Birla Institute Of Management Technology

Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh Official site Updated
NIRF Management

Birla Institute of Management Technology prices its two-year PGDM at Rs 14,00,000 for the 2027-29 batch, then makes living on campus for both of those years a condition of admission and bills the room and the mess on top. That is the first thing to settle about the cost here. The second is that an entrance percentile is worth 35% of the score BIMTECH actually selects on, so a strong CAT result buys a third of the decision and no more. The third is the figure the institute filed with the government's ranking framework rather than printed on a poster: a median salary of Rs 10,50,000 for the batch that graduated in 2023-24.

Overview

BIMTECH is a standalone business school at Plot No. 5, Knowledge Park II, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh 201306, and no university stands behind what it awards. Its four full-time postgraduate programmes are AICTE approved and NBA accredited diplomas conferred in the institute's own name, with the Association of Indian Universities supplying the equivalence to an MBA that a degree would have carried by itself. Its flagship PGDM was started in 1994 and still carries the largest share of the intake.

The Birla connection is real but easy to misread, and the institute's own history page is where to check it. That page lists BIMTECH under the educational institutions associated with Late Basant Kumar Birla, alongside Birla Vidya Niketan in New Delhi and the schools of the Birla Sanskriti Trust, while Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani sits in a separate block on that page, the one for bodies he served as governor or trustee. Several Indian institutions carry the Birla name, they award different things, and this one is the Greater Noida management school.

Geography does more work here than the address suggests. In the NIRF 2025 management ranking, BIMTECH is the only institution in the hundred-strong table with a Greater Noida address, and one of twelve from Uttar Pradesh. The campus itself is described by the institute as a composite, fully air-conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled residential site in the National Capital Region, which matters more than a marketing line: nobody studies here as a day scholar.

Courses & Fees

Four two-year full-time diplomas make up the residential teaching, and they cost exactly the same. The general PGDM sits alongside three specialised versions in international business, insurance business management and retail management, and the tuition for the full course is Rs 14,00,000 whichever one you take, so the specialisation decision carries no price tag.

Programme, 2027-29Scores acceptedTuition for the full course (Rs)
PGDMCAT 2026, XAT 2027, GMAT, CMAT 202714,00,000
PGDM (International Business)CAT 2026, XAT 2027, GMAT, CMAT 202714,00,000
PGDM (Insurance Business Management)CAT 2026, XAT 2027, GMAT, CMAT 2027, MAT 2026-2714,00,000
PGDM (Retail Management)CAT 2026, XAT 2027, GMAT, CMAT 2027, MAT 2026-2714,00,000

The flagship dwarfs the other three. Its admissions page gives the core PGDM 300 approved places plus 45 supernumerary ones, and the three specialised diplomas divide a much smaller remainder between them. The centre of gravity here is the core PGDM, and a specialised cohort is a small room inside a much larger school.

That tuition figure is not the bill, and BIMTECH says so in the same breath it quotes the number. Because the programmes are residential and the stay is not optional, the accommodation lines below apply to every admitted student rather than to the ones who choose to move in.

Charge beyond tuitionAmount (Rs)
Lodging, hostel rent for two years3,27,600
Boarding, mess charges for two years1,68,000
Medical insurance, each year5,000
Additional certification fee, one time20,000
Additional e-database fee, one time10,000
Alumni membership fee, one time5,000
General security, refundable, one time20,000
Library security, refundable, one time15,000

What the tuition buys is a trimester system with very little slack in it. The PGDM runs across six trimesters with more than 1,000 hours of contact teaching, a Summer Internship Project between the two years, non-teaching credit courses and skill courses running alongside the core, and a dissertation carried through the fifth and sixth trimesters. A couple of the experiential slots are unusual enough to name: Rural Immersion in the fifth trimester and an Alumni Mentorship Program that appears twice on the credit list, in the third trimester and again in the fifth. The final term is thin by design, holding one core course, Ethics as a Strategy for Leaders, one open elective and two electives, which is when the placement season is taking most of the batch's attention.

Three further tracks sit outside that residential block and outside every figure on this page. BIMTECH's programme menu lists a Fellow Program and an Executive Fellow Program, both carrying equivalence to a PhD, alongside a PGDM Online carrying equivalence to an MBA. None of the three is a two-year residential diploma, and the fee, the seat count and the placement record set out here describe the campus programmes only.

Admissions

The accepted-test list is not the same for every programme, and the difference is buried in a table rather than announced. For the flagship PGDM and the international business diploma, BIMTECH reads CAT 2026, XAT 2027, GMAT or CMAT 2027; the insurance and retail diplomas add MAT 2026-27 to that list. The disclaimer at the top of the same page lists MAT among the tests for all BIMTECH admissions, so an MAT-only candidate should confirm with the admission office which programmes are genuinely open before paying to apply.

Eligibility is a graduation with a minimum of 50% marks on a 10+2+3 pattern. Final-year students may apply, and if they do the offer stays provisional until results arrive: BIMTECH requires the graduation result showing 50% in aggregate on or before 31 October 2027, and says the provisional admission is cancelled automatically if it does not.

Selection has a second stage that catches people out. Shortlisting is on the test score and the past academic record; those who clear it face an extempore and a personal interview, and an extempore is a solo speaking exercise on a topic handed to you on the spot, not the group discussion most PGDM aspirants rehearse. The process runs online and offline, with offline venues at the Greater Noida campus, Bangalore, Cochin, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata and Pune.

Put three administrative details in a calendar before applying. The application fee is Rs 2250 and is not refundable. The institute states plainly that there is no management quota and that admissions are strictly on merit, which is unusual to see written down. And the timetable is fixed: the final selection list is declared in March 2027 and the session is expected to start in June or July 2027, with no extension entertained on the deadline for the first fee instalment.

Cutoff

BIMTECH publishes no percentile cutoff for any of its four diplomas, and looking for one is the wrong search. What it publishes instead is the full scoring sheet its admission committee marks against, and it runs two different versions of that sheet depending on which category of seat you are competing for.

Selection parameterMerit seats (%)Supernumerary seats (%)
Extempore515
Personal interview2035
CAT, XAT, GMAT, CMAT or MAT percentile35Not applicable
Past academic performance across Class X, Class XII and the degree1014
Additional weightage for a degree in engineering1013
Work experience1013
Home region other than Uttar Pradesh and NCR55
Female candidates55

Read the two columns against each other and the supernumerary route turns out to be a different admission entirely. Both candidates sit the same extempore and the same interview, but on a merit seat that pair carries 25% of the composite and the entrance percentile outweighs either exercise on its own, while on a supernumerary seat the pair carries 50% and no entrance score is read at all. The hour in front of the panel is therefore worth twice as much to one of them as to the other, and for the second it is most of the decision.

Inside the merit column, the softer weights are worth more than they look. An engineering graduate with a year of qualifying work experience, applying from a home region outside Uttar Pradesh and the NCR, scores on three rows before the percentile or the interview is counted, at 10% for the degree, 10% for the experience and 5% for the region, and a female candidate in that position scores on a fourth. BIMTECH also gives extra credit inside the academic component to applicants who graduated from an institution in the preceding year's NIRF top 100, so where you did your bachelor's is worth marks here rather than being a tiebreaker.

The work-experience rule has conditions most schools leave vague. To count, the experience should ideally be an executive or supervisory role held for at least a year as on 31 January 2027, in a registered company with a turnover of Rs 10 crores or more in 2025-26, with the institute reserving the right to relax that for a candidate from a start-up. A year at a small firm is not automatically the same thing as a year on this sheet.

Placements

The auditable placement record for BIMTECH is the return it files with the National Institutional Ranking Framework, because that document counts graduates and reports a median rather than an average, and it runs three years deep.

Batch graduating inGraduated in stipulated timePlacedMedian salary (Rs)
2021-223693678,50,000
2022-2336536511,00,000
2023-2445445410,50,000

The two right-hand columns move in different directions, and both are worth reading. Placement of on-time graduates is effectively complete in all three years, with 367 of 369, then 365 of 365, then 454 of 454 taking a job, and the last of those years placed a batch far larger than the first. The median did not rise with it. It jumped from Rs 8,50,000 to Rs 11,00,000 and then fell to Rs 10,50,000 in the year the graduating group grew. The intake side of the same filing shows where that growth came from: BIMTECH admitted 369, then 366, then 454 first-year students across the three matching cycles, so the batch that pushed the median down is also the first one to come close to filling the sanctioned strength.

Nobody left for further study. The same filing records zero students selected for higher studies in each of the three years, so this is a batch that goes to work, and the placement record is not being flattered by graduates who stepped out of the count.

The headline BIMTECH leads with is a maximum rather than a middle. Its placements page prints a highest domestic package of INR 22 Lakh and no median beside it, and the admissions page says more than 100 companies have been visiting the campus for recruitment. Put the filed median of Rs 10,50,000 beside the tuition of Rs 14,00,000, before lodging and mess are added, and a graduate's first year out does not cover the course fee. Recruiting is coordinated by the institute's Centre for Corporate Relations, and the current cycle is already open: BIMTECH dates the placement season for 2026-27 from 1st September 2026.

Seat Matrix

The four residential diplomas add to 480 approved places, and that total is confirmed twice over on the institute's own site. The scholarship schedule tots its per-programme table to 480 across the PGDM and its three variants, and the ranking return files a sanctioned PG intake of 480 for both 2023-24 and 2022-23. Nothing in the published record suggests that figure has moved.

Sitting on top of that number, and inside it, are two seat categories that behave nothing alike. The 45 supernumerary places are over and above the approved intake of 300 on the flagship PGDM alone, reserved for people of Indian origin, foreign nationals, SAARC and Gulf-quota candidates and overseas citizens of India, and admitted on merit among themselves. Inside the intake, BIMTECH sets aside 5% of seats in all courses for its Economically and Socially Challenged Students category and fills the other 95% from the general category, then adds the line that decides how much that reservation is worth: unfilled ESCS seats are opened to the general category.

Who actually fills the classrooms is a separate question, and the ranking return answers it for the whole two-year roll.

Who is on the rollCount
Total students, all years of the two-year programmes941
Men561
Women380
From within Uttar Pradesh280
From other states652
From outside India9
Socially challenged, being SC, ST and OBC156
Economically backward62

Students drawn from outside Uttar Pradesh outnumber those from within it by a wide margin, which settles one question about the compulsory hostel: a mandatory room is a much smaller imposition on a roll where most of the class had to move house regardless. At the far end of the same column sit the nine students from outside India, and the supernumerary category is the route built to admit them.

Rankings

One government table carries BIMTECH's national standing. The NIRF 2025 management ranking places it at rank 61 on an overall score of 52.09, under institute code IR-M-S-354, and the institute's own accreditation page records that it stood at 64 in 2024, so it has climbed three places. Behind that single number the five things NIRF measures spread across almost the whole scale, from the high seventies to single figures.

NIRF 2025 management parameterBIMTECH score
Teaching, Learning and Resources70.85
Research and Professional Practice24.23
Graduation Outcomes79.83
Outreach and Inclusivity68.21
Perception7.73

Graduation outcomes at 79.83 are the composite's engine, and they agree with the placement filing rather than contradicting it. Outreach and inclusivity at 68.21 is the quieter strength, and the state split in the seat matrix is part of why. What holds the total down is a research score of 24.23 and a perception score of 7.73. Perception is collected by polling academics, employers and the public, so a single-digit result on it is a statement about how widely the name travels, not about what happens in the classroom. For an applicant that spread is the practical point: BIMTECH graduates and places its batch at a level the framework scores highly, while the name itself is recognised far less widely than that record would suggest.

Departments

There are no departments at BIMTECH in the sense a university uses the word. Teaching is organised into elective areas, and the PGDM's elective catalogue is the honest map of them: Marketing and Retail, FIRM covering finance and insurance risk management, OB and HR, ODS covering operations and decision sciences, IT, Economics and International Business, Communication, and Strategy. Those benches carry the teaching for every diploma, and a faculty member belongs to an area rather than to a programme.

The consequence for a student is that the specialised diplomas are not taught by separate faculties. A candidate weighing PGDM (Insurance Business Management) against the general PGDM is choosing a different elective load out of the same FIRM bench, not a different school inside the school. The first two trimesters are common core for everyone, running from Design Thinking and Financial Accounting through to Operations Management and People Management at Work, and the divergence starts in the third.

Facilities & Infrastructure

The campus is a single site described by the institute as composite, fully air-conditioned and Wi-Fi enabled, and it publishes no floor area, classroom count or seat-by-seat inventory, so none appears here. What BIMTECH does document is the service layer, which is the more useful half for anyone about to live on the site for two years.

The library operates as the Knowledge Centre, combining print and digital resources, and the ranking return puts real money against it: Rs 17,26,971 of capital expenditure on books, journals and e-resources in 2023-24, up from the previous two years. Medical cover is the part most residential campuses skimp on and this one does not: the health centre runs round-the-clock medical facilities with a 24/7 ambulance and on-call physicians, on an emergency number of +91-9355024501. Accessibility is filed rather than claimed, with lifts or ramps in more than 80% of buildings.

Student life is run through bodies the institute calls conduits and clubs, and their names tell you what the batch actually does with its evenings. Nine conduits cover culture, sports, food, ValMor, media, international affairs, alumni interface, CSR and medical support, and fifteen clubs run from 22 Yards and ECOchamber to FinWiz, Retailia and OpScan. Sport is organised through the Sports Conduit, with outdoor grounds for cricket, football, basketball and athletics and indoor space for badminton and table tennis. A Union Bank of India ATM sits near the main gate, which is a small thing until you are on a campus on the edge of Greater Noida at ten at night.

Mental health support is signposted rather than staffed in-house. The facilities page links students to the government's Manodarpan initiative, the Tele MANAS service, the National Suicide Prevention Strategy and the counselling platform Your DOST, and a 24x7 women's helpline on 0120-6843000 runs for students, faculty and non-teaching staff.

Hostel

Residence is a rule at BIMTECH, not an option, and the wording leaves no room to negotiate. The institute states that all its programmes are compulsorily residential, that staying in the hostel for the complete 2 years is mandatory, and that this will not be changed under any circumstances. Anyone budgeting on the tuition figure alone is budgeting for a course they cannot take.

Accommodation chargeAmount (Rs)
Lodging, hostel rent for two years3,27,600
Boarding, mess charges for two years1,68,000

Room type is allotted rather than chosen. BIMTECH runs both on-campus and off-campus hostels with similar facilities, gives rooms on a single or twin-sharing basis depending on the number and composition of students admitted, and places girl students in the hostel located inside the campus. That phrasing has consequences. A student cannot count on a single room, because occupancy is decided at the institute's discretion after the batch is known. And a male student cannot count on an on-campus address, because the off-campus hostel exists for a reason.

Faculty

BIMTECH does not print a faculty headcount on its faculty page, but it filed one with the ranking framework: the NIRF 2025 return records 91 faculty members entered. That is the checkable number for a roll of 941 students, and it is the one to work from rather than any figure on a brochure.

Where those academics spend their time is visible in the same document, and the answer is executive education rather than research. In 2023-24 BIMTECH ran 7 management development programmes for 1,138 participants and earned Rs 16,77,23,263 from them, excluding lodging and boarding. In the same year it received Rs 64,08,476 across 4 sponsored research projects and Rs 59,53,500 across 4 consultancy projects. Corporate teaching brings in an order of magnitude more than sponsored research does, and the research and professional practice score of 24.23 in the ranking table is the visible consequence of where that faculty effort goes.

The doctoral pipeline is small and part-time heavy: 13 full-time and 19 part-time doctoral students on the same return, a research culture built around working scholars rather than a funded laboratory. With one faculty body carrying the diploma teaching and the corporate programmes together, a student who came here hoping for close research supervision is competing for the scarcer half of a professor's year.

Notable Alumni

Search the BIMTECH site for a graduate by name and you will not find one. The alumni pages are built around chapters, portals and a relations committee, and at no point do they identify an individual who went on to something worth citing. No names appear here either, rather than a roll the institute has never confirmed.

The size of the network is published in two places on the same site, and the two figures do not agree. The alumni page puts the network at 8000+ individuals worldwide and the admissions page repeats 8,000+ alumni, while the placements page raises it to 10000 plus. Two of the three pages agree on the lower count, and the one that inflates it is the page written for recruiters. The figure the alumni office itself publishes is the one to plan on.

What is documented is how the network is put to work, and it is built into the credit structure rather than left to a LinkedIn group. The Alumni Mentorship Program appears as an experiential learning course in both the third and fifth trimesters of the PGDM, and the institute maintains twelve alumni chapters, including international ones in Dubai and London alongside the Indian city chapters. For a batch drawn largely from outside Uttar Pradesh, those city chapters are the practical route back into a home market after graduation.

News & Articles

What a 2027-29 applicant is buying changed in three ways during 2026, all of them logged on the institute's press page. In August 2026 BIMTECH inaugurated a Centre of Excellence on AI, covered by Times Now, MBA Rendezvous and Careers360 across 20 and 21 August. A memorandum of understanding with Swiss Re India on insurance education and research was formalised at the end of March 2026 and picked up by Career 360, MBA Rendezvous, BW Education and EduGraph between 30 March and 1 April, and the press page ties it to the PGDM in insurance business management rather than to the institute in general. And in July 2026 it moved its zero-plastic campus programme forward with Bisleri International's Bottles for Change initiative.

The current cycle has two dates worth watching. The 2026-28 batch started in June 2026 and the campus is now running two full cohorts, and the institute has dated the placement season for 2026-27 from 1st September 2026, so the outcome an applicant will eventually be judged against is being decided this autumn. The competition circuit is active too: an IIM Rohtak team won BIMTECH's Hermes' Dialogue 6.0 on energy security in April 2026, with over 250 students at the national-level event.

College Compare

The comparison that actually decides applications here is local, and BIMTECH does not win it on rank. In the NIRF 2025 management table, Institute of Management Technology at Ghaziabad stands at 30, Jaipuria Institute of Management at Noida at 41, Amity University in Gautam Budh Nagar at 49 and BIMTECH at 61. Four privately run institutions on one stretch of the NCR, and three of them sit above this one. What BIMTECH holds that they do not all hold is AACSB accreditation, which its accreditation page counts among 21 Indian B-schools carrying it.

Its immediate neighbours in the table say more about what the score means than the ordinal does. Banaras Hindu University at 60 scores 52.14 and Malaviya National Institute of Technology at Jaipur at 62 scores 52.07 against BIMTECH's 52.09, and the three schools got there by opposite routes. BHU beats BIMTECH on perception by 25.12 to 7.73 and loses to it on teaching resources and on outreach; MNIT Jaipur has a research score of 60.97 against BIMTECH's 24.23 and still finishes a place lower, because its graduation outcomes are far behind. If you are choosing between them, choose on which parameter you are actually buying.

Contact & Location

The campus sits in the institutional pocket of Knowledge Park II in Greater Noida, and the district it stands in is more than an address: BIMTECH puts all disputes under the legal jurisdiction of District Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, which is where an admission grievance would have to be pursued.

One warning on that admission address is the institute's own and is worth repeating. BIMTECH states that it does not offer direct admissions and authorises no offline brokers, agents or consultants for seat filling, and that any claim of direct admission is fraudulent. Every legitimate route in runs through the online form and one of the accepted entrance tests.

Approvals & Accreditation

Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.

BIMTECH carries more marks of quality assurance than most standalone Indian B-schools, and they cover different things. The AIU line is the one that turns a diploma into something a government employer or a doctoral programme will read as a master's, and here it is broader than usual: the recognition covers the PGDM programmes and extends to the institute's doctoral programmes as well.

The NAAC row is the one to read twice. BIMTECH reports completing its first cycle of NAAC accreditation with an A+ grade, accredited on 2017, and says it is currently preparing for the second cycle with the renewal under process. A first NAAC cycle is a fixed-term award, so a grade dated 2017 is a record of an assessment rather than a current standing, and a candidate entering in 2027 should ask where the reassessment has reached instead of reading the letter grade off a banner.

The insurance diploma is the outlier in the table and the reason some applicants pick this school over a better-ranked one. On top of NBA accreditation it is recognised by the Chartered Insurance Institute in the UK, with which BIMTECH runs a dual degree programme, and by the Insurance Institute of India in Mumbai. No other diploma in the institute's catalogue carries a professional body's endorsement of its own.

Scholarships

Money at admission turns on one input, the same percentile the selection sheet weights at 35%. The Late Basant Kumar Birla Admission Merit Scholarship is open to every admitted candidate from the merit category irrespective of the programme they are admitted in, and it reads only CAT and XAT scores, so a candidate admitted on a CMAT or MAT result has no route into it.

CAT or XAT percentileScholarship
95 and aboveRs 5 lakh
90 to 94.9Rs 3 lakh
85 to 89.9Rs 2 lakh

Check when that money arrives before you plan a cash flow around it. The award is adjusted against the tuition fee for the 5th and 6th terms, in two instalments, which is the back half of the second year. It reduces what you owe at the end, not what you pay at joining.

The second scheme rewards performance once you are inside, and it is unusually strict. Under the G.D. Birla Academic Merit Scholarship, the students placing first and second on term-end results are awarded Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 for terms I to IV, against an outlay the institute states as Rs 24 lakh per annum for both batches of each course. Three conditions run for the full two years: no use of unfair means at any term-end examination, no use of the supplementary examination provision, and no serious misconduct case decided or ongoing. Break any of them and awards already granted at an earlier term are withdrawn. Payment comes only within 15 days of the sixth-term result, so this one is a graduation bonus rather than a fee reduction, and students on supernumerary seats are not eligible for it at all.

A pair of endowed awards sits outside both schemes, aimed at doctoral and top-of-class students rather than at incoming applicants. Professor Jagdish Sheth of Emory University donated to BIMTECH, which matched the gift to build a Rs 10,00,000 endowment funding an award for the best doctoral thesis and an award for female toppers, both presented at the annual convocation. The Late Sarala Birla Award grants Rs 100,000 each year for 3 consecutive years to a female doctoral student from a developing country. For everyone else the route is a loan, and the institute lists State Bank of India, Axis Bank, HDFC Credila, IDFC FIRST Bank, Bank of Baroda, Yes Bank and Kuhoo as lenders working with its admitted candidates, while stating that it plays no active role in arranging one.

Voices

Student Reviews

There is no rating for BIMTECH on this page and there is a reason for its absence. The institute runs an Internal Quality Assurance Cell and publishes an IQAC report, but nothing it puts out carries a student satisfaction score, a course evaluation result or any other number a student placed there. Ratings on commercial college portals are a different thing entirely: nobody checks that the person posting ever set foot in Knowledge Park II.

The gap is worth closing yourself, and here the compulsory hostel changes what you should be asking. Every student on this campus eats in the same mess and sleeps in the same two hostels for two straight years, so the questions that decide how the experience feels are about food, room allotment and the off-campus block, not about the classroom. None of that is documented anywhere public.

Getting to someone who can answer takes one of two routes. The twelve alumni chapters, including one in Delhi and NCR, reach graduates who have no admission target to hit, and the alumni mentorship course built into the third and fifth trimesters means current students are already talking to those people. Anyone else offering an inside line on this school should be treated with the same suspicion the institute itself recommends: BIMTECH says it authorises no agents or brokers of any kind.
