Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence(TARE)
Overview
About TARE
The Teachers Associateship for Research Excellence (TARE) is a research grant run by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body set up under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. SERB has since been merged into the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), which now administers the scheme.
The scheme is built around mobility. It places serving faculty into publicly funded laboratories to do research, drawing them from state universities, colleges and private academic institutions. Associates work at host institutions such as the IITs, IISc, IISERs, NITs and the national laboratories under CSIR, ICAR and ICMR, while keeping their post at their parent college or university.
The support is composite. The scheme adds a research grant, divided evenly between the host and parent institutions, plus overheads on the same basis. This grant runs for a fixed term and sits on top of a fellowship paid over the awardee's existing salary. Funding is tied to the associate spending a minimum period each year at the host institution.
TARE is meant for serving faculty, not students or fresh graduates. It is open to Indian citizens who hold a regular teaching post at an eligible state university, college or private academic institution, who have a doctorate or an equivalent research degree, and who are not already running another funded project or fellowship.
