Indian Institute Of Management Bodh Gaya
IIM Bodh Gaya is the 31st-ranked management school in the country on the NIRF 2025 management list, and its two-year MBA is priced at Rs 17,96,000 for the 2026-28 batch on the institute's own fee sheet. It is one of the youngest IIMs, opened in 2015 under the mentorship of IIM Calcutta, and it now selects its MBA intake through a single interview process it runs jointly with IIM Jammu and IIM Sirmaur. Every fee line, cut-off, placement number and ranking parameter below is taken from IIM Bodh Gaya's own filings or the Ministry of Education's tables, so each can be traced back to its source.
Overview
IIM Bodh Gaya sits in Bodh Gaya, the Bihar town best known as a Buddhist pilgrimage centre, and the institute has built its public identity around that setting, pairing conventional management training with a "mindful leadership" theme it repeats across its own materials. It began life in 2015 as IIM Bihar before taking the name of its host town, its founding record shows, and its first cohort of 140 students started that year while the school operated out of a temporary campus at Magadh University.
Two facts shape how an applicant should read it. First, it is genuinely young: even its earliest MBA graduates are only a few years into their careers, so the alumni depth that the founding IIMs sell is still forming here. Second, its leadership has a place in the system's history, since Dr. Vinita S. Sahay, appointed director in 2018, was recorded as only the second woman in the country to head an IIM. Since the Indian Institutes of Management Act of 2017 folded it into the statutory IIM system, the qualification it confers is a full MBA degree rather than the post-graduate diploma the older IIMs long issued.
Courses & Fees
The MBA is not the only degree here, but it is the one the CAT admits to and the placement report measures. Alongside the flagship two-year MBA, IIM Bodh Gaya runs two specialised two-year MBAs, one in Digital Business and AI and one in Hospital and Healthcare Management, plus a five-year Integrated Programme in Management that a candidate can enter straight after school through JIPMAT, and doctoral and executive tracks, all listed on its admissions page.
| Programme | Entrance route |
|---|---|
| MBA (two-year, residential) | CAT |
| MBA in Digital Business and AI | CAT |
| MBA in Hospital and Healthcare Management | CAT |
| Integrated Programme in Management (five-year) | JIPMAT |
| Ph.D. and Executive Ph.D. in Management | Institute process |
For the flagship MBA the total programme charge is Rs 17,96,000 across the two years, split as Rs 8,98,000 in each year, per the official 2026-28 fee structure. That figure is tuition plus hostel and academic charges; a refundable caution deposit and a mess-and-laundry deposit are collected on top of it and returned at the end of the programme.
| Fee head | Amount |
|---|---|
| Tuition fee | Rs 1,60,000 per term |
| Hostel rent | Rs 41,000 per term |
| Academic charges | Rs 80,000 per term |
| Course total (two years) | Rs 17,96,000 |
| Caution deposit (refundable) | Rs 25,000 |
Admissions
Admission to the MBA is built on the CAT, with the personal interview run through a shared arrangement rather than in-house. Who may apply is set by the 2026-28 admission policy: any graduate who has cleared the 50% mark, with a five-point relaxation to 45% for candidates in the SC, ST and PwD categories. CAT scores then screen applicants against sectional and overall percentile cut-offs, and those who clear them are called to the interview.
The interview is where IIM Bodh Gaya differs from most IIMs. It, IIM Jammu and IIM Sirmaur have pooled their selection into one Common Admission Process, CAP 2026, running the personal interview offline together and using its outcome to build each institute's merit list, as the same policy sets out. The final ranking then weights the CAT scaled score at half, with the interview and a profile score making up the rest.
| Final merit component | Weight |
|---|---|
| CAT 2025 score | 50% |
| Personal interview (CAP) | 25% |
| Academic profile | 15% |
| Work experience | 10% |
Two things follow from that formula. The interview and profile together outweigh no single component but leave the CAT decisive, and the profile marks reward specific things, with the academic score awarded for crossing 60% in graduation and 70% in the school boards, and the work-experience score peaking for candidates with two to four years behind them rather than the longest tenure.
Cutoff
IIM Bodh Gaya publishes two different percentile bars, and confusing them is easy. The admission policy carries a reference screen, set before results, that asks a general-category applicant for a 95 overall percentile and 75 in each section, in its own table. The bar that was actually applied for the 2026-28 cycle is lower, and it lives in a separate document.
For the flagship MBA under the gender-neutral pool, the finalised CAP 2026 cut-off invited a general-category candidate at a 90 overall percentile with 65 in each section, with the reserved-category thresholds below that.
| Category | VARC | DILR | QA | Overall |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General | 65 | 65 | 65 | 90 |
| EWS | 50 | 50 | 50 | 75 |
| NC-OBC | 45 | 45 | 45 | 75 |
| SC | 40 | 40 | 40 | 60 |
| ST | 25 | 30 | 30 | 38 |
The two specialised MBAs opened a little lower still. The same CAP 2026 cut-off sheet set the general gender-neutral bar at an 88 overall percentile for the Digital Business and AI stream and 75 overall for Hospital and Healthcare Management. Read any of these as the threshold to reach the interview, not the score that secures a seat, because the merit list is settled only after the CAP interview.
Placements
The most recent read on outcomes is IIM Bodh Gaya's final placement report for the 2023-25 batch, covering all three full-time programmes together. Across them the institute recorded its largest cohort, 462 students, with 395 placed against 431 who sought placement; the flagship MBA accounted for 250 of those placements against 274 participants. The institute noted at the time that an audited version of the report was still to follow.
| MBA salary metric (2023-25) | Value |
|---|---|
| Highest package | Rs 22 lakh |
| Average package | Rs 13 lakh |
| Median package | Rs 12 lakh |
| Top 25% average | Rs 18 lakh |
| Top 50% average | Rs 15.6 lakh |
The gap between the Rs 22 lakh top package and the Rs 12 lakh median is the number worth holding onto: the headline figure comes from the very top of the class, while a typical graduate lands closer to the median. On sector mix the same report puts banking and financial services at the front with 42.8% of MBA offers, followed by IT and analytics, and more than 190 companies took part in the season.
Seat Matrix
IIM Bodh Gaya does not print a single category-by-category MBA seat grid in its public policy, but the shape of the intake is documented. Its 2026-28 admission policy applies the Government of India reservation rules for SC, ST, NC-OBC, EWS and PwD candidates, keeps 70% of seats gender-neutral, and adds supernumerary places for women where the gender-neutral pool falls short, a provision it frames as a way to improve the campus gender ratio without displacing merit.
For the concrete scale of a recent intake, the 2023-25 placement report is the firmest figure: that year the flagship MBA enrolled 285 students and the Digital Business stream another 95, within a three-programme total of 462. The exact sanctioned strength changes cycle to cycle, so the current count is best read off the admission policy rather than treated as fixed, and the category split is governed by the reservation rules the same policy names.
Rankings
IIM Bodh Gaya's line on the NIRF 2025 management ranking reads 59.65 overall, placing it 31st in the country. For an institute that only enrolled its first class in 2015, a place inside the top 35 of a national management list is a genuine result, even if the score still sits well below the founding IIMs that anchor the top of the same table.
| NIRF 2025 parameter | Score out of 100 |
|---|---|
| Overall | 59.65 |
| Teaching, learning and resources | 81.53 |
| Research and professional practice | 28.45 |
| Graduation outcomes | 86.09 |
| Outreach and inclusivity | 72.36 |
| Perception | 22.00 |
Break the overall score into its parts and the institute's age is written plainly across it. Graduation outcomes at 86.09 and teaching resources at 81.53 are strong, the parameters a well-run school controls directly, while research at 28.45 and perception at 22.00 are the two that drag, and the perception figure in particular is low even by the standard of the 2015-era IIMs. Those are exactly the measures that reward a long publication record and an established brand, which a school of this age has had the fewest years to earn.
Departments
Facilities & Infrastructure
The campus is the piece of infrastructure IIM Bodh Gaya has changed most. After years in the borrowed Magadh University premises, it moved to a permanent home of roughly 119 acres in Bodh Gaya, designed by CP Kukreja Architects, its campus record notes. What the fee buys, then, is a place on a purpose-built residential campus in a small Bihar town rather than a leased block in a metro, with the lower living costs and the quieter setting that trade-off implies.
Beyond the classrooms the institute runs INSPIRE, its startup incubation centre, which it credits with backing early ventures from its own students, and it has built an international footprint through student-exchange tie-ups with business schools across several countries including France, South Korea and Greece, both documented in its profile. For a candidate weighing the location, the exchange links are one way the school offsets the pull of a bigger-city posting.
Hostel
Faculty
IIM Bodh Gaya presents its teaching staff as individual faculty profiles grouped by subject area on its own faculty listing, the standard arrangement at an IIM, where the MBA's core courses and electives are taught out of those areas rather than fixed departments. That structure means the depth a candidate actually cares about sits at the level of a subject group, not a single institute-wide headcount.
Rather than repeat a faculty number lifted from a listing site, which the institute does not stand behind, the honest read is to look at the area a prospective student wants to specialise in and weigh its own roster of professors and their published work. That is the level at which teaching strength in a particular field can be judged.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
The credential that matters most here is statutory rather than a letter grade. IIM Bodh Gaya is named in the schedule to the Indian Institutes of Management Act of 2017, the law that recognises the IIMs as institutions of national importance and lets each of them confer its own MBA, as its institutional record sets out. That standing is shared by every IIM and is the right lens for judging it.
Because it is an IIM rather than an affiliated college or a conventional university, it is not graded on the NAAC or NBA scales that apply to those, so the absence of a NAAC grade here is not a gap in its credentials but a category difference. An applicant looking for a quality mark should read the IIM Act status and the NIRF ranking together, rather than looking for an accreditation badge that this class of institution is not assessed on.
Aid
Scholarships
We could not find a fixed, published merit-scholarship schedule on IIM Bodh Gaya's public MBA pages, so this section does not carry an award table it cannot source. The institute routes fee support through the financial-aid framework it lists under the fees section of its own MBA programme page, which is where any need-based concession or instalment arrangement for a given batch is set out.
An admitted candidate's more dependable route to funding is a bank education loan, which every IIM offer letter is designed to be financed through, and the central and state need-based support that applies to management students generally. For the current figures, the fees-and-financing links on the institute's own admissions material are the place to confirm what is on offer for the batch you are joining.

Student Reviews
No rating appears here because IIM Bodh Gaya runs no verified student-review score of its own, and the star figures floating around on coaching and listing sites are unaudited and carry no backing from the institute. Teaching quality, hostel life and the placement experience are all real things a candidate should weigh, but a single number attached to them on a third-party site is not evidence the school itself supports.
A prospective student learns far more by speaking to people in the current cohort or to graduates of the 2023-25 batch, who can describe residential life in a small Bihar town, the CAP interview and their own placement first-hand, than by trusting a figure some aggregator assigned.

Photographs of the Bodh Gaya campus sit on the institute's own website, but none of them carry a licence that permits republication, so nothing is copied in here rather than run a borrowed or misattributed picture. This space fills only once IIM Bodh Gaya, or a reader with a properly licensed shot of the Bihar campus, puts imagery out under terms that allow reuse.
