Uchch Shiksha Puraskar Yojana(USPY)
Overview
About USPY
The Uchch Shiksha Puraskar Yojana is a state award scheme run by the Commerce & Industries Department, Government of Chhattisgarh. It is directed at students from weaver families, a community the department works with through the state's handloom cooperative network.
The scheme is meant to push young people from weaver households towards higher education. It gives a one-time cash award to a student who secures admission to the first year of a professional degree at a government college in Chhattisgarh, in a stream such as engineering, medicine, chartered accountancy or management. The award lands at the point of admission, so it reads as a merit-linked incentive rather than a stipend paid across the course.
The reach is narrow by design. You need to belong to a weaver family and to take up a first-year seat in one of the named professional streams at a government college in the state. A private-college admission, or a course outside that set, falls outside what the scheme covers.
