About TRSP

The Tiatr Research Scholarship Program rewards a college or university student for research on tiatr, Goa's Konkani stage form, its songs or its music. The Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) pays a scholarship whose amount it fixes itself and, if its Recommendation Board approves the work, prints the research as a book. What applicants lack is information: the rules are short, the amount is unpublished and no dated call is posted.

TAG's own name for this scheme is Scholarship to Students for Research Related to Tiatr; myScheme lists the same scheme as the Tiatr Research Scholarship Program (TRSP). Use the Academy's name when you write to its office, because that is the title on its rules sheet and application form (TAG scheme rules).

The scheme is meant for a student already doing research or a project on tiatr, and it is small by design. Rule 5 of the sheet allows ten scholarships a year, weighted toward undergraduates: six at graduation level, three at post-graduation and one for a doctoral scholar (TAG scheme rules).

The Academy's own record shows far fewer awards than that. Its activity report for 2015 to 2018 records a single scholarship under the scheme, at MA level (TAG Report of Activities 2015-2018). Its reports for April 2020 to March 2022, April 2022 to March 2023 and April 2023 to March 2024 describe no award made under it, although the later two list it among TAG's schemes (TAG Report of Activities 2020-2022; TAG Report of Activities 2022-2023; TAG Report of Activities 2023-2024). Confirm with the office that a call is running before you build a plan around it.

No dates are published. The myScheme record carries no opening or closing date, and TAG's rules say only that the scholarships are for every academic year and that the filled form must reach the office within the stipulated time (TAG scheme rules).

The sheet the schemes page links for this scholarship sits in the site's March 2024 uploads, while TAG has since re-issued a few others, such as Promotion of Tiatr for Schools and the assistance to troupes in Kala Academy's annual tiatr competition, whose sheets are named for 2025 and 2026 (Schemes of TAG). Check the page for a newer research-scholarship sheet before you print the form, and ask TAG early in the academic year whether applications are open and what the last date is.

Eligibility criteria

Beyond being a bonafide student whose research or project is on tiatr, the one academic bar is 50% marks in your last examination, a percentage you write on the form itself (TAG scheme rules). There is no separate form per level: the class you state you are studying in places you at graduation, post-graduation or PhD level.

The rules sheet on the Academy's website settles a script problem that the myScheme summary leaves out. Because Konkani at college and university level is written in Devanagari, TAG says it can publish the book in Roman script provided the applicant gives it a copy in Roman script (TAG scheme rules). A Konkani thesis submitted to your university in Devanagari is therefore not shut out, but the form's language line still offers only English or Konkani in Roman script, so budget time for a Roman-script version. The older copy of the rules hosted on goa.gov.in, which myScheme cites and links as the application form, does not carry this clause (TAG citizen charter).

Neither version of the rules sets a Goa domicile requirement or an income ceiling. If you study outside Goa, put the question of residence to the office before applying rather than assuming either way.

Who cannot apply

Exclusions

myScheme publishes no exclusion list, but the Academy's rules leave these applicants out in practice (TAG scheme rules):

• A student who has already received TAG's scholarship in the same category.
• A student who scored below 50% in the last examination (rule 3).
• A researcher who is not enrolled as a student; independent writers fit the Academy's separate author scheme instead (see the FAQ).
• Research written in a language other than English or Konkani, such as Hindi, Marathi or Portuguese.
• An application that reaches TAG's office after the time the Academy fixes for that year.

Renewal conditions

Nothing renews automatically. Each award is tied to an academic year, and TAG gives it only once in a particular category (TAG scheme rules).

The route onward is upward. A student who held the graduation-level award may apply again at post-graduation or PhD level, so one person can receive it at most once at each of the three levels, with a fresh application and a fresh research report every time (TAG scheme rules). The form asks whether you have received a TAG scholarship before, so declare the earlier award when you move up a level.

TAG publishes no rate card. The rules say only that the amount of each scholarship will be as decided by TAG from time to time (TAG scheme rules). The one amount on record is historical: the 2015 to 2018 activity report says its single award under the scheme, to an MA student, was Rs 10,000 (TAG Report of Activities 2015-2018). Read that as a past payment, not as the current amount for any level.

The printed book is the benefit that sets this scheme apart from a cash-only award. After the Recommendation Board approves the research, TAG prints it in book form and hands the student 100 copies in addition to the scholarship money (TAG scheme rules). Printing depends on that approval, so the rules do not promise a book to every scholar.

What to prepare

Documents required

The paperwork runs in two stages, and the second is a promise you sign during the first. At application you hand in the filled form, self-attested copies of your Aadhaar and PAN cards, and a report of the research carried out, signed by your guide or by the head of your institution (TAG scheme rules). The form also carries an undertaking to submit a copy of your research work certified by the guide, which myScheme places at the benefit disbursal stage.

The form itself asks for details the myScheme document list does not mention: the class you are studying in, your percentage in the last examination, your institution and department, your residential address, the title of your research, its language and any earlier TAG scholarship (TAG scheme rules). A graduation-level student who has never needed a PAN card should apply for one well before the form is due, since the rules name the PAN copy alongside the Aadhaar copy. myScheme's list also adds a mark sheet and proof of enrolment, each labelled as inferred rather than taken from TAG's rules (myScheme TRSP record); carry both anyway, because the form asks for your percentage and your institution.

Step by step

How to apply

The application is on paper. myScheme tags the mode as online, yet its own steps describe printing the form and delivering it to TAG's office, and the Academy's rules ask for the filled form at that office within the stipulated time (TAG scheme rules).

1. Download the rules-and-form sheet listed as Scholarship to Students for Research Related to Tiatr on the Academy's schemes page (Schemes of TAG), not the older charter copy that myScheme's first step links to, which lacks the Devanagari clause.
2. Get the research report signed by your guide or head of institution first, since it depends on someone else's time.
3. Fill in the form, sign its declarations and its undertaking to submit a guide-certified copy of the research, and attach the self-attested Aadhaar and PAN copies.
4. Deliver the form to TAG's office in Panaji within the time the Academy sets for the year, and ask for a dated acknowledgment.

Following Up After You Submit

There is no online status page to check. The scheme is not listed with a DBT flag in its myScheme record, no application URL is published for it, and TAG's rules route everything through its office (myScheme TRSP record). Keep a copy of the signed form and the acknowledgment, as myScheme advises, and follow up with the office by quoting your research title and level. The useful questions are whether the committee of evaluators has met for the year and, once you are selected, when the Recommendation Board will look at your work for printing.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Eligibility does not guarantee an award. When several applications come in, a committee of evaluators or experts appointed by TAG makes the selection, and the rules give preference to students who have experience in the field of tiatr (TAG scheme rules). The rules do not define that experience, and the application form has no line for it, so ask the office how to show it.

Publication is a separate decision taken later by the Recommendation Board, which approves the research before TAG prints it.

By signing, you state that you have read and understood the rules, that the information you gave is true, and that you will submit a guide-certified copy of your research.
