Overview

About Dbsheo

The Dayanand Bandodkar Scheme for Higher Education for Orphans is a Goa state fee-waiver scheme for students who have lost both parents and cannot meet the cost of continuing their education. It is built to carry a student from an undergraduate course through to a postgraduate course, across both general and technical education.

The support is given in kind rather than as cash. It takes the form of a full waiver of the fees a student would otherwise pay to the institution, covering tuition, library, laboratory and development fees, along with charges such as lodging, boarding, food and transport where these apply.

Eligibility is narrow. A student must have lost both parents and must lack the resources to fund their studies. The Goa tie runs through domicile and prior schooling rather than the current course: an applicant must have been born in Goa or have lived in the state for at least the last fifteen years, and must have passed the qualifying examination at an institution in Goa. Support is meant to begin in the first year of a degree or postgraduate course, and a student with a surviving parent falls outside its scope.
