About TIP

The Technical Internship Programme belongs to the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), an independent business division of Digital India Corporation that builds DigiLocker, UMANG and myScheme for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Anyone searching that phrase lands on at least three other things at the same time: the Prime Minister Internship Scheme, MeitY's own Digital India Internship Scheme, and NeGD's separate non-technical summer internship. None of those is the programme described here.

NeGD introduced it in 2025, and the Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology set out its shape in the Lok Sabha on 11 February 2026: interns are hired twice a year in a January and a July session, the internship runs for 6 months, and interns receive a stipend of Rs 20,000 per month after the completion of 30 days (Lok Sabha Unstarred Question 1893).

The programme is written for engineering graduates and postgraduates alone, and the intake is capped at 50 interns spread across named technical roles that run from backend development to DevOps and infrastructure monitoring. It is not a remote posting. The notification states plainly that the internship is offline and requires the intern to visit the organisation daily and keep NeGD's working hours (Technical Internship Programme notification), and NeGD works out of Electronics Niketan in New Delhi with a branch office in Noida (NeGD contact page).

NeGD publishes a tentative calendar with the notification rather than confirmed dates, and the July session runs like this:

The January session mirrors that shape half a year later, and the last application date NeGD published for it was 31 December 2025 (NeGD technical internship listing). The most recent window NeGD published closed on 15 June 2026 (NeGD technical internship notification), and no date for the next round has been announced in either notification, so the announcement itself is the signal to watch for.

Who can apply

Eligibility criteria

The marks bar is the first thing to check and the thing that ends most applications. An applicant has to be an engineering graduate or postgraduate, or hold an equivalent qualification, with at least 75% marks in the qualifying degree (Technical Internship Programme notification). There is no relaxation clause in the notification, and no alternative route for a candidate who falls short on percentage but has strong project work.

The second filter is the batch window, and it moves every cycle. The 2025 notification opened the programme to candidates who had passed in 2024 and 2025 plus final-year students of 2026 (Technical Internship Programme notification). The notification issued a year later shifted the same window forward, to candidates who passed in 2025 and 2026 plus final-year students of 2027 (NeGD technical internship notification). A batch that qualified in one round drops out of the next, so a candidate reading an old advertisement can misread their own eligibility by a full year.

An application also has to travel through the applicant's institution. The later notification requires applications to be sponsored or forwarded by the institution where the applicant is currently enrolled or has recently passed out (NeGD technical internship notification). A candidate who left college two years ago still needs the last institution to sign off, which is worth starting early rather than in the final week.

Meeting every bar on that list still buys nothing on its own. The current notification says in terms that possessing the minimum baseline qualifications or minimum percentage marks does not guarantee selection for the internship programme at NeGD (NeGD technical internship notification).

Exclusions

Nothing in either advertisement is written as a disqualification, and myScheme carries the same blank. In practice the eligibility clause does all the excluding by itself: a percentage under the bar, a passing year outside the window that cycle's advertisement names, a qualification that is not an engineering degree, or a form no institution has put its signature to.

The rule that costs an applicant the most is not NeGD's. The Prime Minister Internship Scheme treats anyone undergoing a skill, apprenticeship, internship or student training programme under a Central Government scheme as ineligible (PIB release on the PM Internship Scheme pilot). Holding a live NeGD internship therefore closes the door on that scheme for as long as the internship runs, which matters because the two overlap heavily in the search results and a candidate may be weighing both.

Renewal conditions

No renewal route exists, and none is meant to. The duration is fixed at 6 months and the notification states it will not be extended further (NeGD technical internship notification). A former intern wanting a second stint would have to compete again in a later session, and by then the rolling batch window has usually left them behind.

The stipend is Rs 20,000 per month, described in the notification as a token stipend paid subject to satisfactory performance duly certified by the mentor after completion of every 30 days (NeGD technical internship notification). The rhythm of that payment is the part worth noticing. NeGD's non-technical internship pays its Rs 15,000 only after the internship ends, on submission of a report accepted by NeGD (NeGD non-technical internship notification), and MeitY's Digital India Internship Scheme pays its Rs 10,000 on the same lump-sum basis after the report is accepted (Digital India Internship Scheme 2026 guidelines). An intern here is paid in 30-day increments instead of waiting until the end.

The second output is a certificate, issued by NeGD on satisfactory completion of the full 6 months and subject to the mentor's certification (Technical Internship Programme notification). Both the stipend and the certificate hang on the same two conditions, regular attendance and satisfactory performance, which is why an intern who drifts on attendance risks losing more than a month's money.

Nothing else is promised. The notification names no travel allowance, no accommodation, no relocation support and no assurance of employment at NeGD afterwards, so a candidate moving to Delhi for the posting should price that in against the stipend.

What myScheme sets out, identity card, educational certificates, photographs, college identity card and the signed internship letter, is what a selected intern carries into Electronics Niketan on the day of joining rather than anything the form asks for. What the applicant submits earlier is a single online form, and in the most recent round that form was hosted on Google Forms and linked straight from the advertisement (NeGD technical internship notification).

Proof of the marks being claimed is what the whole form turns on, because the shortlist is built on the qualifying degree percentage and a figure the marksheet does not support will not survive scrutiny. The institutional sponsorship is the harder half, because it is a signature the applicant does not control and cannot produce on the last evening. Candidates who passed out recently are the ones this catches, because the college that has to forward the form is one they no longer walk into.

How to apply

The route is a single prescribed online form published on NeGD's website, and applications have to be sponsored or forwarded by the institution where the applicant is enrolled or has recently passed out (NeGD technical internship notification). There is no separate registration portal and no login to create, which is one of the sharpest differences from MeitY's Digital India Internship Scheme, where applicants register and sign in at a dedicated portal.

The window is short and it is announced only a few weeks ahead. The January session closed its form on 31 December 2025 (NeGD technical internship listing). For the July session, the last date was 15 June 2026, against a calendar that places the advertisement in the last week of May (NeGD technical internship notification). The gap between advertisement and closing date is measured in weeks, not months, so watching for the announcement matters more than preparing the form in advance.

Tracking a submitted application is where expectations need adjusting. NeGD publishes no application status dashboard for this programme. The notification's own calendar says selection happens in the last week of June for the July session and that intimation of selection goes to colleges and candidates in the same week (NeGD technical internship notification), which means the college that forwarded the application is a legitimate second place to ask. The notification puts the form on NeGD's own website, whose careers page carries the current openings (NeGD careers page), and Digital India Corporation mirrors the internship advertisement on its jobs pages (NeGD technical internship listing). By contrast, MeitY's Digital India Internship Scheme runs a status page applicants can check themselves (Digital India Internship Portal), so a candidate who has applied to both should not expect the same visibility from each.

How winners are picked

Selection process

Shortlisting starts from the qualifying degree marks, and final selection is made through interviews or on the judgement of an internal selection committee according to NeGD's requirements (Technical Internship Programme notification). Relevant certification courses carry weightage in both published rounds, so a candidate sitting on the marks bar has one visible lever.

The criteria have not stayed identical between cycles, and that is worth reading closely rather than trusting an older summary. The 2025 notification gave weightage to students from the top 100 colleges ranked each year under the National Institutional Ranking Framework by the Ministry of Education, and said selection would be based on a prescribed weightage formula (Technical Internship Programme notification). The following notification dropped both of those lines and replaced them with a blunt statement that minimum marks do not guarantee selection (NeGD technical internship notification). Whether the ranking weightage still operates internally is not something the current advertisement says.

Where the committee is described, it is made up of a representative of the concerned department or project and a nominated member from HR, and its recommendations go to the President and CEO of NeGD for the final decision (Technical Internship Programme notification).

The other thing that shapes the odds is which role a candidate applies against, because the slots are not split evenly. The largest single block is one combined product testing, security testing, software tester and quality analyst role at 11 slots, while data engineering and analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and DevOps and infrastructure monitoring carry 5 each (NeGD technical internship notification). A candidate who could credibly apply to more than one of those is choosing between very different denominators.

Attendance is a condition, not a courtesy. The internship is offline, the intern is required to visit the organisation daily and adhere to NeGD's working hours, and regular attendance together with satisfactory performance is required for both the stipend and the certificate (NeGD technical internship notification). For a student still finishing a final year elsewhere, that is a real conflict to resolve before applying rather than after selection.

The term is closed-ended. The duration is fixed at 6 months and the notification rules out any extension (NeGD technical internship notification), so the internship cannot be stretched to cover a longer academic project requirement.

Everything the advertisement does not cover is deferred to a standing document. The notification directs applicants to the Internship Policy on NeGD's website for general guidelines (NeGD technical internship notification), which is where the conditions the advertisement leaves out are meant to live.
