Scholarship
Sero Positive Illness Scheme(SPIS)
Overview
About SPIS
The Sero Positive Illness Scheme is a state scholarship offered by the Social Justice and Empowerment Department, Government of Gujarat. It provides educational support, paid as a cash scholarship, to orphaned and destitute children affected by sero positive illness (HIV).
Within the department, care of vulnerable children rests with the Directorate of Social Defence, whose work covers the welfare and rehabilitation of orphaned and destitute children and others in difficult circumstances. The scheme is aimed at that group and is awarded to individual students rather than to institutions or households.
The benefit is financial and tied to education, meant to help a child stay in school despite the loss or absence of a caregiver and the strain of chronic illness. The eligibility conditions and scholarship amounts are set by the Gujarat government.
