TEC Internship Scheme(TECIS)

TEC does not keep a door open for applications to arrive at. It opens one, shuts it, and stays shut until the next notification, which is why the scheme record shows neither an opening nor a closing date. Six of those cycles sit on the TEC Vacancies page.

The right-hand column is the date after any extension, not the date first announced. The notification of 15.10.2024 originally set 29/11/2024 and a corrigendum dated 27.11.2024 pushed it to 16.12.2024, because the advertisement only reached the newspapers on 16.11.2024, a month after the notification was signed. The most recent cycle moved the same way, and two of the four earlier cycles carry an extension notice or a corrigendum of their own on that page, so the first last date TEC announces is the one to treat as provisional.

Three profiles qualify, and all three are read against the same discipline list. An applicant is eligible while studying in the third or fourth year of a bachelor's degree in Electronics, Communications, Telecommunication, Radio, Information Technology, Computers or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or after completing such a bachelor's degree in the last one year, or after completing a postgraduate or master's degree in those disciplines in the last one year, in each case with a minimum of 60% marks, per the scheme document. The applicant has to be an Indian student, though the university may be in India or abroad.

Two things about that bar are easy to misread. The relaxation clause is discretionary and institutional, not a category entitlement: qualifications may be relaxed in deserving cases based on the needs of TEC, on the recommendation of the Selection Committee and with the approval of the Head of TEC. And the marks condition is a floor, not a ranking rule, because candidates with exposure in the area of intended internship, a good academic background and higher qualifications are given preference based on need.

Nothing in that clause tests money. The scheme document conditions eligibility on discipline, on stage of study and on marks, and sets no family income ceiling and no category quota behind them, which is worth knowing before anyone assembles an income certificate for it.

Read the listing on myScheme alone and this looks like a scheme nobody is barred from. The bar sits in the notification that opens each cycle. A candidate who has in the past completed six or twelve months in TEC as an intern is not eligible to reapply at any future date for the same, and delayed or incomplete applications are rejected summarily, per the TEC internship notification of 15.10.2024. The scheme document adds the point that applicants most often miss: possessing the minimum qualifications shall not guarantee an internship in TEC.

Renewal here means one thing only: an extension inside a running engagement. The minimum duration is six months and the ceiling is twelve, and anything past the first six is permitted only on the intern's own application, duly recommended by the concerned Head of Division and approved by the Head of TEC. Because finishing a stint closes the door on applying again, that single extension is the whole of an intern's runway at TEC.

The money is a token remuneration rather than a salary, and it is conditional twice over. Every intern is paid Rs 15,000 per month on a pro rata basis, and the remuneration is paid after completion of the month subject to satisfactory progress of work duly accepted by the concerned division. No travelling or daily allowance is paid to candidates called for a personal interview.

The certificate is the other deliverable, and it is not automatic either. It is issued by the concerned division in the Annexure III format only on successful completion and on submission of a report signed by the officer the intern was attached to, as acceptance of successful completion.

The application is a prescribed proforma, not a covering letter with a CV attached. Annexure II of the scheme document asks for the 12th standard record, year wise bachelor's marks, postgraduate marks where they exist, projects undertaken and papers presented or published, and three specific areas of work for the internship listed in order of priority. Below the applicant's signature sits a recommendation block that an authorised signatory of the institution has to sign, name, designate and seal, which is why an application sent without the institution's involvement does not get far.

Two attachments trip people up. An applicant whose degree carries a CGPA has to fill in the equivalent percentage as well and enclose documentary proof of the institute's conversion norm; where that proof is missing TEC derives the percentage by multiplying the CGPA by 9.5, which is the difference between clearing the 60% bar and missing it for anyone sitting near the line. And where the online route is open, the filled Annexure II and the supporting documents go up as a single PDF file named after the applicant, with a maximum file size of 10 MB, per the 15.10.2024 notification.

There is no standing application window. TEC invites applications only against a notification, and the scheme document says applications go to the designated office of TEC in response to an advertisement or notification from TEC.

The 15.10.2024 notification set out two routes, and either was acceptable: the online link available on the TEC website, or a duly filled proforma with the required documents sent by speed post or submitted personally to the Assistant Director General (Pers.), Telecommunication Engineering Centre, K. L. Bhawan, Janpath, New Delhi 110001, on or before the last date. Applications that arrive late or incomplete are rejected summarily, which makes the institute's signature the item to chase first, since it is the one part of the file an applicant does not control.

Once the file is in, tec.gov.in is the only place it surfaces. Para 10 of the same notification answers the question of where an application stands by telling applicants to visit the TEC website for the latest update, meaning submission and shortcomings, and para 11 says the list or panel of shortlisted candidates is likely to be hosted there, with offer letters going to selected candidates by email as per actual requirement. Neither of the two routes it names runs through a scholarship portal, so the answer to a candidate chasing a status is a page to reload rather than a login. For the cycle notified on 30.10.2025, a corrigendum dated 15.12.2025 extended the last date to 29.12.2025, moved the shortlist date to 01/02/2026, and named adgpers-tec@gov.in as the address for queries. The selected and waitlisted list is then filed as a document on the Vacancies page next to that cycle's notification and its corrigendum, so a single row there carries a cycle from opening to result.

A preliminary scrutiny on eligibility comes before anything else, and what survives it is placed before a Selection Committee constituted with the approval of the Head of TEC and made up of three DDsG or Directors, which may conduct a personal or telephonic interview if required.

Two clauses widen the process beyond that queue. TEC may shortlist applications, limit the number of applicants called for a particular period and decide the mode of screening, depending on how many applications arrive. TEC can also identify interns for a specific work domain after interaction with academic institutions, so a division's stated need can pull a candidate in directly.

One condition applies after selection and before joining. An applicant still studying has to produce a letter from the supervisor, head of department or institution stating their status and giving a no objection for the internship period, which is a second signature from the institution after the one on the application form.

The code of conduct is where an internship at a standards body differs from a campus internship. An intern may not reveal confidential information about TEC or DoT, its work or its policies. Work may be presented to academic bodies, seminars and conferences only with prior permission, and never with confidential material in it. Any paper the intern writes or publishes has to carry a caveat that the views are personal and do not reflect those of TEC, and no intern may interact with or represent TEC to print, electronic or social media.

Intellectual property is assigned outright. Any work done for TEC during the internship is the sole property of TEC, TEC reserves the right to use it for its own purposes, and the intern is barred from claiming intellectual property rights over it. Interns bring their own laptops; TEC provides working space and workplace internet.

Either side can end the engagement, on unequal terms. TEC reserves the right to disengage an intern at any point without assigning a reason, while an intern who wants to leave should give four weeks' prior notice, which a supervisor may waive. On disengagement, papers, equipment, badges and identity cards go back to TEC. The scheme document also states plainly that the internship is neither a job nor an assurance of a job with TEC.
