IES Institute Of Pharmacy, Bhopal
IES Institute of Pharmacy, Bhopal took its first B.Pharm and D.Pharm students in 2017, which makes its 95th place in the NIRF 2025 pharmacy ranking a quick climb for a college with so few graduating batches. It sits on the Infotech Education Society's campus at Kalkheda, on Ratibad Main Road. Two things set it apart from the private pharmacy colleges on Bhopal's state counselling list: students who joined from 2020 onwards take their degree from IES University rather than Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, and its B.Pharm seats are not offered through the state's online counselling. What a student can check is its own ranking return, which reports jobs, salaries and higher-study numbers for three graduating years.
Overview
The college began under Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) and moved to a private university created two years later. The All India Council for Technical Education issued its letter of approval for a new institute on 30-Apr-2017, naming RGPV as the affiliating body for a B.Pharm intake of 100. In the same bundle of documents, the college's letter to RGPV explains the handover: students admitted from 2017-18 to 2019-20 would stay with RGPV until they finished, and those admitted in 2020-21 would belong to IES University, which Madhya Pradesh Act No. 11 of 2019 added to the state's schedule of private universities.
The national higher education survey, AISHE, now records the college as a constituent college of IES University, a state private university, with private un-aided management. That label matters more than the word "affiliated" that the college's own home page still uses. A constituent college is part of the university that runs it, and IES University is the body that examines its students and, for every batch admitted after the handover from RGPV, the one whose degree they receive. The Pharmacy Council of India's current approved degree institutions list names the examining authority for this college as IES University, Bhopal.
Keep the name distinct from IES Institute of Technology and Management, Bhopal. AISHE lists that institute as a separate constituent college of the same university, established in 2009, and the Pharmacy Council gives it a pharmacy approval of its own, so a figure published for one says nothing about the other.
The student body is largely male and mostly from outside the state. The college's NIRF 2025 data return counts 400 students on the four-year B.Pharm, 313 of them men and 87 women, and places 349 of the 400 in the outside-state column.
Courses & Fees
The college teaches three pharmacy programmes, each approved by the Pharmacy Council of India with IES University as examining authority.
| Programme | Duration | Approved intake | Minimum eligibility stated by the college |
|---|---|---|---|
| B.Pharm | 4 years, 8 semesters | 100 | 10+2 with PCM or PCB and at least 45% |
| B.Pharm lateral entry | 3 years | Not stated separately | D.Pharm from a PCI-approved institution |
| D.Pharm | 2 years | 60 | 10+2 with PCM or PCB and at least 45% |
| M.Pharm (Pharmaceutics) | 2 years, 4 semesters | 15 | B.Pharm with at least 55%, or 50% for non-creamy-layer SC, ST and OBC candidates of Madhya Pradesh |
Pharmaceutics is the only M.Pharm branch, and it is young. The college's SIF return to the Pharmacy Council records the M.Pharm starting in 2022-23 with 15 students admitted, and in the same return every B.Pharm and D.Pharm seat was filled in each of the three years it covers. There is no Pharm.D and no doctoral programme on the college's course list.
What IES Institute of Pharmacy Bhopal Charges
The only fee the college itself publishes is dated. Its mandatory disclosure, updated on 31/01/2023, gives the fee as 70000/- a year for the 2022-23 admission calendar and records 02 fee waivers offered. The disclosure does not say which programme the figure applies to, and the college's site carries no fee schedule for the current session, so ask the admission cell for the current fee per programme in writing before paying.
Fees carry most of the college's costs. Its audited income and expenditure account for the financial year that ended in March 2025 shows gross fees of 4,96,01,322.00 against salary and related costs of 4,15,68,163.00, and the year closed with a net deficit of 53,96,270.09.
Admissions
Admission is run by IES University's admission cell, not by the Directorate of Technical Education. The college's admission guidelines say candidates apply on the university's form, then sit an entrance test, interview or counselling round whose dates the university announces, and its home page names the IES Common Admission Test (ICAT) or counselling as the route into the B.Pharm and D.Pharm.
The state process is a separate track, and this college is not on it. The Directorate's current seat chart for bachelor and diploma pharmacy lists private Bhopal colleges such as Truba Institute of Pharmacy and Oriental College of Pharmacy, but no IES pharmacy college appears under either the private or the university-owned category. The same is true of the Directorate's master of pharmacy chart for Bhopal, which carries Truba's Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology seats but nothing from IES. A student who registers for DTE counselling therefore cannot choose this college in that process.
Selection has leaned on school marks rather than a ranked test. The 2023 mandatory disclosure describes the entrance and admission criteria as "12th basis" and lists the admission quota as Open, with no PIO quota. The same guidelines page carries a notice that some agencies have been selling fake admissions in the university's name and that it has no study centres, so pay only the university or the college directly.
For M.Pharm, the college's own page asks for a B.Pharm with the minimum marks in the table above and does not mention GPAT as a condition. Confirm with the admission cell whether a GPAT score changes your merit position or any stipend.
Cutoff
No cutoff exists for this college in any public record. Because it is outside the Directorate's counselling, it has no opening or closing rank there, and the self-assessment report it filed with the National Board of Accreditation enters NA against both national and state entrance examinations for the years it covers. Admission has been decided on 12th marks and the university's own test or interview, and the college publishes no closing marks for any year.
Placements
The college's NIRF 2025 return is the fullest placement record it has filed. It covers the B.Pharm batches that entered in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21, which leaves out the very first class.
| B.Pharm graduating year | Graduated on time | Placed | Median salary (Rs a year) | Went to higher studies |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021-22 | 91 | 15 | 240000 | 19 |
| 2022-23 | 93 | 12 | 282500 | 17 |
| 2023-24 | 96 | 53 | 350000 | 21 |
The latest year is the one that changed. Placements more than quadrupled between the 2022-23 and 2023-24 graduating classes, and the median rose each year; before that, fewer than one graduate in six was placed. The return has no M.Pharm or D.Pharm placement rows, so there is no filed record yet for the master's course that began in 2022-23.
The college's own named sheets tell a different story for the same class. Its placement record for the 2018-22 batch lists 38 students placed on campus, 18 off campus and 6 in higher studies, with Profic Organic Ltd., Alwin Willcure Pharmaceuticals, Obsurge Biotech, Advantmed, Octavus Consulting and IDS Infotech among the employers. That is far more jobs than the 15 the ranking return reports for graduates of 2021-22, and the sheet does not say how an entry was counted, so the ranking return, which the college submitted to the national ranking framework, is the more formal of the two.
The first batch's sheet shows where the early jobs went. In the 2017-21 placement record, Transcure accounts for 17 on-campus names, followed by Advantmed, and several off-campus names went to Reliance Retail and Paras Industries.
Seat Matrix
The college publishes its approved intake but no category-wise break-up of seats. Its SIF return gives a sanctioned intake of 100 for B.Pharm, 60 for D.Pharm and 15 for M.Pharm Pharmaceutics, and the B.Pharm and D.Pharm pages say only that reservation for SC, ST and OBC follows state government norms. Because the seats are not in the Directorate's counselling, no state seat chart splits them into open, reserved or EWS seats, so ask the admission cell how many seats in your category remain before you apply.
Rankings
A score of 42.21 put IES Institute of Pharmacy at rank 95 in NIRF 2025 pharmacy, its first year inside the top 100, and no other college or university from Madhya Pradesh made that list. A year earlier it was in the 2024 rank band of 101-125, listed alphabetically without a score.
| NIRF 2025 pharmacy parameter | Score out of 100 |
|---|---|
| Teaching, learning and resources | 58.85 |
| Research and professional practice | 6.58 |
| Graduation outcomes | 46.24 |
| Outreach and inclusivity | 73.50 |
| Perception | 59.87 |
Research is the parameter dragging the total down, while outreach and inclusivity pulls it up. The data return behind that research score shows why: no Ph.D. students, 3 sponsored projects bringing in 1625000 in 2023-24, and 8 consultancy projects worth 3675000. Consultancy earns the college more than twice what sponsored research does.
The ranking is the institute's, not the university's. The NIRF entry carries the college identifier IR-P-C-58318 and the name IES Institute of Pharmacy, so a listing that credits IES University with rank 95 has attached it to the wrong body.
Departments
The college does not organise its site by departments, but its faculty list and laboratory return show where the teaching weight sits. Pharmaceutics dominates: of the teachers on the faculty page, 19 list Pharmaceutics as their specialisation and 11 list Pharmacology, with Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, biotechnology and drug regulatory affairs making up the rest.
| Department | Laboratories | Laboratory area (sq m) |
|---|---|---|
| Pharmaceutics (B.Pharm) | 3 | 225 |
| Pharmaceutics (M.Pharm) | 2 | 150 |
| Pharmaceutical Chemistry | 4 | 300 |
| Pharmacology | 3 | 225 |
| Pharmacognosy | 1 | 75 |
| Pharmacy Practice | 1 | 75 |
The weighting matches the course list. The only master's programme is in Pharmaceutics, and Pharmacognosy has a single laboratory even though the principal specialises in it.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The campus is compact. The SIF return records 2.0 acres of land, a built-up area of 4752 square metres, 7 classrooms, an 80 square metre central instrumentation room, an animal house of the same size, a medicinal plant garden, and 60 computers. For the B.Pharm, the library holds 1057 titles and 4465 volumes with 10 journals.
The college's laboratory page names a Central Instrumental Lab, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmaceutics and Pharmacology laboratories and an APHE laboratory. Spending on them has risen: the NIRF 2025 return puts new laboratory equipment at 2754474 in 2023-24, up from 1803896 in 2021-22, and library spending at 2061218. Its disability answers claim wheelchair and walking-aid support between buildings, with ramps, lifts and adapted toilets said to cover upward of 80% of the built campus.
Buses run from points across Bhopal, but the transport page warns that the service must be taken for the full session and cannot be joined or cancelled midway. Sports listed on the playground page include basketball, cricket, football, skating, chess, carrom and karate.
Hostel
The college's hostel page describes separate furnished hostels for boys and girls with a residential warden, dining halls, medical aid and round-the-clock security, but it gives no rent, mess charge or room count. Its own filing to the Pharmacy Council is less generous: the SIF return marks a boys' hostel as available and enters 0 against the girls' hostel. A woman student planning to live on campus should get the hostel's location, fee and room type confirmed in writing before admission.
Faculty
The college's faculty list names 37 teachers, one of them with a leaving date of 31-Jan-2026. Among them are 3 professors, 4 associate professors and 30 assistant professors, and 7 hold a Ph.D. Every entry is marked Regular and Full Time.
Leadership is recent. Dr. Kavita R. Loksh, a pharmacognosy specialist, joined as principal on 23-01-25, and her profile lists more than 21 years of teaching and earlier posts as director of Oriental College of Pharmacy, Bhopal and principal of several other pharmacy colleges. The 2023 mandatory disclosure still named Dr. Vinod Kumar Gauttam, who had joined on 01/03/2017, as principal. Three of the four associate professors joined on 01-07-25, so much of the senior teaching team is new.
Some staff have been here since the start. Ms. Damini Singh, an assistant professor in Pharmaceutics, joined on 01-07-17, the college's first academic year, and a group of assistant professors joined in 2018 when the second B.Pharm batch arrived.
Notable Alumni
The college names no distinguished graduates, and its mandatory disclosure answers "No" against distinguished alumni. With its first B.Pharm class finishing only in 2021, that is expected. The only graduate named on its committee pages is Mr. Govind Tiwary, proprietor of MAA Pharmaceutical & Surgical Agency, who sits as the alumni member of its Entrepreneurship Development Cell.
News & Articles
The news panel on the college's home page carries only three items: its final SIF report, a national workshop on the importance of pharmacy, and guidelines for scholarship and loan facilities, and only the SIF report opens a document. The newsletter menu offers issues for 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22, with nothing newer, while the separate newsletter page returns a page-not-found message. For admission dates, the university's admission cell is a more reliable source than the college's news feed.
College Compare
The comparison most students need is with a Bhopal pharmacy college they would meet in state counselling. Truba Institute of Pharmacy is a useful one, because its B.Pharm was accredited by NBA in the same cycle, yet the route in and the degree differ.
| Point of comparison | IES Institute of Pharmacy | Truba Institute of Pharmacy, Bhopal |
|---|---|---|
| How the B.Pharm seat is allotted | IES University's own test, interview or counselling | Directorate of Technical Education online counselling |
| Examining authority on PCI's list | IES University | Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya |
| NIRF 2025 pharmacy | Rank 95 | Not in the ranked list |
| NBA status of B.Pharm | Accredited, with further accreditation to 2029 | Accredited up to 30-06-2026, no extension shown |
A student weighing a counselling seat against a seat here is trading a transparent merit list for a stronger ranking. Check the fee in writing, since the college's published figure dates from 2023.
Contact & Location
The college shares the IES campus at Kalkheda on Ratibad Main Road with IES University, whose own letterhead carries the same campus address, so the university's admission cell and the college are on one site.

Approvals & Accreditation
Statutory approvals and accreditation grades from official bodies.
The B.Pharm holds National Board of Accreditation status, and it has already outlived its first term. That term covered three academic years and ran out on 30-06-2026. The renewal on NBA's programme list comes in two parts, a bridge that began on 1st July 2026 and then a full term from 1st January 2027 to 31st December 2029. When the college applied, its self-assessment report marked the D.Pharm as eligible but not applied and the M.Pharm as not eligible, so neither carries NBA accreditation.
The Pharmacy Council's current approved lists for degree, diploma and M.Pharm courses all include the college. Its entry carries the Aadhaar-based biometric attendance and student-upload direction, with its warning of proceedings under Section 13, that the Council has attached to most colleges on the degree list, so it is not a penalty singled out for this college. The college's site states no NAAC grade for the institute, and any NAAC grade quoted for IES University belongs to the university, not to this institute.
Aid
Scholarships
Most students here have their tuition covered from one source or another, according to the college's filing. The NIRF 2025 data return counts 169 B.Pharm students receiving full tuition reimbursement from state and central government funds and 153 from the institution's own funds, and it counts exactly 169 socially challenged (SC, ST and OBC) students and 153 economically backward students. The college does not explain the institutional reimbursement, so ask what income or merit condition it carries.
The home page's link to scholarship and loan guidelines does not open a document. Beyond reimbursement, the 2023 disclosure lists 02 fee waivers, and it does not say who qualifies for them.

No student ratings appear here, because Expertie has neither gathered nor checked reviews from people who studied at IES Institute of Pharmacy. The perception score under Rankings is the one external measure of how peers and employers see the college, and the two named placement sheets show what individual graduates of its early batches went on to do. Complaints go to the student grievance cell at grievance@iesbpl.ac.in, listed on the contact page.
