Overview

About TSHMCY

The Theka Shramik, Gharelu Mahila Kamgar Evan Hamaal Shramik Ke Bachcho Hetu Chhaatravrtti Yojana is a scholarship run by the Government of Chhattisgarh through the state Labour Department. Chhattisgarh runs it as one of a set of welfare measures for three groups of unorganised workers: contract workers (theka shramik), domestic women workers (gharelu mahila kamgar), and hamaal, the porters who load and carry goods.

The scheme gives cash assistance towards the education of these workers' children. It runs through the state's social security board for unorganised workers and sits with the Labour Department's other schemes for the same three categories, such as maternity and marriage assistance. Because of that structure, support turns on a parent being a registered worker in one of the covered categories, not on the student alone.

The benefit is meant for children in Chhattisgarh whose parents work as contract labour, domestic help, or porters and are registered under the relevant welfare board. It is a state scheme, so it is confined to Chhattisgarh and to families in these occupations.
