Pharmacognosy had taken a single candidate on a de-reserved open seat, with a spot round still to be announced. The sheets list merit positions, not GPAT scores, so they cannot be turned into a qualifying score.
Placements
The college's ranking returns carry its only placement counts and salaries, and in the latest year far more B.Pharm graduates went on to further study than into jobs.
| B.Pharm graduating year | Graduated on time | Placed | Median salary (Rs) | Went to higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022-23 | 89 | 55 | 2,04,000 | 34 |
| 2023-24 | 74 | 38 | 1,68,000 | 36 |
| 2024-25 | 77 | 17 | 1,98,000 | 42 |
| M.Pharm graduating year | Graduated on time | Placed | Median salary (Rs) | Went to higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2022-23 | 54 | 51 | 2,20,000 | 3 |
| 2023-24 | 41 | 39 | 2,20,000 | 2 |
| 2024-25 | 36 | 29 | 3,06,000 | 1 |
Treat the placed column with care. The copy of the college's 2025 return that it still hosts on its own site gives 18 placed B.Pharm graduates for 2022-23 and 29 for 2023-24, and 31 and 35 placed M.Pharm graduates for those years, while the ranking body's published copy of that return carries 55 and 38 for the B.Pharm years and 51 and 39 for the M.Pharm years, the figures the 2026 return repeats above.
The named placement sheets show where those jobs are. For the B.Pharm class of 2021-22, on-campus offers came from Cipla Goa, Pfizer Goa, Sanofi Goa, Sigma Labs Goa and Aquity Solutions, while the most frequent entry on the sheet is an M.Pharm at the college itself. The 2020-21 sheet adds Unichem Goa and TCS Goa to Pfizer and Cipla, alongside retail pharmacies and insurers found off campus.
Seat Matrix
Every B.Pharm seat here belongs to the state quota, with no All India quota and no management quota.
| B.Pharm category, 2026-27 | Seats |
|---|---|
| General, open | 49 plus 03 |
| General, PwD | 03 |
| General, freedom fighter | 01 |
| General, Goan native | 01 |
| EWS | 10 |
| OBC, open | 26 |
| OBC, PwD | 01 |
| ST, open | 11 |
| ST, PwD | 01 |
| SC | 02 |
| NRI | 01 |
| Ex-servicemen | 01 |
| Tuition fee waiver, supernumerary | 05 |
The M.Pharm matrix is weighted heavily towards students who took their B.Pharm under Goa University.
| M.Pharm group | Quality Assurance | Pharmacology | Pharmacognosy | Pharmaceutical Chemistry |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| I(a) General, Goa University B.Pharm | 06 | 06 | 05 | 06 |
| I(b) PwD from Goa | 01 | Nil | 01 | 01 |
| I(c) Sponsored | Nil | 01 | 01 | Nil |
| I(d) EWS | 02 | 02 | 02 | 02 |
| II SC or ST of Goa | 02 | 02 | 02 | 02 |
| II OBC of Goa | 04 | 04 | 04 | 04 |
| III Open, any university | 02 | 02 | 02 | 02 |
| Total | 17 | 17 | 17 | 17 |
A graduate from outside Goa competes first for the two Group III seats in each branch. Unclaimed seats in Groups II and III move to Group I, and under the prospectus any seat still vacant after that is offered to eligible B.Pharm graduates from outside the state, which is why the Pharmacognosy and Pharmaceutical Chemistry seats still vacant after the third round matter to them.
Rankings
Goa College of Pharmacy placed 89th in the 2025 NIRF pharmacy ranking with a score of 42.70, and it is the only Goa institution in that table. The principal's message on the college's home page still describes it as one of the top 25 pharmacy colleges in India, although its best placing in the editions below is 30th, in 2017.
| NIRF edition | Pharmacy rank | Overall score |
|---|---|---|
| 2017 | 30 | 40.01 |
| 2018 | 37 | 41.96 |
| 2019 | 43 | 43.07 |
| 2020 | 47 | 42.73 |
| 2021 | 56 | 42.13 |
| 2022 | 55 | 44.72 |
| 2023 | 66 | 44.23 |
| 2024 | 93 | 40.69 |
| 2025 | 89 | 42.70 |
The 2025 score of 42.70 is higher than the 40.01 that earned 30th place in 2017, so the slide reflects other colleges scoring more rather than this one scoring less. The parameter scores show where the marks go missing, and research is the gap.
| NIRF pharmacy parameter | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Teaching, learning and resources | 60.12 | 62.66 |
| Research and professional practice | 10.42 | 11.89 |
| Graduation outcomes | 54.69 | 55.65 |
| Outreach and inclusivity | 52.48 | 52.67 |
| Perception | 33.44 | 39.34 |
As recently as 2019 the research score was 0.20, so the current figure is an improvement, but it remains far below every other parameter.
Departments
Five departments teach across the diploma, degree and master's programmes, and their own pages name the heads.
| Department | Head, per the department page | Specialist equipment the page names |
|---|---|---|
| Pharmaceutical Chemistry | Dr. Sanjay Pai PN | Organic analysis, ligand synthesis and micro-component analysis labs |
| Pharmaceutics | Dr. Rupesh K. Shirodkar | Spray drier, 10 station tablet punching machine, rota-evaporator |
| Pharmacognosy | Dr. Arun B. Joshi | Flash chromatography and HPTLC |
| Pharmacology | Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao, also principal | Rotarod, radial arm maze, water maze, animal house |
| Pharmaceutical Analysis | Dr. Anand A Mahajan, listed as professor | Not listed on the page |
Pharmaceutics names transdermal delivery and nanotechnology as its thrust areas and counts quality assurance and regulatory affairs among its subjects. Its page is out of step with itself: the faculty list names Dr. Shirodkar as head while the paragraph above it still names Dr. Prashant Bhide, who does not appear in the college's 2026 ranking faculty list.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The college reports 19 laboratories across its five departments, plus an air-conditioned central instrumentation facility that outside industry and academic users can also hire. Its instrument list includes an Agilent HPLC with PDA detector, a Thermo Scientific HPLC and gas chromatograph, a Bruker FT-IR, a Shimadzu spectrofluorimeter and a photostability chamber.
The animal house, run by the pharmacology department, has been recognised by CPCSEA since 2002 under registration No. 611/02/c/CPCSEA and keeps mice and rats for undergraduate practicals and postgraduate projects. The medicinal plant garden holds more than 70 medicinal plants, laid out in four sections by the use of the drug each plant yields. The library subscribes to Elsevier, ScienceDirect and Bentham journals and provides SciFinder access.
Students can buy a pass for the college bus, according to the M.Pharm prospectus. For students with disabilities, the college's ranking return reports lifts or ramps and adapted toilets in more than 80% of the buildings.
Hostel
The hostels are not on the teaching premises. Separate boys' and girls' hostels stand at Altinho, near the Doordarshan complex and within a kilometre of the college, and the boys' hostel has 27 rooms shared by three students each, with a common washroom with hot water, a central dining facility, a reading room, guest rooms and a warden's residence. The girls' hostel is described with the same arrangements, but the college gives no room count for it.
For master's students the prospectus sets the hostel charge at Rs 4,000 rent and Rs 3,000 maintenance per semester with a refundable Rs 1,000 deposit, and the Goa Professional College Hostel Rules require residents to be back in the hostel campus by 9.30 p.m. D.Pharm residents are charged lower rates under the Directorate's diploma prospectus: hostel term fees of 2600 per semester, a refundable deposit of 500 and maintenance of 2200 per term. The hostel rules in the M.Pharm prospectus make joining the hostel mess compulsory, but neither document states the mess charge.
Faculty
The college's 2026 ranking return names 41 teachers, 32 of them regular and the rest visiting. The principal, Dr. Gopal Krishna Rao, joined on 30-04-2012 with 420 months of experience recorded, and the longest-serving regular teacher, Dr. Madhusudan Joshi, joined on 30-10-1993.
Nine of the ten doctorates on the college's Ph.D. thesis record went to people who appear on that 2026 faculty list, including Dr. Rajashree Gude, Dr. Adison Fernandes, Dr. Nutan Naik, Dr. Vaibhav Potdar and Dr. Shailaja Mallya. The doctoral programme currently has 11 full-time and 2 part-time scholars.
Research funding has grown from a low base. The same return records 7 sponsored projects bringing in 14644200 in 2024-25, against 2 projects and 315000 in 2022-23, with consultancy earnings of 25000 in the latest year.
Notable Alumni
Goa College of Pharmacy's website keeps no roll of distinguished graduates. The principal's message says its graduates include industrialists, entrepreneurs and heads of organisations without naming any, and the alumni page lists only the committee of its alumni association, registered in 2012 under No. 919/Goa/2012, with Mr. Raj Vaidya as president. The site does publish year-wise toppers for each programme, with the D.Pharm list running back to 1967.
News & Articles
Admission notices are posted on the college's home page under What's New, and the 2026 cycle there has run from the M.Pharm prospectus through the second round on 31 July 2026 to the third round on 3 August, with the date of a spot round still to be announced. The same menus carry the academic calendar, GPAT result lists by year and back issues of PharmaEchoes. B.Pharm and D.Pharm rounds are announced separately on the Directorate of Technical Education's site, not the college's.
College Compare
Goa College of Pharmacy is the only government college among the three offering B.Pharm through the Directorate's 2026-27 counselling, and unlike PES's college at Farmagudi it keeps no management quota.
| B.Pharm college in Goa | Seats in the 2026-27 matrix | Management quota | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goa College of Pharmacy, Panaji | 100 | None | Rs 55,000 at full rate for tuition, institutional and development fees |
| PES's Rajaram and Tarabai Bandekar College of Pharmacy, Farmagudi | 100 | 25 | Set by the State Level Fee Structure Committee |
| Padmini College of Pharmacy, Sankhali | 60 | None listed | Set by the State Level Fee Structure Committee |
The prospectus does not print the private colleges' fees, so a student comparing cost has to wait for the committee's notification. For the diploma there is no comparison to make inside the Directorate's process: pharmacy appears only once in its 2026-27 diploma seat table, against this college.
Contact & Location
The college's contact page, its 2026-27 M.Pharm prospectus and the Directorate's institute listing all give 18th June Road, Panaji. The Bambolim address on the college's courses page belongs to Goa University, which handles Ph.D. admissions.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
The B.Pharm is accredited by the National Board of Accreditation. NBA's list shows the programme accredited up to 30-06-2026, then further accredited for 1st July 2026 to 31st December 2026 and from 1st January 2027 to 31st December 2029.
The college states that it is approved by the Pharmacy Council of India and AICTE and affiliated to Goa University, on its history page. Neither its home page nor its history page mentions a NAAC grade. The animal house's CPCSEA registration, covered under facilities, is the other external recognition it publishes.
Aid
Scholarships
For most Goan students the largest saving is the state's tuition concession, not a scholarship. The Directorate's degree prospectus gives SC, ST and OBC students in government colleges a 50% tuition concession, general-category students a 50% concession if both parents' income is under Rs. 3,00,000 per annum, and freedom fighter, PwD and ex-servicemen seats a 30% concession, provided the student has lived in Goa for 10 years; students from other states get no concession.
Other routes are narrower:
- AICTE tuition fee waiver: 5 supernumerary B.Pharm seats for general-merit candidates whose parents earn under Rs. 8,00,000/-, per the degree prospectus.
- GPAT scholarship for M.Pharm: the undertaking in the M.Pharm prospectus refers to the enhanced rate of Rs. 12,400/- p. m. and bars recipients from taking employment during it.
- UGC scholarship: the same prospectus points SC, ST, OBC and PwD master's students to Goa University for the forms, due by February.
Full reimbursement is still the exception. Of the college's undergraduates, the 2026 return records 33 receiving full tuition reimbursement from state and central funds and 16 from private bodies, while 110 were not receiving full reimbursement.
