Top Class Education For Students With Disabilities(TCE-SWD)
Overview
About TCE-SWD
Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities is a central scholarship run by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), which sits under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. It supports students with disabilities who go on to higher education after class 12, and it is restricted to full-time courses at a set of institutions the department notifies as institutes of excellence, such as the IITs, IIMs and NITs.
The purpose is to remove the cost barrier that keeps students with disabilities out of premier institutions. Rather than a single grant, the benefit is composite: it combines academic fees with maintenance and other allowances, and it extends to aids and assistive devices where a student needs them. The scheme covers diploma, graduate and postgraduate study.
It is meant for students with a benchmark disability admitted to one of the notified institutions, subject to the department's disability, income and documentation conditions. Because eligibility turns on both the disability threshold and the notified-institution list, the specific criteria and amounts are worth reading in full before you apply.
