Indian Institute Of Management Kozhikode
IIM Kozhikode holds rank 3 in the NIRF 2025 Management ranking with a score of 79.85, behind only IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore. Its two-year flagship MBA, the PGP, is taught on two hills at Kunnamangalam outside the Kerala city of Kozhikode, and the Common Admission Test opens the door there without deciding who walks through it. The category percentile floors, the fee a student actually pays, and the numbers the institute published for its 2023 to 2025 batch tell a more useful story than the rank on its own.
Overview
IIM Kozhikode was set up in 1996 as the fifth Indian Institute of Management, a joint effort of the central government and the Government of Kerala, and it is classed as an Institute of National Importance. The Wikipedia record traces its growth from a first batch of a few dozen students to a residential campus spread across two hills of the Western Ghats, with a satellite campus opened at Kochi in 2012 for its executive programme. It carries the AMBA and EQUIS international accreditations, the marks that European and British accreditation bodies award to business schools they audit.
The institute runs the two-year PGP as its core degree, alongside PGP-Finance, PGP in Liberal Studies and Management, the one-year PGP in Business Leadership for experienced managers, the executive EPGP at Kochi, and a doctoral programme. Its NIRF 2025 score of 79.85 places it a clear step above the fourth and fifth ranked management schools, and it sits under the tagline the institute has adopted for itself, Globalizing Indian Thought.
Courses & Fees
The fee a student pays turns entirely on which programme they enter, so the sticker figure for one says little about the others. The two-year PGP publishes its full 2026 to 2028 schedule as a separate document on the official fee page, while the one-year PGP in Business Leadership states a single all-in figure.
| Programme | Duration | Entry route | Fee | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PGP (flagship MBA) | 2 years | CAT, then WAT and interview | Published on the official PGP fee page | IIM Kozhikode PGP fee page |
| PGP in Business Leadership | 1 year | For experienced professionals | Rs 22,50,000 total | IIM Kozhikode PGP-BL fees |
For the one-year programme, the PGP-BL fee page sets the programme fee at Rs 22,50,000, of which Rs 7,50,000 falls due at registration and the balance across three instalments, with a non-refundable application fee of Rs 3,000; that figure covers in-campus hostel accommodation and library access, while mess charges sit outside it. A candidate who accepts a two-year PGP offer must remit an advance of Rs 1,00,000 with the acceptance, per the PGP admissions policy, before paying the remaining fees on the registration day.
Admissions
Admission to the two-year PGP runs through three stages, and a valid CAT score only carries a candidate into the first of them.
At the shortlisting stage, IIM Kozhikode builds an Aggregate Index Score in each category from more than the test alone. The admissions policy for the 2026 to 2028 batch sets these weights.
| Shortlisting component | Weight | Source |
|---|---|---|
| CAT index score | 50% | PGP admissions policy |
| Class 12 percentage | 20% | PGP admissions policy |
| Class 10 percentage | 15% | PGP admissions policy |
| Gender or academic diversity | 10% or 5% | PGP admissions policy |
| Work experience | 5% | PGP admissions policy |
Shortlisted candidates sit a Written Ability Test and a personal interview, held in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Mumbai and New Delhi. At this final stage the weighting shifts sharply away from the entrance test.
| Final-score component | Weight | Source |
|---|---|---|
| CAT index score | 35% | PGP admissions policy |
| Personal interview | 35% | PGP admissions policy |
| Written Ability Test | 20% | PGP admissions policy |
| Resume score | 10% | PGP admissions policy |
The policy awards the gender diversity score of 10 only to female and transgender candidates, and the academic diversity score of 5 to applicants whose bachelor's degree lies outside engineering and technology; a candidate can claim one of the two, never both. Because the interview and the written test each pull real weight at the end, a high percentile makes a strong applicant necessary but not a finished one.
Cutoff
The number students search for as an IIM Kozhikode cutoff is really an eligibility floor, not a closing rank. IIM Kozhikode does not release opening and closing ranks the way engineering counselling does; instead it publishes a minimum CAT percentile, by category, that a candidate must clear to be considered at all, and only applicants with a positive scaled score in every CAT section qualify.
| Category | Minimum overall percentile | Minimum sectional percentile | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| General | 85 | 75 | PGP admissions policy |
| OBC-NCL and EWS | 75 | 65 | PGP admissions policy |
| SC | 65 | 55 | PGP admissions policy |
| ST and PwD | 55 | 45 | PGP admissions policy |
Clearing the percentile floor is a threshold to register, not an interview call, and a general-category applicant also needs 60 percent in Class 10, in Class 12 and in a graduation degree of at least three years to register at all. Whether that registration turns into an offer depends on the Aggregate Index Score and then the final score, where the CAT count drops to a third.
Placements
The most honest read of the 2025 season at IIM Kozhikode is its median, not its top figure. The official Final Placements Report 2025 records a median package of Rs 27.50 lakh and a mean of Rs 28.18 lakh for the 2023 to 2025 batch, with the mean for women slightly higher at Rs 31.04 lakh; the headline top package of Rs 81.00 lakh sat well above both. A total of 561 students took part and 169 recruiters came to campus.
| Metric (PGP batch 2023 to 2025) | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Median CTC | Rs 27.50 lakh | Final Placements Report 2025 |
| Mean CTC | Rs 28.18 lakh | Final Placements Report 2025 |
| Mean CTC, women | Rs 31.04 lakh | Final Placements Report 2025 |
| Highest CTC | Rs 81.00 lakh | Final Placements Report 2025 |
| Top 5 percentile average | Rs 49.00 lakh | Final Placements Report 2025 |
| Top 10 percentile average | Rs 46.71 lakh | Final Placements Report 2025 |
| Students participating | 561 | Final Placements Report 2025 |
| Recruiters | 169 | Final Placements Report 2025 |
Where the offers landed says more than the averages. The same report puts consulting at 32 percent of offers and finance at 19.2 percent, with general management at 16.4 percent, sales and marketing at 14.4 percent, operations at 13.5 percent, and IT and analytics at 4.5 percent. Consulting roles carried an average of Rs 33.13 lakh, up 7.01 percent on the prior year, while operations climbed 11.45 percent to an average of Rs 28.33 lakh.
Seat Matrix
IIM Kozhikode does not publish a public category-wise seat matrix in the way that a JoSAA or state medical counselling authority does, so a fixed table of General, OBC, SC, ST and EWS seats is not available to reproduce here. The nearest honest measure of batch size is the placement cohort: the Final Placements Report 2025 shows 561 students from the 2023 to 2025 batch going through final placements. Seats are filled category-wise under the Government of India reservation norms for Central Educational Institutions, as stated in the admissions policy, with the exact intake for a cycle set by the institute before that year's shortlist.
Rankings
IIM Kozhikode's rank 3 in NIRF 2025 rests on an uneven set of parameter scores rather than an all-round lead. The NIRF 2025 Management table breaks its overall 79.85 into five parameters, and the pattern is worth reading before treating the rank as a single verdict.
| NIRF 2025 parameter | Score out of 100 | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Teaching, Learning and Resources | 87.75 | NIRF 2025 Management |
| Research and Professional Practice | 64.14 | NIRF 2025 Management |
| Graduation Outcomes | 95.35 | NIRF 2025 Management |
| Outreach and Inclusivity | 77.80 | NIRF 2025 Management |
| Perception | 74.26 | NIRF 2025 Management |
| Overall (rank 3) | 79.85 | NIRF 2025 Management |
The profile behind the rank is lopsided. A near-maximal Graduation Outcomes score of 95.35 and a strong Teaching score of 87.75 do most of the lifting, while the Research score of 64.14 and the Perception score of 74.26 are the two holding it under the top pair. Perception is the softer of those, the familiar cost of being a younger institute measured against the older Ahmedabad and Calcutta names, rather than any weakness in its teaching or placement.
Departments
The eight academic areas at IIM Kozhikode are the units a student picks electives and a specialisation from, and the faculty listing names each one. Two of them, Finance and Decision Sciences, carry the analytics and quantitative-finance reputation the institute is known for.
- Economics
- Finance, Accounting and Control
- Humanities and Liberal Arts in Management
- Information Systems
- Marketing Management
- Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management
- Decision Sciences and Operations Management
- Strategic Management
The newer Humanities and Liberal Arts in Management area feeds the institute's PGP in Liberal Studies and Management, a programme few other IIMs run.
Facilities & Infrastructure
The campus is the institute's most distinctive asset, laid out across two hills at Kunnamangalam so that academic blocks, hostels and faculty housing step up and down the slope. The campus record describes a fully automated Library and Information Centre and an Indian Business Museum on the grounds, and the terraced, forested setting doubles as the institute's rainwater catchment. A separate satellite campus at Kochi, opened in 2012, houses the executive programme so that working managers can attend without relocating to the main hill campus.
Hostel
Residence is part of the programme, not an add-on, since the PGP is fully residential and students live on the hill campus for the two years. For the one-year PGP in Business Leadership, the fee page states plainly that the Rs 22,50,000 programme fee already includes in-campus hostel accommodation, with only mess and canteen charges billed separately by use. The two-year PGP folds its hostel charge into the fee schedule published on the official fee page, so accommodation is built into the fee, not a separate charge.
Faculty
Teaching runs through the eight academic areas, so a student's marketing and operations electives can come from scholars with very different research backgrounds. IIM Kozhikode does not put a single professor headcount on its public faculty page, so we do not state one; the area pages there carry the individual profiles and their fields. Research is the institute's lower NIRF parameter, and the finance and decision-sciences groups produce most of the output it has to build on there.
Notable Alumni
IIM Kozhikode does not maintain a public, verified roster of notable alumni on its official site, and we name individuals only when their record is traceable to a reliable source, so this section stays empty rather than repeating unverified lists that circulate on aggregator pages. The institute's own alumni office and its convocation records are the right places to confirm any specific name before relying on it.
News & Articles
IIM Kozhikode posts its admission notifications, placement summaries and event notices in the announcements section of its official site, and that page is the primary source for anything dated. Because these items move by cycle, a reader chasing a specific deadline or result should confirm it there rather than on a third-party aggregator.
College Compare
Compared on official standing rather than marketing, IIM Kozhikode's place is easy to fix. In the NIRF 2025 Management ranking its score of 79.85 puts it third, ahead of the management school at IIT Delhi on 78.94 and IIM Lucknow on 77.97, and behind IIM Ahmedabad on 83.29 and IIM Bangalore on 81.56. That makes it the highest-ranked IIM outside the Ahmedabad and Bengaluru pair in that year's table, a useful anchor for a shortlist that a student can verify against each institute's own parameter scores rather than a brochure claim.
Contact & Location
IIM Kozhikode sits at IIMK Campus P.O., Kunnamangalam, in the Kozhikode district of Kerala, at PIN 673 570, as listed on the institute's contact page. The same page places the campus about 16 km from the Kozhikode, or Calicut, railway station, on the road out to Kunnamangalam. The official website, iimk.ac.in, carries the current phone numbers and programme-office emails for admission and placement queries.
